The one where hopefully we are feeling less nauseous and knackered (although we develop hippo hands and feet due to the heat!), we are entering or are in our second trimester (phew!), we continue with 12 week scans and test results (ekkk!), we have 16 week midwife appointments and hear the heartbeat (OMG - aw!), we potentially see the beginnings of bumps and feel the first flutters of movement (wow!) and the 20 week scan for some is just around the corner! Grin

Oh and we try to improve our diets after surviving on one food group during the first trimester!!! Wink

Bring it on thread 7!!!

(pod hope I did you proud)!

I've just seen this and thought how amusing it is that whilst we are here analysing every single aspect of our pgs, this girl had no idea until the baby popped out www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2378995/Doctors-said-IBS-stress--I-actually-PREGNANT-Mother-Sophiia-Marie-Faia-Southampton-didnt-realise-having-baby-arrived.html
(sorry - am such a daily mail freak!)

BuntCadger · 31/07/2013 11:50

I did look at maternity wedding dresses etc book but really seemed crazy spending £££££ on a dress. I'd be flattered if you did similar. Smile

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 31/07/2013 11:59

Ooh, am I the only winter wedded lady? We got hitched Jan 7th last year, so if bean arrives 4 days late, he will be born on our wedding anniversary!

book congrats, how lush! Have you started looking at wedding dresses?

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 31/07/2013 12:00

Meant to say, I am starting Mat Leave on 8th Dec (working the Sat 7th), so at 36 weeks ish.

Does anyone here have loads of knowledge of mat leave/annual leave arrangements? I have a couple of technical questions...

Just popping out to meet some friends for lunch, hurrah!

MrsAVB · 31/07/2013 12:07

humpty the Valuing Maternity website is quite useful for the technical stuff. With annual leave, I think aside from being entitled to exactly the same as you would if you were in work, which is statutory, soe of the other stuff (ie when you have to take it) is at employers discretion in the same way as it is for non preggos.
We had a winter wedding too!
X

MrsGSR · 31/07/2013 12:13

Waiting at the doctors to see my midwife, keeping my fx that I get to hear the heartbeat!

enormouse · 31/07/2013 12:19

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. loving the wedding talk and the mint choc chip milkshake sounds fantastic. I'm really craving McDonald's chocolate milkshakes and the deep fried Apple pies.

Could you hire a dress bunt? I'm pretty sure there are lots of maternity wedding hire companies.

Have had some great news re my car/driving woes. DPs parents have offered me the car that used to belong to their daughter. Almost FIL has done a grands worth of work to it and it's been sat in his yard for nearly 2 years. Unfortunately, the problem is DPs lovely sis, who is likely not to sell it to me, despite never using it. It's an almost 10 year old fiesta that I'd be willing to pay around £300-£400 for. (Is that about right? I'm not very clued up on car values). If not a-FIL said he'd help me find something.

Still going to put in for my driving theory test as it ran out last March. And get ready for my practical test. Non cuntpuffin instructor thinks I should be ready by September or earlier.

Have downloaded the highway code and the latest theory book to my kindle, so best get on! Smile

enormouse · 31/07/2013 12:19

Oh good luck MrsG . Hope your appointment goes well x.

BuntCadger · 31/07/2013 12:22

Mouse - not me getting married its book :) I Got married whe heavily preg with dd

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 31/07/2013 12:24

humpty - I'm an emoyment lawyer and there's an argument that you should also get contractual leave too - the law is not absolutely clear. Most large law firms accept this which is indicative of the fact that they accept that to not allow that contractual leave to accrue and be taken (irrespective of whether the policy is " use it or lose it" in the year it accrues), would be unlawful and open to challenge. Therefore, I would politely inform (not ask) your employer that you expect to be able to take all annual leave accrued pre maternity leave before you go. - If that's not possible, it shoukd be carried forward. Whilst on mat leave, you expect your contractual (not just statutory) annual leave entitlements to continue to accrue and you will take that at the end of your mat leave. If that's not possible, (for a good reason), it needs to be carried over for you. If it can't be, there are some arguments that you should receive a payment in lieu but the situation is not black and white. Therefore there is no absolute argument that your emoter should make a payment. However, if not, you need to be able to take it

If you need more info, I'm happy to discuss by
PM.

I'm off on mat leave ATM and not going back to work. My next mat leave would have started 3 weeks after going back!

My job is totally unfamily friendly so I'll take a few years off and then decide what to do. I'm lucky in that Ive got various contacts who have potentially offered me a role when I want to return so that's helpful. But not sure how things willow to out as both going back to 20 hour days even when 8months pregnant on call to clients at anytime of day or night

I loved my job before I went on mat leave but priorities have totally changed

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 31/07/2013 12:28

Apols for all the typos. Not going to change them but just wanted to clarify - when I said "large firms", I meant "large law firms" who are usually the nastiest bastards about ensuring emotes get the bare minimum such as mine and paying whacking chunks of enhanced mat pay only when you return. So if they accept it, it's tacitly acknowledged that they accept that they would not be able to successfully defend any claim lodged

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 31/07/2013 12:28

"Emotes" - employees

enormouse · 31/07/2013 12:37

Oops sorry bunt and book, I must learn to read and remember things properly! Smile. (Congrats btw book)

BookTart · 31/07/2013 13:53

Midwife has been and all is well. Got to hear the heartbeat, and the baby kept getting the hump with the doppler and hiding :) She said the pains I'm having are fine, and not to worry unless I have bleeding at the same time. So all good. I totally failed to wee on demand though, which is ridiculous as I'm spending all my time on the loo!

3-400 for a 10 year old Fiesta sounds about right to me enormouse. I worked for Ford years ago, and Fiestas were great and hardly ever went wrong. If it is 10 years old it might need a cambelt though, I can't remember the interval for those but they can be a bit of money to have done.

Mythreeknights · 31/07/2013 14:04

I'm so distracted today, must focus!

Sultanajo · 31/07/2013 14:37

Very interesting Gobbo - I think that's what our company does anyway which is something, but good to know it's actually pretty much meant to happen that way....

Yay Book really pleased all went well and you heard the heartbeat! And relax.....

Hope everything has gone OK today for you MrsGSR and anyone else with appointments today - am sure I am missing someone.

Nice to hear of others with quick weddings. Everyone thought we were weird last year for getting engaged and married within 6 months, but if you can afford to have the wedding you want I really don't see the point in hanging around. I too would have become bored of it all if I had to hang around for things - it was bad enough after the initial flurry to then not be able to do the final touches until a few weeks before! We were married in October, so we will have one anniversary before little one comes along which will be nice! I am trying to persuade DH to take me back to where we got married for a night - am hoping he will give in soon! Grin

Hi Sultana how are those pelvic floor exercises going Grin I hope work wasn't too bad / isn't too bad today.

Frizz1986 · 31/07/2013 14:51

Just come back from midwifes and got to hear hb. How awesome! Dh had a lovely smile as it was galloping away. I took a load of pee and they just dipped it. So have the tub still in my bag!

enormouse I have a ford fiesta, 52 plate (new model) and although I would say ford's are normally top notch and cheaper to fix than others, get someone to check it out. I got mine 5 years ago 2nd hand and it has been a nightmare!
Rusting roof that someone had painted over, computer monitor needed replacing as kept failing and shutting down the engine, airbag fault light is now on and no one knows why, 3 new steering racks and faulty rear door. I will be glad to get rid in Dec.

Sultanajo · 31/07/2013 14:55

Yay Frizz that's awesome! So exciting!!! I too had to take my bottle of pee home with me, so was a tad concerned it would leak in my bag! I double wrapped it in sandwich bags!

Mythree it has been another frustrating, sucky day. Just getting my lunch break, although I actually finish early today. Meant to be getting the pram when I finish but DH had to go into work last minute and still isn't back, so if he isn't back in time we won't be getting it today. However, I am knackered so could quite happily chill on the sofa instead, so it's win win! Wink

OP posts:
enormouse · 31/07/2013 15:00

Thanks frizz and book. It should be ok, it's not brand new but was only used by DPs sister (for occasional trips into town every few months) and a previous lady owner before that. And it's been lovingly repaired (Inc New cambelt) by DPs dad. I trust him as he used to be a rally driver and has spent a fair bit fixing it up. Though, I don't expect to get it unless the sis is feeling especially charitable.

Ick I will never lose the feeling of disgust when they hand the jar back to you.

What happened at work sultana?

TobyLerone · 31/07/2013 15:01

Humpty, I was married in winter too. January 12th this year. Baby is due on January 5th next year :)
If things continue as they are, though, I will be having an ELCS at 39 weeks at the latest. So not only will we likely not get a baby-free 1st wedding anniversary, we might not get a baby-free Christmas!

Sorry you're having a crappy day, Sultana.
We got married 5 months after we got engaged, too. We'd started TTC last summer, then got engaged and decided to get the wedding out of the way first. So January it was. Then TTC was back on!

Glad you had a good appointment, book :)

MrsVDB · 31/07/2013 15:11

Bali booked for when ill be 21 weeks woop!!!

TobyLerone · 31/07/2013 15:25

Ooohhhh, how lovely Envy

MrsGSR · 31/07/2013 15:54

I heard the heartbeat! It does sound very like a train! Turns out I'm not immune to rubella, dispite having the mmr, so I'll have to have it again after babys born and be careful to avoid anyone who has it until then. There were also done abnormal results with the first urine sample so they've taken another. Possibly an infection but she didn't really explain it very well.

BabyshamBambi456 · 31/07/2013 16:37

Had my midwife appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat! The wee one ways moving around loads which could be heard too so that was awesome. Smile but wanted to let those who've not been yet know, I had to ask to hear it and MW said guidelines have now changed and they don't routiniely listen for it until 36 weeks unless you ask. She also said if you ask they won't refuse, just something to bear in mind. DH and I got married April 2012, by my due dates we concieved on our first anniversary Smile
Has anyone started a birth plan yet? My DSIL and her husband saw us for the first time since we told them and it was the first thing they asked me about. As a first time mummy I'm a bit at a loss and I'm not planning to go to NCT classes (DSIL did them and loved them, but I've talked to loads of friends and looked at NCT and it's just not a good fit for me personally) so I'm not too sure how best to make the decisions. DSIL out things on hers like 'I will ask for pain relief but I don't want it' how can you even know that??
