He just slept a lot more than usual for 24 hours. I have to say that of all the reactions that must be the easiest to cope with! I guess that's why the semblance of a routine we had before has now disappeared, but I wd obv take this over him having a temperature or anything. I was a bit worried about them tbh but it was all pretty easy. Even on the day he only cried for the second jab, and that finished within ten seconds of me hugging him I did get his blood all over my white t shirt though damn it

janey1234 · 03/09/2013 05:03

Oh and good luck for weds - I think it's tougher for mum in some ways!

HazleNutt · 03/09/2013 08:38

As Victor behaved so well on the plane, we're taking him to his first beach holiday, going to Turkey in October with my parents, just before I go back to work. Not so worried about him, but there's some serious work to do before I won't scare people when wearing a bikini..

on a different topic, was reading a baby book someone gave me, an american one, those are always fascinating. They also talk briefly about bilingual children and advise to "immerse your child in the language - play games in it, read books (many popular children's books have been translated from English into other languages)".

As obviously, children's books are written exclusively in English Confused

That's hilarious hazle!
Lovely you're getting a holiday in before going back to work (eek). We're off to France on 14th for a hol and I cannot wait mainly because DP and my folks can get up at 4am to look after Miles and I can try to get some sleep!
Noticed on Sunday night that in low light Miles has one pupil larger than the other. I'm not worried about it (turns out DP has it too) but feel that a good mother would get it looked at by a doctor. But then don't want to look like a neurotic first time mum. Ah, what to do.

Purplemonster · 03/09/2013 09:35

My pupils are different sizes Janey and I have excellent eyesight so I don't think it's a problem, just a quirk. My eyes are slightly different colours as well so maybe I'm just a bit odd!

Alexandra6 · 03/09/2013 10:14

You're making me want to check my pupils out of interest! Wink People are rarely symmetrical - one eye slightly bigger, one ear, one boob etc - so it might just be that? Hasn't affected your DP after all!

Envy of all these holidays!

janey1234 · 03/09/2013 10:36

That's exactly what I thought.. But my damn GP cousin said that rarely it can be an indication of a problem so to get it checked out, some syndrome (forgotten the name) in babies. Not sure whether to ignore - might call the GP's to ask. I think it's nothing at all but feel bad ignoring the advice if a doctor?!

Cavort · 03/09/2013 10:37

Ah Purple, there you are - I thought you had ditched us and buggered off! Grin

Janey I really hope the jabs have the zzzzz effect but fear I am not that lucky and will more likely end up with 48 hours of screaming.

I don't think I am supposed to go get her weighed until next week, but I am going to go to the baby clinic after her jabs tomorrow just so I can have a whinge get some advice from the HV's as I feel things are particularly shit at the moment and I am finding conflicting advice online....

WARNING - MASSIVE MOAN ALERT!

It has got slowly worse over the last few weeks, but I now have a velcro baby who will only rarely go down on her own during the day. She wants to feed/suckle and doze on me constantly so my nipples are getting sore again and most of the time when she is on the breast she is 'fussing,' which I believe is the biggest euphemism ever because I would describe it more as violent - she thrashes around punching and kicking me, pulls away with my nipple clamped between her gums, scratches my chest, makes grunting/straining noises like she's in pain (I don't think she is) and is start/stop for the whole time she is on until she eventually passes out (too briefly and then the whole thing starts again). The only time she doesn't do this is when she is really sleepy and relaxed. Dr Google suggests it is because let down is too fast, too slow, she is over tired, she is intolerant to dairy in my diet, she has nipple confusion because she prefers the ease of the bottle - the list of possibilities goes on and it basically could be anything or that my child is just a massive PITA. But basically BFing is pretty miserable at the moment so I need to bend somebody's ear about it. My only saving grace is that she always sleeps midnight to 6am in the moses basket with only one feed or I think I would have thrown in the BFing towel by now as I am fucking knackered exhausted at the end of every day. DH tries his best to help when he's not at work but is obviously lacking in the boob department so the majority of it falls to me.
Also, she has gone from pooping 3/4 times a day to not doing one for 4 days now, which is apparently normal for babies who are EBF as the majority of breast milk is metabolised with minimal waste, but to suddenly go from 4 a day to none is a bit worrying.

Rant over - no wonder the first 12 weeks is known as the 4th trimester. Confused

Cavort · 03/09/2013 10:41

Oh, and Hazle I am very Envy of your beach holiday and the fact that you have a baby who is easy enough to take on one.

MotherOfCleo · 03/09/2013 10:58

janey I have different sized pupils which react differently to light, I never even knew until I went for an op at the London Neurology Hospital and obvious being a brain and nerves hosp they are more 'up on it', the trainee kid doing my pre op crapped himself when my pupils reacted differently and went to get his superior who smugly told him she isn't in for anything to do with her brain it just makes her eyes more unique than yours....I felt kind of bad for him. Definitely worth asking about though.

Hi purple, all good with you?

Oh cavort you poor thing, that sounds really stressful and draining! I don't blame you wanting to talk to someone I can only begin to imagine how exhausted you are. Hope the doc can help!!!

HazleNutt · 03/09/2013 11:02

cavort might just be a growth spurt? Vic has had days like that too when he is cranky, wants to be carried and fed what feels every 10 minutes. And it's also normal to poop less during growth spurts. But we all understand how frustrating it is, I'm still fighting over bottle feeding here - he now agrees to chew on it while carried around and does not immediately start screaming, just in about 5 minutes..

janey sure, give them a call. We have our PFB's, it's expected that we are over-protective and running to the doctors for every sniffle or spot. Grin

janey1234 · 03/09/2013 11:26

Oh cavort how knackering. Have you heard of wonder weeks? Elodie would be bang on for the second leap, if you're into that kind of theory? At least might give you hope that it's only temporary...?

MotherOfCleo · 03/09/2013 11:33

Ok, I'm going to have a moan now too, my boss is still giving me EVERYTHING to do, even though really it would make sense to start farming out some of my work to my colleagues so they can ask any questions now before I leave. He seems to want to get every last ounce out of me before I go on maternity.

On the plus side I only have 8 weeks left but have checked my holiday and I have 7.5 days still to take so will be finishing on the 18th instead of the 25th October and will be taking some long weekends too. That certainly puts a smile back on my face!

Cavort · 03/09/2013 11:58

Janey I have the Wonder Weeks app on my phone and she's 12 days away from the 3rd leap because their development theories go from due date rather than birth date and she was 9 days late. They have been bang on with their leaps so far and today has a picture of a sun coming from behind a cloud, so if this is a 'good' day I am dreading the day when the picture is a rain cloud! Confused

I have just tried something really simple and obvious - I have sneaked her down in her swing with my stinky top which I wore yesterday and she hasn't woken up yet. Oh please let this work!

Mother your boss sounds like an arse but don't be scared to ask for a lighter workload if things are getting too much. Just tell your boss it's better than getting signed off with stress.

janey1234 · 03/09/2013 12:29

Their sense of smell is weird. I've been up since 4am again as miles would only sleep when immediately next to my boob. Not feeding - he was full - just snuggled up next to it. So I couldn't go to sleep as I was worried about smothering him - co sleeping is one thing but not sure it's a good idea with half your baby's face covered by your bosom...

Fingers crossed it works for you

HazleNutt · 03/09/2013 16:30

had the 2-month check-up. nicely 50th percentile weight-wise, but 90th for length. Certainly didn't get it from me.

BelissimaLol · 03/09/2013 17:21

Argh why do we only lose messages when they are really long???? Just lost my whole post AngryAngry
Cav sounds like a growth spurt. How's today been? I think Lara is also going through that. I've been knackered for last couple of days with constant feeding and endless fussing. And she also seems to like sleeping with her nose up my armpit!
Question: are you having bcg jab done on your babies? I was told my HV to do it ASAP and it turns out next available app is 10oct! Not impressed.
Also had a bit of a scare today as her belly button didn't close properly so I had to take her to have it cauterised today. It turns out she didn't even bat an eyelid but I was we'll upset! Now it's black Blush and I'm told it should be fine next week!
Sorry about your boss Mother!

Cavort · 03/09/2013 17:36

Today has been a little better, although she has still fed constantly and fussed while awake and I have ordered 3 pairs of shoes and some jeans online while bored and pinned to the sofa but has napped for 1.5 hours this morning and again this afternoon in her swing so at least I have had some respite.

I don't think Elodie will be offered the TB jab at the moment as we're not in a high risk area. I will ask about it when we go tomorrow and see what they say.

Purplemonster · 03/09/2013 18:30

Nice to know you all missed me Grin I was still reading to see how you all were I just didn't post as I didn't want to put off all the new grads with talk of sleepless nights etc but I see they have defected to their own thread so I figured I could come back and moan at you lot as you're used to my whining!

Cavort · 03/09/2013 20:13

Moan away, Purple just like me.

I haven't needed the Lansinoh for weeks but it's coming back out of the drawer tonight - ouch!! Sad STILL pinned to the sofa with my good friends Galaxy, Haribo and Netflix for company.

janey1234 · 03/09/2013 20:26

Cavort - Netflix + maternity leave = best invention ever, surely?! I've never watched Dexter but am already on series four Smile

Re lanisoh, I too gave it up but briefly had to use it again recently. I'm thinking maybe you just need to always have it in stock whilst bf?

Purplemonster · 03/09/2013 21:13

Well I've never needed my lasinoh but haven't had more than about two hours sleep at a time most nights since she was born. If its not one thing it's another Grin

She's JUST starting to settle down with her sleeping and is starting to go from 12-4am so there is light at the end of the tunnel, which is good as one night last week she got me up to feed EVERY HOUR Shock not good for Purple's mental health.

MotherOfCleo · 03/09/2013 21:46

wow purple she sounds like a little minx!!! I just bought some lasinoh of ebay for £3.50 so haven't lost anything if I don't need it. Going shopping at the weekend for other bits for my hospital bag...scary stuff!

Hope bubs sleeps soon for you!!!

Alexandra6 · 03/09/2013 21:57

Every hour?!

cavort I'm Envy of your mat leave shopping, think I'm going to need to go easy to make sure I have enough to do all the stuff I want to do on mat leave! if I'm not too tired Still feeling a bit uncomfortable about DH being the only real earner for a year!

DH and I have just been shining a torch at bumpy to see if it pushes it away - not much movement though, poor thing was probably asleep!

Glad I've got my lanisoh already, at least I've got some stuff sorted!
