I've also heard the thing about the washing machine, my friend also had a mobile which had all black and white patterns on it. this one I think It used to give her 20 minutes peace and quiet.

BraveLilBear · 13/08/2013 14:22

Holy crap Hazle that's scary. Hope you're on the mend soon. And excited congrats to the new pg berries!

Now flying solo here after my mum's help last week and struggling to eat and drink and even shower- I just don't have time to do all that and stay on top of the housework (Horatio keeps weeing over all his clothes and we clearly don't have enough first size gear) and service a restless and hungry 3 week old!

Absolutely knackered. Am also now on antibiotics for an infection in my stitches.

Am also trying to figure out how on earth breastfeeding mothers ever get their hair cut... any ideas?!

HazleNutt · 13/08/2013 16:28

brave you'll just have to feed while they cut. Or express and go when DP is home.
Sod the housework though, you have a newborn.

I'm feeling fine now, a little weak and there is still a little bit of rash on my arms, was quit a severe reaction. Still, incredibly lucky that we were at home, 10 min from the hospital, there was no traffic and DH didn't go to the gym straight after dinner like he had planned to - it really went from 'feeling a little funny' to really bad in the matter of minutes. Sure, anaphylactic shock is rare, but having an Epi-pen around even if you have never had any allergies might be a good idea for everyone.

OP posts:
MotherOfCleo · 13/08/2013 17:01

hazel my friend is a doctor and only decided to tell when we were on holiday in a wasp infested resort that she was borderline needing an epi pen and that if a wasp stung her I probably only had a few minutes to find an epi pen or an absolute shed load of piriton. I spent the whole damn holiday on wasp watch, you'd think being a doctor she could get someone to prescribe her an epi pen!

As you said you are so so much he was their and you were close to the hospital. Certainly makes you think!

Brave, I think that is the reason so many mums have ponytails....

BelissimaLol · 13/08/2013 17:15

Bloody hell hazle! What a scare!!!!! Glad everything is fine now. Shame on shellfish though. I would also be gutted.
Well I've had an eventful two days. For baby weighed yesterday and she has put on 1lb since birth!!! Very happyGrin. Dh went back to work tomorrow and I don't know if she felt it but she cried for the whole day! And fed non stop from 8-midnight. When he got in we were both in tears. Then he grabbed her and she was as happy as larry!!
Had hearing test today and am pleased to confirm she passed the test!
But I've been feeling very teary today and worried about going back to work full time (which was always a given for us). Cried for the whole afternoon for no reason Confused. Do I have baby blues I wonder?

BelissimaLol · 13/08/2013 17:16

Obviously not thinking straight. Dh went back yesterday and not tomorrow.
And sorry for the me me me post Hmm

HazleNutt · 13/08/2013 17:33

reminded me - we had an American visitor the other day who, after asking about going back to work, exclaimed '14 weeks of maternity leave!! Paid!! Wow!! Amazing!!'

Considering they don't get any, I guess that sounds generous. At the same time, a friend from Estonia was telling me how hard it was for her to finish maternity leave early and go back when DD was just 2,5 years..
It's quite interesting what you consider normal.

Miles has been a nightmare on two Mondays so far, both when DP was at work. He rarely has bad days so can't help but wonder if he does realise he's bit around... Hope you're feeling ok. FWIW I have had lots of random tears (eg today in hospital thanking the intensive care staff for looking after Miles, and this afternoon singing the song to him that was playing when he was born) and think I'm just tired and emotional, so I wouldn't necessarily worry. However, if you're at all properly worried about baby blues do get some help. My cousin tried to struggle through on her own and it was shit. As soon as she got some support she was fine.x

janey1234 · 13/08/2013 17:52

He's not around, not bit around. Bloody phone!

Cavort · 13/08/2013 18:28

Hmmm, Elodie is fine when DH is not around which is all the bloody time, with his current workload I may as well be a single parent, rant, rant, rant but she always has a massive gummy smile for him when he gets in, which is a damn cheek when it's me doing all the hard work! Grin

Lol I second what Janey said, you should have a chat to someone. It doesn't have to be a HCP, just bending a friend's ear can make you feel loads better. My MW said to me that it's normal to cry for no reason in the first few weeks. I think it's hormones and does not necessarily mean you have PND.

Brave I am usually a bit OCD when it comes to cleaning and tidying, but since having a baby I have just had to suck it up and accept that for the time being my house is going to be messier and dirtier than I would like and that spending time with my daughter is much more important than housework. Except when the Health Visitor comes round and I have a mad cleaning session so she doesn't think we live in a shit hole. And infected stitches - ouch!!!

Janey I have ordered one of these and one of these which attach to bouncers/car seats/moses baskets/prams in an attempt to alleviate boredom and save my sanity. I am also considering a swing as she seems to like being in the one at my Sister's but they are quite expensive so I need to make sure she'll definitley go to sleep in it like it first. There are loads on eBay but collection only and all quite far away.

Purplemonster · 14/08/2013 09:45

For sale: baby, nearly new, vgc, excellent stamina - can scream for days on end with barely a pause, requires refuelling every two hours including through the night, possible secondary use as a chemical weapon. Will consider any offers including a bogof deal with the bloody dog.

MotherOfCleo · 14/08/2013 09:50

purple you should go into sales!

Guess you're having a tough time, if we kill the hubby and give away bubs and the pooch you might get a bit lonely.....although imagine how clean everything would stay!!! Wink

We pretty much finished the nursery last night, have uploaded a pic. Feels like a weight off my mind, even though it will be ages until he gets any use out of it. Confused

janey1234 · 14/08/2013 10:02

Oh purple! Miles is grouchy again today, it's tough isn't it. Thank god for the swinging chair so I could have a shower - stopped him moaning for five whole minutes...

MotherOfCleo · 14/08/2013 10:19

It certainly doesnt sound easy having these little bundles of joy. Confused Blush Confused

HazleNutt · 14/08/2013 10:31

oh what a lovely nursery Mother! Will do ours at some point too, DH wants a space and planets theme, I would prefer nautical, and it would really make sense to do a jungle, as the nursery already has leopard/tiger print wallpaper from the previous owners. So we'll see.

Vic seems to be fine on mixed feeding, sleeping and eating as usual. I'm starting to hate this pump with passion though and dumping what seems like gallons of milk. I really hope he does not forget how to breastfeed now Sad

I'm still not properly over the allergy, skin still feels hot. Otherwise feeling fine, but apparently exercise 72h after eating the allergy inducing substance can also cause anaphylaxis. And I was planning to work out like a madwoman this week, to lose at least a bit of weight before we go to Estonia. Guess that's not happening now..And I'm terrified whenever I eat anything, in case I get a reaction again. So even though I can't complain about the baby, I'm still not a happy bunny.

OP posts:
BelissimaLol · 14/08/2013 11:21

That must be really scary hazle. Hope the allergy tests reassure you!
Thanks for the kind words girls. I'm feeling a lot better today. Think I got pissed off with my mum yesterday as that brought it all on. She arrived on sat to stay a month and we fell out yesterday already. I guess we lasted 3 days- dh was impressed about that. I'm escaping her today to have lunch with a friend and think that will cheer me up even more. Will also pop into work for people to coo over my little angel Grin
Quick question- have any of you ever had green poo from bf baby? I had some yesterday and dr google says it could be baby has overfed (well that is possible since she had that mad rush on mon) or that she is not getting enough hind milk. Now then- how do I make sure she is getting it? Do you offer both breasts on every feed or just one? Do you always alternate even after a snack feed (say 5ish min) or go back to same one?
Getting confused now and decided your advice is better than that of any shitty health visitor Grin

Cavort · 14/08/2013 13:37

Glad you're feeling better Lol. Mothers can be enough to drive the sanest person nuts. Smile

I've had a couple of green nappies but not many. I asked my HV about it and she said not to worry if they aren't a regular occurrence. She also said as a rule of thumb the hind milk comes after about 15 minutes, so if baby has a feed of less than 15 mins you should offer the same boob again first next time.

I'm no expert but if your baby wasn't getting enough nutrients she wouldn't be putting so much weight on so personally I wouldn't worry. I try to alternate boobs between feeds but am rubbish at remembering which one was last used so if I can't feel one is fuller than the other then I just stick her on whichever. And I don't time length or frequency of feeds as they're totally erratic and unpredictable. She's putting on weight well so I figure I am doing something right.

Purple I feel your pain! One day mine is an angel baby and the next she is so grumpy that I consider putting her up for adoption. Grin And it's totally unpredictable what mood she'll be in and when she'll feed so making plans is difficult. She's currently very tired but resisting sleep and is on my chest grumpily headbutting me as I type. I just keep thinking it can't last forever.

MotherOfCleo · 15/08/2013 11:19

Hope you're feeling better hazel!

I agree re the mother issue lol, throughout my whole pregnancy so far the person to piss me off most is my mother, she just seems to know how and when to say exactly the wrong thing! When I've dared to say anything in response she just calls me hormonal...to my face....brave/stupid!

Tallyra · 15/08/2013 11:34

Hi everyone. Just plucked up the courage to sneak a look at this thread. I'm waiting with bated breath for things to hovering though, so I may be lurking for a while, depending on how confident I feel. There's a lot to read here!

Alexandra6 · 15/08/2013 11:46

Hi tally! We'll budge over and make room for you, huge congrats. I'm 25 weeks, due 28th Nov Smile When did you get your BFP? Do you know how far along you are?

BelissimaLol · 15/08/2013 12:05

I'm a happy bunny today. Lara slept for 5 hours (albeit on my chest) which meant I got some rest. She has woken up at 5 but has fallen asleep again at 9 and is still sleeping so I got a nice lie in Grin
Mum went out for the day yest so I was relaxed for the whole day GrinGrin
I might buy a baby carrier today. Any suggestions?

Alexandra6 · 15/08/2013 12:22

Ah glad you had a good night lol (although I am a bit worried that just 5 hours is a good run! Grin ) Must be so good when they sleep well for a night.

A friend recommended the ergo baby carrier and said it's amazing and funnily enough janey recommended it to me yesterday too! Am buying one on Sunday plus I think we're going for a Bugaboo Bee so pram decision made!

Sorry about the mother dramas. Have to say my mum never annoys me. MIL on the other hand...Wink

Alexandra6 · 15/08/2013 12:24

Oh and you need to buy an insert for the ergo baby carrier for younger babies, but I think you can then use if for a good while without the insert too.

janey1234 · 15/08/2013 12:51

You can indeed - my DSIL was using the ergo with my niece at two and a half years old! She was apparently thinking of asking for it back to take on hol with her - two weeks before my niece turns three! So whilst it costs a lot you can use it for a long time as the weight is on your hips, not your shoulders....

Tally - welcome and massive massive congrats. We're a funny old mix of new mums and preggers ladies, but all graduated berries delighted to have others joining us Smile

janey1234 · 15/08/2013 12:52

Oh and Alex 5 hours is def def a bloody good run of sleep!Confused
