Hi tally welcome! Lurk away, we are all very friendly over here and are all at different stages so fret not about being new. Trust me time flys by and before you know it you are having your 20 week scan. Grin

How far along do you think you are? I was 28 weeks yesterday, seems like only yesterday I found out.

lol I have no idea sorry, I'd be interested to know what you go for though as I think a carrier may make things hugely easier, when juggling everything.

Tallyra · 15/08/2013 12:54

Ha ha, I meant go wrong, not hovering.

I'm 5 weeks today going by my FF dates. I've been through this part 3 times before already, and only managed to get to 9 weeks each time, so there's no room to celebrate just yet. Also I had Hyperemesis each time as well, which involved hospital re-hydration visits, so I'm waiting for that to kick in - that'll probably be in about a week that I stop being able to eat or drink anything. So all in all, it's just the first step along a very bumpy road at the moment.

Blimey MotherofCleo, I can't believe you're over halfway already!!!!!

MotherOfCleo · 15/08/2013 13:06

I know tally crazy huh! I shall keep everything crossed for you that this is THE time. Hope you stay well too.

Alexandra6 · 15/08/2013 13:27

tally I hope this is THE time too, it's so nerve wracking at the early stages at the best of times but especially if you've been trying a long while or it hasn't worked out before. I'll keep everything crossed for you and hope time goes as quickly as it can until you're 12 weeks! Are you going to have an early private scan?

Tallyra · 15/08/2013 13:34

By the way, we got 2 more bfps today - barkingtreefrog and haycorn Grin

And as I've been in such a bad way previously, I'm actually being given a scan next week by a lovely epu nurse that I met at my last fc gynae appt, which will be 2 days before we go away on holiday to France for a week. I'm not worried about having a scan before we go, but it's the 8/9 week one that I'll be desperate to have.

janey1234 · 15/08/2013 13:47

How funny, berries always seem to graduate at once! We had a flurry in the very first thread - and we all have babies about 6 weeks old now Smile Big big congrats to the others.

Must be nerve wracking for you. I had one mmc at 12 weeks before this one, so can't imagine how tough if just be to have had three. Everything crossed for you that this is your time....

HazleNutt · 15/08/2013 14:24

Welcome new graduates!

Had a bit of drama here yesterday, Vic was grumpy and crying in the evening, probably stomach issues due to formula, then i was crying as it's my fault I've messed up his little stomach (can't BF for 3 days due to the allergy medication). Poor DH didn't know what to do with us as I'm the least emotional person ever and never cry..and of course I am afraid to eat anything. Oh the fun.

But after a bath Victor calmed down and slept from 11 to 5 and again til 8, so seems better now. And I only have to take the pills today and can breastfeed again tomorrow! Just hoping he's happy with boobs again.

As for baby carriers, I'll probably get the ergo at some point too. At the moment, Moby wrap works really well, the only downside is that I haven't figured out how to wrap it if you're outdoors without having all the fabric down on the ground, like when you go for a drive, so baby is in the car seat. So whenever possible, just wrap at home and insert baby later.

Hola, welcome and congrats to the latest grads! Everything crossed for you tally that this is the one for you.

Finally realised that Horatio's uber demanding few daysis pprobably down to the 3 week growth spurt.

My babasling arrived the other day and I haven't quite used it yet but will report back on usefulness asap. Thing I've been pondering- if you go out with a sling or carrier how do you carry purse and phone etc #firstworldproblem

BelissimaLol · 15/08/2013 16:07

Wow it looks like another November grad rush!!!! That's excellent news. Hopefully everyone will be brave to join us soon.
Tally it must be extra hard for you. I had one mc only and the first 12 weeks of this pregnancy were an absolute nightmare!!!! Take it one day at a time. I really hope this one is a good strong lone
As for carrier I went for a bjorn (?) active carrier. It's meant to retail for 100 quid but it was down to 63 at mother care. It's very comfy and Lara already slept in it (and she slept kissing my chest which is what probably made me buy it Grin)
On hazle I think we are all hormonal messes to be honest and will get upset over small things. Hope your dh is being understanding.

Cavort · 15/08/2013 16:07

Welcome and congratulations to the millions of newly upduffed Berries! Grin

Brave when I'm out with the sling I have a little backpack for my stuff and baby essentials.

And I'm with with you Hazle on the dirty ground problem when putting the sling on outdoors. It is in the wash as often as the muslins. Confused Good news you can get the BF going again, the last few days must have been very frustrating.

Alex the only time I get more than 4 hours usually much less uninterrupted sleep is when DH helps me out on weekends... but then my rock hard painful boobs wake me up. Sad But their little smiling face makes it worth it and it's true when you hear people saying it's amazing how little sleep it is possible to get by on.

MotherOfCleo · 15/08/2013 16:32

Question mummy's, how far gone were you when you all gave birth? My RL friend is a week ahead of me dates wise but her edd is 3 weeks ahead of mine, I worked out she is using 38 weeks not 40 weeks as her due date, this may be because she was given her edd when she was in south Africa for 3 weeks? Perhaps they do it differently. Is that not really unrealistic though? I though in the UK they use 40 weeks to estimate your due date and that most people went over especially with their first?

I'm just a little confused as I'm planning on working to 38 weeks (pos 37 if I need to) and she is planning on working till what works out as 35 weeks.

Cavort · 15/08/2013 17:14

Mother I remember reading somewhere that the average gestation of a first time mother is 41+3.

I gave birth at 41+2 but waters were artificially broken so no idea when it would of happened naturally. My latent phase had started naturally at 40+4.

I finished work at 36+2 which I thought was about right for me. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy but my job involves loads of driving and I was knackered. Smile

HazleNutt · 15/08/2013 17:23

I gave birth at 41+1, but was induced. Last day at work was my due date (and then worked from home and was still bored to death, so early finish would not have been for me, but everybody is different).

Quodlibet · 15/08/2013 18:29

Congratulations Tally and fantastic news on another Berry rush. I am another one in the MMC club so do appreciate how scary the inital weeks can be.

If I go to the average of 41+3, then it's an Xmas day baby for me. Nooooooo!

Alexandra6 · 15/08/2013 18:35

Random question but purple and janey did you ever worry about the tiny dust particles from the building work getting into your blood stream and harming baby or is this just my usual pregnancy paranoia? The loft started today and DH and I are both a bit coughy!

It's interesting that so many people go over first time, mine might be a December baby! It's hard to know when to take mat leave from, I've gone for two and a half weeks before due date (which includes a weeks paid leave) so that could end up being a month of enjoying lazing around watching tv waiting.

BelissimaLol · 15/08/2013 19:36

Well I gave birth at 39+4 which I know is unusual. Had a sweep 2 days before and worked till the Friday (she was born on sat)!!
I was fully expecting her to be late and the mw told me the sweep would not work first timeGrin

Purplemonster · 15/08/2013 20:27

Alex, it never occurred to me, she's breathing it in all on her own now though, good job I'm not prone to worrying or I'd be going out of my mind living in a building site with a baby. I'm sure it will all be fine, try not to worry, it's only dust!

Congratulations to all the new grads, it's very exciting to have some new recruits.

I was 39+5, was induced but waters had broken the day before so if they would have left me the hell alone I think she still would have arrived early, just in her own sweet time which clearly wasn't fast enough for the interfering bloody doctors so not all first timers go over due.

janey1234 · 15/08/2013 20:31

I had an elcs at 38+3 so can't be of much use. I finished two days before 36 weeks and that was the perfect amount of time for me.

Alex, ha, no - I never worried about that. I think only gasses can pass into your blood stream from your lungs so am sure it's biologically impossible. And if it isn't, there is dust bloody everywhere so it would be happening anyway. So in short - don't worry and relax! Smile

janey1234 · 15/08/2013 20:36

Oh and in other news DP was home today and miles has slept for literally the whole day. Only woken to feed, happily slept alone in his moses basket for long long stretches at a time. This is annoying as a) I have the fear for tonight and b) he must now think I sit around all day twiddling my thumbs. Angry

Purplemonster · 15/08/2013 20:51

They do it on purpose Janey, it's a conspiracy, Lucy will whine and cry all day so I can't put her down without screaming, he comes in from work at something crazy like 9pm and I'm wild eyed and the house is a tip. He holds her while I make dinner and she promptly falls asleep, probably because she has completely worn herself out being a little
sod for me all day. Grrr I'm sure he thinks I do nothing.

I'm also very envious impressed by all these four and five hours if sleep you all seem to be getting, She still seems to be waking every two hours and feeding for at least half an hour so I'm not getting mug sleep at all. Do you think I could part exchange her and upgrade to one that sleeps properly?

HazleNutt · 15/08/2013 20:59

Victor has times as well when he just wants to be carried and amused and while it's not difficult, it's not like you could do much else. But whenever I go out so DH would have the lovely opportunity to do it all, he just happily sleeps the whole time. Babies..

Naughty Miles pretending it's all a walk in the park! Grin

Thanks for the dust advice, I might take my gas mask off in a minute To be fair, the work is contained in the loft for now and they've taped around the loft flap so it's not like I'm sitting amongst rubble!

Alexandra6 · 15/08/2013 21:18

Oh and janey our friend who's a little bit psychic Wink thinks I'm having a girl, she said she thought it from the minute she found out. Did she have a guess on yours? I know it's 50/50 but love guessing, it's just because I'm getting excited about finding out! Another friend is adamant I'm having a blond boy.

Cavort · 15/08/2013 21:29

Ladies RE baby sleeping read this and weep.

Admittedly she is a bit young for any kind of sleep training, but having read that I now feel like a complete soft touch that she rarely falls asleep on her own without being fed/cuddled/rocked/pushed in the pram and she does regularly show the signs of over tiredness. I also mostly pick her straight up when she cries as I hate to see her upset. A lot of it makes sense so it looks like I am going to have to toughen up in the coming months if I want to get decent sleep. Hmm

janey1234 · 15/08/2013 22:07

Aha! It does say no to sleep training until a minimum of 2 months - we're not all failures after all!!
