Welcome stom and kchapper!

Don't forget to add yourselves to our stats thread here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1803742-December-2013-Stats

And kchapper, if it makes you feel any less scared I'm due on 30th December with my first child too Smile Do you know whether you're having a boy or girl?

Alyssa1978 · 21/08/2013 21:42

storm water birth definately not for me, water doesn't relax me at all, I get stressed sitting in a bath lol I love my showers. Grin

Gosh seems like everyone's buying tons of baby stuff, I only have 2 outfits, 2 bibs and 5 body suits, I think I'm waiting until my growth scan at 28 weeks to make sure he's definately a boy, even though I know he is lol

PistachioTruffle · 21/08/2013 21:43

Thankyou all for the advice on the heartburn! I think I'll get myself to boots tomorrow and get a small bottle of the gaviscon advance, and if it works ill ring the GP and see if they'll prescribe it.

I really like the Idea of a pool birth, I believe there is only one pool room at my hospital though Confused I did briefly consider switching to the nearest midwifery led centre which has a few, but it's much further away and seems a lot of hassle. So if its available when I turn up in labour I'd definitely give it a try! The worst that can happen is you don't like it and ask to get out.

Gannet, that's a great deal! I'm very jealous of your nursing chair, I've been scouring eBay for one locally but nothing has come up yet. I'm hoping to get to a couple of nct sales as well, I've heard they are really good for clothes and stuff.

I can't advise on the sleeping I'm afraid, I try sleeping on the left but 9 times out of ten wake up on my back. Maybe a pregnancy pillow is the way forward, I don't know.

kchapper5 · 21/08/2013 21:56

:) itsliz yey nice to meet someone due the same time, and no we opted not to find out, so will be a big surprise, OH wants a boy(shocK) but i don't mind at all.
I like this idea of a pool birth too, and don't worry ive literally only bought my nappy bag. i think its because it still doesnt feel real yet. and im so pessimistic i darent buy stuff just in case.

CryingGivesMeAHeadache · 22/08/2013 07:46

morning guys. can I get some positive vibes sent my way? got another scan to check little ones spine and I'm terrified as my sister has spina bifida. also it would be great if it flashed its bits so we know if we're team pink or blue Grin

mumoftwoboysS · 22/08/2013 08:14

I wouldn't worry too much about the sleeping positions. I seem to wake up on my back most mornings! I also sleep on my left and right. I remember trying to stay on my left for my first pregnancy but t have me such a sore achy hip. Some pregnant women even sleep on their tummies! I'm n

mumoftwoboysS · 22/08/2013 08:17

Oops bloody iPhone. I think the research says left side is best but I'm not sure if it says that other positions are bad does it? I think as long as it works for you do it! It's hard enough to get a good nights sleep anyway at times!

froubylou · 22/08/2013 09:22

Morning all

Best of luck Crying, sure things will be absolutly fine and it will be nice to see your LO again. Are you going because your bubba was norty at the first scan? Think you are arent you lol. I wouldn't worry at all. It's just you have had such a long time to think about it that now you are imagining the worst. If it helps my uncle was born (many, many years ago) with Spina Biffida and my nan had 5 healthy children, about 30 grandchildren and probably about 50 ggchildren now and no one has had any issues like what Uncle had. xx

I wanted a water birth but consultant didn't seem keen sigh. Because DD was an ECS (breech) they will want to monitor me quite closely when I get to active labour. I might be allowed in for the early stages, but only if they have the right monitor's to go in the water by then. And I can have a partially active labour according to the consultant. But they will want me in a more 'traditional' position (ie on the bed) to deliver to enable the M/W and consultant can keep monitoring.

Am not happy with all that TBH. I want me and baby to be safe but I'm not being strapped to a bed to make their jobs easier. If I am on all 4's and panting like a dog on the floor, they can bend their bloody backs if they want to examine me. And they aren't sticking their hands up my fanjo every 2 bloody minutes either. The additional risk of a VBAC is pretty small really.

DP worrying already pmsl. He's said I'm not to be too forceful and they are dr's and nurses and know what they are doing so I should go with the flow and do what they want. Said its my birth, my labour, my body. And if they don't want to help me have the birth I want they can all fook off and I'll have a home birth instead so he best get me some plastic sheeting for the carpets from work pmsl.

Shut him right up!

The only thing I have actually bought so far is a breastpump cos it was cheap! Do have lost of stuff we've been given but held off buying anything yet. Got DD's uniform to get next week, then might start getting the odd thing.

Weljel of all of you with a nursery to decorate though. We're in a 2 bed at min so have just made space in our furniture for baby stuff. Really would love a little room for him to do up!

Never mind, hopefully be moving soon and will be sick of decorating then!

Stom91 · 22/08/2013 09:27

Hey yeah I kinda sleep half on my side half on my tummy... I try and sleep on my left buy my hips hurts. And it's the only position I'm comfy in.... I'm really worry though cos she has been moving quite alot but this last week she's not moved much I'm not sure if it's cos ice been abit down in the dumps. Or if im worrying over nothing. Should I ring mw I don't want to sound stupid xx

LadyMedea · 22/08/2013 09:55

I've been doing a lot of reading about fetal movement. The RCOG patient leaflet is really good. It gives really good guidance on what to do if you think you've got reduced movement at different stages of pregnancy.

Basically 24-28 weeks is see your midwife that day/next day and 28+ weeks is call the maternity assessment unit immediately.

Before you call do a self check by lying on your left side for two hours and see if you can feel 10 distinct movements. If you can't you need to call.

I wish they'd give you a pack with all the RCOG patient leaflets.... seems all a bit hit and miss really.

Oh and sleeping positions - left side is best as apparently keeps your liver out of the way..... but either side is fine and you naturally stop sleeping on your back as you get bigger because its not comfortable as it squishes important bits.

Stom91 · 22/08/2013 10:01

Thank ladymedea.. I'm only 22 weeks so should I be worried?

Dasie · 22/08/2013 10:01

crying good luck with your scan!!!

stom if you're feeling some movement thats good! From my experience wriggler has some active days and some quieter days depending on how busy I am. I know they do say if you are worried about not feeling movement to eat/drink something ice cold like an ice lolly or such to stimulate the baby? If you are worried though give MW a call, that's what they are there for, to offer support.

I get the keys to our new house today, tres excited!!!!!!!!!!!

Grin
Stom91 · 22/08/2013 10:11

Thanks dasie just been lying here and put myhand on my bbelly and she's moving around. :) think i was just one er thinking about it & worrying xx

kchapper5 · 22/08/2013 11:24

glad you can feel her Stom, im only just starting to feel movements, apparently i have an anterior placenta, so it makes it harder to feel?? Anyone else have this?

And loads of positive thoughts crying. My granddad had Spina Bifida and hes one of 7, hes the only one to have it and non of us since have.

Dasie Yey on the new house :)
x

Stom91 · 22/08/2013 11:31

also need abit of advise. My mum has said they she wants to be there... Well actually she's just assumed that she will be at the birth... But if im honest as much as I love her I'm not sure I want her there.. In a nice way.. Lol.. I kinda want it to be intermate between me and DP. .. I just haven't got the heart to tell her. Kinda hoping I go into labour on a weekend when dp is about so I don't need to call her lol... I just feel so guilty for saying I don't want to u there obviously I'll say it micebut tthat's how it'll feel x

CryingGivesMeAHeadache · 22/08/2013 12:23

scan went well and baby is happy and healthy thankfully. still refused to move to check its spine at first so had to go for a walk and eat some chocolate (such a hardship) it finally moved but still wasn't gonna show us which team we're on so the great pink/blue mystery of.2013 continues...ah well we will find out in December I guess!

TakingTheStairs · 22/08/2013 12:44

Stom91 maybe you could tell her a little white lie and say that the midwife has said only to have one person at the birth and obviously your DP has to be there :)

On the day, the midwives will absolutely back you up if you let them in on the secret.

MrsShrubs · 22/08/2013 12:50

congrats crying and glad all went well! And congrats dasie on the new house!

Welcome stom and kchapper Smile

stom I've already told my OH that we can tell our parents when I'm in labour etc but I don't want any of them there until at least an hour after little boy arrives (if he arrives at a convinient time and not 2am in the morning) so we have time on our with him and I can pull myself together after the birth and also so he doesn't get whipped out of our hands right away and passed to everyone else. I think if you let people know now your thoughts they will respect them.

Sleeping wise some nights it's too uncomfortable to sleep on my side so I go on my back and others I manage to sleep the whole way through on my side, all a bit hit and miss. I think as the baby gets big lying on your back might cause you to have low blood pressure or something so you might not feel too great when you wake up.

Stom91 · 22/08/2013 13:13

Hi all thanks... Yeah I'd like it to me juat me and DP.. And like you I'd like some time on our own with our Lil one... Its the first grandchild /niece etc so everyone is going to be aww-ing over her!.. I like the idea of us being in our own Lil bubble for a few hours before it goes manic with visitors lol.

Roselau · 22/08/2013 13:41

hiya chapper!
i have an anterior placenta, so I feel her less. but I've started feeling her down low once in a while. Not super regularly (i'm 22w 5d). Since my placenta is anterior but high, I'm assuming that I'm only really feeling her when she's kicking down or to the sides, but not when she's kicking directly at the placenta. so i try not to worry. I do feel her once in a while so that reassures me.

stom I've had quite a few parental heated conversation. I've been really chill with this whole pregnancy with the exception of dealing with my parents. they stress me out, and i would not want them anywhere close to me at that time. I think as the pregnant one, you can get away with your demands and your mom will understand how important it is for you to share this moment with your DP. You're not having this child with her, you're having this child with your DP. but then again, I am not super close to my parents, so I can understand how opinions would differ.

CryingGivesMeAHeadache · 22/08/2013 13:42

storm I was a tummy sleeper before I was pregnant and even though I have quite a sizeable bump and try to sleep on my side I usually wake up on my tummy. I also sometimes sleep on my back now too. My reasoning is my body would tell me if it was wrong by hurting or being uncomfortable so as long as you listen to your body it's easiest to just go with the flo.

hetsto · 22/08/2013 13:52

Hello all!

Welcome kchapper5 and Stom91!

Congratulations on the house DASIE, that?s so exciting! Have you got to do much to it or is it ready to live in straight away?

ccsays, those little clothes made me squeal, they?re so cute! Really pretty designs too.

Roselau, I know what you mean about feeling like the time is flying ? I don?t think we?ve touched the ground since we found out we?ve got twins and all of a sudden the third trimester will be upon us.

I?m slowly readjusting my thoughts in terms of delivery date and the birth as well, as it?s likely we won?t make it much beyond 37 weeks according to all the doctors. We had ANOTHER scan this morning (which went so well Smile that we?re going down to fortnightly scanning now! Yay!), where the consultant reiterated the more limited options for birth given that they?ll need to monitor the babies throughout and that I may well be induced. I had been thinking about a water birth too Stom91 but I think that?s probably going to be unrealistic for us so I?m wondering whether it?s worth pushing for a more active labour with shorter stints of monitoring, or just going with the constant monitoring they prefer. Lots to think about!

Congratulations on the scan CryingGivesMeAHeadache, hope you?re feeling reassured and I think it will be lovely to have a surprise!
