Hello shiny new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SundaySunshine · 21/07/2013 05:27

Persuasion I give L infacol before his night time feeds, seems to do the trick, he generally goes back to sleep in his cot after feeds. Not sure about the poos but might that she's just more comfortable for having done them and so settles easier.

dinkystinky · 21/07/2013 06:08

Persuasion, in no particular order this was what helped with ds2

  • warm tummy tub bath early evening (warm waster helps settle them)
  • gentle tummy massage ( 2 fingers gently in clockwise direction around belly button)
  • cranial osteopath
  • raising head of cot or his head in the bed so not lying flat
  • popping him in a bouncer/keeping upright for a while after feeds

I agree with Sunday, she's probably more comfortable after her poos so can sleep better.

MightBeMad · 21/07/2013 08:16

Morning all!

Slouching hope you had a better night, or managed to get some pain relief. Fx things are progressing well for you.

Hope those with littlies managed to get some sleep overnight. The cooler temps were bliss for us innies so hopefully they were good for the outies too!

39+2

twirliedobbit · 21/07/2013 09:29

Morning all.
Still here and fed up. Feeling sooooo sick and keep being sick in my mouth you know those little unexpected ones that creep up, anyone know why??

Hope everything is going well for you slouching...hoping to hear your good news very soon!

41+2 :-(

Persuasion · 21/07/2013 09:59

Thank you dinky and sunday. That's kind of what I thought aabout the pooing. I'm wondering if there is any way to encourage poo earlier in the evening and if that would help. Were already keeping her upright, and end up with hersleeping on is to keep a slight upwards tilt. It's world so far but isn't sustainable! I'll try lifting the end of the bed and a bath tonight and see how that goes. If not then I think infacol is going to have to be tried. It does help just to know others have the same problems!

mightbe I imagine the cooler temp is a massive relief. I certainly find things easier when is not quite so hot.

twirlie I got quite bad reflux again in the last few weeks of pregnancy. I don't know why. I still had to be induced so I think it's just another joy of the end stages. Sorry!

Nothing from slouching overnight, I have my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully you're having newborn snuggles by now...

The song 'I knew I loved you' by Savage garden came on the radio a few nights ago. I was having a hormonal weepy moment anyway but it made me wail. Anyone (particularly new outies/first timers I suspect) wants a good (happy) cry should have a listen, or alternately avoid if you're feeling sensitive!

princessllama · 21/07/2013 10:06

Persuasion we have the same poo thing here. He has been grunting since 2am and will probably only poo about 10 tonight. I am going to try a bath this afternoon as that used to help dd. i have been advised by a wise old friend who was a maternity nurse to try 10 ml warm water and if that doesnt work then add 5 grains of brown sugar to the water. Not sure how keen i am on that. Someone said that at this age they havent got the hang of pooing and the muscles dont work together so they can have firmly closef bottom but be pushing like mad. Humphrey goes mad if i try and massage his tummy or bicycle his legs!
Fx for slouching ( and jo root)big cricket fan here.

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 21/07/2013 10:06

twirlie could it be reflux? I had this a few times towards the end. Have you a date for induction? Sympathies ++ at being so overdue (esp with no4!)

dinky I must have missed you weren't feeling well somewhere upthread, hope you are a bit better today

Evelyn hope you have a better day today, overnight was really bad for is overnight with constant feeding and it does sometimes feel like one step forward two steps back

slouching I'm hoping you are by now progressing into active labour and that you have managed to get some rest overnight

Meanwhile my challenge for today is to get Morven to poo! She didn't poo yesterday and I suspect that is why she was so unsettled last night. Might try a bath to see if that does the trick. Her cord came off last night too, thank goodness, I always find them a bit gross Grin

Lets have some more babies today ladies!
(fx poco might have some news today, plus slouching and any others who are ready to pop)

IcingTheCake · 21/07/2013 10:13

twirlie sounds like reflux, try to make sure you don't drink or eat too much at night, ice cubes work better than water for some reason, and when you do go to bed make sure you're well propped up, i have four pillows minimum ATM and normally put my pg/bf pillow on top too! Its horrible and my sympathies go out to you Sad Thanks Its my absolute least favourite thing in this pregnancy!

thinking ooh im glad im not the only one i imagine ill find it really gross with the stump! Haha what do you do when it comes off newbie question just chuck it in the bin??

I see they've bought the day of the storm forward they reckon Tuesday now Grin im so hoping the drop in pressure really does work! I'd love that so much haha!

40+1

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 21/07/2013 10:34

icing straight in bin here though some people do keep clip and or cord- each to their own I suppose!
Interesting theory re storm!! Fx could get all you overdue innies to get going Grin

Forgot to add earlier it's my birthday today, so I've achieved my aim of finishing my family before I got a 35 - made it by 6 days!!!

VinegarDrinker · 21/07/2013 10:46

Happy Birthday Thinking! -anything nice planned?

IcingTheCake · 21/07/2013 10:49

thinking happy birthday!! Im glad you got to complete your little family before hand Smile

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 21/07/2013 10:54

got to 35

Thanks guys!
I think we'll go out for a short walk, our first proper trip as a family of 6. Nothing too adventurous but lovely all the same Smile

Abzs · 21/07/2013 10:59

slouching good luck, hope things are progressing better now and you get pain relief as/if you need it. J was back to back, but I've nothing to compare it to.

Abzs · 21/07/2013 11:00

Happy Birthday thinking!

PhieEl06 · 21/07/2013 11:20

Morning ladies, I've read to catch up but I'm having a lazy morning in bed & have a needy DP that wants to give me a cuddle so keeping this post short & sweet.

Congratulations to new arrivals, I think for lancslass since my last post.
I hope something has happened for slouching now, if not a massive good luck.
Happy birthday thinking & congrats on reaching your aim hehe, just in time.

I hope everyone is well & we have more arrivals soon! Going for a long walk round my local shopping centre today as need to get my dad a birthday present for tomorrow, officially overdue now. Sad 40+1 booooooo!

cheekbyjowl · 21/07/2013 11:22

happy birthday thinking.

also not a fan of the cord. has anyone seen the diary of a whimpy kid when he's worried his little bros cord has fallen into his dinner.

as I was under ga when I gave birth my husband was offerd a picture of my placenta. poor chap is scared at the thought. they are incredible things but I don't need to see them..but I appreciate others do.

dinky I'm impressed at how much you are doing but don't tire yourself too much. hope you get a better night tonight xx

TotallyEggFlipped · 21/07/2013 12:50

Happy Birthday, Thinking! Enjoy your walk.

cheek - what did they think your DH would want to do with a picture of the placenta? Frame it & put it on the mantelpiece? Make it into a Christmas card? DH needed to be persuaded to cut the cord. There's no way he'd want to look at the placenta, let alone get a photo.

Abzs · 21/07/2013 13:28

I have vague memories of dh being offered a look at various points. He did, but I haven't asked whether he wanted to or felt obliged. Quite what he saw, I dread to think...

dinkystinky · 21/07/2013 15:52

Happy birthday Thinking - hope you have a lovely day and M does a poo in your honour :-) My goal was to get pregnant by 36 or give up on no 3 - found out I was pregnant with j on my birthday!

We have some delightful post birth photos of me and j with the placenta centre stage courtesy of our doula.- not sure why.

Took boys strawberry and raspberry picking this morning (j kindly snoozed through it all) and had french toast for brunch today with our pickings when we got back. Am going to make up some jam with some of the strawbs tomorrow. Dh is about to take ds1 out on his new bike - without stabilisers. I foresee more tears!

VinegarDrinker · 21/07/2013 20:35

Hope you've all had a good day, especially Thinkibg - and looking out for any news from slouching poco and anyone else waiting for babies...

Oh and reminding everyone about PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES Grin

Lovely simple, content family day here. Still can't believe how easily B has slotted in to our lives. Wish they'd both sleep past 6am though

TomDaleysTrunks · 21/07/2013 20:48

That's lovely vinegar. Glad all settling in well together.

Thinking of you slouching.

What a nice birthday surprise dinky.

Hope everyone's had a good weekend. No baby here yet, still lots of twinges etc but no real movement. Not sleeping well at all, going to start in bed but will probably end up on the sofa again.

39+1

PhieEl06 · 21/07/2013 23:59

Cheek weirdly I'm the person who'd want a placenta pic... but then again I'd love to look at it just because I'm intrigued by it, also totally DP hasn't yet made his mind up on whether he wants to cut the cord, he says he's too weirded out by the thought but I'm worried he'd regret it if not, hmm more convincing is probably needed.

Thanks for the pelvic floor reminder Vinegar, my face is a picture trying to do them in bed!

Hope you have a better nights sleep Tom, bit cooler tonight so hopefully that will help!

Whilst out shopping today I brought DP a parenting book, I've got to admit its fantastic, he'll be a first time dad at 22 & is very dyslexic but he is loving this book at the moment, hasn't put it down since we've got into bed, hence me scrolling aimlessly through MN. It's called Commando Dad Basic Training by Neil Sinclair, I've had a flick through & it covers basics for first 3 years it's like a daddy manual! Would recommend for all first time dads!
As I see you ladies as the fountains of all knowledge what recommendations for first year baby books do you have? I'm looking for something that isn't really biased in methods & routines but gives a general overview of the first year, that's also not too boring, this is something I'm going to be reading when sleep deprived not needing to be put to sleep!

Hope tonight is baby filled & everyone manages a decent/restful night!

evelynj · 22/07/2013 01:06

Haha, love the placenta photo story-I'd also quite like to see the placenta but I forgot about it in all the fun. There's somewhere that have a tradition of burying the placenta in the garden as they see it as a guardian spirit for the child or some such which I like the idea of, if nothing else, it's bound to make amazing compost eh?!

I'm in much nipple pain today & Florence seems to have opposite troubles to the other babes in pooing at least 10 times a day so red bum today. Up early for lots of bum air time tomorrow, fx for a few hours sleep now.

Re books, what to expect in the first year is the only one I've used for milestone checking but it is pretty dull so will wait to see others recs. Just heard more poo so off for another change before back to bed :(

G'night all

SundaySunshine · 22/07/2013 04:07

What, no 4am club?!! Hopefully that means you're getting lots of sleep!
Hope you had a great birthday thinking Smile

Silver15 · 22/07/2013 04:26

Sunday on in the club listening to the birds sing.

Thinking hope you had a good birthday.

There is no progress this end re: baby. I'm getting resigned to the fact that baby will make an appearance when ready. All the RLT and EPO have not yielded any results yet. Think it will work in labour. I felt I'll and in pain yesterday. All overbody pain and had to stop my self crying. Took some paracetamol and woke up feeling better.

Plan for the week is to try and relax and rest as much as possible cause been so active over the last week including having a barbecue on Saturday as I has family around.
