Man alive it is hot. I hate being this hot, baby seems to move less. Sorry so many of you are feeling rubbish today. Hope all is ok falcon.

On the plus side, I have just ordered a Tommee Tippee microwave steriliser with 50% from Amazon - £13.49. In case any one else is interested, here is a link.

falcon hope things turn out ok today.
roxvox baby seems to move more in this heat, I think it's cause am downing everything very cold, iced drinks, ice lollies etc. I feel sorry for him though and sometimes feel like am giving him a chilled bath which he obviously doesnt like!
Feel rubbish, 30 weeks yesterday, nesting instinct fully in now but we are in the middle of a mortgage process and should move next month, so can't do up baby's room or anything, just keep staring at all the unopened boxes and wish Halifax would hurry up with survey...

claphammama · 18/07/2013 10:28

morning everyone.

falcon hope you will write soon with good news x

pinkb hope you feel better. Just think that you are about to have a baby so it really doesn't matter if your graduation is pushed to December x

warlin it's the opposite for me! No meat cravings at all in my first pregnancy and this time I really fancy it now and then and even had a couple of burgers... to DP's delight!

hotsoup bear in mind that not all nurseries are part of this government scheme. Mine didn't offer any free hours. As bridget says, nurseries attached to schools are a good option as the same kids end up going to reception together so your DC would already know a lot of other children when the proper school starts. Plus, you would have a chance to meet other mums. This is definitely what I will try to do with DS2.

tarlia I can tell you used to live in Clapham :-) It's getting worse every year here... too many babies!! Someone told me that the catchment area for DS's school shrunk from 340 meters in 2012 to 240 meters in 2013... isn't it crazy?? We wouldn't get in this year.

Back in the nice and cool office today... Much better than being at home once the horrible tube journey is over. I had an excruciating pain in my right loin last night, practically couldn't move for 20min because of the pain. I can only assume it must be growing / ligament pains but wasn't pleasant at all. Anyway, seems I managed to sleep it off!

roofio87 · 18/07/2013 10:39

Eek a friend of mine woke up at 1 am with contractions and her waters gone (she was 38 weeks) got up to wait it out for a bit and with the next contraction felt an overwhelming need to push. her little girl was born at 1 20am!!! fastest labour ever!! fortunately her mum was there to help and paramedics arrived soon after!! I know not very likely, but terrifying Haha!!

roxvox · 18/07/2013 11:06

That happened to a friend of mine too Roofio! She was watching TV with her MIL, stood up to put the kettle on and her waters broke. She had her baby boy in her arms within 30 minutes... Was it your friends first?

OP posts:
Natalieand · 18/07/2013 11:10

We can all dream eh roofio only 20 mins of contractions lol. Mind u I say we can dream might have been quite scary it all happening that quick at 38 weeks especially if it was her first cos I guess u just expect it to last for hours.

Just back from the dreaded food shop and enjoying an ice cold drink before I tackle putting it away hanging the washing out then collecting dd from playschool and billing with friends in the garden this afternoon

Also with preschool/playschool some areas are running pilot schemes with a look of introducing it to all children that they can receive the 15 hours from the term after they turn 2 fortunately I am lucky enough (or unlucky if u look at it like that as u have to have low income to be on the pilot scheme) that dd is on the scheme so she has been having her 15 hours since jan this year at 2 years 2 months and the difference in her development is amazing it would be worth every penny to send them for a few sessions from age 2 if u are in a position to fund it or be accepted onto the pilot scheme x

roxvox · 18/07/2013 11:29

I desperately don't want a 20 minute labour. I will be in Cornwall, and DH might well be in Norfolk (with work) and neither of us want him to miss the birth. Once he is with me then I am fine with the rest of the birth being just 20 seconds minutes Grin

empress, sorry I missed your last post yesterday. I am not sure what drugs they offer at Treliske. I am hoping to get through the whole birth with just gas and air (may feel differently on the day).

I am interested as well in that hypnobirthing. I might buy the CD and the book and try to engross myself in that. Mum says that the thing that really helped her back when she was giving birth was breathing exercises that she learnt at antenatal classes, and I read that hypnobirthing is a lot about breathing etc so I think I will give that a try.

I find the whole pre-school/ reception thing very confusing. Our nursery is also a pre-school so kids can stay there until they are due to start P1...obviously at a price. You can apply to local primary schools too which are hard to get into but free. Is reception year not the same thing as pre-school...ie Ds is young for his year so I imagined he would go to pre-school at 3 and then start P1 at 4? Very confusing. We put ds's name down for a private school at birth but now with 2 so close together it will depend on funds!!

Can I ask a personal question....?! How often is everyone DTD? We are lucky to get once a week these days and to be honest I have little interest. Last night I was a hormonal wreck though as I now feel like DH doesn't really want it either...he is normally always up for it but now I'm convincing myself that he doesn't find me attractive and that's why he's not that interested. I don't want it at the moment but don't want him not to want it IYSWIM....AIBU (I know I am but can't help it!) Does anyone else feel the same?

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 18/07/2013 11:51

My neighbour had a super quick birth with her first and delivered before the ambulance arrived.

The paramedics told her husband to get something warm to wrap her and the baby in and the poor bloke, in his panic, grabbed the nearest thing to hand. Which, unfortunately, was their cat's blanket!

She has still not forgiven him for coming to her senses to find she and her precious newborn had been covered in a stinky, cat-hair covered, fleece.

PseudoBadger · 18/07/2013 12:01

For people having to commute or work in the heat, the Level 3 Heat Wave issued by Public Health England in the SE yesterday contains this that you might wish to draw your employers' attention to:

"During very hot weather pregnant women...may experience discomfort if indoor temperatures are particularly hot and in using public transport. Employers should ensure indoor areas are kept cool and consider allowing these individuals to travel to or from their place of work during cooler, or less busy, times of the day"

I have only been to work on Tuesday morning this week, I got the tube before rush hour, then got the tube home at lunchtime and have been working at home ever since as my offices are not air conditioned. I am very lucky that I work in a subject area where my bosses are clued up about such matters. If yours aren't they need to get to know!

MotherOfNations · 18/07/2013 12:04

We are managing most days Warlin according to Do pregnancy has turned me into a nymphomaniac.
I think once a week might be considered a lot for some people on here as among my friends several barely had sex at all once pregnant and one friend thinks its disgusting that we're still "doing it".
Maybe your DH senses that you're not really in the mood now and is worried incase you think he's pressuring you.

Natalieand · 18/07/2013 12:08

warlin I'd day dh and I are doing it once maybe twice if I'm lucky a month lol I would like to have it more but he dsnt really seem up for it either tbh which like your self makes me feel a bit unwanted although I will say if he had tried it on since the heat wave started it would have been a swift NO! Lol

roofio87 · 18/07/2013 12:14

same here, once or twice a month if dp's lucky!! I hate it, I miss being close to him and I know he wants it more I'm just feel big and uncomfortable and hot and baby wriggling away like mad puts me right off!!

yeah was my friends first. I'd be ok with a super quick one as long as dp was there and didn't.miss it!!

snowgal · 18/07/2013 12:46

Falcon I'm definitely more of a lurker on this thread than a participant. I had suspected PE in my first preganacy after coughing blood whilst swimming. Lots of xrays/VQ etc, eventually they decided it was just one of those unexplained things. I was in hospital for 2-3 days. Make sure they keep talking to you and push for the tests, and get as much information as you can from your consultant. I was admitted to the maternity ward, which really weird and felt like the midwives didn't really know what to do with me.

Relax and don't panic about it, take the opportunity to get some rest x

Flyer747 · 18/07/2013 12:49

Warlin we are about once a week too, we actually did it twice on holiday and I was Shock DP doesn't have a huge sex drive normally, we have always been about twice a week at normal times. In the first 12 weeks I totally went off it so just gave him bj's ( sorry to lower the tone)

This weather is hotter than Greece, my poor dog is so miserable with her thick wooly coat, I'm tempted to cut her myself but I'm sure I'd hash it up and she end up looking scalped (can't get a grooming appointment for her for 2 more weeks)

Shootingstarsandcomets · 18/07/2013 12:51

Once or twice a month max here warlin! I am definitely not in the mood and feel so unattractive. I'm much happier just snuggling until after this ones born.

Flyer747 · 18/07/2013 12:52

Also can I ask you ladies who've been on maternity leave previously, when your were on smp did you get a tax rebate? And if so when did you get it?

pinkbuttons · 18/07/2013 12:53

Thankyou for all the well wishes, today much less stressful and have managed to phone uni and appeal as it was there mistake leading to me now graduating in September Grin main issue was finances but all sorted.
warlin were probably dtd twice a week max and only because we feel we should... which is silly. Im definitely not as into it my hip hurts so can only do certain positions and it sets off my braxton hicks which panics DH. He constantly asks if Im ok because hes worrying and its definitely a passion killer. Am sure its not that hes not finding you attractive but more that maybe hes worried? but definitely dont think your being unreasonable!
If I could request it I would like a quicker labour than DS (24 hrs) but time enough to get childcare sorted and for DH to be home, worth wishing for I guess Grin

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 18/07/2013 12:57

Warlin - DP and I have only had intercourse a couple of times since our BFP for a number of reasons....his long work hours, bad first trimester sickness, unexplained bleeding etc, etc...

...and finally, although DP would never dream of saying so, I know he really doesn't find pregnancy at all attractive and finds the presence of the baby off-putting. He was exactly the same 7 years ago and it wasn't until DD was about 18 months that we really got back into the swing of things.

I remember being quite gutted by his lack of interest first-time around but now I'm resigned to the fact that desire is a funny old thing and a bit of a dry spell doesn't mean our sex life is over.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 18/07/2013 13:09

That's great news Pink - glad you managed to get it sorted out with Uni.

Flyer I think dog groomers are doing an absolute roaring trade at the moment. Was talking to a lady this morning who's finally got an appointment for her dog after weeks of waiting and ringing loads of different places.

It's funny the different businesses that benefit from the good weather. I'm certainly boosting the fortunes of the ice-lolly industry.

Warlin · 18/07/2013 13:22

Thanks all glad I'm not the only one and maybe he isn't that fussed anyway. I just feel like a sack of potatoes so it isn't that exciting anyway!! After ds I was really worried about doing it again in case it hurt so we booked a night away when he was 8 weeks, had a few drinks, relaxed and it was all fine. I hate a lack of intimacy as I always feel closer to him when we are more active

flyer I really can't remember re the tzx rebate, sorry.

pink glad you are feeling better and got sorted out with uni

BowlFullofJelly · 18/07/2013 13:23

Once or twice a week for us - fine once I get going but I do need to really gear myself up for it if that makes sense. Only once since this heat kicked in though - can't face it!

Flyer yes I got a tax rebate - you will have to wait until the end of the tax year, so after 1st April 2014. Was about £600 which was nice!

Tarlia · 18/07/2013 14:17

Not DTD for a while here but the SPD makes me feel like my lady bits are falling apart, too painful. Sometimes the mood comes, then I remember.

Clapham that's a crazy change in catchment! Has the school on the other side done the same? I think I guessed which school from a past comment about uniforms.. Will you try and get DS2 into the preschool? I've always heard good things.

legallyblond · 18/07/2013 14:58

Argh! 450 messages and I'm only just checking in now!

Falcon - any news?

I can't catch up with everyone.... But thinking of you all in the heat. With the twins, I now have more than a full termer in there... So I am hot! It's ok on the office though as its all air con.

I don't have three months left - I have 7 weeks, or 8 at most!!! I'm 30 weeks on Sat and I'll have an ELCS at 37-8 weeks.... Feeling v unprepared! I have nothing!! Because at 23/24 weeks I wasn't sure they'd make it, I think I've been subconsciously superstitious, but now need to shop!

I'm a bit worried about the c section recovery with a 2.11 y/o actually... V grateful for tips from those whose had one! I was induced with DD but, apart from an episiotomy which was achy for a few weeks, had a shortish (8hours) labour and was physically fine after.....

DD is being quite difficult at the mo.. Again, advice appreciated! She has been 100% potty trained for about 5 months now, with no accidents. But she has taken to just weeing on the floor, not even asking. Is a regression normal (she's 2.9 now)? Is it psychological re the new arrivals... ? I'm a bit stuck!

What else...? Sorry some of you are stressing re nursery places. When we still lived in L

legallyblond · 18/07/2013 15:00

Sorry... London, I put DD down before she was born. We didn't use the place as decided that DH would stay at home.ight be worth putting names down just so that you don't have to worry about it later? It's usually only £50 or do to reserve a place....
