joskar maybe you should try a chiropractor? My chiro is still manipulating me back into alignment...altho he has started to lay off the acupuncture recently-maybe a slight fear factor of bringing on early labour?!

andadietcoke · 24/07/2013 22:11

On god fl0 I remember that story from the TTC thread. What a horrible thing to say. I'm also suffering with my hands. They go numb and/or claw like. Consultant last week diagnosed carpal tunnel and said it wasn't worth a physio referral but it bloody hurts - feel like a pensioner some days!

LCR my mc was November too - also due at the beginning of July. I'm weirdly jealous of Kate and that she has her baby safe and sound, even though I'm pregnant again. All her HG stuff was in the news the week I mc'ed - really feel for anyone suffering a mc this week or should have been due around now.

You don't need to have sex for oxytocin, a great big snog and some body snuggling will do that! Sorry to bang on about Ina May but she writes about couples having a big deep kiss with tongues during contractions and it really helps things.

The sex would be for if you want the prostaglandins in the semen to kick start labour, especially if you were overdue. but it does need to be good horny sex with lots of loving, otherwise it's potentially no better than having a pessary off the gynaecologist (not that I mean to cast aspersions on anyone's DH/DPs' jiggly skills!)

RunningBear78 · 25/07/2013 01:53

ready I also seem to have had a libido kick again, although dh seems a bit nervous, i shall keep trying to pursuade him!

rake glad yr enjoying ina may, I found it totally fascinating ... Wait till you get to the bit about nipple stimulation! Also seems to work a treat, apparently, although not quite sure how the mw's at the birth centre would feel about that :D

quite annoyed to have woken up so early for no reason, can't decide if im hungry or just feel sick [hmmm] on the plus side, I managed to hip out into the garden and rescue a few things on the line from the rain ...

jennimoo · 25/07/2013 04:52

Joskar - nope, got nothing but photocopied bits of paper with pictures of exercises and some of them I know I can't do pre pregnancy (due to dodgy hips) and was supposed to remember everything she said to do pre and post natally... I teach adults and wouldn't send them away like that; would write it as a brief action plan or something...

Anyway, private physio Friday, it'll be interesting to see if she does anything different. When I asked they said yes she is willing to manipulate in pg women...

Just been woken by a downpour now uncomfortable and hungry / sicky / indigestiony. Fed up being pg now, although still terrified of having a newborn again!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 25/07/2013 09:05

Hugs and calm thoughts to the two ladies on our fb group who are looking at possible early labour (on phone so can't work out names from spreadsheet). Stay safe, hope the babies are just eager for cuddles. xx

badguider · 25/07/2013 09:14

Had a TERRIBLE night's sleep last night - heartburny for hours :(

Also I'd been at a conference all day and hips/lower back were giving me hassle in bed, and it was sooo muggy.

DH was at a dads-to-be course which he came home raving about, it was taught by a midwifery lecturer (ex-midwife) and gave him tons of info about being my advocate in labour and he knows more than me now about some things (did you know there are two different drugs available for a medically managed third stage? one is syncotin and quite gentle, the other works faster but has terrible side effects - dizziness, nausea, shaking... Want to avoid that one at all costs).

The bad news though is she reckons our hospital will be super-busy in August and may turn us away to go to the other one 16miles in the opposite direction, also chances of a room in the MLU are less... I'm hoping that although due on 5 Sept we won't actually go in till later in Sept and miss this big busy period.

He's really looking forward to the second part of the course on Saturday which is about looking after the baby so hopefully he'll be expert after this weekend Grin

I guess him going through all that at about half nine last night also didn't help me get to sleep right after...

Should have been at the conference again by now as was planning to do the full day then skip the dinner but I had a bit of a long lie instead as knackered so skipped the first sessions Blush and will get the trian in a few minutes then stay for the dinner tonight.. it's the coffee breaks that are the killer - all that standing around chitchatting... there are never any chairs at conferences for 'break out' sessions Angry.

Oh, and another thing DH was told, apparently there's a natural slowing of dilation around 7cm... this midwifery lecturer believes strongly that this is natural but apparently it can cause the mws to panic and want to 'hurry things along'... DH has been told to say things like 'mum and baby are fine, we'll just wait and see if things progress naturally, unless you there's anything wrong? - IS there anything wrong Hmm??'

He was also warned strongly that with the business we might be 'hurried' and to be really strong in insisting that they just let things progress naturally to my own (and the baby's) timetable unless there are any indications of distress.

badguider - interesting what you say about being busy in August at our hospital. I met with my consultant on Tuesday (total waste of time) and he spent most of the time trying to persuade me to go to the other hospital, despite the fact that the previous consultant had said it was best for me to go to ERI as two previous sections have left me with quite a lot of adhesions.
Because of where we live, the other hospital would be a hour's round trip for DH and the boys, while ERI is just 15 minutes. I understand my section might be delayed because of emergencies but I'm prepared to take the risk!

fl0b0t · 25/07/2013 10:19

Hi all! interesting stuff about carpal tunnel in hands, what does that feel like? mine have pins and needles in the morning and then during the day feel really tired and achey like I've been doing lots of hard manual work!

Today I had my second wasted trip to the Dr's in two days! Need my repeat prescription for anti sickness drugs which I submitted last week. Yesterday they randomly closes the surgery for training (not mentioned on the website! ) and today when I turned up they somehow hadn't processed it. I have one anti sickness tablet left now. .. and surgery is closed this afternoon. Neither the husband or I can 'pop back at midday'before they close aas we have jobs to go to. It's just lucky that I've got the kind of week where three days running I've been able to walk or cycle over to the Dr's as usually I have one day a week where I'm available during opening hours! grrrr

Anyone else currently struggling to get up? I am. Really am. On the days that my husband gets up first, I don't even hear his alarm go off. Also started to get forgetful :-s forgot my work mobile today and have loads of appointments!

JammyTummy · 25/07/2013 10:22

weebarra is it Livingston they want you to go to? What is their reasoning behind going there (and not going there, too)?

weebarra · 25/07/2013 10:37

Yes, it's Livingston. I think the reasoning is that all the high risk births go to ERI so are more likely to end in emergency sections so my elective could end up being delayed for ages.
I'm sure St Johns is fine but we are so close to the ERI it seems silly to go elsewhere. I was in for 4 days with DS2 which is a long time for DH to be shuttling back and forth.
There's also a part of me which wants to be close to neonatal in case they've missed something on the cardiac scans.

badguider · 25/07/2013 10:48

Yes ERI diverts to Livingston and has even been known to divert to Kirkcaldy!!!
A girl in my yoga class had to wait 3 days for an elcs for breech at ERI. It is busy. But it does have all the best specialists if you are high risk.
I'm low risk so far and wish there was a mlu somewhere else but ERI is 5miles from us but Livingston 16miles.

Jennimoo - I hope they do give you massage/manipulation. No one will do it for me (private or NHS). Sometimes I get so mad I just want to scream! Anyway share any tips you get because I'll try anything.

You can get splints for your hands if you have carpal tunnel. I feel a bit like a gladiator when I put them on. The only thing is that I mostly get the numbness at night so when I get up for a pee (a million times a night!) I have to take them off and put them on while I'm still asleep.

Dorita75 · 25/07/2013 11:42

This book sound interesting jake I might check it out.

Food poisoning situation much better today, just eaten toast, hurrah! Thanks for Thanks etc. Now I'm on the mend I can enjoy watching Latitude festival coverage on tv and going over my lists, might even pack my bag today.

Got scan tomorrow to check on low lying placenta, glad we can also check baby's okay after this sickness & diarrhea.

All getting closer now ladies!! Can you believe it?

Dorita75 · 25/07/2013 11:42

jake? What's wrong with me, that's 2 wrong names in last 2 posts, rake!!

juniper9 · 25/07/2013 11:55

Found out yesterday I have a strep b infection, which means both baby and I will need an IV of antibiotics at birth and baby will be kept in for monitoring.

Then a few hours later I tripped at work and badly damaged my ankle. Sigh. The ambulance crew thought it was broken but thankfully it's just a sprain. Can't walk and have to be bed bound for at least 3 days. Night time toilet trips are not fun. Also can't drive for 4 weeks... So much for driving the hire van on Saturday! Moving house is going to be incredibly tricky when I can't leave the bed...

Sorry for the moan- I was tempted to call in sick to work yesterday. Now really wish I had! Was the last day of term at least, so now I'm just crippled in my own time. Wait, that's not better is it?!

CheeseStrawCraving · 25/07/2013 12:17

Oh juniper that's rubbish Sad , at least they have found strep b now rather then later. Thinking of you Flowers

jennimoo · 25/07/2013 13:02

Juniper, sounds like a rubbish day :( How do they know about the Strep B, from your bloods?

kipsonline · 25/07/2013 13:21

Oh no juniper that does sound like a run of bad luck, hope the house move still goes ok regardless xx
Glad you are on the mend dorita and hope you get some spd relief joskar and jenni xx

kipsonline · 25/07/2013 13:28

I had strep b detected in pg 2 so had antibiotics in that labour and will again in this...
I would say do be pushy to get the IV in quickly. Our midwife was v busy when we went in and it took an hour+ for me to be hooked up. Unfortunately the labour progressed v quickly so I only had it in for

kipsonline · 25/07/2013 13:31

I would add the late onset form is v rare. Normally the newborn would present with symptoms immediately. We will have to stay in for monitoring this time regardless as they won't take that risk again.... And I shall be in hospital as soon as I feel the first twinge to get the max antibiotics even if labour is fast again!!

JammyTummy · 25/07/2013 14:19

Oh my god, that sounds terrifying! I have literally just been reading about meningitis. Kips that is a lucky escape!
Juniper how did they find you had strep b? It's annoying but again, so lucky to be found now so that treatment is planned ahead.
Also, what's the story with the 'rejected' meningitis vaccine? Is it something that is available privately? When can little ones get it done?

jennimoo · 25/07/2013 14:32

Kips that sounds so scary! I'd never heard of that before.

I'm fuming as I think DH broke our new (2nd hand...) buggy while folding it at the weekend: he forced it and now I can't seem to get it to work properly! I'm tempted to make him buy a brand new one as punishment, perhaps a bugaboo or something!

juniper9 · 25/07/2013 15:08

Thanks for the kind words (and flowers!). Kips that sounds incredibly scary- did they not monitor you more closely post birth?

I had a trace of protein in my last few urine samples, so they sent off a sample to the lab. The woman who rang me from the lab lacked people skills, which is not fantastic when you're talking to pregnant women.

I'm glad they've caught it early enough that they will be prepared, but annoyed that it can't be treated pre labour!
