Another grumpy day here! No reason, just grumpy! I'm wondering if all the birth news is just drumming it home that we're not there yet, but we all feel like we're nearly there? Or maybe it's just been too hot for too long?

In my case, the royal pregnancy news broke the day in november that I found out I'd had a missed miscarriage, so I spend my week miscarrying whilst avoiding all news, the Internet, everything. Seeing the birth has made me excited and I'm totally pleased about the excitement but it's also drummed home that I should already have a baby and I've basically been pregnant since last September with a short break in november & december!

So rather than grumpy, I think I'm wallowing in self pity when I really shouldn't be!

jennimoo · 23/07/2013 20:45

Thanks joskar. I have a long sleep pillow I've been using since quite early on, and sleep on 2 folded over double duvets (like the princess and the pea!) but like you say keep waking in pain to turn over. On another thread someone suggested satin pjs / nightie which does help with the turning over.
Do you have to have legs down to be comfortable? I also get hip pain (normally, not just when pg) and for that the best position is sofa with footstool and cushions under knees, which seems to be causing pain for the SPD...

Oh well, it's almost cold here now which is ace so just the uncomfortableness to upset sleep tonight!

Babycino81 · 23/07/2013 21:40

Thanks for the welcome!!! Ill be at home with my mum if husband is still away working so I'm going to visit the hospitals and see how I feel!!! Hopefully everyone else organisation will spur me on a bit!

Readytosettle · 23/07/2013 22:10

I had my 31 week mw today & stupidly forgot to pee in the pot until about 5 mins before...having consumed an ice lolly, macaroon & pint of bottle green cordial in the 45 mins prior to said pee you can guess what happened...big glucose flag for my sweet pee.

Got home & started to explain to DH why I now have a gp appt next week & all I had to do was mention my last min pee & he came out with 'you've got ice lollyitus haven't u?!'. LOL...was impressed he even knew what they test ur pee for tbh!

Readytosettle · 23/07/2013 22:11

PS. Really hoping that it's just a red herring & they don't haul me in for another GTT....don't think I could survive without my ice lollies in this weather!

Manoodledo · 23/07/2013 23:26

Twin I totally sympathise. I'm about to move into a house where nearly every room is in a state of half done DIY. Got the keys a few weeks ago. DH thought it would be a good idea to take a week to get a bit of DIY done just so it was a bit more 'us', knowing there wouldn't be much time for this sort of thing once the baby arrives. Got the floors stripped in the bedrooms so we could paint the boards only to discover horrendous woodworm so DH and his dad have completely replaced the floors. Also removed the walls from the dinig room as home report suggested damp, only to find no sign whatsoever of damp... I have been staying with my parents with DS1 and DS2 for 5 weeks now and we've postponed the move twice. Definitely moving on Thursday. Luckily I have low standards and have only requested that all rooms have floors and skirting. Don't know when all the painting is finally going to get done. Poor DH has been working non-stop though, he's been sleeping on some old underlay in the new house and we've hardly seen him for weeks!

CheeseStrawCraving · 23/07/2013 23:45

Hehe ready, that made me chuckle! Thwarted by an ice lolly! I forgot to take sample at 32 week appt and mw just said, 'oh well you haven't had any problems so far so I'm sure you'll be fine this time too'!!

One thing I have noticed is the different levels of care we have all experienced, slightly worrying tbh, and makes me so glad I have you lt to chat to!

Re nursing bras.... What size should I be buying, and when should I get them? I guess boobs will swell closer to due date ready for birth? I haven't changed loads so far, cup size the same but gone up 2 back sizes since beginning...

jennimoo · 24/07/2013 05:52

I think you'd expect to go down a back size after birth or possibly if baby drops right down in your pelvis beforehand and then increase a cup size at least when milk arrives a few days in. Therefore when buying you go down the numbers but up 2 in the letters!
I was advised (by bravissimo) to measure / be measured no more than 3 or 4 weeks before due date.
And on a thread on here the stretchy bras were recommended eg Royce Blossom until your boobs settle on a size!

Kittenkatzen · 24/07/2013 07:21

Morning! Hope everyone's having a less grumpy day today :) off to catch up with yesterday's news....

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 24/07/2013 07:26

Morning all! Managed a 3 hour train journey with two kids in tow alone yesterday, and am wondering where my medal is. Now in London alone for three days with said kids. Could NOT get to sleep last night. Wish me luck!

Kittenkatzen · 24/07/2013 07:41

On the hospital bag chat - I'm halfway through packing mine (ie lobbing stuff in as it occurs to me)...am I the only one that has 3 separate bags?! I have one for me, one for baby and one for snacks/drinks. Was thinking last night that DH will prob need a separate overnight bag too as the birthing centre is so far from home he'll likely stay in a hotel Confused

frog definitely not being mean - people poking and prodding the baby like some kind of curiosity would drive me scatty!

SGJ that's awful about them losing all those bloods - 4 samples Shock doesn't exactly fill you with confidence does it. Hope you got your chocolate and some proper sleep last night

badguider/joskar I'm thinking of hiring a TENS too, haven't researched it yet though so will let you know when I have!

jammy I have Camembert envy!! Stinky cheese is definitely top of my list of things I'm missing whilst pregnant! Along with front sleeping, sushi and dtd! Weird that alcohol doesn't even feature....

weebarra · 24/07/2013 08:00

I used a tens with DS1. I found it very useful in the initial stages but it was such a long labour (53 hours) that it became less effective. I hired one from NCT.

flipflump · 24/07/2013 08:04

After numerous appointments with the midwife saying I'm measuring big, I was sent for a scan. Baby is indeed big, but not as big as they'd suggested. It's 90th centile. They've now decided I should have GTT at 34 weeks. Is this a little late?? I've had a high BMI since booking in app, although I've tried really hard not to gain much since. And baby has been measuring big since 27 weeks. Feel like if it comes back positive I could have received weeks of treatment by now.

jennimoo · 24/07/2013 08:10

I've got labour bag, baby bag, extra stuff to leave in the car bag, DDs bag in case she comes along for a bit and a plastic crate to put it all in. I haven't finished putting stuff in the bags though...

And I found Camembert on pizza is rather good, and surely safe as blasted in a hot oven?

Kittenkatzen · 24/07/2013 08:18

Oh yes definitely safe on pizza...I've had a couple of yummy baked camemberts too and scoffed practically the whole thing myself each time Grin

Readytosettle · 24/07/2013 08:26

I've got a normal tens & the hospital physio said it's fine for labour (just slightly more fiddly) so it may be worth checking out cost of buying a normal one (check it has 4 pads) vs hiring.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 24/07/2013 08:52

Mmm sushi... I really want a sashimi platter and a vodka martini! Although perhaps not for breakfast! Grin

Bump seems to be sitting pretty low in the mornings, which is fairly uncomfortable, and is making my tummy feel really stretched. Anyone else getting this? I think she also had hiccups yesterday evening, which was very odd.

I've not packed my hospital bag yet, but I have bought some of those go-gels that Nerual recommended on the FB page. Hoping they stay down better than lucosade sport did! I got mine from decathalon when I went to get one of the big green gym balls. DD thinks it should be a space hopper! Grin

jennimoo · 24/07/2013 09:14

My DD is loving the ball too... I took it in the garden to out my feet up on at the weekend and her and a friend were rolling it to and fro across the garden and trying to lie on top of it...

fl0b0t · 24/07/2013 10:19

Sorry to hear that purplepoppyseed. People get so overexcited about big news like that and people forget the sensitivities around pregnancy and babies. I'm still bitter from hearing the news that my MIL was telling people that DH and I would "never have children", the day that I'd started my first period after our first month of ttc. I cried for hours :-(

We wrote the hospital bag list last week, but I think I might pack it today as we've got a house guest tomorrow night and my cupboards are all full.... so I'll use it as a way to hide things. Perfect :-S

RunningBear78 · 24/07/2013 10:23

I've got three hospital bags, one for me, one for babybear, one for food, and I've made a list of things DH will probably want to take too ... so he'll have a bag of bits and pieces. We will be getting a taxi to the birth centre, so don't have the option of leaving a bag in the car which is annoying, so I'm trying to balance how much I'll need for a day or two, with a sensible sized/weighted bag.

Officially hit the 20kg of weight gained today. Feels like some sort of achievement with a heavy side portion of guilt and disgust at the same time Sad

Also, think I scared my postman by answering the door in a pair of shorts and a crop top - whoops. Kinda forgot what I looked like as I was I the middle of a yoga session in the living room! Blush (All worth while to take delivery of more Frugi vests with dinosaurs raaaahhhh Grin)

fl0b0t · 24/07/2013 10:33

Runningbear- I was painting the new kitchen standing on a chair (safe, obvs) in a bikini top and shorts at the weekend. Feel sorry for anyone who looked in my window!!

I wouldn't worry all that much about taking "too much". People make a bit of a deal about it, but we'd all rather be prepared right? :)

LCR77 · 24/07/2013 10:37

So much to catch up on...also been having very grumpy/tired/emotional week. Roll on mat leave!

purple really understand what you mean about the Royal Birth stirring up emotions. I had MC in Nov so found it difficult with all the baby fever and people saying insensitive stuff. Would have had our baby beginning of July...obviously wasn't meant to be. Figured out I will have had about 6 wks not being pg by time baby arrives!fl0b0t not surprised you're still bitter about MIL comments that's an horrific thing to say.

ready also measured mahoosive for dates and got sent for GTT at 32 wks so it's a possibility they may send you. Baby measuring average at growth scan but GTT came up as GD diagnosis. Got consultant this afternoon and really hoping it's good news. All my sugar monitoring has been within good levels apart from 2 readings. Pretty sure my grumpiness us due to sugar withdrawal! Wink

ION I think I need to call Norris McWhirter as my trips to the toilet are reaching world record proportions. I've calculated I'm going for a wee approx 20 times a day which is insane. Please tell me I'm not the only one!

badguider · 24/07/2013 10:50

Googled TENS and you can rent them online from Boots.com for about thirty pounds for up to six weeks so for me that's a no-brainer. It's got to be worth having as an option for at home and also if the pool is no-go for any reason.

badguider · 24/07/2013 10:53

runningbear i wouldn't worry about the weight as you were obviously a very healthy weight to start with.
I've put on about 10kg but I was about 7kg overweight to start with so am about the same amount over where I'd like to be post-pregnancy as you are and i'm willing to bet that you'll find it FAR easier than me to shift it after as all yours is pregnancy weight.

JammyTummy · 24/07/2013 11:07

Oh god I totally feel the loo trip pain! Both our bathrooms are upstairs, so a combination of needing to pee and a funny tummy this morning had me up and down those stairs 4 times in a space of about 10 minutes! The final time I thought I might just stay there and read a book for a little while...

My ribs have got so sore now I've got to the point that even just the sight of my bra puts me in a bad mood. I've been living in a black stretchy top with an inbuilt bra the last few days, that's about all I can handle right now!

flo what a shitty thing of her to say. I would've definitely pulled her up on it!
