I agree with jelly sounds the perfect age, I was very lucky with dd and tried at 21 months and she picked it up instantly although tbh I was shocked as I was half expecting it not to work and be trying again a few months later. Tbh it's not particularly easy as such regardless of what age you do it and once its done that's it its done and one less little bottom to buy nappies for plus perfect weather for it ATM :-)

Natalieand · 07/07/2013 22:42

Haha clapham I love that 'they are little men after all'

PseudoBadger · 07/07/2013 22:50

DS is nearly 2 and a half and isn't ready IMO. He tells me when he's done a poo which is good, but never before. He likes his nappies and isn't keen on potty or toilet. I'm waiting!

claphammama · 07/07/2013 22:51

by the way, DP fell asleep in his armchair half an hour ago and is now snoring loudly. Would it be cruel to wake him up and ask for a foot rub...? I really want one but afraid that, if I do, this could be my last birthday ever...

GTbaby · 07/07/2013 23:30

Clapham my DH is being shit at giving me a foot/calf massage. So half arsed. Wana kick him. Hope you have better luck

claphammama · 07/07/2013 23:38

no luck here gt baby... snoring soundly and generally non responsive...

LostMySocks · 07/07/2013 23:55

You're brave....if I wake DH after he's gone to sleep he's like a bear with a sore head. Just like a small child. Gets all grumpy and huffy and confused. Not sure how he'll cope when the baby comes

34PinkLadyApple · 08/07/2013 07:52

Morning all. Didnt get a chance to update yesterday. More blood tests, all fine, more wee, no protein, more baby monitoring, steady 138 heart rate so told to pop vack tuesday for same just to check still fine. Then during the afternoon got another flashing lights episode :(

Rang DAU and they said if no headache and lights gone see you tuesday. Should have consultant appointment this week to to discuss future care (stay on tablets for BP? Have some scans? Etc). Was tad excited by prospect of more scans, is that bad? Blush

Anyway, back to work today in a non aircon office so am taking no crap today (boss is an arse) and making sure i put my feet up for at least my whole lunchbreak as feet are HUGE at the moment. God knows what to wear as weekend skirts and vest tops arent quite suitable for office with pervy old engineers!

Love joshua, nout wrong with it. Everyone will have an opinion like with food. Its just a matter of taste, no one is right! We have about 10 girls names and only one boys name. We only have Bradley and thats only because neither of us hate it! Poor thing better be a girl.

PseudoBadger · 08/07/2013 07:59

PinkLady - please request a review of your pregnancy risk assessment given events this weekend. It would not be unreasonable to ask to either work at home (if possible) or different hours in this heat with BP issues.
Is it Labetelol that you're on?

roofio87 · 08/07/2013 08:07

hi ladies. been away all weekend so only just had chance to read through!!
sorry you've been so worried pinklady but sounds like ur being well monitored!!
ana my d nephew is Joshua and I love the name, especially since my sis had him, I much prefer to Joseph (but then my abusive ex had that name so probably why I'm not keen!!) like everyone else says don't worry about what other people think, I know not everyone will like Hunter, but me and dp love it so that's all that matters really!! I could tell me mum wasn't bowled over by it when I told her yesterday, but she'll get used to it like everyone else!!

hope everyone is keeping well. I've been gettin some very big painful kicks and movements in my poor stretched belly button the last few days but at least he's squirming away nicely in there!!Grin

Shirehobbit · 08/07/2013 08:17

I'm not one for taking sick leave, pretty much ever, but I think you have cause to stay off until you've seen the consultant, pinklady?

It's the first day of the summer holidays here Grin and I have the dentist and a mw appointment to look forward to Hmm
I just hope I get a nicer mw today...

ananikifo · 08/07/2013 08:28

Thanks everyone. I call him Joshua but DH calls him Josh. I don't mind either way.

Good luck to everyone at work today. I hadn't thought about foot swelling but it's a good point! I don't know how my new work shoes will fit by 4:30.

cuillereasoupe · 08/07/2013 09:10

Had a lovely day barbecuing on the terrace yesterday, then challenging all comers to ping-pong until my back started to complain ;-) I then went to bed and dreamed that DP invited his best mate Billy Idol round to meet the baby Grin

favellio · 08/07/2013 09:35

Having GTT test today. Had first blood test and disgusting sugary drink, now got a long 2 hours to wait before the next blood test...Zzzzzzzzz thank god for mobile phones, IPads and Magazines!!!
Hope everyone is having a lovely day and enjoying the sunshine Smile

cazboldy · 08/07/2013 10:26

Im having mine on thursday favellio

My dn is Joshua too! Smile
Really stuck on boys names here. My boys are James, Harry and Charlie

then have nephews called Joshua, William x2!, Alex, Freddie, Matthew.......

Girl's names slightly better, but can't completely agree on one....... Already have Caitlin and Molly. My littlest dd has her heart set on Isabella, and Bella for short, but while I neither love/hate it, I am not sure if it would be too much as our last name also begins with a "B".

I like Ella, or Amelia, but noone else does.

I also like Daisy - but with Dad milking cows think that might be a bit funny.

My ds3 wants Poppy, but noone else does........

You kind of get the idea! Grin

TheFalconsmistress · 08/07/2013 10:32

Morning,

Josh is a lovely name. bump has been called Willow since about week eight when I was convinced I was have having a girl neither DM,DF or IL'S like it tough tits I say its her name it just is and I love it!

A note about potty training it never worked with my DS he could not understand why on earth he would do a wee on a seat, cue lots of stress but what did work is letting him go to the toilet with us and do a wee, he got that easy but poos took another 6 months so I let him stay in pull ups for that period. He did it without any training so to speak just in his own time no stress and tears just copied us when he was ready around 3 for the poos and 2 and a half for the wees in the day and 3 and a half for wee s in the night. Not sure if that will help anyone :)

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 08/07/2013 10:36

Iheartcrunchiebars - Well done on the barbecue-eating! I managed one veggieburger before the rib pain kicked in, and my treat of alcohol-free fruity Kopparberg gave me terrible heartburn. And the neighbours who came round to join in our barbecue forgot to get their washing in before we lit it!

Had the best night's sleep in weeks, despite the heat. Maybe it's because i was so tired from the heat and the long walk and bad night the previous day, or maybe it was the extra pillows under my bump and between my legs, but even though I woke up 5 times between 11 and 7, I still felt refreshed by the time I got up.

MoN, where's she got Heather from? It really doesn't fit with your other children's names! Eliana's much more "you!" I really like Heather but it doesn't work at all with our surname. Thinking of Hazel at the moment. DH was set on Mia for ages, which I was happy with, but he's gone off it now.

roxvox · 08/07/2013 11:05

Thank you for all of the advice last night ladies. Baby is feeling much more active today, which is good. When I woke up a couple of times in the night I had a few squirms and kicks too, which I normally don't get so much at night, so perhaps baby was saving them up for night time!

With regards to names; we have taken to not telling anyone what we like. We don't have a definite boy or girls name (although we do have favourites on our list) but we intend to have a couple of boys names and a couple of girls names lined up and then decide on the day what suits baby best. Then family/friends can like it or lump it; can't be dealing with everyone's opinions to be honest! We started off talking about names, but after a few snarled lips and confused expressions from people, we decided to keep them to ourselves Smile

Smitten1981 · 08/07/2013 11:11

I'm totally guilty of being a name snob, but whenever anyone screws their nose up at my suggestions I'm really offended.

We're not telling anyone our names now because everyone immediately doesn't like whichever of the 6 names that we throw out there and they're all pretty standard names.

Having said that someone I know had a baby last week and called him Abraham??!! Not sure on that one at all, it also clashes quite badly with their surname.

Having said that my name is totally unusual and I've always loved having a name that no one else does.

Natalieand · 08/07/2013 11:36

I find I go through phases of liking names ATM me and dh love theo and dexter but I remember when one of u ladies said at the beginning of the thread u likes theo I remember thinking omg-theo-really? Just shows how wrong I was to judge! Also my sisters sister in law called her son dexter four years ago and my and my sister thought it was the weirdest thing ever so I try not to judge now as it could be my favourite name next week lol, so far theo and dexter r the only two names dh and I have agreed on so more than likely will be one of those two!

caz I absolutely love the name bella it would have been on my list if I had been having a girl but then again all the other names u suggested r very pretty girlie names too.

roxvox glad baby is behaving last night/this morning :-)

pink glad all you pre-e symptoms seem to be resolving let's hope baby is bump for the long haul xx

Beautiful breeze down here on the south coast today 26 degrees according to my car, just been and brought dd a paddling pool and sand/water tray for us to enjoy in the garden after my midwife appt this afternoon :-)

26 weeks today- happy Monday everyone xx

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 08/07/2013 11:36

Morning all - just catching up after the weekend.

Belated birthday wishes to Clapham and thinking of you pinklady and those with poorly little ones.

favellio - I've just arrived home after my GTT test. Drinking all that Lucozade was a real challenge (hate the stuff) and I haven't stopped burping since!

Can't remember who mentioned it, but I'm rather jealous of all those with small bumps - mine is worringly huge already. When people ask when I'm due, I've taken to saying "at the end of September" because everyone looks so shocked when I say October. I think most people think I'm not far off full-term!

Feel rather guilty that I haven't given baby names enough thought - perhaps the thunderbolt of inspiration I've been waiting for will never happen. Better get my thinking-cap on.

Roxvox Hope I didn't inadvertently offend you on Friday Flowers - I was genuinely only commenting on how my feelings towards my DP changed.

roxvox · 08/07/2013 11:45

Thanks natalie!

Bridget no, not at all! Sorry if I gave the impression that you did offend me Smile ... I am trying to remember what the conversation was about now... I think it was about DH's becoming more annoying once there is a baby about the house? DH has already informed me (after the 12 week scan) that I am going to need to share his love from now on!

funkky · 08/07/2013 11:51

favellio and Bridget just got back home GTT as well. I was so shocked i would struggle with no food but was able to make it back home without eating anything and felt ok.

Lady next to me at hospital felt really faint though and was worried she would pass out.

Wishing everyone a great week with the lovely weather!

Natalieand · 08/07/2013 11:56

I think they do the GTT differently in different areas cos I don't have to wait around for anything. I'm not allowed to eat and drink after 9pm then 10 hours later (7am) I have to drink 410ml of lucozade then 2 hours after that (9am) midwife comes to my house and takes a blood sample that's it done?

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 08/07/2013 12:19

Phew x

On the toilet-training front, I just want to say to anyone having problems, honestly, hang-on in there, they really do all get it in the end.

We had a long, long road with DD. She was fabulous with wees and happily used the potty (and then toilets) from about 2 and a half, with only the very rarest of accidents. She was also dry through the night straight away too.

But poos were another story entirely, she became absolutely phobic about pooing anywhere but in a nappy and would refuse to go until she had one put on for the 'event'.

We tried everything you can think of - stickers, bribery, ignoring the issue, reading on the toilet, picture books about pooing...everything - we even had a GP referral and help from the health visitor.

By the time she started school at 4 and a half, she had progressed to pooing in her nappy sat on the toilet, but she still didn't dare take it off.

The breakthrough finally came in the first term when she had a dodgy tummy in school and made the choice herself to rush to the loo and 'do it' on her own. (School were fully aware and DD had access to a nappy) After that, she never looked back.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I look back now at all the worry it caused and I should have just had faith that she'd get there eventually.

The whole episode has also taught me that you never know what is going to crop up in life that your child will struggle with and to be less judgemental. On paper, there was absolutely no reason for DD to develop this 'issue' - we had waited until she showed all the signs of being ready, just quickly cleared up any accidents without any sign of disapproval or disappointment, and took a very relaxed approach to letting her see me on the toilet etc - but she still developed her phobia.

Sorry for such a long-winded post!
