Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MightBeMad · 05/07/2013 17:41

Sorry for no personals exclect congrats to the new arrivals.

Am totally shattered from toddler wrangling all day. Also have been diagnosed with a uti so am hoping the agony of the last 10 days might be due to that and the antibiotics may give soe relief!

Either way, not long to go 37 weeks today!!

dinkystinky · 05/07/2013 18:14

See Thinking and Persuasion, I think your babies are waiting till Wimbledon is over to come :-)

evelynj · 05/07/2013 18:48

Congrats tryiton! I'd feel worse if all the birth stories are happy & flowery-they don't call it labour for nothing.

Badmiss-that's really rubbish, can you pass any ad into the oh? Mine is utter poo at doing anything & I always get really annoyed & end up doing it myself.

Dinky, thanks for the cranial info-am hoping by being organised for the worst, (double breast pump & every other feeding aid etc going), I will have a dream baby who is no bother(!)

Had lovely reflexology today but the reflux/sickiness really doing my head in & now giving away dh for free as he's pottered off for dinner & a haircut so coming home 2 hours late when he knows I feel crap & supposed to be his turn to take DS to bed! Grrrrr!

Time to get ready for Emmerdale & another evening of crap tv!

Evelyn-37+5

dinkystinky · 05/07/2013 18:56

Shelley - did you wear maternity leggings with dresses while pregnant? If so, try those - they may be more gentle on your scar than your jeans. And wear long top/tunic top - or a vest top with one of DH's shirts unbuttoned on top if you wish.

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 05/07/2013 18:57

Oh Evelyn am Angry at your not so DH on your behalf - that's rubbish. Hope DS goes down to bed ok and you get to chill out soon. Glad you enjoyed your reflexology.

Thinkingof4 · 05/07/2013 19:00

dinky when I found out my due date I said that I bet andy Murray wins wimbledon and I'm in labour and miss it!! That was months ago but given I'll likely get another sweep tomorrow it's looking more likely that I could miss the final!!!

badmiss that's really crap re insurance and maybe missing out on a holiday but hopefully baby will be here very soon and you'll have that to enjoy instead
Evelyn Grin at giving away dh for free. Mine is obsessed with cutting the grass at the moment, it's pretty much the first thing he does when he gets home, 2 or 3 times a week Shock
He's signed up for a half marathon tomorrow as well, but I think he'll probably have to give it a miss especially if I'm getting a sweep as I'm no way taking 3 wee boys with me for that!!!

TotallyEggFlipped · 05/07/2013 19:58

Oh dear. DD1 has just done a huge vomit in her bed and then a load more over DH's shoulder onto the kitchen floor while he was comforting her. DD2 needed another BF, so I'm doing that whilst DH clears up. That's one of the benefits of BF that they don't tell you about Wink

dinkystinky · 05/07/2013 20:09

Poor DD1 - hope she feels better soon Totally. Love that BF is giving you a get out of vom-free card.

Thinking - you must be psychic. Lol at the very idea of taking 3 small boys to a s&s - would traumatise them for life! Far better for DH to drag them around the half marathon course with him Grin

Congratulations on your baby boytryiton Sorry you didn't have the easiest birth but agree with the others that it's better to be honest about these things.

Badmiss that is terrible and the last thing that you need at the moment. Hope it all gets sorted out sooner rather than later.

Totaly Hope your DD feels better soon. That's such a good advantage of bf, they should put that in the leaflets.

Mightbemad Hope you feel better soon

Can't remember any more name checks but it sounds like I wasn't the only one who had a rubbish night sleep. Heartburn, sickness, cramps- not pleasant but fingers crossed it means baby might be making an arrival soon. Think that might be wishful thinking though.

Come on Murray!!

MrsRoss26 · 05/07/2013 21:27

tryiton congratulations on your little boy. As a first timer I can say that I find it helpful to hear the unglossed versions. How else will I know what to expect / what can happen if it's not a dream birth? (Any such thing?) Grin I hope the next few days see your tear healing quickly and newborn cuddles keeping you relaxed.

totally fingers crossed for vom-free child here on...and more success with the bf (especially if it keeps you away from other household stuff!) Thanks

MrsRoss26 · 05/07/2013 21:29

Oops, posted too soon. badmiss sounds like you're having an awful time of it. I hope you get things as sorted as possible before baby arrives.

And being forgetful of names now, really sorry...but those of you with 'signs' - I have everything crossed for you!

elliejjtiny · 05/07/2013 21:53

Congratulations cheese wifey and tryiton. Love the non fluffy birth story, I always prefer the realistic ones, makes me feel better about my own births.

re postnatal clothes I'm currently wearing my jeans that I abandoned at 28 weeks pregnant but I seem to have changed shape and my overhang comes untucked and then they fall down, lovely image there Blush. Scar is aching a bit too so I will be back in my stretchy dress and maternity leggings tomorrow I think.

Ezekiel has been a bit unsettled this afternoon and feeding loads. He's asleep now but I'm wondering if it was because I took the blanket off him as it was hot. He likes to be tucked in I find but I was a bit worried about him getting too hot. I got him weighed today and he is 8lb 4oz, same as Tuesday but he is still following the centile line. DH is panicking a bit and telling me to feed him more.

It's my due date today Smile. Never thought I'd be cuddling a 4.5 week old today, I usually go overdue.

SlouchingPanda · 05/07/2013 22:26

Thanks for all the kind husband/partner offers. I am particularly taken with Persuasion's mustering up enthusiasm at being shown a show, and Thinking's who sounds handy in the garden. Totally's anti-histamine popping DH also made me smile (such lack of knowledge of the BNF... an orthopod, perhaps? Wink).

Mine is completely sport-obsessed, and I am under instruction not to go into labour as a weekend of with Lions rugby, Wimbledon finals, a grand prix and the Tour de France is possibly the highlight of his entire life. He did, however, redeem himself with a midday text proclaiming the awesomeness of the muffins, and went to get me fish and chips tonight, so I'm going to keep him for now.

TryItOn - congratulations and thanks for your honest birth story.

I walked 6 miles today and am utterly knackered, so off to bed for me. Wonder if there will be more babies overnight...?

esme80 · 05/07/2013 22:28

tryiton congrats on your little boy!

badmiss sorry your having to deal with all this, when you should just be allowed to rest as much as you can and prepare for your elcs.

Not sure about trading in DH, he is v good at bringing me cake and massaging my back. Although how much time is it normal for a grown man to play video games?

Have had a long walk today, done a bit of baking (you lot have made me obsessed with muffins!) been to the cinema, and even eaten a load of pineapple which I dont like! In bed with v intense BH and cervical pressure which Im sure will stop soon as usual. Is there a baby version of a rain dance? FED UP NOW!

40+2

Hope everyone else feeling miserable feels better soon..

dinkystinky · 05/07/2013 22:48

Esme - a yoga teacher friend swears that belly dancer shimmying is a good way to get a baby locked and loaded to arrive. That is if you can find the energy to do that at 40 plus weeks!

OP posts:
Cheeseandbread · 06/07/2013 01:01

Tryiton congratulations on your little boy. Sorry you had an awkward labour. I did have a year too you were right. I haven't been for a poo since birth (2days now) and am a bit worried for when I do. I don't feel constipated and have tried to go but can't- any advice on what to eat how others felt with it appreciated.

MadMiss sounds like you've had a tough time lately- sorry to hear of it. Not long until you'll have your little one though.

dinky interesting to hear about your births , thanks for sharing and for info on cranial massage- I know someone else mentioned this too Princess? So thanks.

My boobs have gone rock solid and painful today- I also have a headache and lying down is not fun- I thought lying on a bump was hard. My midwife visited today for post birth check and asked if I had implants!! Nearly laughed out loud as I'm used to being a 34A. Breast feeding lady is going to visit tomorrow so hopefully she will have advice. Not sure if its the start of an infection or normal... Trying to drink lots to keep hydrated but really wish the headache would go away.

Feeding now but it is painful. Juno seems not to settle between 10pm and 2am but settles in the day. I think I have an Australian baby too- can't remember who said that sorry.

DH swapping has made me laugh so thank you for that!

Cheeseandbread · 06/07/2013 02:36

Still awake- feeding, changing, trying to put her down... crying... feeding, changing, trying to put her down... Crying. No sleep for me Sad

TotallyEggFlipped · 06/07/2013 03:46

Cheese - my sympathies. I don't think I stopped BF for any longer than 20 minutes between 10pm and 2am either.
I think the rock solid boobs are pretty normal for when your milk comes in. They should settle down soon though. Hope you get some sleep.

CitizenOscar · 06/07/2013 04:02

Cheese - I remember my boobs were huge & rock hard about day 3/4. Was really uncomfortable and made it difficult to feed - DS couldn't really get hold of my nipple & seemed quite put off by the sudden hugeness! I found hand expressing a few drops first helped. Didn't last too long.

I also remember spending a lot of time winding DS after feeds. MUCH longer than I had expected. Maybe if baby isn't settling you could try a bit more winding? I used to wake DH and hand baby to him after I'd fed so he could do the winding - otherwise i'd never have had a break!

Been having mild pains since yesterday eve but don't know if it's really the start of anything proper...

BB01 · 06/07/2013 04:58

Thanks Dinky! Good to know or won't last forever!! Blowing seems to help. Nappy change definitely wakes her but it also makes her scream blue murder!

dinkystinky · 06/07/2013 05:21

Cheese - it does get better, I promise x

Re poos - eat lots of fruit and veg - dates, prunes, dried apricots, plums all great. Or send dh out to get some lactulose for you to make sure your first movement is soft. Giving birth plays havoc with your digestive system so is common to be difficult to poo at first. A little walk in the sun might help get things moving if you feel up to it.

Re boobs - sounds like your milk has come in. Hot flannels on thge boobs and hand express a littyke bit out before feeding Juno and making sure she's emptying the boobs will help.'again v common for babies to be unsettled when milk comes in - make sure you're burping her fully post feed as gas in their tummy when lying down can cause discomfort. And don't change her post feed unless you need to wake her to finish her feed off or she's wet or there's been a poonami - far better for you to get some sleep in. An ex scbu nurse taught me the trick of a thick layer of barrier cream of your choice at the 10/11pm feed and, if no poos or wees, you can get through to 5 without a change - it was a life changing tip (or felt like it at the time).

Headache - possibly hormones and tiredness combined. Don't be afraid to take some paracetemol. Lavender (sniff or rub on temples but put in a carrier oil first) might help too. And please please please do sleep during the day when Juno does - its one of the best things about having your first baby that you can do that without other kids demanding your time and wakeful attention - make the most of it. This nocturnal wakefulness phase of hers will pass soon.

So in summary, chin up Cheese and all those with newborns - its bloody hard work but you're doing brilliantly. Just do what you need to do to get through this phase - and remember its just a phase.

OP posts:
princessllama · 06/07/2013 05:50

First poo is a nightmare. I agree with dinky- lots of fruit, veg and water. Feet on upturned waste paper bin too whilst on loo was told to me by a physio.
My breasts have gone much more squishy this week and after rock solid phase made me panic milk was going but just normal change turns out.

Dinky and shelley ( i think) thank you for positive of dairy free, i am starting to want to lick the butter dish already. Humphrey seems to be doing well on it so far so will persevere. Main problem at moment is his efforts to poo- starts gurning at 5am and keeps going. Intermittently till he finally manages it at 6pm. We think it's the after effects of ventilator and morphine.
Slouching, i told dh your dh had complained about the smell of baking and he didnt underdtand why this was so outrageous so i wouldn't recommend him for a trade in, he's also a workaholic with an infuriating twitter addiction. He is tsking the kids rock climbing on sunday morning though so not all bad.
The birds are starting to sing and humphrey is back asleep so better dismantle expressing kit and get back to bed.
Dinky- i'm just off end of portabello so close!

princessllama · 06/07/2013 05:53

Evelyn and esme ( i think thiugh may have wrong names, apologies)- ask away re cranial osteopathy. I've been in practice for 12 years now specialising in babies etc, so hapoy to answer your q's and recommend a good cranial osteopath near to you if you need.

Cheeseandbread · 06/07/2013 06:08

Totally, Citizen, Dinky and princess thank you so much for advice re feeding and pooing.

After 2 magic hours of sleep my headache is gone. I'm feeding again and boobs are pretty solid but you have given me hope that maybe this is normal and not the start of an infection.

A good friend of mine has just had their baby- I've seen an update- we had the same due date- I can't believe both out babies are here and am sat in bed crying- think the hormones have kicked in along with the milk...

It is really reassuring hearing from those who have done this before so thank you again Flowers

Good luck Citizen it looks like things are hotting up!

Cheeseandbread · 06/07/2013 06:19

I've just done a poo- and it looks like she might be going to settle after her feed for another sleep- woohoo! Thank you ladies xx
