When I think they try and put you off an epidural just because they have to stay with you once you've had one to monitor you so it's a drain on resource, of the people I know who have had them or not all have torn, ( it really isnt as bad as you think girls!) the ones without worse and the only ones I know who have had forceps didn't have epidurals or had one because they had to have forceps iyswim, I've heard pethadine makes you feel not there and sick aswell
Kitten 36+ wks Shock I can't believe it!

kittykatsforever · 19/08/2013 15:53

Oh and I measured 2 wks behind with dd1 and 1 with dd2, I thought it was good too lol and they wernt small, 6,10 3wks early and 7,8 10days early!

RedRobin1 · 19/08/2013 16:17

Congratulations little I am also Shock about 10lb 3 baby and on gas and air! Really happy for you Smile Hope you are enjoying these special moments with lots of cuddles with ds2. Congratulations again!!

I have worked myself up into a bit of state. I just feel like something is wrong. I haven't felt baby moved since the initial flutters at 17w. No flutters or movement since. I am more nervous and worried compared to the 12w scan. Scan on Thursday, 20w tomorrow. Just want to see my baby.

resipsa · 19/08/2013 16:41

Alex I'm not officially on this thread (yet!) but I only had gas/air cause I was fully dilated by the time I went to hospital (Shock). Glad I did cause the RELIEF as DD's bottom half slithered out was an intensely pleasurable feeling which I will never forget Smile.

weechops · 19/08/2013 17:38

Oh wow little congratulations!!! Well done you pushing your lovely big boy out! My ds was 10lb 4 and I had emergency section - cant imagine doing it naturally :) so so pleased for you x

Kittenkatzen · 19/08/2013 18:03

I can't believe I'm 36wks already either! And the bloody tens machine I mentioned this morning arrived in this afternoon's post, just in case I needed a reminder - all getting scarily real now!

Thingymajigs · 19/08/2013 18:36

I think even the most relaxed women struggle with nerves before a scan red. I wouldn't worry about not feeling the baby too much because this is your first. Sometimes the baby isn't in the right position to feel the movements or you could just have a very relaxed baby. Ds2 was one of those which sent my MW in to a panic because he barely moved. Good luck with the scan. Hope baby is more compliant this time and turns around for you. I'm hoping my baby isn't also doing another face plant pose. I want to see his profile.

Thingymajigs · 19/08/2013 18:40

kitten I always started to get scared when I realised various food items went out of date after my due date. I really panicked when the milk expired after my EDD.

LittleMissSnowShine · 19/08/2013 20:42

kitten - wow 36 weeks!! You won't regret that tens machine - I thought it was just so so with DS1 so I only gave in and hired one at 38 weeks but i couldn't have done without it yesterday, had it on the whole way through, only turned it off when I was actually holding DS2 in my arms!

when - I had remi with DS1 and I hated it. I had no idea how out of it I would be and like you, they took me off it before pushing but I was catheterised and on a heart trace so still ended up just pushing flat on my back which is hardly the ideal! Ended up needing episiotomy too just to get him out. I prob wouldn't have necessarily chosen the natural birth route last night if I had had much of a choice but I would far rather that than remi again!

red - aww sorry you are feeling anxious but I am sure it will all be fine and you'll be feeling loads of kicks soon Thanks

kittykatsforever · 19/08/2013 20:58

Red try not to worry, first time I felt anything with dd1was 19wks and I've heard lots of people say it was 23wks it really does depend on how they are lying! I think it will be the build up of emotions as you prepare for the 20wk scan and the nervousness, you will see your cute little baby waving on Thursday Smile

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 20/08/2013 11:55

red try not to worry about movement too much. I've always found they can vary a lot with the amount of movement you feel. It's usually just the babies position.

little I quite liked the remi. I was at the stage where I just wanted the pain to go away. Remi certainly managed that. I guess what suits one doesn't suit another, I think pethidine does help most with pain but for me they might as well have injected me with a placebo.

Well I spoke to my midwife yesterday, she was concerned about my having diarrhoea for 2 months damn you ibs and advised I see my GP.

She has signed me off work for 2 weeks saying I sounded washed out with all the colds and vomiting bugs. I think she thinks the ibs is stress related from work and I need to relax. I hadn't really thought about it but I piled weight on in the first trimester but I haven't actually put any on in the past 2 months.
Am going to take my meds and chill out. Hope you are all ok.

BelissimaLol · 20/08/2013 13:30

Oh wow little!!!! You officially win the hard core award!!!! Me being at work until the day before is nothing compared to you having a 10 pounder on gas!!!! I had a 7 pounder with epidural so am officially a chicken GrinGrin
Hope your enjoying him. Have you named him yet???
Red I know whatever we say won't reassure you but just hold on until the scan. After that it does get easier. Promise. unless you are like me and find new things to worry about such as undiagnosed conditions or still birth then this last half of the pg should be more enjoyable!!!
Right. Who is next?? Kitten???

LittleMissSnowShine · 20/08/2013 18:59

lol - epidural def does not make you chicken Wink healthy happy baby is most important result! Hope Lara is doing well - we called DS2 Oisín.

when - glad you have been signed off, you have been having a tough time healthwise & its v important to get enough rest xx

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 20/08/2013 22:14

lol if you are a chicken then so am I, I didn't get an epidural with dd but I begged for one.

little Grin can't believe I'm getting sympathy from someone who has just given birth to a 10 pound baby. Thanks though, I'm feeling a bit guilty but I'm going to use the time to eat, relax and try and get a few more pounds on me and the baby. I don't need any more padding, I have plenty already but if it helps the sprog I'm happy to do it and diet later.

Thingymajigs · 22/08/2013 10:01

Did anyone else here not get a nuchal measurement at the 12 week scan due to baby's position? I've just come back from my 16 week mw appointment and I'm now quite anxious. She said it was rare for someone not to be given a measurement, almost as if she was suggesting that that in itself was indicative of a potential problem. I've had a blood test today to give me a risk factor for downs syndrome and she seems really concerned. But her concern seems to be based on 1) not having a measurement 2) my age (31) and 3) a minor brown bleed last week.

Alexandra6 · 22/08/2013 16:22

thingy that's strange, did they forget to write it down and put in your notes maybe? She's probably concerned because it's standard procedure at 12 week scan and she can't work out why they didn't do it or haven't written it down. I'm sure you would have been told if the measurement indicated a problem at all. If I were you, I'd ask for a rescan if the scanning dept can't shed any light or check any extra notes. I bet it's just your sonographer being disorganised, try not to worry.

I'm so tired today! Really trying not to slack off work during pregnancy but it's hard when you're this tired! At least it's nearly the long wkend. I'm also nearly in the third trimester and getting a bit uncomfy sometimes! Still love bumpy though no matter how uncomfy I get!

RedRobin1 · 22/08/2013 18:59

thingy I wouldn't worry about it. My baby was in transverse position at 12w scan and we couldn't get the nuchal measurement either. My age is 31 and my midwife didnt seem concerned. We had the quad blood test instead which came back fine.

alex hope you get to rest a bit.

when hope you feel better soon. Don't feel guilty about work. Just look after yourself.

We had our 20w scan today. I was having some sort of meltdown 24hrs before about baby being okay. But all was good and baby doing a dance and wriggling around Smile also got told I have an anterior placenta which is why I haven't been able to feel movement yet. Hopefully I'll be able to feel something in 4 weeks time.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 22/08/2013 19:24

thingy try not to worry too much. 31 isn't that old at all and I don't think the scanner not writing it down means anything at all.

alex wow 3rd trimester already. I know what you mean about feeling tired.

red really glad the scan went well. It's so hard not panicking about the baby. And you know why you haven't been feeling much so extra reassurance.

Alexandra6 · 22/08/2013 22:43

Yay red! Glad it went well. I also wasn't feeling movement every day at that stage and I'm not even sure that was the placenta, now at 26 weeks I get lovely daily kicks!

Had a bit of a weird feeling earlier when talking to a friend of a friend I'd just met about the baby. She was clearly not a baby person at all and didn't hide it, and it made me feel silly so I played down my happiness/excitement.

RedRobin1 · 23/08/2013 05:53

Can't believe I am up so early gobbling a bowl of cereal! My appetite is back Grin yay! Although I seem to be constantly stuffing myself with food these days.

Yes it was such a relief to see baby waving and moving all over the belly. Just got to wait a little longer to feel him/her.

alex You are allowed to be happy and silly with excitement! When I became pregnant I told myself I won't be one of those women who constantly talks about babies and pregnancy ....haha didnt last long! It's just such a big event in your life that takes over every thought. It's like expecting a bride not to talk about her wedding!

Thingymajigs · 23/08/2013 07:03

So glad the scan went well and you're eating again. Make up for lost time and eat everything. Smile I'm having to calorie count after putting on 7lbs already at just 16 weeks!
Alex, most of my friends don't have children, either because they don't want any or because it just hasn't happened for them yet. Which is odd really since I've had children since I was 18 but don't have any friends with kids. Maybe I've put them all off.the idea. Grin Anyway, I find I downplay my pregnancy incase I bore or worse- upset them, which is fine by me. There are always places like this I can vent to. People do expect pregnant women to be excited though so don't worry.
Thanks for the reassurance everyone. My mw just felt like preparing me for complications, obviously. Not that it would matter either way of course. DP and I had a lovely chat about raising a SN child yesterday.
Off on a long weekend to a cottage in Wales today. Last childfree trip in a very long time I imagine. Hope you all have a great weekend and bank holiday.

kittykatsforever · 23/08/2013 08:57

Congrats red! Wow I bet you loved every minute, 20wks half way through!!
We're you not tempted to ask what flavour? Wink
Thingy did you ask for the measurements at 12wk scan? At mine you have to sign a form saying you want it, after that they never wrote mine down and I chased it up at 20wk scan as they didn't have it at 16wk mw app so try not to worry

Kittenkatzen · 23/08/2013 14:37

red hurrah for the lovely scan news! Also glad they could spot the reason you've not been feeling much, must be reassuring for you.

alex it's not you, some people are just weird like that - my friend's OH is, and he has a 3 year old of his own! Unfortunately I think he likes to think of himself as "one of the lads" so any time the conversation turns to babies/children, he just sits there with a face like a slapped arse until the subject gets changed. Idiot.

when hope the rest is doing you good and you're feeling a bit better?

I'm having a lovely "proper" maternity leave day today - not going into DHs office to help out like I have been, instead have baked some Mary Berry gingerbreads, done a couple of washloads, met DH for lunch in town, and am going to do some more sorting out in the nursery when i can be bothered to drag my butt up the stairs :)

37+1 today.....scary biscuits!!

OP posts:
Alexandra6 · 23/08/2013 14:57

My DH has a friend with a baby and toddler who just moans about how awful it is all the time! This girl last night was saying that women with babies who don't work end up talking in baby voices and can't have adult conversation, and have nothing else in their lives which scared me as my work situation might be unstable after mat leave!

Speaking of work, I'm secretly jealous that you're signed off work when Wink although how are you feeling, has your stomach been better with the rest? Do you think it was stress related? Also a bit jealous of your mat leave day kitten! See mat leave sounds lovely, I've heard people say they got bored but bet I won't! 37 weeks though eek! How am I 26 already - must be really exciting/scary for you now!

kittykatsforever · 23/08/2013 18:56

Alex I wasn't bored for one day! I only had 10 days though but I could have easily enjoyed another few weeks!
Kitten 37+1 eek I had had dd1 by now just to scare you! it could be anytime now!
When hope your feeling better
