Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jennimoo · 18/06/2013 18:40

I have a google doc of my hospital bag list/s. I'll try to share on Facebook...

Kittenkatzen · 18/06/2013 18:46

Crap. GP just called to say my lucozade test came back slightly high so they might want to get me in for the full GTT. Anyone else had high results? Apparently they also need to redo my full blood count test for some reason - I assume that's the booking in bloods from ages ago?? Need to call mw tomorrow to discuss Sad.

at all the talk of chopping/picking/tying off bits of random skin...!

On the nightwear front I normally wear the girlie boxer style shorts and a vest in bed so will take those plus some pj's and will have to buy some kind of nightie contraption for in labour I guess. Also hoping for a water birth though in which case it will be ditched - I'm not shy Smile

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 18/06/2013 19:09

Nighties or oversized tshirts, and enormous cotton pants, are the way forward. You need the pants to hold on to the maternity pads (not only bigger but have a soft texture so as not to aggravate skin/stitches) and will probably find that pj bottoms on top make you very sweaty down below. If hospital very hot, the big pants and a bf-ing vest top might be good as bed-wear. MWs will also occasionally want to check your undercarriage for how the stitches look, so you may not be wearing anything on your lower half for some hours, just sitting in bed with a big absorbent bed pad.

Readytosettle · 18/06/2013 19:13

LOL at the emotional moments frog. I was sat next to a couple at the hospital who'd just had their 12wk scan...it was all I could do to hold back full on blubbering at the emotion of it all...

Dorita75 · 18/06/2013 19:47

Hi all,

I?ve suddenly started feeling really lardy-arsed as I?ve stopped all exercise, so trying to do some. Friends in work are saying just enjoy doing nothing it?s the only time you can, but I?m missing my ?slightly ? toned legs and arms and want them back!!

Yes LCR we?re really struggling on names. Okay for a girl but no boys ones at all. Any either of us like the other doesn?t...

With you on the bras mrsmango mine haven?t snapped yet(!) but I?m bulging out all over the place!!!

Jennimoo I had a big increase in movements about a week&half ago (26 wks) and nothing to do with wc jab as not had it yet. Emmadee this started just after 26 weeks and I?ve also got a low lying placenta which I assume has moved as I?m getting kicks all the way round on my right side, feels so strange, but lovely!

Why are people carrying their notes around? In case you go into labour? I just take mine to appointments.

On kick counting jammy I looked into it and got confused by all the ways to do it so not sure whether to do or not. Might just keep a note on a notepad of times and keep that on me.

No probs with lenses yet Mrsmooster but I?m waiting for it to happen!

jennimoo · 18/06/2013 20:20

I'm not carrying my notes. They weigh a tonne! Should probably keep them in the car but not sure when I'll get round to it!

MammaGnomes · 18/06/2013 20:57

Hi ladies
Any one else's OH's being really insensitive re labour? Not sure if I'm just being really touchy but whenever I tell him how scared I am he just keeps giving me answers like "you'll be fine" "it won't hurt" "loads of women do it" all of which Arnt helpful and it's really starting to get to me Hmm

Kittenkatzen · 18/06/2013 21:25

mammagnomes my DHs favourite is "don't worry, I'll be there" Hmm er, thanks DH I feel so much better!

Thing is though I guess there really isn't much they can say to help is there? Perhaps a few episodes of OBEM might help get your point across a little (you could hunt out the ones with the screamers in advance...Wink)

JammyTummy · 18/06/2013 21:41

DH had recently asked me what I reckon he should wear to hospital when I go into labour Hmm

MrsMangoBiscuit · 18/06/2013 22:00

OBEM season 2 episode 1 I think, if you're after a screamer. She slaps her DH too Grin

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 18/06/2013 22:06

I'm hoping DH will be wearing a t-shirt less than 10 years old this time... the first picture of him with DS has him wearing a scruffy t-shirt which I have still not managed to relegate to the decorating department.

He also gets very grumpy/sleepy when he hasn't eaten, has fast metabolism and poor blood sugar regulation. So actually having lots of snacks and water for him is a decent insurance policy for me to get some support!

dakomponist · 18/06/2013 23:00

So apparently Pet Shop Boys are not at all to the bumps taste. It went mental from start to finish. It was very loud though and the bass was vibrating my body quite a bit too. I hope it'll go to sleep alright now we're home.Grin

CharlW1 · 18/06/2013 23:02

Have had such a day today - I went to the hospital for a consultant appointment - sat waiting for 2 hours. The midwife saw me inbetween and told me that my results from the GTT scan came back and I do gave gestional diabetes! I saw the consultant about my bloods for all of 30 seconds (he was useless) and then spent a good hour with the diabetes midwife - I am now under her care - which I am pleased about as she seems so knowledgeable, made the time to answer all my questions and really listened. I now have to try and control the diabetes with diet and exercise. I also have a scan next week, at 32 weeks and at 36 weeks - as well as attending diabetic clinic every other week! at 36 weeks they'll make a decision to induce me or not at 38 weeks. I also have to take my blood sugar levels 4 times a day.

Readytosettle · 19/06/2013 07:50

Charl my consultant appointments are always that naff...don't know why they can't just check ur bloods & only call u in if there's a problem...

Diabetes thing sounds like a faff, but at least u get some extra scans! How l

Readytosettle · 19/06/2013 07:51

Oops, posted before I finished....I was trying to say how long after your GTT did they tell u? I had mine yesterday so wondering how long I should be on edge for...

CharlW1 · 19/06/2013 07:55

Ready it was the next day they told me - originally they said 2 - 3 days for a result either way so you should hear soon.

Yes looking forward to the extra scans! Smile

fl0b0t · 19/06/2013 08:44

Sounds like lots of stresses here! Hope you're all ok and not too emotional!

Baby has spent just over two days going loopy inside me and It's work me out a bit. Am uneccessarily tired and didn't enjoy squeezing bump past stinky smoker commuters early this morning.

Next week our entire kitchen and kitchen-diner floor are being wripped out and replaced. We have never had any work like this done and I'm trying my hardest not to be stressed. Work is mega
Busy. Tiiiiired.

Ps feet too far away. This is only going to get harder.....argh! I am loving being pregnant but it is blooming hard.

badguider · 19/06/2013 09:35

Can't believe some of you are onto hospital bags already.. I still don't have a moses basket matress, a cot or any bedding (not to mention no clothing either!)

Had my 28wk appt on monday, and the MW was wonderful and hardly bruised me at all taking blood (last two have been a massacre on my arms). Also had my anti-D as am Rh- so that makes me feel a bit more secure. No WC offered yet but there's plenty of time.

Went away for work after the appt and couldn't sleep at all in the premier inn, it was sooo hot and the more i thrashed around the more the boy wiggled and kicked and i just didn't sleep at all... by the time my train got in at about half eight yesterday i almost couldn't move for tiredness - head thumping and feeling i was honestly going to vomit with tiredness :( DH had to come and get me from the station and I crawled into bed barely taking time to pull my clothes off.
I'm a bit worried to be honest if that's what I'm going to feel like every day once we have the baby Shock - there won't be enough paracetamol and caffeine in the world to keep me going if so Sad

RunningBear78 · 19/06/2013 09:50

A short note on GTT and gestational diabetes ... provided by my new guru Ina May Gaskin.

So, Charl try not to worry too much, it is actually your body doing what it is supposed to. No harm, however, in taking extra care over your diet and exercise levels I guess. And enjoy the extra scans!

?Gestational Diabetes is not really a disease. Rather, it is a higher level of blood sugar than average during pregnancy, as determined by a glucose tolerance test (GTT). GD differs from diabetes mellitus in that GD goes away after the baby is born. Diabetes mellitus does not. Many doctors recommend this test for all pregnant women, to be performed between twenty-four & twenty-eight weeks of gestation. The test, unfortunately, is not very reliable. Between fifty and seventy percent of women, if retested, will have a different result than they got from the first test. The best evidence we have says there is no treatment for GD, either with diet or with insulin, that improves the outcomes for mothers or their babies. In short, the anxiety that is often produced by this test simply isn?t worth the information gained from it.?

Quite a good full discussion online here

ION my DH got all teary and scared last night when we were thinking through what questions to ask at the birth centre today when we go for our tour. He's terrified something awful will happen, and I just don't know what to say. I can't promise things will be fine, they might not be ... then I get scared too and that isn't helpful either.

frog you just cheered my up with your tale of super cute mini haribo, although I think it almost made me cry too. I can see today is going to be HARD work!

badguider · 19/06/2013 10:24

runningbear - how did you manage to order a hired nct bednest for delivery in september? I just tried to but at checkout it just offered 'standard' or 'express' delivery - i don't want it now!!

Stubbed · 19/06/2013 10:32

Joskar: hi, I'm also due in September and wanted to answer your question about cloth nappies. I use them for my 17 month old and currently just strip washing the small ones to be ready for the baby.

I was given most of them second hand from friends, bought a couple, got a few samples, so a real mixture. In my view it's good to have a mixture since some dry quickly, some are more absorbant & last longer on, etc.

The washing isn't really an issue to be honest, but you need to think about drying them. I use a dryer for the days when it's raining and the heating isn't on, Spring & Autumn; outside when I can, and in a drying room with open window otherwise. You need to consider all the water that would be in the air if you dry indoors in the winter - we got our utility room quite damp before we sorted this out.

Geesescareme · 19/06/2013 12:18

I'm off work today with the worse sore throat ever, rubbish :( missing sports day at school/work which I suppose is a blessing in disguise as the thought of standing on the field all day in this muggy weather is not very appealing!

I have gone into hyper organised/stressy mode about hospital bag packing. My latest irrational worry is what to pack for the baby to wear. Not know what the weather will be like in mid September and how cold it will be. Also all my newborn sized clothes are all completely different sizes and have different weights on them, what if I have a giant baby?!

27 weeks today and finally starting to look properly pregnant. Is everyone wearing full-blown maternity clothes by now? I'm in maternity tops the past week but am in normal jeans and trousers. Also has anyone started getting stretch marks? I don't have any at the moment but think that might be due to the fact I haven't put any weight on yet... Fingers crossed it stays that way!!

Readytosettle · 19/06/2013 13:04

My hospital actually put a packing list online, which is helpful to know what they expect u to have with you. For the baby it says 4 x vests, 4 x babygrows, a hat, something warmer for going home & a pack of 20 nappies.

I think if you get the 1 month/first size stuff then it spans a fairly good weight range....just won't last very long if u have a big baby! I bought Next which says 'up to 11lbs', it won't be the end of the world if it's a bit big, they'll just have dangly bits :-)

frogchops · 19/06/2013 14:33

Thanks ready thats useful. Although 4x babygros seems a lot. Was wondering how many nappies too Wink

CharlW1 · 19/06/2013 14:56

Thanks so much RunningBear I think what the article says is spot on. To .br honest I am glad my sister had it so I knew what to expect - yesterday if I hadn't been prepared for it to be positive then I think I would've got really upset.
I am keeping a food diary but to be honest, what I was told to eat is what I have been eating anyway. I have tested my bloods 3 times today - 2 readings were fine and the other sky high! I'm trying not to worry too much about it.
