ready great idea on the delayed naming tactic, I can't convince DH on my fave boys name so could do with a bit of leverage Grin

jammy I have a couple of teeny skin tags under my arms (nice) but nothing too bad. I also have a mole that has pretty much doubled in size since being pregnant and gone all squashy rather than flat - had the GP check it out and it's fine, but the change is permanent Sad

Is everyone carrying their notes everywhere with them now then? I wondered when to start doing that...

ION had a conversation last night with DH that went like this:

DH: so, you know when we go on holidays and stuff with the baby, I assume hotels have like crèches and things for babies in the evening so parents can go out for dinner.....
Me: er, no not really DH, some have babysitters but obviously you'd be leaving your baby with a stranger...
DH: oh....so we just have to go out for dinner really early and then go back to the room?
Me: pretty much
DH: Shock
Me:

Ah Kitten, that's funny... we went to Spain when DS was nearly 2, now talk about cramping your dinner-eating style...! There was nowhere even open until 8pm, which we knew before we went of course, but thought we could push his body clock around. What ended up happening was we would buy a picnic tapas style dinner and a bottle of wine and sit on our balcony watching the central squares of various Castile and Leon towns come to life as the boy crashed in his ready-bed at the end of exciting days...!

For future reference, it takes 10-14 days to move a child's body clock by two hours properly, but if you go somewhere really long haul oddly it's quicker. Don't really know why but friends who've done the far east, oz/nz and the US say about four days cracks it.

fl0b0t · 18/06/2013 09:31

Jammy ooh I've also had some skin tags under my arms which I've never had before!

Jennimoo My baby has been going mental since yesterday afternoon. Not had WC jab yet (scheduled in for 1 weeks time) and had some serious increased movement with no apparent reason. Baby seems to have moved up a little bit and more diagonal and has been kicking me in the ovary whilst doing some amazing rippling movements (about 5 different bits of my tummy moving at once). Got a bit sick of it last night as it was making me feel queasy and I wanted to go to sleep!

Still at it this morning! Luckily I'm working at home currently in comfy jimjams but have to get dressed to go to a meeting soon!

RunningBear78 · 18/06/2013 09:43

Yes under arm skin tags - wondered what the hell they were never had them before! Also some odd mole growth too.

Kitten I think self catering is the way forward with little'uns! We were in the Lakes a few weeks ago and spotted a couple of grandparents in serious walking kit with a tiny baby in a sling. Think my mum got quite excited about the prospect of being left to baby sit on hols whilst dh and I go off. At least I hope so, I'm really looking forward to going on bike rides with him again!

ION have actually ordered our bednest to hire from NCT!!! EEEEK so excited. It is the first actual big baby thing we've bought. It won't arrive until September, but I've paid for it. Grin

JammyTummy · 18/06/2013 10:05

Kami that's a shame but also understandable- being preggers is stressful enough without a big health concern constantly over your head. I hope you start to feel better about it again in a few days!

I also got a squidgy mole, it's on my boob and its quite gross! I think I might get it lasered off post baby.

Is anybody kick counting? I've read conflicting advice and so far I'm not doing it. Decided that as long I can feel the baby and everything else feels right I won't give myself another added stress.

EmmaDee · 18/06/2013 10:44

Hi all, Kami hope you are keeping well. Yes to the skin tags, though mine seem to be around my lady bits which is really weird!!

Im 26 weeks today! Yippee!! But still not really feeling much, I think its still cause my placenta is at the front. I get weird bubbly feelings but thats it, anyone else in the same boat? Also for some unknown reason (probably because I havent had anything to worry about!) Ive started to worry that my bump is getting any bigger! Think it was because I measured small at my mw appointment last week.

EmmaDee · 18/06/2013 10:50

*isnt

Wincher · 18/06/2013 10:57

Just had my 28 week appointment - all is well, my GTT result was normal, measuring bang on, BP all fine etc. Long may it last...

I'm getting loads of movement at the moment, especially when trying to go to sleep at night.

I have such a hairy tummy and itchy boobs!

LCR77 · 18/06/2013 11:18

Ha ha jammy and ready I like your style with the naming. Maybe it's time to be a little more devious and come up with a strategy. Even though DP didn't initially like my favourite name, he admitted he liked the reasoning behind wanting that name...maybe I just need to build up the argument some more. Or maybe I just need to let it go...[hmmm]

Readytosettle · 18/06/2013 11:21

I actually had some skin tags before pg, and the woman doing my IPL said why don't you just tie them off? I thought it was something u need a doc to do, but decided to give it a go with a bit of cotton...1 week later the skin tag/mole that I'd been living with for years just dropped off! If only i'd known it was so easy!!

jemimahpuddleduck · 18/06/2013 11:26

DH and I luckily are all decided on names (been the same ones since we got engaged 5 years ago) although my sil and step sister are both due before me so really hoping they don't use them!

Jammy I have been thinking about counting the kicks but have decided to just keep an eye on it, like you I didn't want extra stress. I know that baby loves a good wriggle when I settle on the sofa for the evening and when I'm in the office mid morning so unless that changes I won't worry.

Kittenkatzen · 18/06/2013 11:42

jammy I have been known to kick count using a tool on one of my preggo apps, but only if I've been worried that baby was quiet to begin with - generally I don't bother, like you say it's just an added stress. But I the few occasions I've even worried its been nice to have the reassurance there.

Mooster1709 · 18/06/2013 12:05

Jammy I like your name strategy Grin. I might adopt it too...

Yes to skin tags, but mainly around my neck. Gross. I have been known to just cut them off. They bleed for a bit but then all seems normal. Strangely satisfying. Though maybe scissors/neck not an ideal combo.

Kami I was told by consultant after my bleed to expect brown blood for up to a week, if that helps?

On kick counting, I found it more stressful to try to remember whether/if/how much baby had been moving all day than to actually take a 2 hour period and count it. So yes, am counting - a bit sporadically, but I find it reassuring (am paranoid). Got one of those bracelet things and it's actually quite useful, though not beautious.

jennimoo · 18/06/2013 12:12

Baby seems to be moving as usual today, but still not kick counting. I don't think I counted at all last time around, but I think I'd count if I was concerned.

Name-wise we had a name for a boy years ago but recently friends used it! They, however, are using the full name and we would refer to DS as the short name. I spoke to them and they're happy for us to use it so will probably go ahead as cant agree on anything else!

Joskar · 18/06/2013 12:57

Skin tags in abundance. Hairy tummy. Itchy boobs. The glamour of pregnancy! I'm leaving the tags til post pregnancy on the grounds that I'd rather not get anything infected/sever an artery while with child.

Names: we have three girl names that we love but my mother and sister hate. My sister went so far as to say that she would not refer to the child by any of those "old fashioned" names. Perhaps she would prefer I called the bairn Chardonnay?! I'm allergic to modern names after a decade of teaching an unending stream of children with "quirky" spellings of their names or just made up names usually with a hyphen.

DH doesn't think we need any boy names because he's convinced it's a girl. Those who have had babies before: did you know before he/she was born?

Mooster1709 · 18/06/2013 14:05

Joskar I think your approach to the skin tags sounds rather more sensible than mine... and fully in agreement about 'old fashioned' (I prefer 'classic') names. Always think self-consciously quirky names suggest a need to make up for a lack of personality. Having said this, we have no middle name decided op and DH doesn't seem in any hurry to discuss one, so we'll probably end up with Chardonnay or something and I'll have to shut up.

Thinking of asking them to wax my tummy when I brave a bikini line wax this week. How lovely.

Any other contact lens wearers having trouble? By about lunchtime mine are so uncomfortable I have to switch to glasses. and I hate wearing glasses. But no amount of eye drops seems to help.

Mooster1709 · 18/06/2013 14:10

Sorry - just remembered another question for you all: Am going to get a nighdress for hospital just in case of catheter or something. But am usually not a nightie person (in fact, am usually not a nightwear person at all) so thought would also get PJs and wear if possible. But I'm always too hot and if mat wards are as hot as everyone says I will boil. So was thinking of shorts-based PJs. I don't have the legs to wear shorts in public, and am quite cellulite-y. Will I/anyone else care do you think?

Am I overthinking the whole nightwear issue?!

JammyTummy · 18/06/2013 14:11

Joskar, I knew it was a boy, until the sonographer said it was a girl!!! It literally took me days to recover from the shock of it...

I had a skin tag in my bum (sorry tmi) and I was convinced it was a left over piece of wax so I picked it off (ow ow ow) and then had a sore bottom for like three days. And now the rogue is back!!!!!

andadietcoke · 18/06/2013 14:21

I asked the mw about kick counting this morning. She said they used to say ten times in a day, but now it's more of a case of a change in movement for you - so if you know your baby is normally active all day, and kicks at least 50 times, then it's worth getting checked if that suddenly changes to 15 times in a day - does that make sense?

Belvedere · 18/06/2013 16:33

I havent had any pregnancy skin tags but did have one a year or so ago. I tied a bit of cotton round it really tight and one day it fell off, pain free. So try that maybe?

Re the kick counting, I dont count but do have some quieter days and some very hectic days. My little one kept me up a lot last night with giant kicks and squirming. Also, when you are having a busy day it may feel like they are being quiet but actually youve been too busy to notice.

Im a PJ girl too, but am planning on getting a cheap nightie from primark which I can throw away after. Although fingers crossed I can have my water birth which ive ummmed and ahhhed about what ill wear in that and ive decided that nothing is probably better. Half my body will be exposed so I doubt ill care to be totally in the nud! Im not much of a prude anyway.

Readytosettle · 18/06/2013 17:21

I've got a lovely nighty from m&p, didn't want one with thin straps so it suits me fine: m.mamasandpapas.com/products.php?category=maternity-clothes/shop-by-product/nightwear-loungewear#product-S0009893

On the subject of hospital packing, any tips from the veterans on what we should be packing?? R things like disposable pants really necessary or will some sanitary pads do?

flipflump · 18/06/2013 18:25

This hay fever malarkey isn't much fun . . . . and now I've got hives on my eyelids!! I'm having a "poor me" day!! Hmm

frogchops · 18/06/2013 18:32

So I've had 6 hrs sleep in two days and I have no idea how I've managed 9-5 at work today. Have booked off tomorrow but I'm thinking of going to bed already Blush I'm so tired.
Baby has been unusually quiet.... But is really low when he does move....almost like he's tickling my fanjo.
Re hospital wear.... I think I'll buy a nightshirt type thing cheaply... I'm thinking how much of a mission it is to manoeuvre already so if I need to keep whipping of pj bottoms for anyone to have a poke it'll really annoy me.

weebarra · 18/06/2013 18:32

You'll need maternity pads rather than normal sanitary pads - they feel like nappies. And v v v big pants!

frogchops · 18/06/2013 18:37

ION I've cried several times today.... Most amusingly at
1- someone at work had flowers delivered from their DP. I cried.
2- I read that tesco won an award for their mother and baby club. I cried Blush
3- I had some mini haribo.... And the cola bottles were so tiny and cute. I'm ashamed to say I cried at their cuteness. BlushHmm
4- someone told me their birth story at work. No drama, just straight forward birth. I still cried. I give up!!
