Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EmmaDee · 16/06/2013 20:02

Juniper, I've been having the same issues with my dh. Before I got preggers we were both pretty big socialisers! I'm finding it difficult and some of our mate's are really rash they go on about him being under the thumb etc.

I still haven't really figured out what to do about it yet, u think the problem may be exacerbated by my hormones! But I have mentioned it and this weekend he's definitely a lot better.

In other news, does anyone know what the story is with getting bounced about while pregnant? We have a wee speed boat and we were out on the water today, it was really calm but then the wind got up and it was a bit bouncey, is it ok to bounce about?! It felt ok but I was q bit panicky!!

badguider · 16/06/2013 20:11

Hello :)

Just back from a week away in the campervan - some walking, some biking and lots of sunshine so feeling good.

Feel like we both really managed to chill out about everything including the pending arrival...

Off to try to catch up on the past week's posts... not confident I'll manage though - hope you're all well?

jennimoo · 16/06/2013 21:24

Emma - I don't think bouncing around is likely to be a problem at this stage, but could be very useful when you want to get labour started later on ;)

I went over some very sharp bumpy speed bumps qhile driving last week and the baby definitely seemed annoyed, he was wriggling around. I think it woke him up!

RunningBear78 · 16/06/2013 21:35

Hi all, thank you for birthday wishes and reassurance about my negative chocolate related calorie intake! Had an odd evening, but a lovely weekend as my dad came over to visit ... And brought yet more chocolate! Yippeee

Think littl'un has had sugar overdose, and seems a little hyper active, slightly uncomfortable.

Picked up one of our teddy bears today, and randomly measured how long it was to compare with the baby, and baby is bigger! Tried to fold teddy up by my tummy to see how it might fit. Quite amazing/terrifying! babies are really quite big Shock

Fozziebearmum2b · 16/06/2013 21:41

Runningbear-how longs a baby? Might do the same...

I've ordered a nice sized baby which isn't too painful to get out but is big enough to be healthy...have a feeling there's not much choice in the matter though and my bump seems huge!

MW measured my bump on Fri and Im 26cms at 25 wks which puts me almost in 90percentile! She didn't mention it I just looked at my notes. Is anyone else this big? Worried Im going to have some toddler sized child...

herewego2 · 16/06/2013 22:17

Evening all! Really feel like I've gone into trimester 3 mode. I remember this feeling last time of, for example, watching what my DP was doing very carefully with drinking and clocking how much he was contributing to housework etc. I reckon it's 'cos I feel a bit vulnerable and am looking to him to 'man up' and be on the same track as me. Any sign that he's not sends me off into a fowl mood. I nearly exploded at him on Friday but had a rest and something to eat and tried to think of a positive way of making my point without causing long term damage, I hope I managed it!
Another sign of this stage for me is hyper cleaning.... I just found myself bustling and muttering as I decided to spring clean my wardrobe at 8pm tonight. Off my rocker, as I'd been up til 3am with my poorly toddler.
Take care lovely ladies XXX

SGJ · 16/06/2013 23:13

Juniper, my DH is a very social person who is often out with workmates (rather than friends as all of our friends have kids now) and I've found that the only way to avoid feeling pissed off with him for staying out late or being a drunken mong is to quite clearly tell him when I consider a reasonable time to be out until or how capable I need him to be in the morning!!
This might make me sound like a controlling bitch but he can be like a big kid sometimes! Anyway, we've both agreed that it's pointless being pissed off after the fact, having said nothing about our feelings or expectations beforehand!

Joskar · 17/06/2013 00:36

Juniper I'd be upset too. You probably need to have a bit of a heart to heart with him and explain how vulnerable you are just now. The rules have changed. If you can do it without getting shouty or upset so much the better. Good luck!

Fozzie totally with you! Nice medium sized baby in a pain-free delivery. I look at the big, brawny blacksmith I married and I think "fat chance!"

DH felt the bairn kick for the first time tonight. The aforesaid big, brawny blacksmith had a wee tear in his eye. For a big lad he can be a terrible jessie! Smile

jennimoo · 17/06/2013 06:04

Fozzie - my MW measured me 29cm at 28 weeks and said that was quite normal, so nothing to worry about!

Kittenkatzen · 17/06/2013 07:40

Morning Smile

Hope everyone's had a good weekend. Not read back through all the posts I've missed over the weekend yet, will do that in a sec.

fozzie I measured 26cm at 25wks too and my mw doesn't seem worried either. I'm also clinging to the knowledge that a good friend was reliably informed to expect her baby to be over 9lb, but out popped a 7lber! Grin

juniper well done you for surviving the party, sounds hideous! I would have felt the same if my DH had done that - but unfortunately drunk people aren't generally thoughtful people are they and it's easy to get narky when you're the only sober one, let alone preggers and hormonal!

Off to the hospital blood suckers for my lucozade test this afternoon...anyone know if I'm supposed to watch what I eat beforehand or anything? There's nothing in my notes so I assume it's ok if I just make sure I don't drink my lucozade alongside a massive slab of cake?!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 17/06/2013 08:13

Um, not to freak anyone out but I had a lovely little compact bump all the way through, looked at DH towards the end and noticed for the first time what a small head he has, and all his family are quite short (apart from him at 6ft +)... my family all very average, so I was feeling pretty smug going into the end-game... DS was 9lb 5oz and head circumference on the 95th centile. Natural delivery though and only a couple of stitches.

In-law visit yesterday passed almost completely without comment... except when FIL asked if I was still working. Given that all we had talked about up to then was what DH has been doing since his job ended, and ILs know I only recently started in my new role, this was a very weird question.

Readytosettle · 17/06/2013 08:33

kitten I think you're meant to stop eating 12 hrs before & not eat anything til after ur bloods are done...got mine 2moro so was going to check the bit of paper 2nite..

CheeseStrawCraving · 17/06/2013 09:20

Kitten, ready's right. I had mine on Friday, had to stop eating and drinking 12 hrs before (only allowed water, black tea or coffee with no milk or sugar). Then bloods, then lucozade drink, then sit quietly for 2 hrs, then more bloods... Might want to check now!

Thanks Jenni, that seems much clearer on the real nappies, I was feeling slightly overwhelmed but now think I will buy disposables for the hospital part and then introduce the nappies in when I get home...

ION, I had to buy BGKs (big girls knickers) yesterday, but by golly they're comfy. DH laughed when he saw them. At least they're supportive even if he's not Grin

Off to buy car seat this morning, woop woop! Feels like we're getting stuff done now, only 2.5 months to go, eek!

Hope you're all having a fab day!

RunningBear78 · 17/06/2013 09:49

fozzie have put up a photo of Teddy against the belly so you can see! Feeling all maternal towards teddy now Smile

what is the lucozade test?

MW has redeemed herself - apparently she did my MATB1 on the 1st June, so the GP reception staff clearly are the idiots here. MW dropped off another copy at my house on Sunday!

CharlW1 · 17/06/2013 09:54

Currently sitting waiting to have bloods done for diabetes test. Had the finger prick and bloods at 8.30 this morning and the drink and now just waiting.
I have had to fast for 12 hours too kitten .
Busy week of appointments this week with consultant tomorrow and doctors on Thursday - its the same text week with midwife, anti d, bloods bad whooping cough injection. Work is being really good about all my appointments but that's only because I feel obliged to make up the hours.

Girraferama · 17/06/2013 10:06

I don't know about the lucozade test either runningbear - I've got in my notes that I'm due to have blood taken at 28 wk appt (which is booked for next week) but I've not had any special instructions..? Could this be one of those regional things?

RunningBear78 · 17/06/2013 10:09

For hayfever sufferers: I have been testing HayMax from boots. It is basically beeswax, sunflower oil and aloe vera. All organic no drugs so preggo friendly!

You wipe it around your nostrils and it (apprently) stops pollen getting up your nose. I know, I know ... it really shouldn't work, but it seems to! It is quite expensive for a tiny pot, and I'm wondering if vaseline or something wouldn't do the same? Anyway, I've started to suffer now the grasses are out and it does seem to be helping (trialled as I regularly forget to apply when I go out, and return a sneezing ball of snot, but remembered yesterday and this morning and managed a walk through the park (including wildflower meadow) and woods and came back fine!)

flipflump · 17/06/2013 10:16

Giraffe, 28 week bloods with the midwife are routine. They're testing for antibodies etc again, like they did at booking in. They're also checking iron levels as we're now more likely to become anaemic as pregnancy progresses.

Readytosettle · 17/06/2013 10:24

Lucozade test is the Glucose Tolerance Test....only routine if u have family history of diabetes/other risk factors.

I'm pretty sure that I have to drink the lucozade 1 hour before the test, so no before & after for me...am glad I asked for printed instructions now so I can double check when I get home!

Kittenkatzen · 17/06/2013 10:52

Argh omg i'm confused now! I did check my notes this morning and they just say to drink exactly 275ml lucozade 1hr before and then ring a bell to jump the bloods queue, nothing about fasting at all so I assumed I was ok and had a pb bagel for breakfast! Confused I don't have any pre-indicators for diabetes so this is just the routine test in my area. Maybe I'll call the mw to check before I trek up the hosi.

badguider · 17/06/2013 11:06

Interesting - glucose/lucozade tolerance tests are not routine here, we just get our blood sugar measured and a note made if we'd eaten in the previous two hours or not.

I'm off for my 28 week MW this afternoon (at 28+4). I'm always surprised that even though I'm EDD on 5th September, I seem to have all these major milestone appointments much later than a lot of people on this thread - I thought I'd be nearly first.

Hoping the bloods go better this time - my booking bloods gave me a massive haematoma (like a giant blood blister) and then my Nuchal Scan bloods gave me TWO arms that were black and blue for about a 2 inch radius... :(
Also, hoping I don't get given the WC vaccine at the same time as that could result in both arms being out of action for a couple of days and I'm travelling overnight for work this evening / tomorrow and need to carry my bags, also in this warm clammy weather I would like to wear short sleeves.

Kittenkatzen · 17/06/2013 11:09

Phew panic over - got hold of the DAU and they confirmed I only need to fast for the hour after I drink the lucozade Smile strange how it's so different depending on where you are in the country...

badguider I hope they are kinder to your poor veins this time!

Joskar · 17/06/2013 11:53

I have to fast too but I haven't been told about a blood test two hours after the first one. It wouldn't surprise me if I have elevated blood sugar because I'm turning into a chocolate button!

ION my maternity notes have turned up at the hospital. Oh the relief. I was dreading the withering look that the MW would have no doubt given me if I'd 'fessed up to losing them!

Mooster1709 · 17/06/2013 12:12

morning all! (it was morning when I started writing this, then someone came into my office and stayed for an hour. Mainly talking shite. arrrrrrrggggggghhhhh).

Poor you Juniper. There's nothing more frustrating than being sober and tired amongst hammered people. My strategy has been to avoid all drinking situations, because I know I have a low tolerance for this. If it's something I have to go to with DH then I make sure we have a leaving time plan in place before we go. Otherwise I'm happy to send him off on his own. Though I do sometimes find it irritating if he's hungover on a sat when I want to get stuff done...

My notes are looking pretty ramshackle, but I'm not really sure what to do with them. I was told to keep them with my (i.e. in my handbag) at all times, so now they're falling apart and stuck together with sellotape. Not sure they'll last another 10 weeks.

jennimoo · 17/06/2013 12:14

Had wc jab this morning, doesn't hurt yet... When did people's start to hurt?

Ion I am 30 weeks today!
