Congrats dxb

I was just checking back here. Can't believe how time consuming a little tiny human is.

Both my sweeps failed and my cervix was still 'very posterior' when I was in labour and I went from 2cm very posterior and thick to 7cm and baby was on the way in about 4 contractions

You never know what will happen

Good luck, I l

  • I love reading a good birth story! I'm still addicted to pregnancy haha
TerracottaPie · 31/05/2013 19:42

Keep positive lolly it can still happen. I escaped induction by one day with DD2 to have her homebirth.

DS got to 42 weeks and no appearance so no homebirth happened there. I remember being so very very gutted at each passing day. I balled my eyes out with the MW when my sweep was not possible (stupid cervix) and we booked the induction date, so I very much know how you're feeling. But if it helps at all I don't look back on his birth with any regrets or wishes for how it could have been because he's my awesome little dude :)

I did feel quite relieved this time that I didn't feel a homebirth was right for having DD3. It meant although I'd have preferred to not be induced I was more relaxed about it when it came to that point.

Sending spontaneous labour vibes to you and clueless :o

lollypopsicle · 01/06/2013 07:13

Thanks for the positivity peeps. Feeling a bit better this morning. Going to take a picnic and go for a walk in this nice weather with the family.
Hope everyone else still standing is ok today and hello to those on the other side popping back Smile

tasmaniandevilchaser · 01/06/2013 08:46

Oh lolly, this last bit is so hard, but however you give birth, you get your lovely baby. Read my birth story on the FB group for a positive induction story. If you'd told me I'd spend my labour hooked up to monitors on my back in triage and in the car park and it was brilliant, I wouldn't have believed you!

tasmaniandevilchaser · 01/06/2013 08:49

Yes clueless, I think a long walk encouraged DD to arrive, it's the only thing I think might work to bring on labour

joanna1990marie · 01/06/2013 11:27

Im new on this thread, I was due yesterday but my lo seems intent on staying put, have cried numerous times today due to the fact we are in June and I'm still pregnant!!

lollypopsicle · 01/06/2013 11:31

You sound like me joanna! I'm ignoring all texts right now but every time I get one it starts me off again.

Hi everyone, so those funny pains I was having on Thursday turned out to be contractions! Got to regular 10mims by 6pm and went into hospital when they were regular 4mins on Friday morning (so I didn't have to be induced in the end!). Got examined at about 8am and was only2-3cm so went for a walk around hospital til they got closer and more intense, bounced on the ball and got in the pool and managed without pain relief til was 8cm!

Midwife said waters were bulging and pushing me open and baby was back to back so was actually pretty painful! Managed with gas and air til they broke my waters at about 4pm (?) and it all went a bit downhill from there! Baby had pooped in the womb so waters were full of it and ended up going from midwife unit to delivery suite. Contractions got really and and wasn't coping at all, dr said it was too late for pethidine so got an epidural (DP was excellent in telling dr I had to have it now cos she was all oh we can think about it!

Anisthetist wasn't sure epi was going to work as she had trouble getting it in but thankfully it did and then came the best feeling in the world when the pain stopped- omg epi's are amazing! Haha.

Next few hours were pretty chilled and was given hormone drip just to dilate the last 1cm, started pushing at 10pm and our beautiful baby girl was born at 11:01pm weighing 7lb9!
Had a 2nd degree tear and lots of stitches but we got there in the end and she is so amazing and worth every minute!

Hope everyone else still here does well and doesn't have a back to back awkward monster like me as midwife said that's why it was so painful- making me want o push before bub was ready.

Also hope I haven't scared anyone!

X

TigerSwallowTail · 02/06/2013 18:36

Congratulations crafty!!!! And also, well done for getting so far with no pain relief, very impressive Smile

Well I was hoping to go into labour over the weekend but nothing has happened, I have a very stubborn little girl here. I'm being induced tomorrow morning at 12 days overdue and I am a mixture of terrified but also extremely excited, it's strange. Good luck to everyone still waiting, we'll all be at the other side in no time. I may be able to update tomorrow if all goes well and I can get the iPad working.

41+4

lollypopsicle · 02/06/2013 19:07

Well done crafty
Good luck for tomorrow tiger

Well I had a successful and bloody painful sweep today. Have had a lot of cramping and what feel like contractions but we will see as I've had this sort of pain before and it has then died off. Also had quite a bit of 'show' since so she definitely did the job this time!

Fingers crossed this is the start of things and this little madam is evicted soon. Otherwise it looks like hospital induction on Wednesday. But at least I'm down for a water birth if I do have to go in. This makes a big difference to me as thought I wouldn't have the option of water with an Induction. however midwives have been very supportive of me still getting a water birth. It's helped me to relax a bit more Smile

TerracottaPie · 02/06/2013 19:21

Congratulations crafty!!

Good luck for tomorrow tiger. I know what you mean about mix of scared and excited. Hope it's a smooth and steady induction for you. Will look forward to the update, whenever you manage it :)

And lolly well done on getting the sweep done! Fingers crossed it starts something off for you. Nice to know you can still try for the water birth if you do end up going in though.

DXBMermaid · 02/06/2013 19:28

Already posted on FB, but thought I should post here as well.

Birth story (possible TMI)

So on Tuesday at about 12.30 I felt some of my waters starting to go. Called DH who decided to come home rather then wait. Posted about the colour and was told it could possible meconium. Phoned the hospital and got told the same, so they said to come in. As I got off the couch DH came in and the rest of my waters broke.

Went into hospital and got hooked up to synctocin drip at around 15.00 due to being strep B positive and there being meconium in my waters.

They insisted on continuous monotoring of the baby's heartbeat which was a real pain as they couldn't get it to stick and it took a while before they could do an internal one.

Managed with help of my Tens and natal hyponotherapy. Was feeling the contractions quite strongly in my legs. I can't remember at what time, but eventually I started on the gas and air and at some point I was given iv paracetamol to help with the pain in my thighs and that helped for a while, as did getting DH to massage them.

I was still only 4cm after an hour of very strong contractions and was offered an epidural. They tried and couldn't get it in, something about the needle not being long enough. About another hour later someone else tried and he too couldn't get it in. After that it all becomes hazy, according to DH I started pushing at around 09.00. It hurt a lot and I was rather vocal. Eventually Alexandra was born at 12.33 after a vaccuum delivery. Towards the end I was so tired and I thought I couldn't do it, but hearing the Dr say, just a couple more tries and if that doesn't work we'll have to do a section, made me somehow rally and get the power to push her out. (I am convinced that if I had had the epidural I wouldn't have been able to get her out, as I was already finding it hard enough to feel where to push)

DH was fantastic and stayed by my side. He saw things that he probably shouldn't have, but I couldn't have done it without him!

Suffered a small 2nd degree tear, but am already in much less pain so don't think it will hurt for too long.

Anyway, it was all worth it! She is the most beautiful baby in the world (but I might be a tad biased ;) )

CluelessNewbie1 · 02/06/2013 20:02

Well done ladies, glad your babies arrived safely xx

TigerSwallowTail · 04/06/2013 00:48

Smile I have a baby girl. She was born Monday afternoon, I'm shattered and want to go home but we're being kept in overnight as her temp is low and she may have a respiratory problem so needs kept an eye on tonight. Hopefully we'll be back home tomorrow and I'll post the birth story then.

lollypopsicle · 04/06/2013 05:00

Congrats tiger! Grin
I too now have a baby in my arms. Woo hoo! The sweep worked and I got my home birth in the water. Will post details when I can think straight!

TigerSwallowTail · 04/06/2013 07:07

My birth story;

I went to hospital in the morning for my induction at 12 days overdue. A midwife tried to break my waters a few times but failed as baby was so low down, so after a few attempts with the hook and a lot of bouncing on the birthing ball I was no further along and it was discussed that it looked like I would need a drip and wouldn't get my water birth. Eventually the midwife in charge came along and had one more attempt at breaking the waters and it worked so I was sent away to have a good bounce to try and get things moving.

About an hour and a half later though I still wasn't having contractions so it was decided that I would have to have a drip and miss out on going in the pool. 2 midwives and a doctor struggled for a further hour trying to put a drip in me with no success and eventually an anaesthetist had to come along and do it. While this was being done I started getting mild contractions. After about 15 minutes on the drip my contractions were getting worse and worse and I was given gas and air, dp left the room to get me water and when he returned I was in agony and begging for more pain relief.

At this point it was quite worrying as I'd only been having strong contractions for about 30 minutes in total but was clearly struggling with the pain so an epidural was mentioned and another 2 midwives came into the room to try and calm me down. As soon as I heard the word epidural I started begging for one and became very aggitated and spaced out as I was gulping down the gas and air so quickly and was in the worst pain I'd ever been in. They got me on to the bed to examine me and try and put a clip on baby's head so she could be monitored while I had the epidural. As soon as the midwife looked down she announced to everyones surprise that baby's head was there and I started pushing. After about 5 minutes of pushing she was born and I was so confused that I had to keep asking if I had had her yet even though she was lying on my chest.

It all happened so quickly which was really scary but I'm so glad it's over and she's here, her temp keeps dipping and she had to go into an incubator but has now been moved to a warm cot. She's beautiful and I'm completely in love.

TigerSwallowTail · 04/06/2013 07:08

Congratulations lolly! :o

CluelessNewbie1 · 04/06/2013 08:39

Wow that's a dramatic entry into the world! I've been up all night in pain. I don't know what it is, there is very little break between the pains so don't think it's labour it feels like period cramps and back ache and pressure in my back side. Probably trapped wind! But can't shake it even with co-codomol.

joanna0211marie · 04/06/2013 08:50

Aaaarrrggghhh, am I the only one left in the world who was due in May and is still hobbling around with my ever increasing bump. Congratulations to everyone with their new babys im so jealous happy for you. X
