Well that sweep certainly did something, 11 am the Wednesday morning I started contracting and by 15:20 she was out, she is absolutely gorgeous and a healthy 8lbs 3 and a half ounces! Couldn't have anything other that gas and air...which doesn't work.... Because it all happened so fast! got an internal tear which needed 8 stitches. I am soooooo ecstatic about my beautiful baby Lydia rose. At least she didn't drag the whole thing out, bless her gorgeous cute lovely amazing cotton socks! What am I sayin!!! It's her feet that are all those things!.....,right, im goin before I start gushing xxx

Well I had a sweep at 7 last night, hasn't done much apart from make me lose a.bit of my mucus plug, and not much either! :-(. She said she tickled the babys head though, which is a strange idea!

Wow that's a dramatic entry into the world! I've been up all night in pain. I don't know what it is, there is very little break between the pains so don't think it's labour it feels like period cramps and back ache and pressure in my back side. Probably trapped wind! But can't shake it even with co-codomol.

My birth story;

I went to hospital in the morning for my induction at 12 days overdue. A midwife tried to break my waters a few times but failed as baby was so low down, so after a few attempts with the hook and a lot of bouncing on the birthing ball I was no further along and it was discussed that it looked like I would need a drip and wouldn't get my water birth. Eventually the midwife in charge came along and had one more attempt at breaking the waters and it worked so I was sent away to have a good bounce to try and get things moving.

About an hour and a half later though I still wasn't having contractions so it was decided that I would have to have a drip and miss out on going in the pool. 2 midwives and a doctor struggled for a further hour trying to put a drip in me with no success and eventually an anaesthetist had to come along and do it. While this was being done I started getting mild contractions. After about 15 minutes on the drip my contractions were getting worse and worse and I was given gas and air, dp left the room to get me water and when he returned I was in agony and begging for more pain relief.

At this point it was quite worrying as I'd only been having strong contractions for about 30 minutes in total but was clearly struggling with the pain so an epidural was mentioned and another 2 midwives came into the room to try and calm me down. As soon as I heard the word epidural I started begging for one and became very aggitated and spaced out as I was gulping down the gas and air so quickly and was in the worst pain I'd ever been in. They got me on to the bed to examine me and try and put a clip on baby's head so she could be monitored while I had the epidural. As soon as the midwife looked down she announced to everyones surprise that baby's head was there and I started pushing. After about 5 minutes of pushing she was born and I was so confused that I had to keep asking if I had had her yet even though she was lying on my chest.

It all happened so quickly which was really scary but I'm so glad it's over and she's here, her temp keeps dipping and she had to go into an incubator but has now been moved to a warm cot. She's beautiful and I'm completely in love.

Smile I have a baby girl. She was born Monday afternoon, I'm shattered and want to go home but we're being kept in overnight as her temp is low and she may have a respiratory problem so needs kept an eye on tonight. Hopefully we'll be back home tomorrow and I'll post the birth story then.

Already posted on FB, but thought I should post here as well.

Birth story (possible TMI)

So on Tuesday at about 12.30 I felt some of my waters starting to go. Called DH who decided to come home rather then wait. Posted about the colour and was told it could possible meconium. Phoned the hospital and got told the same, so they said to come in. As I got off the couch DH came in and the rest of my waters broke.

Went into hospital and got hooked up to synctocin drip at around 15.00 due to being strep B positive and there being meconium in my waters.

They insisted on continuous monotoring of the baby's heartbeat which was a real pain as they couldn't get it to stick and it took a while before they could do an internal one.

Managed with help of my Tens and natal hyponotherapy. Was feeling the contractions quite strongly in my legs. I can't remember at what time, but eventually I started on the gas and air and at some point I was given iv paracetamol to help with the pain in my thighs and that helped for a while, as did getting DH to massage them.

I was still only 4cm after an hour of very strong contractions and was offered an epidural. They tried and couldn't get it in, something about the needle not being long enough. About another hour later someone else tried and he too couldn't get it in. After that it all becomes hazy, according to DH I started pushing at around 09.00. It hurt a lot and I was rather vocal. Eventually Alexandra was born at 12.33 after a vaccuum delivery. Towards the end I was so tired and I thought I couldn't do it, but hearing the Dr say, just a couple more tries and if that doesn't work we'll have to do a section, made me somehow rally and get the power to push her out. (I am convinced that if I had had the epidural I wouldn't have been able to get her out, as I was already finding it hard enough to feel where to push)

DH was fantastic and stayed by my side. He saw things that he probably shouldn't have, but I couldn't have done it without him!

Suffered a small 2nd degree tear, but am already in much less pain so don't think it will hurt for too long.

Anyway, it was all worth it! She is the most beautiful baby in the world (but I might be a tad biased ;) )

Congratulations crafty!!

Good luck for tomorrow tiger. I know what you mean about mix of scared and excited. Hope it's a smooth and steady induction for you. Will look forward to the update, whenever you manage it :)

And lolly well done on getting the sweep done! Fingers crossed it starts something off for you. Nice to know you can still try for the water birth if you do end up going in though.

Well done crafty
Good luck for tomorrow tiger

Well I had a successful and bloody painful sweep today. Have had a lot of cramping and what feel like contractions but we will see as I've had this sort of pain before and it has then died off. Also had quite a bit of 'show' since so she definitely did the job this time!

Fingers crossed this is the start of things and this little madam is evicted soon. Otherwise it looks like hospital induction on Wednesday. But at least I'm down for a water birth if I do have to go in. This makes a big difference to me as thought I wouldn't have the option of water with an Induction. however midwives have been very supportive of me still getting a water birth. It's helped me to relax a bit more Smile
