Very early days but I'm due 26 January - really expecting early February after being 15 days late with DC1. Thought I'd get the ball rolling Grin

Anyone else?

That does sound very scary vix. :( were you told what they thought had caused the PPH?

Bearfrills · 21/06/2013 20:38

I can imagine it was scary vix! That's a lot of blood Confused

I toyed with the idea of a homebirth for DS but ended up classed as high risk due to repeated bleeding. With DD I got no option, she was a missed breech (with the cord in a figure-8 round her legs) so off I went for an EMCS just half an hour after the scan that confirmed it.

This baby will, hopefully, be a VBAC so will definitely be a hospital birth.

Thingymajigs · 21/06/2013 20:46

After a very unpleasant induction at a hospital I had a wonderful second labour at a midwifery unit. That was 10 years ago though when I was a lot braver and more confident. I seem to be veering more towards a hospital birth this time.

wplum · 21/06/2013 20:51

Thank you, nothing more down there . I've just cried at the RBS advert, the hormones are getting silly now! I was bawling earlier at the 'ill always be your mum' song on dinosaur train, dd was like (hmm)

feekerry · 21/06/2013 20:55

I am hoping for a elec cs. Had a crash cs last time around after a 3 day labour, failed induction and b2b baby. I am not in a hurry to repeat that so hoping i will get an elec this time around.
Love the idea of a home birth tho. That would be my second choice i think but obv i wouldn't get that.
Kinda what you know best and i had a positive experience with my cs so would rather stick with that.

Out of interest what things before or after baby arrival are you going to do differently this time around if this is dc2 or more for you???
Def going to try to get this dc to nap in cot and not on me/boob. Also, not going to eat for 2 this time around!

ChocoFrog · 21/06/2013 21:10

Had my second scan this morning and joy of joys there was a heartbeat Grin can't tell you how relieved we were to be walking out of the epu with good news for a change. I now feel brave enough to see the gp and get the ball rolling.
Littlest I also had my dates changed but only by 4 days. The lovely nurse at the epu said that it doesn't really mean much at this stage cos everything is so small but to wait for 12 week scan for more realistic dating.
Was really hopeful it was a sticky bean as I've been horrendously nauseous since Sunday. Had to run out of a big presentation at work yesterday to throw up. Would have been very Hmm if I'd felt so sick and seen no heartbeat! Can finally start to enjoy myself, apart from the sore boobs, sickness, tiredness and very burpy gas...oh well!

vix206 · 21/06/2013 21:24

No they never said. I have my notes which don't say anything either. The best guess is that it was hyper stimulation of the uterus because I remember they really struggled with that. I was having contractions that lasted for 5 minutes at one point, quite early on. I think 16 hours of that just caused my body to 'give up'. That's what the community midwife said was her theory.

Really hoping for a much better experience this time, and desperate not to need an induction again!

This is my DC3 and I've been wondering about the labour, I've never gone in for having too much of a plan, as it all has to be so subject to change at the last minute anyway. DC1 was 3 weeks early, after water broke and had to be induced (had epidural), DC2 was 4 days late, came within 2 hours of first contraction, and 15 mins after I got to the hospital, had time to scoff 4 paracetamol in the car. I feel like it's anybodies guess.

One thing I may do differently is not spend too much time entertaining breast feeding nazi Midwives in my home. In fact I may just say I'm going to express and bottle feed from day 1 as find them such an annoying bunch. Of course breast feeding is a wonderful thing, and it's so great for all who enjoy it, but I really don't, and have only done it both times out of sheer guilt!

littlestgirlguide · 21/06/2013 21:38

That's great news Chocofrog :-)

What will i do different this time? I Too will not be bullied by the breast feeding mafia. I managed 2 weeks last time round, and it took longer than that for my poor bleeding nipples to heal :-( I felt so dreadful when I finally gave up and got some formula - but my DD is the picture of health and happiness and I needn't have worried.

laura0007 · 21/06/2013 22:39

My scan date came through today for the 11th July. I will only be just over 10 weeks then though so surely they want be able to date it properly will they?

pettyprudence · 21/06/2013 23:22

hmm second time round? Probably worry less and will hopefully be a bit more clear headed (on the phone to dm with 7w ds screaming - my mum said just feed him. Doh!) I really hope this next one likes their own personal space as much as ds - by 5/6 weeks old he would no longer feed to sleep and preferred to sleep in his massive cot bed Shock I didn't know babies could self-settle/not feed to sleep so I rocked and quite frankly irritated him for a couple of weeks (he does not like ANY human interaction when tired!) until I learnt to just leave him alone. Not sure I will get lucky twice....

moominlike · 21/06/2013 23:33

Hi everyone. Bad news today unfortunately, hormone levels have not risen so they suspect a mmc at 4 weeks. Am devastated. Scan on Wednesday to confirm so I am trying to prepare for the worst. Was lovely starting to get you know you all and best wishes for your February bundles xxx

Lol at petty prudence - my mum said exactly the same thing when I rang her saying DD was still crying after her feed... Give her another 2oz and see what happens... Out like a light :-)

littlestgirlguide · 21/06/2013 23:43

Oh no moomin I'm sorry :-(

bugsyburge · 22/06/2013 00:28

ah moomin I'm sorry Thanks

Ladybee · 22/06/2013 03:34

Very sorry to hear Trinpy and Moomin's news. It's very hard to go through it, time is really the thing that helps with the sadness.

Bearfrills, you could try contacting the head of midwifery if you're not assigned a midwife you're happy with. But do you see the same one throughout? When I was in the uk I saw a team, so practically a different one each time. I have bedtime sickness too...it's my big cue I'm getting too tired.

My symptoms are still on the level - I'll be close to 8 weeks now so I'm really hoping this is a pg like DS's rather than DD's...and if so, whether that will be any clue to this one's sex?

For sickness - sleep, fizzy water, Japanese rice crackers, apples & cheese, peppermint tea, and fresh air...I was dreading the school run but actually find getting out for the walk really helps shake it off in the morning.

Littlest hooray for heartbeat! I had a scan on Thursday and the dr measured twice and the dating changed by 5 days between the two - it's a matter of a few mm and the angles make big difference at this stage. What matters is the hb, and with luck that'll continue, then the dating scan at 12 weeks will give you a more accurate EDD.

I don't know what I'm going to do this time around - except possibly try to insist DH comes home from work earlier. I can cope with DS & DD but mostly because DS is 5 and can happily get himself in and out of the shower, dressed and occupy himself while I get DD sorted. I will be needing tips from those with smaller age gaps this time around. DS was c-section, DD was VBAC but I'll leave any decisions about this one til a lot later on. There are so many things that can impact on it between now and then.

I wonder if there will be any twins in this group?

Novascotia33 · 22/06/2013 06:40

So very sorry Moomin, it's really not uncommon in these early days, but I know that doesn't make it hurt any less - thoughts are with you.

Ladybee my DS is also 5 and very pretty sufficient, my DD is 22 months behind him, she's 3 but will be 4 by the time the new baby comes, how old is your DD?

sunflowered · 22/06/2013 07:22

So sorry moomin Flowers

Middy75 · 22/06/2013 07:28

I've had to buy a new bra in size bigger and get my 'fat' jeans out already, just so bloated! The only other symptom I have at the minute is my emotions, snappy one minute and in tears the next Blush
If everything stays reasonably normal then I'm hoping for a home birth this time too. Although I've only ever been to lovely home births, my worry is I'll go to one which doesn't go according to plan and it will put me off!

vix206 · 22/06/2013 07:34

Really sorry to hear your news moomin. Take care of yourself. hugs.

rueyrichardson · 22/06/2013 08:20

So sorry to hear your news Moomin. Big hugs to you.

I am thinking about things I won't do again this time round. Our DS was 11lbs at birth, 18 days late and I ended up having an EMCS after a delayed induction (the ward was v busy). He's a big boy now, wearing age 8 clothes at 4 yrs, so he probably always would have been a biggun but this time I will be a little more insistent not to let me go so overdue if there's a chance of a 3 month old coming out! It did make life quite easy when he was here - not as fragile as the average newborn, but keeping up with him (he was EBF) was all consuming! So I might think about sneaking some formula feeds in here and there this time round.
