Lovely name cycle really approve!

Rue will be thinking of you and hoping all goes well with minimal stay on the ward and home swiftly.

As nobody thinks I'm totally bonkers I've tucked baby's blanket up in bed with me for tonight. Rue we couldn't leave anything in dd's crib in NICU, but I carried her first babygro with me everywhere until she came home. Managed to find baby a cuddly today, almost spent an absolute fortune in M&P but remembered people may want to buy gifts and theres very few things we need.

Baking banana cake today and washing all the new baby fabric toys. Hqve decided to take tomorrow off work but send dd to nursery so I can tear through the house and organise. It is impossible to do anything at all with dd in tow!

ginauk84 · 14/05/2013 12:48

cyclecamper I love the name Nye, that's lovely, congrats on being home!

Good idea about the blanket etc, I might start to sleep with baby's comforter that way it smells of me.

Re: waters our MW said they would be clear with specs of white or red in. They could be lime green which means baby has been stressed and emptied it's bowels at some point in pregnancy or dark green which is bad news as it means baby is stressed there and then and has emptied it's bowels. She said it's very important to take note of the colour of waters and to wear a towel.

DontmindifIdo · 14/05/2013 13:21

Arlandria - that means the baby's head is 3/5th's engaged - so down and getting ready to go!

Right, I'm struggling, I just walked down to our local village area for a wax, then to the butchers and then home, about 3 miles in total - and my hip went on the way home - oh god I'm shattered! MIL is due here in half an hour to help me do some jobs, I just want to watch crap on TV and not entertain or do anything, if she's busying herself (she was going to clean our stairs with her carpet cleaner, I can't lug it up and down the stairs) I feel I should be doing something too, not just sat on the sofa feeling sorry for myself. Sad Hopefully half an hour will be enough of a rest (but the chocolate is in the kitchen, I really want some but not sure I can walk there! this is a crisis). Oh and my washing machine has died.

redwellybluewelly · 14/05/2013 13:43

Palpable doesn't equal engaged does it?

I was trying to figure this out last night and get extremely confused. 3/5ths engaged = 2/5ths palpable doesn't it?
And fully engaged means 5/5th engaged or 0/5th palpable? Need a midwife.

Reason I was trying to figure this out was because my consultant uses 'engaged' and MW uses 'palpable', I had MW yesterday and consultant a fortnight ago and was trying to work out from my notes if baby was getting more wedged in or less.

Not sure I'm any less confused now.

learnermummy · 14/05/2013 14:18

I think you're right red. Can't make head nor tail of my notes so no idea if baby engaged at all or not. From memory it doesn't make a lot of difference as to whether they're coming soon or not.

arlandria666 · 14/05/2013 14:34

I am in no hurry for baby anyway he can cook til he is ready for me i just didn't know what it meant that's all i would like to enjoy my time off before he comes anyway only my second day off :-)

redwellybluewelly · 14/05/2013 15:23

arlandria thats exactly why I was trying to figure it out too! I officially have two more weeks, finish on the 24th May and baby being delivered by ELCS first week of June as long as it behaves itself.

Toddler being surprisingly cooperative this afternoon so busy tidying and cleaning playroom. Just had three BH in a row so decided to have a sit down. Promptly.

learnermummy · 14/05/2013 15:37

If it helps i've just looked back through my notes from last time and baby was 3/5 palpable at 36 weeks, but didnt' arrive until 42+2! Hopefully that won't be the case for you arlandria.

SunnyL · 14/05/2013 16:15

I think there is clearly something to be said about going on maternity leave. My diplomacy when dealing with numpty colleagues has completely gone out of the window. i.e. those that send me shit rubbish and ask me to comment on it are getting rather more truthful replies than they normally do. Clearly they will realise not to ask me if they want a less than truthful answer. Maybe I'm not the only one counting down til Friday! Wink

Sunbeam18 · 14/05/2013 16:25

Today we decided to get a cleaner - joy beyond compare!!

arlandria666 · 14/05/2013 16:32

learnermummy if he wants to stay in that long he can lol i am getting worried about the whole giving birth thing anyway eeeeek!
Ideally would like some time off as i am using up annual leave before i start official maternity and if he comes early i will lose my holiday pay and money is a bit tight for us so it would make quite a difference to how i have planned finances out BUT i am sure when he is ready he will come without giving a second thought to my annual leave lol :-) as long as he is healthy i don't mind :-)

redwellybluewelly · 14/05/2013 16:35

sunbeam after tidying almost all day and nearly doing myself an injury I hadn't the energy to clean! Which led to me thinking long and hard about the need for a cleaner, even just 3 hours a week for three months.

DontmindifIdo · 14/05/2013 16:39

Sunbeam - yay! however, I need to get over my angst about being in the house at the same time - normally she's come when I've been at work, so now I have to find things to do on her normal visit times...

Arlandria - surely if you have holiday leave left over at the end of the 'holiday year' (ours is Jan - Jan, but I know a lot of companies are Apr - Apr) you'll be paid out for the days you've not used? So you'll lose the time but not the money, might be worth checking the situation with your payroll department. (I'm off early because I decided I wanted the time more htan the money - I officially start mat leave next week, although I've already been off for a couple of weeks)

DontmindifIdo · 14/05/2013 16:41

Oh and redwelly, we're keeping ours 3 hours a week until August, then I can't afford it to be weekly so it's dropping to fortnightly, I fear our house will get a lot messier with crusty stairs (I don't do hoovering stairs, I know I should but I hate it) from September onwards...

learnermummy · 14/05/2013 16:42

I would love a cleaner and have had one in the past, but just get very stressed about having to have the whole house tidy the night before! Silly really.

AlohaMama · 14/05/2013 17:02

Can I have one please?? I always said to dh that whenever I got pregnant we'd get a cleaner, but at that point we hadn't banked on living in one of the most expensive places ever. Oh well, maybe one day. Meanwhile I'd like to drop hints to dh that cleaning is getting quite difficult for me, but his 'to do' list for getting the house ready to sell is long enough, I think I'd rather have him do that.

Pinkbear - sorry I hadn't realised you weren't going to get to see dp at all. In which case I guess snail mail is your only option. Good luck choosing a name.

Had the freakiest pregnancy dream this morning. I dreamt I was at work showing people how I could feel all the toes inside my bump (which I can't by the way) when I started feeling something on my shoulder. Looked down and the baby had pushed her hand out of a hole in my shoulder. Went to the doctors, freaking out about who was going to look after ds now that dh is away on work, but they said not to worry i just had to keep pushing her hand back inside and she'd be fine Hmm.

Steffanoid · 14/05/2013 17:10

aloha thats one weird dream!

pink do they not have ny internet privileges where you could name discuss via email? it is crap they wouldn't transfer him closer considering your situation, do you know anyone on the way to that prison so you could stay there and keep costs right down?

im quite lucky on the cleaning front, it's only me and dp and the dog at the moment and dp is really good at doing the cleaning, just asks what needs doing, as I said a few days ago my dmum is not letting me do.anything and neither is he, he even did a tub of grated cheese for my sandwiches at lunch in the fridge cause I can't grip things properly with my hands and it took me a stupidly long time to cut cheese a few days ago

learnermummy · 14/05/2013 17:21

Ahh Steff what a thoughtful OH you have Smile.

MrsBri · 14/05/2013 18:04

Sunny, I got like that just before leaving, especially as I wasn't in the office to see the people I was emailing. I hate stupid questions!

I couldn't cope with a cleaner as I'd have to clean before they came! I now do one task a day instead of it all at once like I was doing pre-leave.

Steff, my DH does that kind of thing for me :-) Aren't they lovely? Are your fingers just swollen or is it something else? Sorry if you've already said, my memory is crap :-/

Had only my second nap of the pregnancy today. Felt shit when I woke up, reminding me why I usually battle through! Only just woke in time to call a client at 4.30, as arranged. Oops!

Aloha, you win the prize for the weirdest preggo dream yet. Bit trippy that one!

pinkbear82 · 14/05/2013 18:11

I stupidly quite enjoy cleaning - and the good thing is now I can't do it to obbsessive levels so it's a good learning curve for me! mind you only me to yell at now if I find something out of place.... and the dog for muddy footprints. lol

it's hard with dp, he managed to call today for 2 mins which then led to an emotional teary time in m&s getting my salad. have been very teary ever since. the one thing I'm struggling with him not being around are the first photos in hospital, no idea why but that breaks me every time I think about it.
Still everyday that passes is a day closer to him coming home. And there are far worse off people out there, I just have to stay strong and make the most of it.

ginauk84 · 14/05/2013 18:38

Re: annual leave do they not carry it over for you? Our year runs from
April-March, am taking 5 days leave then start ML on 17th June which will last till 17th June next year. Then am tagging on the annual leave left from this financial year onto the end of my maternity - could you not do that?

Pink it must be hard for you can't imagine how you feel but I guess it won't be for long in the great scheme of things - just bad timing!

I don't really mind cleaning either, have thought about a cleaner but I don't think I could trust a stranger in my house?

Steffanoid · 14/05/2013 18:46

Mrs bri- called triage last week and they said something about carpal tunnel and to go the docs, however my docs is a waste of space, see consultant and growth scan in the morning so will ask then, they go a bit tingly and I cant curl them properly :s couldn't open a bottle of pop earlier

dp is being very good, told him I felt like shit in my head ( I have depression) so he took me to pick a magazine and get chocolate Grin

pink at least you're gonna be able to get pictures and send them to him - not tge same I know but it's something, and you're just gonna have to have more babies that hes there for the pics and threaten to hurt him if he's not there next time

arlandria666 · 14/05/2013 21:16

steffanoid my hands and wrists have been terrible too i can't open a bottle of pop or even carry a really light bag without pain and uncomfort :-( i have been given splints to sleep in but they haven't really helped i just hope it goes once baby is here! At the moment i don't even dare have a bath without dh being in the house cos worried i wouldn't be able to push myself up hope you get some relief or answers tomorrow x

DontmindifIdo · 14/05/2013 21:26

ginauk84 - check with your HR, as I understand it, they have to honour all the holiday you've acrued during your maternity leave, but that means you can be paid out for it rather than actually have the time added onto next year's annual leave (if you see what I mean) - my company gave me a choice last time because with DS I was due back in December (and our holiday year was Jan to Jan) - a 13th month off and be paid for it, or come back after 12 months with an extra month's pay in my January pay.

However, this time, I would either get to use the time for Jan 2013 to Jan 2014 before i went off, or I'd get paid any holiday I hadn't used for that holiday year at Jan 2014 payroll, but at the end of my mat leave in May 14 I could tag on the holiday I'd acrued from Jan 14 to May 14 - an any of the rest of my Jan14-Jan15 holiday leave I want to (but that would mean I have no more holidays for the rest of that year).

This is the legal minimum they have to do, I think most companies are more flexible so it's worth checking but up until a week after I stopped working we had a right cow in HR who was made redundant the week I left, rather glad i won't have to deal with her if/when I return

Steffanoid · 14/05/2013 22:36

arlandria it's crap isn't it, feel like a proper invalid, I've gone absolutely huge as well, baby is way above the 90%ile and my hips are bad with pgp so have been dead bad at being able to get up anyway, couldn't figure how to get out of the bath a few weeks ago, got myself on all fours and nearly gave up haha, got stuck.on the floor on my back last week after retrieving a rogue dog toy keep managing to get myself into silly situations maybe thats why mum and dp know to tell me not to do anything
