Hello all - just lurking for advice. My exDh is about to have a baby with new wife. Our dcs are very excited (I am too - I love babies!). Our relationship has ups and downs but I want to do something nice but not too intimate or freak them out if you know what I mean. Should I get a gift from the dcs to the new baby? My exDh has asked if I can take the dcs over to see the baby when it arrives. I would love to give it a cuddle but suspect I might have to sit on my hands in the car so I don't freak out his new wife by grabbing gorgeous new born it might be too much for them. Should we take a home cooked meal over when we visit? Advice please - we really want to welcome new baby in a nice way.

DontmindifIdo · 23/05/2013 08:19

Fragglewump - I think taking your DCs to pick a gift for their new sibling would be lovely, do it in advance, maybe this weekend, although check with your ExH that he doesn't want to do that on his next access visit. Then when you take them over, stand back, this is an important bit of your DCs bonding with their new sibling and seeing that DC as their brother or sister, so while you might want a cuddle, the priority will be their new family dynamic.

I wouldn't take a home cooked meal without asking first if they would like you too, although cake is always welcome!

MrsBri · 23/05/2013 08:26

Bloody hell, Maisie, I hope you find some way to entertain yourself today!

Good luck later on. :-)

forgetmenots · 23/05/2013 08:44

You sound lovely fragglewump, that's so thoughtful.

I agree with dontmind. Maybe a card and a small token from you as well would show your good wishes? (Literally mean a sleep suit or similar!)
I'm sure though if you have a good relationship with ex they will know you're happy for them.

arlandria666 · 23/05/2013 09:09

masie i had to ring at 7.30 they told me they would ring back at 9 so i am sat watching the clock! I had very little sleep and terrible dreams! One i had a litter of babies! And one the midwife said she was going to have to tear me and literally ripped my skin away from my body!! It was so realistic lol! I will let you all know when i am on my way which will probably be this afternoon at this rate lol

Can I strongly recommend avoiding getting a sickness and vomiting bug when 37 weeks pregnant? The last 24 hours have been horrific. Not only the normal horror that is sitting with a bucket on the loo but the worry of the baby not getting enough to eat and drink, and knowing it must have really upset her as she was shaking and going mad while I was sick. And then afterwards she was kicking stomach making it all happen again.

Honestly don't think I've ever felt that rough. It's passing now, thank god, otherwise would be off to hospital for a drip. Was wondering what would happen if labour started as I would be far too weak and depleted to deal with it. Thank goodness that didn't happen!

good luck ladies going in today, I can't imagine how you're feeling every day I wake up checking tge baby is still there and checking the bed!

Sarah lots of rest for you today, I'll defo avoid people and catching sickness bugs!

MrsBri · 23/05/2013 10:48

Sarah, I'm glad you're on the mend now. Typical that the onset of labour can also be marked with sickness and diarrhoea. Hopefully you won't get that though.

Steff, I've put absorbent pads on the bed today just in case my waters go. I decided a double layer was best! 36 weeks today.

arlandria666 · 23/05/2013 11:00

The hospital rang i am on the way in eeeeek!

MrsBri · 23/05/2013 11:02

Good luck!! :-)

forgetmenots · 23/05/2013 11:04

So jealous and so excited for you arlandria!!

MrsBri we're exactly a week apart and I put my pads on the bed last week :-)

MrsBri · 23/05/2013 11:09

I'm following in your shadow, Forget! :-)

Going to get on my Swiss ball shortly and have a little bounce to try to encourage engagement! Joy.

forgetmenots · 23/05/2013 11:37

Haha I'm on mine now! Think the way this is going I could be behind you! :)

MrsBri · 23/05/2013 11:41

And I'm now on mine :-)

I really want to be early! See how obedient baby is. Not very, I imagine.

DontmindifIdo · 23/05/2013 11:47

arlandria - good luck!!

Just got back from the hospital having had a growth scan, she said she was happy with baby's sizes, is about 6lb7oz now, so should tip 7lb in another fortnight, so nothing to worry about there. Annoyingly, they still can't tell if it's a boy or girl! I think I'm supposed to not know. She did say the baby has a short cord, but apparently that's only an issue in natural labour, so as I'm booked for a c section they aren't going to be fussed in the slightest.

rrreow · 23/05/2013 11:48

Sarah oh no that's awful! I had a stomach virus/food poisoning a few months ago and it was horrible. It was so painful I actually thought I was in early labour. Remember the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple, toast). I also found sipping a sports drink was OKish once I felt a little bit better. Hope you recover soon.

I got some of those Tena absorbent bed pads. Hoping that will do the trick. Although I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my waters won't break until during labour as I've heard it can be more painful once the waters have broken (it definitely was more painful after they broke them in my first labour).

Also DH has just ordered plastic sheeting in preparation for the homebirth. I dunno, how messy is it actually going to be? I don't particularly remember it being that messy last time, but then again I was in hospital and wasn't concerned about their decor Grin

learnermummy · 23/05/2013 12:08

Good luck arlandria!

Sarah that sounds horrific, hope you have someone to look after you.

Rrreow I still need to get some plastic sheeting. I had last one at home and think most mess was in the pool which DH had to clean out! For when I wasn't in the pool I had a double duvet covered in a waterproof cover and then old duvet cover - I could then drape that wherever I wanted to sit/lie. The duvet cover was probably binned afterwards. Midwives bring a lot of absorbent pads that are then binned too. You won't need to worry about mess though - you'll be tucked up in bed with baby Smile.

Steffanoid · 23/05/2013 12:12

dontmind I think it's fab that your lo is being evasive! so cheekySmile

am feeling nauseous today, taking all these little things as good signs, I dont think dp has ever been so excited, it's really lovely, he struggles to express himself sometimes and can be quite introverted but I think he's blooming more than me! think its reassuring my mum a bit that we'll be ok, think she was worried about our ages a little, im 25 and he's 26 but we've been together 7 years, lived together for 6, own our own house and both have stable jobs, im her youngest so I dont think.she's ever seen me as an adult, she'll be reassured soon Smile

AmIGoingMad · 23/05/2013 14:08

Sarah- I hope you're feeling better now? That sounds awful! And the last thing you need with the other joys of the last few weeks that have to be dealt with!

Thanks for the feedback on the mattress protector. I'll put it on this wkend.

Wonder how arlandria and Maisie are doing. Exciting times!

I've got the ball out but haven't sat on it much yet- another thing I keep meaning to do but keep forgetting.

Stef I definitely think its safe to say that pretty soon your mum will have no choice but to think of you as an adult!

Olimoss · 23/05/2013 14:38

Good luck to all birthing babies!

Sarah - that's very boo, sounds sucky. Hope you feel better soon....

arlandria666 · 23/05/2013 15:42

Nothing to report! Had the propess at 12.45 got put on a ward got my own room been for a walk around the hospital grounds just waiting waiting waiting lol

rrreow · 23/05/2013 16:23

Nice that they gave you a room! Any twinges yet?

cyclecamper · 23/05/2013 17:13

Good luck to those with very imminent babies!

Quick update: I have a room again at the hospital and they have moved babycycle onto demand feeding. He hasn't quite got the hang of it - he seems to think that he can feed, refuse to be put down for 2 hours by rooting and then crash for 4 hours! He blankly refused to settle after the 1.30 feed until the nurse got fed up and banished him to my room Grin. I'm now waiting for the occasional noises to be something I can construe as being awake so that I can feed him again. He's not really got the idea.

pinkapples · 23/05/2013 18:49

Can't wait for news from all these babies being born! Mummies soon!

AlohaMama · 23/05/2013 18:54

Sarah, poor you that sounds hideous. As if just being heavily pregnant isn't bad enough!!

Cycle, great to hear you've got a room back with baby. Hope the feeding get's better, he'll get the hang of it eventually!!

And hope all is going well with maisie and arlandria and massage girl. Anyone else??

Finally got a round bump instead of a strange pointy one. But feeliing quite breathless now which is a bit annoying.
