mabel1973 · 04/06/2006 10:27

Hi - what fantastic weather! burnt my bump yesterday!!
Compo - I think you do need to see a GP - I know when I had painkillers and iron tablets last time they were prescribed by my GP.

Well neighbour came round and apologised last night - made me feel a bit better anyway! The funny thing is I think her DH must be really embarassed as every time either of us has seem him since he's scurried off in to the house!
I tried on a maternity sun dress this morning that I had from last time and it doesn't fit - what's annoying is I haven't really put on any weight anywhere other than my bump, and it isn't my bump that deosn't fit in - it's my boobs, which I can't do anything about. So had a minor strop this morning about how I had nothing to wear and was sick of being fat!

mandaz · 04/06/2006 12:01

Compo - my midwife gave me a prescription for Gaviscon when I went to the clinic for a check up. It's a huge bottle of the liquid type, it should last forever! I find that a glass of milk sometimes helps if it's not too bad.

Homemamma - I'm afraid I'll have to stick to the granny knickers. I was plus size before I got pg and there's no way I'll fit into the paper ones Blush Are maternity pads and sanitary pads the same thing? Could I take my usual ST's instead or are the maternity ones more absorbant?

Thanks for all the advice on the hospital bag. I'm going to buy a nice girly holdall for myself and a changing bag to put LO's bits in, that way I can use both once LO has arrived.

I had to laugh when I went into town with my friend and her daughter the other day. Whereas before our shopping trips consisted of clothes, sports and music shops and then the pub for lunch, they now consist of Early Learning Centre, Next, Mothercare, the bakery then home! I'm not complaining though, I love baby shopping! Grin

mabel1973 · 04/06/2006 17:12

Mandaz - you will need maternity pads, not ordinary ones!!! They are like bricks - but that is what you need, and buy at least 3 or 4 packs.

homemama · 04/06/2006 19:20

Mandaz, I'm afraid I agree with Mabel. You really do need the big brick like maternity pads. I took some but not enough. I then thought I could get away with the 'always' night time sanitary pads but the 'dry weave top sheet' thingy isn't cotton and gave me terrible chafing as I was mildly incontinent for about 5days. My MW said she was constantly seeing women who thought they (the pads) were better and who soon realised the opposite.

I also agree with buying quite a few packs. My lochia dried to a near trickle after 1wk then came back with a vengence for another 3wks so you never know. Also you will probably go through an entire packet in the 1st day. I needed to change the first two after about 10mins each. Blush

Mabel, very few of my lovely, stylish maternity clothes from last time fit this time around. Sad I wish I could blame my boobs (although they are huge) but it's more likely the fact that whilst last time I craved fresh fruit and salad, this time it's cake and crisps! Grin On Friday I ate an entire packet of flake cakes (6) whilst DS napped! Blush Blush Blush It's no wonder strangers think I'm due and make comments like, 'almost there, love!'

appyday · 04/06/2006 22:13

My DH suffers with acid indigestion, and recently started having a tsp of vinegar every time he gets it. He says for a moment it is awful but it cures it immediately, don't know how this can possibly work but it does.
Hope you all had beautiful weather this weekend. I spent an hour pumping up a ball pit and paddling pool this morning - bad enough at this size, but then DD wanted me to climb in the pit AND sit down(stand up sit down lie down go through the tunnel). Her one concession to my pregnancy is standing on the sofa for a cuddle instead of insisting on being picked up!
Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy/birth book for toddlers, DD is obsessed with my books, esp the pictures of babies in the process of coming out, and I'm concerned these are a little graphic. Although I must say she has more problems with the fact that I had a cut in my tummy for her to come out, she's got issues with scars since she had chicken pox.

Marls001 · 05/06/2006 01:34

Hi all -

Anyone with acid reflux, look into Nexium; it's one of the safe drugs for pg women & has been a lifesaver for me!

Mabel - Even flirting with idea of a breast reduction, maybe, once I've lost the baby weight. Maybe. Was 32C (now 32D+, Angry); think 32B would be much better.

Here's where I got "viable at 7 months" - knew it had to be from somewhere! Smile "From Conception To Birth: A Life Unfolds" (Alexander Tsiaras, 2002) is a book DH and I have loved; many full-color pictures of babies in the womb at all stages and descriptions of each stage, have used them to show DS "the baby" too.

The page marked "7 months" says, "... at this stage the brain has advanced sufficiently to control rhythmic breathing, coordinated contractions in the digestive tract, and body temperature - 3 major thresholds for living outside the womb. With the lungs now equipped with sufficient air sacs and surrounding blood vessels to allow the baby to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide, chances for survival outside the mother markedly improve."

HellKat · 05/06/2006 05:34

Morning all.
Glad you're all doing well.
I've been enjoying the sun & with the gorgeous weather, it's given me a new incentive to get stuff done. Spent the last few days sorting out ds2's baby clothes, getting them washed, ironed & popped into the airing cupboard. Now I'm excited Grin
I agree with everyone regarding the bumper packs of pads (alot of places do their own brands far cheaper). My lochia, last time around, finished in just over a week. But then I had my first af which was horrendous (was warned my endo would get alot worse). Thank goodness for huge pads! Also found the other day 2 pairs of disposable undies in my drawer so saves me on washing Grin.
Have a great day all.

Bella23 · 05/06/2006 09:17

Morning ladies

Was off last week as had my parents down and have been mega busy.
I will have a proper catch up - it seems there is lots of talk of big nickers and sanitary towels..........oh joy!!Grin
Hope everyone is well and will post again once I have read xx

Coriander73 · 05/06/2006 09:40

Morning pop pickers!

Ha, maternity sanitary towels! They remind me of those simplicity ones we had when we were 11/12 years old..anyone rememnber?!!!

Was very tearful this morning as my sciatica was bad all night. DD came into bed this morning & I couldn't stop blubbing at which point she just came up to me, gave me a hug & wouldn't leave my side until I'd cheered up.....isn't that instinctive for one so young? Am off to the ostepath again later.....

Morning mum to bes Smile.

Did you miss me? bet you didn't notice i wasn't posting lol.

Gosh looks like I have missed loads of posts so please excuse me if I miss anything as I am going to have a quick scan through them.

Happy Birthday for last friday cori

I am jealous of the handbag and shoe shopping, I get the look from DH when browsing through the next catalogue. I also have been told off already for buying too any baby clothes, I have not even bought that much lol.

Mabel I am with you all I want to do is wear non maternity clothes now, keep walking past shops seeing lovely outfit that I can't even consider. Congratulations on the birth of your niece Grin

Cori I loved inxs used to pinch my brothers album to listen to them. I hope your sciatica eases Smile

Been busy here, painted all the fence at the front on thurs Boy did i pay for sitting on the pavement for long periods. seperated the back garden into two one for
dogs and one for the children, painted the garden furniture went through all the cupboards downstairs and the playroom etc kitchen should be completed by next weekend then its ds room next followed by the shower room. lots and lots to do.

Can anybody tell me what spd is like? did not have it with ds, my symptoms are that when I get up after periods of sitting down or lying and I get up between my legs (feels like pelvis floor) are painful but eases the more I walk, bit like arthritis iykwim. I did mention it to my midwife a coupe of weeks ago and she is going to assess me next time I see her.

I agree with about the maternity towels and cotton knickers they are a must ,large sanitary towels are not good enough and uncomfortable. I lost for approx one week.

Smile 25 weeks yesterday Smile - where has the time gone?

I am wondering how benjaminsmum is she has not posted for a long long time nor has kreamkrackers.

Just a quick non pregnancy related question, does anybody know if its legal to leave a 15year old home alone for a week. people who live opposite from us did last week and on fri night their house was full of teens, apparently damage and theft have occur, I have been talking with the police this am to say what dh and I witness.

liquidclocks · 05/06/2006 14:24

Afternoon everybody! I finally have the house back to normal again, MIL and FIL left yesterday lucnch time and back to work this morning. Must say, after week of 'hostessing' and previous week in hospital with DS, now I feel like I need a REAL holiday :)

Mandaz - my most essential items in hospital were loads of old fashioned 'thick type' sanitary towels (couldn't find maternity pads with wings), FOOD - snacks, crisps, flapjacks... as hospital food portions just weren't generous enough, at least 3 nighties as inevitably you'll bleed on them Blush and I also got DH to go buy some newborn dummies. I think that because I couldn't breastfeed DS wasn't getting enough 'sucking time' which babies find so comforting and the dummy really soothed him. Also very helpful is a close friend who'll sit with baby for a couple of hours in the afternoon after lunch so you can have a sleep :) (and they can go shopping for the things you forget!)

Re telling toodlers about why your tummy is so big, a friend showed me this gorgeous book the other day called 'there's a house inside my mummy' - adorable!

Cori - lots of sympathy for you with sciatica. Did too much gardening with FIL last week and have it too now but is bearable. Hope visit to osteopath helpful :)

TopBanana · 05/06/2006 16:10

Hi guys,

Mmmmm maternity pads, what a lovely thought!!! I'm sure the hospital gave me loads last time but can't really remember! Last time I hardly took anything with me, even forgot my toothbrush, but I was packing my bag when I was 5cm dilated because I left it too late Grin

Puppy, I don't think its illegal to leave a 15 year old home alone but evidently its not a good idea!
Cori, I hope your sciatica gets better but ahhhh bless your dd Smile
Lysettes have you had a driving lesson yet?

Well, I've still got my broken rib which bloody hurts! And I feel the size of a house!
Went to pick dd up earlier and they've banned me from the nursery because a child was sent home with german measles this morning Shock I don't think its dangerous at this stage of pregnancy though.
Been enjoying the lovely weather and getting loads of practice driving my little car! I love it Smile

puppy · 05/06/2006 16:21

I didn't think it was illegal top just thought I would check, I def know its not a good idea I am surprised they did tbh. It only takes one person to find out that the teen is home alone then all hell breaks out.

Sorry to hear you have a rib broken top I hope it heals soon.

Coriander73 · 05/06/2006 16:29

Hi,

Back from Osteopath. She said I need to use ice when it's feeling bad & sleep again with pillow under between legs lifting right leg right up......say's it want get better until baby is out...great!!! She gave me a right going over & I feel quite worn out sitting here now.

I finish work in two months! Doesn't actually seem that long away. Went to order a bed for DD today but JL has sold out so am waiting for them to let me know when they're in stock. I do hope DD will settle in her new room once we move her over...am so aware that there are going to be huge changes for her & I just hope we're going about it the right way.......she seems so grown up all of a sudden & yet she's still my baby!!! :)

mabel1973 · 05/06/2006 17:51

cori - my sciatica is just starting again. I'd be interested to know wherther you physio gave you any excercises to do? I did visit a physio last time, but she couldn't really do alot and I just ended up taking co-codamol.

Coriander73 · 05/06/2006 19:18

Hi Mabel,

All she said was I really should try & swim as much as I can...walk as well. Obviously easier said than done. I have managed to swim a couple of times in the past two weeks which isn't enough really especially if this is going to hamper me for the next three months so perhaps when on maternity leave it'll be easier i.e more time etc......I do try & get up more around the office but it's easy to forget.....just makes me that bit more determined to get myself fit again & try & sustain it once the pg is over!

mabel1973 · 06/06/2006 11:31

Hi Cori

My midwife has been round this morning. She is referring me for accupuncture for my sciatica. I am not sure how long it will take to see someone, but it makes a pleasant chnage from just being offered painkillers!
I really need to try and get swimming, as much for DS as for me, we haven't been for ages.
I do walk a lot and try and do about 5 or 6 miles a week - but it is getting increasingly difficult!
Just wondered how other people got on with their midwives? Last time mine was a star, even though she didn't have children of her own, she was fantastic. This time I find mine really hard to biuld up a relationship with, she seems quite cold and stand offish.

Coriander73 · 06/06/2006 13:00

Hi Mabel,

I'm in a lot of pain this morning. Didn't sleep well after 3am...just couldn't get comfy as felt the pain in my bum & leg all night. Spoke to my midwife also & she said she's going to refer me to the hospital physio to see if there is anything else that can be done. She also said that I shouldn't sit in a swivel chair at work!

Re midwives....I had the most amazing woman last time, who like you, didn't have children of her own but was just wonderful. We built up a fantastic report & I have to say I was so upset when our relationship had to come to an end so to speak....well that's not strictly true as we have kept in contact & text now & again etc but I haven't seen her since DD was 1 (DD's middle name is after midwife...)& in a funny way I'm missing her a lot this time around. I do have a nice enough midwife this time (couldn't have the same one as since moved into different area, so whilst still at the same hospital, my old midwife doesn't cover my area)but we've haven't really clicked & she's not as funny!!!

Hi everyone. Sorry to hear about sciatica, broken ribs and other aches and pains. Hope the warm weather is cheering everyone up. I was wondering too about Kreamkrackers as she usually posts regualrly. Hope everyone is just busy and things are okay.
We've just moved ds into a single bed this weekend. So far so good and he has gone down for his afternoon nap fine today. he hasn't tried to get out yet but I'm sure he'll figure it out soon enough!! he looks so small in the bed though....

homemama · 06/06/2006 13:35

Hi everyone!
Puppy, sorry we didn't notice you were missing. I think everyone is so wrapped up in their aches and pains. Smile Yes, there are a few of us who haven't posted for a while. Hope everything is ok for them.

I'm getting a little nervous as my re-scan is coming up. I'm still trying to stay positive and not focus on the worse case senario but we know we must be realistic.

TopBanana, they test your rubella status with your booking bloods and your mw would have told you were no longer immune. Also, conincidently, I was talking to a women yesterday who caught german measles when she was 8mths pg and she said that neither her mw nor her Dr were that concerned and told her the danger time was 1st trimester but maybe up to 15wks. Smile

Does anyone know how long the weather will last? I was thinking of planning a picnic later in the week.

Coriander73 · 06/06/2006 14:07

Compo, I'm interested to know if your DS is in a Grobag or duvet? Also is new bed in new room or still in old room?

OP posts:
clairemow · 06/06/2006 14:22

Hello, new to this thread (I think - have lost track of slight addiction to MN...). Also due in September (5th), and beginning to feel like a whale. Think it is true that you get bigger quicker with no. 2.

I haven't read that much of the thread back, but saw Compo's post about moving DS (2 at end of May) into a single bed. We did the same a couple of months ago, and it's brilliant now. The first couple of nights at home were fine, he didn't try to get out, but then we went away for the weekend, and all hell broke loose! We had to buy a travel stairgate and now it lives in the car for going away, as he does try to escape often the first night in a different place. It got to the point where we spent 1 1/2 hours putting him back in over and over again - and then when we got home we did some "controlled" (he didn't sound too controlled to me..?!) crying, and since then it's been fine, and he seems to understand now. Sorry, long tale, but worth all the hassle in the end...

homemama · 06/06/2006 14:30

Yes, I'm worried about moving DS into a bed with his grobag. I think if he was just under a duvet he'd be less likely to hurt himself if he fell. The trouble is he finds it very difficult to sleep without his grobag.
Interested to hear if others on here have done the transfer to bed with a grobag.

clairemow · 06/06/2006 14:33

We took the grobag off and he's only fallen out twice - both times he didn't cry, and we found him asleep on the floor later on. Bed is quite low though. I would worry about him falling over if he got out in a grobag? DS was also v. attached to his grobag, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Now he's attached to the duvet. We made a great big fuss about the "Big Boy' Bed", so i think he feels all grown up.

clairemow · 06/06/2006 14:34

Maybe you could cut the bottom of the grobag open so he didn't fall if he got out?
