If I'm not wrong, anterior placenta is fine as long as its not low lying? Does that also mean you might feel baby a bit less?

Bad guider - thanks for sharing info. I have orthotic insoles for my shoes anyway but end up wearing old lady shoes or boots most of the time, so it's trousers only. Was so hot this week I had to wear a skirt for work and got out my Birkenstocks which definitely work well although rubbed slightly as I've never worn them in properly!

I folded a cardi up to go behind my back in the car today on your advice and it definitely seemed more comfortable (was a 2.5h journey!)

Just SMP for me, although I was working for the council last time around and got extra and saved that money up so still have enough to 'pay' myself my normal (2/5s...) salary, so not too bad. Thankfully DD gets her free 15h child care from January, so that will help!

CharlW1 · 03/05/2013 17:34

frog it just means your placenta is at the front so you won't feel baby as much.

frogchops · 03/05/2013 17:55

Oh, ok thanks! Will it move or is it there for good?

CharlW1 · 03/05/2013 18:05

It will move up as your bump grows butility it will stay at the front.

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 03/05/2013 18:21

My fit flops were amazing in my last pregnancy as I started to get heel pain so I'm wearing them rather than be barefoot in the house. I think a lot is about varying heel heights too so I have some (sensible) heels for work but don't wear them consecutive days. The fit flops were great support.

EmmaDee · 03/05/2013 18:22

Hi all great scan news everyone, am I the only one left? Mines next Friday afternoon, feels like an age away!!

Has anyone else been getting pains in their bump, well more like on it? Last night it felt like I'd pulled some muscles or something, then this morning it was ok, but it'd coming back again now, is this normal?

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 03/05/2013 18:23

I had my scan today and all is great! The placenta is at the front which explains the lack of movement. The downer is that the sonographer wrote in my notes that the visibility was poor due to high maternal BMI but it's all true, just makes me feel guilty. Baby seems spot on though so I just need to stay nice and healthy now. Went to pregnancy yoga this morning which I'm going to make a regular event.

Kittenkatzen · 03/05/2013 18:51

Evening ladies, congrats on all the good scan news! Interesting to hear about the anterior placentas corresponding with people not feeling too much movement - I'm feeling loads of movement, and the sonographer on Tuesday did say that my placenta was against the back wall so I guess that must make a big difference then.

Interesting stuff from the physio class, not sure what the other people on the train would think if I started stuffing a towel behind my back for my 90min commute though.....that said, I've seen stranger..! So are birkies good or bad, I'm a bit confused - they have moulded footbeds but does that count as arch support? Please say good, I live in my birkies in summer!

emma I've had the pulled muscle pain across my bump too, especially if I stand for too long. I've assumed it's maybe the muscles starting to separate?

Is anyone else getting odd reactions from non-pg friends/colleagues about their decision to drink/not drink alcohol whilst pregnant? I'm in the not drinking at all camp, and have had some very strange sideways looks and kind of eye-rolly oh she's being a martyr type vibes from people who have asked. I'm always perfectly polite and just say "no thank you I'm not drinking at the moment", and if pressed explain that I just don't really miss it so I'm quite happy to not drink (completely true btw, I have no negative opinion at all towards ladies who do have the occasional drink, it's just a personal choice). I guess I just think it's a bit weird that other people care either way really Confused Anyone else had similar experiences from either side?

JammyTummy · 03/05/2013 19:04

Kitten I think that it is so not anybody's business, particularly as you aren't pushing your opinion on anybody! I still have the occasional glass of wine/ fizz but it would never occur to me to get judgy with anybody else! I really don't know what it is pregnant women that gives people the impression that they can get all up close and personal! Make your own!

Sorry... End of rant Hmm

OP posts:
Kittenkatzen · 03/05/2013 21:55

Well exactly jammy, why do they even care?! It's so weird Confused

fl0b0t · 03/05/2013 22:27

Bit behind.sorry!
derpress sounds like spd?
Re: shoes... I get so stressed when people don't wear proper shoes! Ballet pumps etc are so unsupportive. I'm in my granny walking sandals and blissfully comfy :)

Scan yesterday went great (bar grumpy sonographer!). All well but baby has a big head, big tummy, short legs! Mum and dad are tall and slim! Doh!

Baby is moving so so much. Was head down at the scan and about 11pm it decided to turn 90 degrees so it was lateral across my tummy and Kick for 15mins, then squirmed 180 degrees and kicked my other side. Today my bump shape changed and freaked me out, there was a hard small round lump.above my belly button for about half an hour. In the bath now and actually saw some kicks! I'm only 20 +3 today!

Love the kicks but its Making me v nauseous and uncomfy already! Anyone getting serious wriggling and bump shape changes and weird stuff? :s

fl0b0t · 03/05/2013 22:30

Ps wish I hadn't mentioned mat pay, I'm feeling jealous of you lot with more than smp and jealousy is unlike me!

mantra I love my job

flipflump · 03/05/2013 22:34

I've had this too!! It's not up to anyone else what you do and don't choose to do. I haven't had a drop and like you say, don't miss it. Why should I then force a drink down? My (childless) SIL told me a little alcohol was good for you during pregnancy. I asked for the medical papers on that one!!!! I've also had to use the excuse of booze giving me heartburn just now. Why should we even need an excuse?! I know DH would be disappointed if I did have a drink ( really don't want one) and its his baby too, do his opinion would count.

kimjayne · 03/05/2013 23:18

I know.what u mean about the unwanted opinions and dissapriving looks re drinks etc! I went to an awards party this week with work. I decided to wear my pumps to and from the venue but I slipped on my (reduced) Kurt Geiger heels for during the event. My boss actually called me 'Amanda Holden' Coz of my decision to wear heels. But I'm only 5,4 in height so felt stupid in flats.

CharlW1 · 04/05/2013 00:02

I know what you mean about the drinking but then I think when you're pregnant everyone feels they have a right to express their opinion on all sorts of subjects - without any thought on how it makes you feel - from drinking to non drinking, to exercise or not, to what food you eat and how much, what shoes you buy or even how you feel in general.
I went home from work on Monday as I felt exhausted and had the return of nausea - cue my boss gave birth to her son 20 years a go so obviously knows everything about pregnancy saying that it was highly unusual that I was feeling ill at this stage when I had felt well the last few weeks. Obviously I know from you guys that symptoms come and go and it's nothing to worry about. I wouldn't have been so bothered but I haven't had 1 day off work yet and when I did go home on Monday - after a lie down, I carried on working again!

Feel better for that rant now Blush

frogchops · 04/05/2013 05:12

Oh charl that actually made me mad!! I had one day off in feb with sheer knackeredness after not sleeping due to heartburn. I was told that 'you just don't get heartburn' until the third trimester and to take more responsibility for what I eat! I've had it everyday since but now I know what triggers it and can sleep. Was just unexpected so early at 8 weeks! I've even been told that my sickness record (I had another week off in match due to actually not being able to walk no less!!) is not going to look good if I have even one more day off in this pregnancy so j should probably use holiday if I'm Ill. Grrrrr.

Readytosettle · 04/05/2013 06:05

Good to hear the scan went well Fl0
. Am impressed that u can tell exactly what the baby is up to already! I'm feeling lots of movement & when I get the hard kicks I know where it's feet are but I tend to always feel them in the same sort of place (maybe less blubber there?). Maybe I'll get more of an idea what's going on when I see the scan....wait is nearly over as it's on weds!

Re: drinking, I mostly get disapproval/eye rolling because of my decision to drink (a lot of my friends were t-total for there pg's). But I'm very aware of units so mostly just stick to 1 drink & DH has always been very 'pro' me having a drink- i figure it's his baby too.... Only one person was rude enough to come straight out & ask me why I would do anything that might put my baby at risk! My response: this is just one of many risks I'm taking every day, along with flying, driving, crossing the road etc. but they're all calculated risks & as a parent you will always find something to feel guilty about as u strive for a perfection that is not possible. One of my colleagues has an 18 yr old said, 'well you're right about that, I feel guilty every day for something'. That seemed to shut her up! As ever, it seems that no matter what decision u make in pregnancy someone, somewhere will disagree....and then feel the need to inform u!

Dorita75 · 04/05/2013 06:40

frogchops Your work have made me so mad! How dare they, bloody cheek. And people who think they're experts because they've had children, everyone is different so less of the stupid comments from them would be good!

My hormones are making me really feisty, before I've even finished a thought the words are out there....whether it's someone jumping a queue, walking 'in my way' or just poor DP & family getting sarcastic or narky responses to things, that's when it's not tears...... It's nuts!

Still no movement here so can't comment on that, the odd bubble when I think 'was that one?' Can't wait for it to start Smile

frogchops · 04/05/2013 07:32

Had the strangest dream that I was feeling baby move in bed. In the dream I told DP to feel it too. It was so real I'm wondering if it actually happened!

KamikazeeKid · 04/05/2013 09:04

Ouchy ouch ouch!
Seems spd has kicked in here...I actually think my fanjo is going to fall off...

Anyone had physio or support for spd ir pgp?? I got it so late last time it was too late to do anything about it....I can't imagine another 18 weeks of this!!!!

Going back to childcare vouchers conversation. ...does anyone know if you can opt out if leaving for maternity? I thought smp couldn't be touched by things like pensions and childcare but I paid pension contributions throughout my smp last time??? Not at my request I should add????

flipflump · 04/05/2013 09:44

Frogchops, this little fish woke me for the first time last night. The kicks are getting much stronger. Maybe it wasn't a dream Smile DH still can't feel them but there is a layer of blubber and my placenta is anterior.

Dorita, hormones are crazy things!! I used to be a calm, considerate driver. If anyone dreams of pulling out in front of me, cutting me up etc, they get a mouthful!!! Must be the protective instinct kicking in!!! Wink

RunningBear78 · 04/05/2013 10:22

On the drinking front, I don't drink, not even a little when I am not pregnant, neither does dh, but people always comment and find it really odd, I don't really know why. I just don't really like the taste of alcohol and much prefer Ribena! Seems to be a thing everyone feels they can comment on, adding a bump just makes it worse!

I'm pretty sure employers can't make you take leave if you feel unwell during pregnancy, they just have to suck it up. Id you are worried, get yr midwife to sign you off or something. I've ended up having a few odd days off work now and then for headaches, tiredness and yesterday as I have a stinking horrible cold.feel very lucky to be working with ladies who recently had babies so symptoms are all very recent for them and they know how different everyone is. Mum was less supportive, v confused as to why I was ill now as she never was with me, bloody superwoman!

SGJ · 04/05/2013 11:59

Frog, I was under the impression that any sickness during pregnancy doesn't count, ie, you're pregnant, not sick. It shouldn't be part of your SIL days for the year... anyone else heard that?
I can count one one hand the total number of units of alcohol I've had since being pregnant, I've now decided to stick to Becks Blue and found alcohol free Koppaberg cider in Tesco this morning, so I'm set for summer! You can also make non-alcoholic Pimms by mixing 2 litres of lemonade with 2 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar - with all the fruit/cucumber/mint added in too, it tastes virtually identical! (Slimming World trick!)
