More beautiful sunshine today - how lucky for those of us who've started mat leave! Timing really couldn't have been better (although sympathy for those not in the south).

Felt my first twinges last night - actually, was more like full-on, constant period cramps and some backache, which was only relieved slightly by sitting on the birthing ball and having a gentle bounce... No show or anything, but def a sign things are moving. And I've woken up this morning absolutely shattered. Achey limbs, total exhaustion. Bizarre. I've been really full of beans recently. Thankfully today's another delivery day so I can lie in the garden and take it easy.

Have to go to a 1950s rock n' roll themed 30th birthday party about an hour away from home tomorrow night...I think I must be mad. All of my good friends will be there, so it will be nice. We've booked into a nice village pub hotel so I can just waddle off when I've had enough, but aside from that, Mumsnetters, what the hell am I going to wear???? Was thinking about getting the rollers out and a headscarf, and I've got a maternity pencil skirt for work so I could try working that.

rachywhite83 · 03/05/2013 10:00

Sweep done. All went well now for a bounce on my ball !

Rhienne · 03/05/2013 10:09

Arti - re less movement. Obviously it's not definitely a problem, but I saw my midwife yestersay and we talked about what happens if you go overtime here. They induce at 42+0, not looking forward to waiting that long if needs be! But she said that generally it's better to wait, and if you're worried that the baby might not be ok that long, one of the signs to look out for was decreased movement, in what had been an otherwise active baby. So if you've had a real decrease in movement and haven't seen anyone for a while, it might be an idea to ring your MW or antenatal centre and ask for them to have a quick check.

My LO has not stopped moving, just seems like the movements are getting more powerful. Not really enjoying the feet coming out my side, or the butt trying to push up out the bottom of my rib cage. ;S I have tried to explain that out here, outside, there's loads more space to stretch, and the exit is downwards, but so far, no success...

We had a cleaner come in yesterday, and it is wonderful to have a clean house! No to try and keep it somewhat tidy and clean until LO shows up.

Another tip for those still packing bags for hospital - one or two changes of clothes for your birthing partner as well! There's lots of icky stuff involved in giving birth, starting with sweat and probably ending with meconium, and by the time DS arrived and was all dressed, DH needed a change! :O

39+6. And waiting...

Anyone else's baby back to back? Have been informed this is the case hence all the start stop contractions.

babygeek · 03/05/2013 11:35

I love dress up parties beaver, your outfit ideas sound great. You could always look to Grease for some 50's inspiration :)

InNeedofSomeSleep · 03/05/2013 12:35

Thingie my 1st was back to back she turned when I was a week late. I had her naturally with just gas and air. It was some hard pushing tho but I got to pull her out which I loved. Sorry if that grosses anyone out.

ng1412 · 03/05/2013 12:52

How is the weather in the UK? Is it really nice? We have had the worst weather possible, fog and rain all week here. We normally have wonderful springtimes and I had anticipated spending the last few weeks of pregnancy sitting in the garden eating magnums whle my DD played. Not going to happen!

No twinges or BHs here, not a sausage. All very frustrating.

Arti definitely have different kinds of movements, not necessarily reduced I don't think. But I know what you mean. Lots of hiccups though, baby must like a drink Grin

BeauticianNotMagician · 03/05/2013 13:02

The weather is lovely here.Im in the Midlands.

Arti you shouldn't have reduced movement just different movement which you may not feel as much.My midwife tells me every appt now to go straight in for reduced movement. My movements are more like rolling now and lil twinges at the sides which I presume are hands and feet

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 03/05/2013 13:05

thingie my RL friend had a v quick homebirth with a back to back. So it's not always bad.

scooby26 · 03/05/2013 14:25

Bargain alert-asda baby event on and they have a nice Moses basket for 25 pounds... In addition. Mothercare have a more colourful one ( little circus) was £46 - down to 22!

BeauticianNotMagician · 03/05/2013 15:30

Scooby I just had an Asda delivery. I am not like the lady from the baby wipe advert. I have 18 packs of wipes and 8 packs of first size nappies. I think all that lot should do for now Grin

BeauticianNotMagician · 03/05/2013 15:31

Not=now

tasmaniandevilchaser · 03/05/2013 15:51

thingie DD was back to back, apparently they can turn during labour, so the consultant said it wasn't worth worrying about. Not a great deal you can do about it. Sorry not much help!

Feeling like it could be soon....not due til Tuesday but DM and DF come to pick up DD tomorrow, so I'm hoping that he puts in an appearance while they have her, it would be much more convenient!

Off to check on Asda deals..... thanks for the tip!

Reenypip · 03/05/2013 17:06

Hiya,
I'm in the Facebook group and get notifications on there, but haven't been on here in ages!
How's everyone? I've seen some beautiful pictures of some of your newborns already :-)
I'm 38 weeks 2 days now, and my elective c section is next Thursday. I keep wondering if I'm going to go into labour before then because of the increased period like cramps, eating loads, etc.

Reenypip · 03/05/2013 17:10

Can the baby start getting lower into pelvis then decide to come out and turn around?
Because last night I'm sure baby went transverse (side ways). I had painful cramps and movements from baby and could actually see the movement which looked like the bottom coming higher and turning to the right and then more pain pressure in my left hip with another bump on that side. My belly had visually two odd shape bumps like a mountain (left to right) and was tight/sore.

BeauticianNotMagician · 03/05/2013 18:44

Which baby monitor has everyone gone for. It's pretty much the only item I'm left to get. Just had a cheap basic one with the boys. They've changed a lot since so just wondering if anyone has a recommendation

tasmaniandevilchaser · 03/05/2013 18:51

beaut I've just got the one we had with DD, tbh our flat is so tiny not sure why we bothered! Peace of mind I suppose.

reeny not sure about the baby turning, I had a scan at 33 wks and she said that it's very unlikely the baby will turn, but it does sound like there was some serious movement in there!

Is eating loads a sign baby is on its way??! I didn't know that, I have been starving the last couple of days.

Bunnychan · 03/05/2013 21:14

lolly I'm still working next week so in keeping my legs crossed and banning baby from coming until next sat lol.
Call me thick but I've borrow a tens machine from a friend. How does it work? How am I supposed to use it? X

DXBMermaid · 04/05/2013 06:08

DH is leaving for KSA today and won't be back till Wednesday evening. I've had a chat with the baby and told her she is absolutely not allowed to arrive before he gets back! Feeling a bit wobbly at the thought of being alone which is strange for me. Must be the hormones!

Still in process of packing my hospital bag. For some reason I keep putting things in and then taking them out again. Feel like I'm packing for a surprise holiday and don't know if I'll need my bikini or my snow suit iyswim.

Have lots to do in the next couple of days and hopefully will have enough energy and not too much pevic pain to do it!

InNeedofSomeSleep · 04/05/2013 07:16

Another early start in our house and it's raining.

For the past 2 days I have had very loose bowels and last night I woke up feeling really sick in the night. DH thinks the baby is gonna come this week. I can't remember how I felt the days before last labour.

As the weather is so bad no beach walk today think I'll be checking my hospital bag and trying to rest.

Artichook · 04/05/2013 07:51

Gosh DXB, that's hard that your DH is travelling. I'm sure you'll be fine though. Are your family around.

Can't Sleep, where are you? It's sooo sunny here (sorry!).

Thanks for all the comments about the reduced movements. Just as I was thinking I should get checked he did of course go crazy!

InNeedofSomeSleep · 04/05/2013 08:16

Arti it's always the way you think they are quiet you get checked and they move loads. We are in Somerset, I can see a bit of blue sky coming behind the big grey cloud.

DXBMermaid · 04/05/2013 09:52

Arti, my family aren't around (we live in Dubai, my parents in the Netherlands and my in-laws in South Africa), but Saudi Arabia isn't too far so if anything happens he should be able to make it back in time and I have had offers from various friends to call them if I need them. Very glad to know that there are lots of people I can depend on. But, like I said I don't think the baby will come in the next few days as I'm due till the 22nd.

Just saw another arrival on FB page. A gorgeous little boy! Very cute.

MammaBrussels · 04/05/2013 12:57

Hope you have an obedient baby DBX Smile.

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 04/05/2013 13:40

Bunny which tens machine do you have? And have you got the pads for it?
