Welcome back all June-ers, just realised we were about to run out of space on the old thread.

I'm planning on no make up, don't wear it anyway, as a last resort may add my bb cream into my handbag so it's there, but like I say I don't think I even wear it once a month!
The only scary thing about the triage guys was when they said To call if my waters break, pretty sure it's a standard thing they tell everyone but I nearly had a heart attack, do they not know I've stuck my head in the sand that within the next 2 months there's going to be a small human in my care!?!

AlohaMama · 28/04/2013 02:56

LOVE these craft projects. As a marine biologist anything that involves dressing up babies as sea creatures is close to my heart!

Just spent a bit too much money on baby clothes. I realised I needed a few newborn things plus some long sleeved things at least for the journey over and first few days, before shopping for warm stuff when we arrive. Managed to get everything with crabs, fish and whales on, and hardly any pink in sight. So cute though.

DH thought i was being mean when i said his parents couldnt stay after baby arrived (they live 3 hrs away). I said they could stay in the B&B 50 metres away or at my mums 15 mins away. Thankfully after yesterdays NCT class he said that he know thinks thats a really good idea.

Oh and with regards to makeup - so long as i have mascara and eyebrow pencil I'll be happy because otherwise someone might call social services about the albino 12yr old who has just given birth

SunnyL · 28/04/2013 05:36

P.s. Aloha - snap. I'm a marine biologist too by background.

AlohaMama · 28/04/2013 05:44

Yay for fellow fish lovers!

Sunny - yep, I look ill without mascara and without the vast amounts of blood I lost having DS that they didn't notice until a few days later when my iron levels were finally checked leading me to look at death's door in all DS's first photos so this time round, the basics need to be there.

AmIGoingMad · 28/04/2013 07:57

Stef- glad all checked out ok!

Dontmind- I too look like death in the hospital photos also partly as they didn't transfuse until a day or so after birth despite me being a pleasant mix of grey and green! I'll take some make up with me but not entirely sure that I'll have any time to actually apply it- think I did the same last time! Maybe this time I'll apply some in early labour and see if it lasts- I could give it the best review ever if it did!!!!Grin

MrsBri · 28/04/2013 08:03

Aloha, great news that you now know what you'll be doing. Good luck with the planning and logistics. I hope our summer here is better than the last two, otherwise the first thing you should buy is wellies and raincoats!

And no, just absolutely no, no, no to any parents staying after the birth. My in laws are thankfully only 5 minutes away so won't be staying, and even if my parents were to visit (my mum has anxiety issues and can't travel) they would be sensible enough to book a hotel somewhere. We're in a seaside town, so there's loads of choice.

And Steff, I'm with you on the make up thing. I don't wear it so won't have any with me. Hopefully I'll look at least half human in photos!

Who'd have thought we'd have two marine biologists here?! Can't be a common occupation?

Hawk, that's an awesome project for baby. The cross stitch is all I'm doing. I did a little more of it yesterday after a break as it takes over my life meaning I avoid stuff I really should be doing! Once I stop work I can go for broke :-)

Last 4.5 days at work this week. Really can't wait til 12.30 on Friday!

pinkapples · 28/04/2013 08:39

Good morning ladies up bright and early again and my eyes are making me as my hubby says 'look like a 90 yr old'! Hmm No aqua natal this morning for me as I decided I didn't really want to make them worse so instead I am swimming in a bath tub practising pelvic floors and talking to myself Grin

Took some time out with hubby last night to have a bath together (yes amazed myself that we still fit) and he proceeded to tell me that my eyes made me look like a 90 yr old my boobs aren't where they used to be (der') and I'm in his words chubby! The whole pregnancy he's been telling me I look gorgeous and not to worry and well slim together when she's born but no it seems all it takes is a bit of naked bath time and the truth comes out!

pinkapples just takes them relaxing for them not to be so tactful any more eh!? I had 'oi waddler let's not take all day to walk 5 mins' yesterday!

I really should be getting out of bed and packing a bag as off to London for the night as Dp has court again tomorrow. should get a definite answer to what's happening tomorrow.

in good news ordered the pram last night so looking forward to that arriving! just need to get a mattress and I think we could cope with an early arrival if we had too!

Olimoss · 28/04/2013 10:10

Aloha - please please bring some sunshine back with you. I'm DESPERATE for a proper summer, I really don't want to have to wrap NewHuman in layers of clothes. Ideally I'd like him to have a good Aussie start in life, ie: just wearing a nappy and singlet, let his little skin breathe...!

God. Parents. So obv my Mum lives in Australia. She's actually very young and cool and all that, so it's not like a massive drama she's coming over but I didn't figure out early enough that I'd probably prefer a week or so at home just the three of us, before she comes, so she arrives 10 days before my CSection date, and is staying till mid-July. Then a month later my dad and his partner will be here, though they will be stopping by for days (rather than weeks) at a time in amidst a longer European trip. It'll be fun to have mum here before the birth, and brilliant for the first couple of weeks or so when I'm a bit incapacitated, but slightly worried about after that.

Was thinking that I'd just say, 'it's brilliant you're here to help me and my boyfriend out so we can get to know our baby' and try keep that the focus - ie: she's here to look after us and we will look after the baby. Do you reckon that sounds ok?

Last NCT yesterday was the best, thank goodness, and we had a blast down the pub afterwards, seem to have really lucked out with the people in the group. Big relief they are all so cool.

I'm totally going to have mascara on for the CSection! I'm pretty sure I won't be allowed my contacts in so will be speccy, too...

Off for a fancy lunch out today, YUM. Prosecco ahoy!

Have aces days, everyone...

MrsBri · 28/04/2013 10:50

Pinkapples, my DH went 'quack quack' at me in the supermarket the other day :-/ He is still calling me his sexy preggo wife, but I feel those days are numbered!

Pinkbear, good luck tomorrow. Hope you have a sympathetic Judge.

Oli, you're a better woman than I am! I couldn't cope for that long with my mother around.

I think it is going to be tricky with parents who want to help and do things with their grandchild as I'm worried that it may cross the line between helpful and irritatingly overbearing. Will need to learn tact somewhere between now and birth!

Sunbeam18 · 28/04/2013 11:07

I have a daft question that I need to ask! Do we need to take a hairdryer in our hospital bag? I guess it's standard form to have a hairwash after the birth? At least I hope so! I'm guessing taking my usual straighteners would be pushing it, but I really can't do 'dried naturally' hair! And yes, my make up will be coming with me...

Olimoss · 28/04/2013 11:30

I guess I figure that my Mum won't see us more than once a year, on average, so front-loading the contact might be nice for her...

Steffanoid · 28/04/2013 11:39

Oh man only just though about my MIL gleefully telling me that she's got the 2 weeks surrounding my edd booked off work, I hope that doesn't imply she'll be here for all of that, I couldn't cope, it sounds very silly but I don't like the way she cleans things, I'm a little bit particular, I could cope with it if it were my mum as I learnt my cleaning from her, with any luck MIL will just have booked that time so she can come or a day or so to meet the new arrival, here's to wishful thinking, and that bubs arrives at a completely different time so we have the chance to be alone together before being inundated with people staying

redwellybluewelly · 28/04/2013 13:06

Last time I looked like death warmed up after delivery, and in the weeks which followed us getting home. This time I have bought some miniature posh shower gel and hair products, my hair is being cut two weeks before CS and I will also be going in fully groomed with straighteners in bag. And although I don't wear make up often I'll take some tinted moisturiser and mascara.

DH and I are a little odd with this pregnancy, neither of us have really made much of a big deal over it so when baby is here and ok I'd like to take loads of pictures, esp with DD included and given I'm the size of a whale now then looking nice will help my self esteem a bit.

Anyway. Busy day yesterday and also today, baking and gardening. Have takem to wearing the physio support band all the time and it is helping a great deal. Washing more ickle baby things today and moses basket will arrive with a friend in a fortnight. Eek!

redwellybluewelly · 28/04/2013 13:08

Oh and as for parents staying, my mother hasnt spoken to me since the week before mothering Sunday and my MIL is happy to pop in but wouldn't dream of staying!

Sarah2506 · 28/04/2013 13:27

To be clear I don't object to the taking in of make up - it's more the fact she said that not having her make up bag with her was one of her top concerns of the whole giving birth process! I will be booking a cut and hair dye for the week before - though thats more cos I don't anticipate having spare time afterwards and a decent hair cut always makes me feel good!

I wouldn't pack a hair dryer - they can be funny about you plugging in untested appliances in my experience. Some hospitals have them though. My top tip from previous hospital stays is dry shampoo. Should tide you over until you are home.

I am going to call mum now and tell her she has to come and stay. I'm then going to sit back and listen for the sound of her hitting the floor in shock.

pinkapples · 28/04/2013 14:16

Seems like we're all having out hair for I've booked in for mid 2 weeks before my due date so even if she's a bit early I should still manage to get it in Grin

Littlemissexpecting · 28/04/2013 14:26

Aloha great news that you now know what your doing.
With regards to make up I'll chuck my make up bag in if I remember but it will probably just be forgotten, or I might make the effort to put some hinted moisturiser and mascara on, maybe some blush.
I've bought some miniature toiletries (shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, face wipes, dry shampoo) so I don't have to worry about full size toiletries taking up loads of room. If I get kept in for longer than a few nights DH can bring in more.
Not sure what we're doing about visitors after lo arrival. My family live around 400 miles away and my mum said she will be on her way as soon as she hears I'm in labour. If my dad comes with her they will get a hotel but if my dad can't leave work for what ever reason he will join her when he can so I'm hoping my mum will still want to get a hotel?!
We no longer have a spare room as now baby's room so hoping that will deter overnight guests!
Met up with a friend earlier who is having no more babies and has given me boxes and boxes of clothes up to 3 months. Not sure where its all going to go!!

Littlemissexpecting · 28/04/2013 14:27

How many of you are taking a towel in your hospital bag? I must remember to ask my mw if I need to.
Thanks for reminding me to book a hair cut too, it needs doing now but I'm trying to leave it as long as I can so i can get it cut before lo arrives.

Sunbeam18 · 28/04/2013 15:31

Crikey, the essentials for the hospital bag seem to cost at least £100! Am I doing something wrong?!

AlohaMama · 28/04/2013 15:34

Thanks for the support ladies. Was worried you'd all say 'what are you thinking of trying to move countries with a newborn and a toddler!'

Oli I will do me best to bring the sun with me for my sanity as much as anything. Saying that though it is currently too hot and I'm bored of being sweaty all the time. Plus went to beach to snorkel yesterday (working thru the bucket list) and no have a slightly pink bump. Oops.

I packed make up last time, but never remembered to put it on and actually we were so preoccupied with having a new baby that dh only took about 2 photos total. Hair cut though, there's an idea.

Trying to ignore you all worrying about having too much time with your parents. After all from 6 wks on I'll be living with mine for 3 months!

Pink bear, good luck tomorrow.

Ugh having a rubbish afternoon trying to find mattresses for the Moses basket and family crib, how am I supposed to know if they're new or not if they're from ashop? Also they're really stupid sizes, the Moses basket is 73 x 31 cm and the crib is rectangular at 84 x 45 cm anyone know where to get awkward mattresses from?
