Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
IcingOnTheNappyCake · 18/04/2013 18:50

dinky totally agree, wasn't even a proper fit just a whip around with a tape measure and off you pop, I used to work at m&s where the average bra fit took 30 minutes and you got everything you could want from there!

slouching oh thats not good but you know now what it is at least, you can demand sympathy from everyone at home now Wink hope something can help though xxx

Devilforasideboard · 18/04/2013 18:54

That's fantastic news Shiv! DH asks after Oliver so he now has at least one real soldier in his army :)

BB01 · 18/04/2013 19:02

Schro great news re test. Best of luck!

Shiv how lovely. Must have been a very special moment

Icing that's crap you got treated like that. I've heard lots of different things re bras. At mo am wearing non underwired but I find them comfier. They're not special maternity ones though. My boobies are still too small for most maternity bras even though they feel huge compared to pre pregnancy!

SlouchingPanda · 18/04/2013 19:18

Schro great news for your test! Surely no examiner would dare to fail a heavily pregnant woman Wink.

Icing - sounds like crappy customer service! I cannot see that there is any harm in wiring as long as they fit you correctly. Are there any independent bra shops near you? I went to a fabulous one who measured me, let me try on loads, gave awesome advice and didn't mind that I left without buying.

Sadly unless my iron stores fall there's not much that can be done short of a transfusion if I drop a lot lower. But I really don't fancy that! I am self prescribing regular naps, sitting down a lot and red meat!

Dinky - sorry to return to gin when we're banned, but have you tried Berry Bros No. 3? It is my fave by far.

Thinkingof4 · 18/04/2013 19:22

shiv that's lovely news about Oliver. Thank you for taking the time to post. Hopefully the first of many feeds xx

AmaDablam · 18/04/2013 19:24

Excellent news Shiv, so lovely to hear Oliver has had his first meal of Mummy's milk Smile

Icing it's horrible when someone in a shop that should be well used to dealing with pregnant women was so awful and judgemental. I wore underwired bras until 20 weeks when they started digging in at the sides. I did a fair bit of research on the internet and opinion seemed to be divided 50/50 as to whether they are bad for you or not, so I just trusted my intuition. Debenhams actually stock an underwired maternity bra so if they were that bad I don't see how a major store could get away with it! I think the main things going for non-wired is that they are slightly more forgiving if you start to grow out of them. On the downside the are never going to be as supportive and tend to be a bit frumpy (especially when you get past a DD cup) so it's whatever works for you, really.

Thinking, Bigbelly and Dinky thanks for the words of wisdom re. hospital bags. You are right, I should have all the stuff I need with me in terms of clothes anyway when I go away in May (may stick a bag of maternity pads in the car just in case, and notes go everywhere with me anyway) and if the baby comes that early, she's not going to fit in newborn clothes and nappies, let alone need them.

Thinkingof4 · 18/04/2013 19:30

slouching blimey no wonder you are tired. I'm exhausted this week but am assuming my Hb is ok as it was checked at 28 weeks. I'm getting lots of dizziness/ seeing stars if I get up quickly but it's more of a nuisance than anything else. Speaking to occ health sounds like s good plan

icing that's terrible customer service you should complain about her. Hope you are feeling better now

abzs hope your dh trip offshore goes well. It's pretty windy so might be a bit rough on rig. My dh used to work offshore and he was always telling me about the rig swaying about it high seas. I think I would be seasick! Enjoy your trip home too

TotallyEggFlipped · 18/04/2013 19:31

Is everyone carrying their maternity notes around with them? I hadn't planned on doing it yet. I never carried them with DD. I'm not even sure exactly where they are right now. I know I left them somewhere safe though so shouldn't be too hard to find before 28 week appointment next week.

Thinkingof4 · 18/04/2013 19:32

AMA I'm taking notes everywhere with me too now. That's probably the most important thing to carry

SlouchingPanda · 18/04/2013 20:04

I carry mine pretty much everywhere (goody two shoes). As I don't seem to go anywhere except work it's not a big ordeal!

Runswithsquirrels · 18/04/2013 20:29

I carry mine everywhere since 15 weeks when I didn't and had a bleed and had to go home from work instead of going straight to hospital!

Runswithsquirrels · 18/04/2013 20:29

And I bought a new handbag to fit them in :)

TotallyEggFlipped · 18/04/2013 20:30

I like the way you operate, Runs

VinegarDrinker · 18/04/2013 20:31

I don't carry my notes with me to work etc but did feel smug that I remembered to take them on holiday at Easter.

slouching I was ST2 when I had DS1, I did similar to what you were aiming to do wrt work.... But my Hb was at least 2g/dL higher than yours! Definitely see occy health. I really can't see your Consultants having a problem with it though.

All this talk of cake! I have cycled nearly 50 miles this week so reckon I definitely deserve it. ignoring the chocolate I've been troughing

VinegarDrinker · 18/04/2013 20:32

If I was driving to work I would take them btw, but I travel light with a mini pannier! If I went in to labour at work, they all know my history anyway!

dinkystinky · 18/04/2013 20:48

Slouching - havent tried that one. Will put it on my post baby arrival rider!

Dont carry my notes with me on a day to day basis, even though you're meant to - my handbag is overstuffed as it is! I do take them with me when I'm out of London though.

bigbelly4 · 18/04/2013 20:55

Shiv - Bloody fantastic news! Keep on pumping!

I saw MW this afternoon for 28 week appointment, and all ok. I appear to have agreed to a homebirth! I'm actually really excited and really happy about desicion. My biggest fear was a baby not breathing, but MW confirmed they carry full resus equipment including intubation tubes so has really put my mind at ease.

Really trust this MW as she was the only one who recognised that my youngest was poorly and needed to be re-admitted at about 8 days. Despite me telly other MWs my concerns they ignored them but this one took one look at baby and was on phone to consultant within minutes - turned out he had undiagnosed jaundice.

Off for a romantic weekend away tomorrow (the one i was supposed to go on last week) and really looking forward to it!

PhieEl06 · 18/04/2013 20:58

Will be taking my notes if I go away from home but for work & general day to day stuff was not going to bother until I come back off holiday at 31 weeks... Am I being silly there?

AmaDablam · 18/04/2013 20:59

My notes generally live in my work bag, and then if we go away overnight, the car glove box. I have to say if I was just going out for the day at the weekend, I probably wouldn't have them with me - so not as goody-goody as all that!

Just found out that our friend from Nepal is visiting the UK for two weeks at the end of July (a once in a lifetime event for him). He arrives 4 days before my due date. DH and I just been trying to work out possible ways of getting to see him, but so many "what if's".... It's just really sunk in for us both, that this is the first time a major life event is coming up where we have absolutely no idea of or no control over exactly when/what is going to happen. Eeeeeek! Shock

TotallyEggFlipped · 18/04/2013 21:20

Have a fantastic weekend, Bigbelly.

My calves have been really sore and achy for the last week or two. They feel like I've overdone it on a long run, but ironically it only started after I gave up running. Confused. They're very tender to touch too, but not swollen or anything so I'm pretty confident I don't have bilateral DVTs! My theory is that my belly is so big I'm doing a whole different form of exercise just keeping upright!! My thighs also feel tired every time I go up stairs. It's like I magically became unfit the day I stopped running Sad.

SundaySunshine · 18/04/2013 21:23

oh, I'm not carrying my notes with me, I hadn't really thought about it, but probably is a good idea...

Sacro best of luck with your test, learning to drive was one of the best things I did.

Totally hope your DD is feeling better today.

Icing poor you. getting your boobs measured is bad enough when they're nice to you. She obviously needs to refresh her customer service training.

slouching hope you manage to take things easy, you must feel wiped out.

Ama hope you get to see your friend, will he be staying somewhere near you or would you/he have to travel to meet up? It's a bit frustrating not being able to make solid plans around the time of your EDD isn't it.

right, back to my knitting Smile

Guavasforbreakfast · 18/04/2013 21:33

Thanks for recipes icing and sunday, just what I need Smile

Sorry they were so mean at mothercare icing, I can also vouch for bravissimo as they did mine today and were great - am reeling a little from the FF shock however! The one I got is low cut and no nursing clips so I can feel normal a bit longer. Also as slouching said, the guidance from bravissimo was that you could continue to wear wired so long as it was the correct fit, and to get refitted as soon as it felt uncomfortable.

Amazing about the first feed shiv, bet it makes all the painful expressing feel worthwhile Smile

Uh oh I don't carry my notes except to appointments. Actually forgot them for 20 week scan as I was so nervous!

27+2

IcingOnTheNappyCake · 18/04/2013 21:56

ama ahh im sure youll get to see your friend, these things always work out.

Thanks for all your support on the fittings guys, feel much better and might rebook a fitting at an m&s as i know theyre pretty reliable...

Been feeling so many massive kicks today! But think its because ive been walking so much, wasn't walking as much before because of sciatica (any advice on getting rid of that would be AMAZING!) but now its getting a bit better im able to go for whole shopping trips Smile sounds simple but feels like such an achievement

Hope you guys are all keeping well xxx

dinkystinky · 18/04/2013 22:04

Icing - you can't totally get rid of sciatica but pregnancy yoga can help alleviate the symptoms. If you post in pregnancy I am pretty sure there are some sciatica pros on there who can give tips.

Have a lovely weekend bigbelly. V exciting about the home birth - bet it will be a fast one!

Ama - hope it all works out so you see your friend.

Totally - ouch re your calves. How are your magnesium levels? Try lots of tonic water and bananas or mag phos supplements to see if they help - I got bad leg cramps with ds1 and ds2 and the may phos helped.

Abzs · 18/04/2013 22:41

Trip away now slightly spoiled by the arrival of a massive contingent of caravans across the road from my house. It's an annual occurrence and we have never had any actual trouble apart from noise, but I always worry about who is following them round using them as cover. Could really do without the worry.
