Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Runswithsquirrels · 22/04/2013 16:43

Hello everyone.

I don't need to try living on one income at present as we are - mine. Trying not to worry though. Trying to convince DP he may have to be a househusband... He's not sold yet!

MrsRoss I thought I was going to 'go late' but had two dreams telling me I was going to go a week early - so we shall see. Bubba is tall so will probably run out of room.

I hope everyone is having a worry free day. I'm off to write more school reports now.

Ciao.

IcingTheCake · 22/04/2013 16:55

I know what you mean about being early, i think i just cant imagine waiting any longer than my due date! Me, my OH, my brother, his brother, all on the due dates! So we'll see Grin

esme80 · 22/04/2013 17:32

I kind of expected to go over with ds when I was getting towards the end as he was my first, was quite pleased when he came 2 days before due, those extra 2 weeks some women go before induction must be very uncomfortable! I think this one will be similar, but who knows?

Abzs · 22/04/2013 17:32

Re early/late I saw my mum today and she looked at the bump and declared that she "can't see me lasting until July".

Have now acquired a silver cross pram with car seat and rocker/stand, matching sheets for when it's a crib, changing bag, cot, bits of hardly used clothing and some books. A huge pile of stuff to fit in the car. There are advantages to going third out of my siblings. Though goodness knows what DH will think when he gets back onshore and can't get in the house.

TotallyEggFlipped · 22/04/2013 18:01

I know what you mean about babies coming early. I was induced with DD at 36 weeks and she came pretty quickly - only needed membranes ruptured and she was out in under 3 hours. No drugs. So I feel like she must've been ready to come out couldn't wait to escape my inadequate placenta I'm hoping this one will stay in a but longer, but 6 days early would be great - I'd love to give birth on my mum's birthday.

Devil - DD is known as Bobble (not her real name)! She was called sproglet whilst in utero, but became Bobble after a few months and it stuck.

Runswithsquirrels · 22/04/2013 19:20

Okay, question time - tonic water! I have dreadful leg cramps and am wondering whether to try tonic water. I know Quinine is not recommended during pregnancy but the amount in TW seems so minimal and googling has told me one NHS trust acually recommends it. Any opinions/evidence anyone?

dinkystinky · 22/04/2013 19:33

What you need is magnesium Runs - tonic water and bananas are good sources IIRC (and what the MWs recommend) but the only thing that really helped me in my last 2 pregnancies were mag phos (magnesium phosphate) pillules I absorbed under my tongue every few hours.

Runswithsquirrels · 22/04/2013 19:36

Okay. I might try the TW tonight as this is what we have here and locate some magnesium in the week.

Runswithsquirrels · 22/04/2013 19:36

Thanks BTW.

CitizenOscar · 22/04/2013 19:38

Hi everyone - I was another one getting checked out this weekend. Had some bleeding and reduced movements so they suggested I go in. They monitored baby and looked at my cervix & said all ok. Also took swab to test for infection. Felt very relieved after the check. Also saw lovely (male) midwife who I remembered from when I had DS, which was quite reassuring - hopefully they're some more familiar faces when I actually go in to have the baby. Would love to have the same midwife deliver DS2 - she was so lovely - but what are the chances?!

Hope everyone else who had worries this weekend has been reassured. I remember I had something similar at this stage with DS1 so maybe it's something that tends to happen around now?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/04/2013 20:30

Getting very Envy looking at all the bumps on the FB page.

Citizen I'm glad everything was okay when you were checked, maybe you will get lucky and will see someone you know when you are in labour. :)

MrsWildermac · 22/04/2013 21:43

Hi everyone...

Been a while since I posted but have been lurking and keeping up to date with everyone's news.

Just wanted to say Shiv thinking of you and little Oliver and praying that he'll get stronger every day. My DH was born at 26 weeks 34 years ago and was the earliest, smallest baby ever to survive then. Hope little Oliver keeps fighting and getting stronger.

Would love to join the FB group if someone can tell me how!

MrsWildermac · 22/04/2013 21:44

Oh, and my midwife recommended TW for leg cramps!

Runswithsquirrels · 22/04/2013 22:13

Mrs Wildermac, if you PM me I can add you to the FB group. I'll just need to know yr Facebook name so I can find you!

Thanks for the ref to TW, am going to glue some now!

AmaDablam · 23/04/2013 06:55

Morning, thanks for the good wishes and hope everyone else's health niggles/worries have cleared up and turn out to be nothing serious. I have had that side, under the rib-cage pain that others have described too but having mentioned it to both the MW and the out of hours GP, neither seemed to bat an eyelid, so I'm assuming it's fairly normal.

Welcome lancslass, nice to have a date twin! Hope all is going well for you.

Got a parking ticket yesterday - booo. Purely through baby-brain and forgetting that the ticket I bought was only valid for 12 hours and not 24. Just kept thinking about all the nice things for baby I could have spent that £60 on! Still, I think pregnancy and especially stories like Shiv's put everything into perspective a bit - it really isn't the end of the world.

I don't particularly have a "feeling" whether this baby's going to be early or late, but something tells me she is going to surprise us one way or another (last night I dreamt I had a boy, so that could be it, sonographers do get it wrong sometimes!). DH has persuaded me into a weekend away when I will be 35 weeks (provided I feel up to it). I only said yes on the premise that our nearest hospital would be the one where SiL had her boys and she seemed to have a good experience there.

Runswithsquirrels · 23/04/2013 07:42

Ama try writing a letter explaining the ticket and see if you get let of. Nothing ventured...

cheekbyjowl · 23/04/2013 08:48

Thanks dinky the emergency fund sounds like a good idea as we'll forget things like dental costs etc im sure (do fillings privately)

im assuming I'll be late as its the first. My boss thinks I'll be early as I'm only stopping work.at week 39,the friday before edd. But I also think its a boy, though nothing to go by.

ama sorry about your parking ticket. I get a stitch like pain on lower.right.sometimes but assume its just a twist or cramp as its always when walking and always goes away.

Hey what amazing weather. Will be.lovely having summer babies. Yay!
Grin
Oh we finally got our first baby items (no pram yet though) We ordered some from john lewis, I thought.id need to collect from their oxford st store but they deliver to waitrose. How good is that? Ordered on sunday at 3 collect the next day at local supermarket. Thought id tell.people in case its useful

SundaySunshine · 23/04/2013 08:51

Morning all,

Wow, great news about Oliver, thanks for the updates. Shiv I hope you and DH are managing to get some rest.

Sorry to hear that some of you have had baby worries over the weekend, glad to see most of you have been given the all clear.

I have no idea if boy babe will be coming early or not, DD was 12 days late, but I'm hoping that won't be repeated this time, it was so uncomfortable in the hot August sun.

I'm also already on a single income, just my measly pt wage, but luckily we have already adapted to frugal living so it won't be too much of a culture shock for us.

I have just booked a short holiday in the May half term to the Kent coast, I'll be 36 weeks, and I'll have to do all the driving as DH can't drive, so I hope I haven't been too ambitious Hmm. I'll definately be taking my notes on that trip.

Right we're of to 'the beach' while the sun is still shining. Hope everyone has a lovely day.

notprincesskate · 23/04/2013 09:00

I had DD at 31 weeks for severe PET and have been told in a not if, but when way to expect this one to also be early, again due to PET, so I'm fully expecting to have had jumping bean by the time I'm 36 weeks, although keep hoping they might be wrong.
Got my weekly appt with midwife today to check BP and urine, so fingers crossed I get to keep cooking, also want the pain in L hand side looked at again and feels like nerve pain rather than muscular, also have a couple of blister like spots, so have self diagnosed, wonder if I'm right Wink.
On a completely different note (not looking at photographer in anyway, I think there are a few interested in photography on here and was wondering if anyone would recommend one of these online courses, in particular the one on group-on at mo, I'm very amateur, but hoping to use some time on mat leave to improve.

Cheek - the emergency fund is a great buffer and means you dont get shafted when (for example) your car breaks down. The other thing I found really useful (and still do now, even though I'm back at work full time) was to plan ahead for big expenses (e.g. Christmas/holidays) by setting a budget and setting aside a small amount of cash each month from groceries from about 5 months before the event in question - and keeping an eye out for bargains. You know you can get free NHS dental care for a year post birth (your maternity exemption card covers this)? Is a life saver as my teeth are always rubbish during and post pregnancy.

Ama - what a pain re the parking ticket. DH has appealed, and won the appeal, lots of parking tickets - he's never pleaded pregnancy brain though Grin Worth a go as Runs says. Enjoy your weekend away - we did a weekend away when I was 36 weeks with DS1 and it was lovely to have a last couples weekend before the baby arrived.

Runs - hope your cramps passed. Figs, peas, green leafy veg also apparently good magnesium sources. Makes me wonder if that's the reason I havent had cramps so bad this time round as have been eating veggies more than usual.

dinkystinky · 23/04/2013 09:13

Only half my last post posted! Here's the other half:

Sunday - DS1 was induced at 42 weeks, DS2 arrived at 38 weeks totally spontaneously and it was a quick labour and birth so hope it will be the same for you. We're off to Dorset and then legoland (for 2 days) over May half term when I'll be 34/35 weeks and my notes (in their water proof pack) will be coming with me too. Fortunately I wont be driving as I hate driving at the best of times. Sooo envious of your trip to the beach. Fancy swapping and sitting in an office (which doesnt even have an external window) for the day, drafting shareholder agreements? No? Strange that...

Also, anyone on the look out for a bargain steriliser, Amazon have the Avent microwave steriliser on sale for £12. I'm getting it for use for breast shells and dummies/pump bits if needed, and then for use with bottles when I return to work.

NotprincessKate - good luck for your MW appointment today - hope it goes well and you do indeed get to keep cooking your little one for as long as you'd like. Doing a photography course sounds like a great idea! Never been on one but would love to do one at some point.

Quinandthem · 23/04/2013 09:22

(tried posting this yesterday but it failed)

Glad little Oliver is fighting - everyday he will be getting stronger

I feel for everyone in the pregnancy wars.

On Saturday morning I managed to trip over on completely flat ground! Managed to land on my forearm/elbow and knee so don?t think bump touched the ground. But we then had a really busy weekend including going out for dinner with friends and our first NCT sale. And it wasn?t till Sunday lunchtime that I realised that I hadn?t really felt bump move that much ? normally only feel it when still i.e. in bed or after dinner since my placenta is at the front.

So I went to the drop-in midwife this morning for a check-up, she listened to HB and all was well but she wanted me to go to the maternity day assessment unit to have a proper monitor.

Anyway, off I went and they were so nice, didn?t feel like I was bothering them at all. So after 20 mins on the HB monitor all is well.

They said they would rather see us if we have any concerns.

I really dont want to go late (and need to be induced), but presume I will since it's my first.

IcingTheCake · 23/04/2013 09:35

quin i am so glad everything is okay! Definitely agree its best to get checked and everything is fine than the other way around x

I hadnt been getting any proper bump pains until just now i sat with my feet up, sort of curled up and got a massive shooting pain down the left side of my bump Confused i moved my legs and it eased off but a bit Hmm as to why its happened at all, anyone else had this?

dinkystinky · 23/04/2013 09:37

Quin - I posted on the last thread about my pregnancy clumsiness (managed to pour soup down myself on more than one occasion now...) so dont worry, its really common. Glad you and the baby are both ok and hope your bruises fade soon.

Icing - is it all the way down your left side of your bump or more near the bottom? It could be nerve pain, caused by how you were sitting, or the baby simply letting you know it didnt like the position. If more near your bum, might be linked to your sciatica.

IcingTheCake · 23/04/2013 09:45

It was the top 2/3, really strange pain, probably just baby protesting, wouldnt be surprised at her kicking up a fuss if shes anything like me haha
