Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Shelley - you must be shattered after a sleepless night. Can you get a nap in before your friends arrive or if you're meant to be going out for the day, arrange to all meet at home and send dh and kids to get some stuff for a home picnic - so you can rest as much as possible? I am sure your friends would understand any change in plam as its you guys they want to see. In any event, try lots of lying on your left side and keep your fluids up.

shelley72 · 21/04/2013 08:05

spotting has returned Sad. have been back to bed for a bit, but no more sleep and no movement as yet. if things continue, i think DH may be going out on his own. in any case my mat notes are coming with me today and tomorrow is definitely a day to rest. just about to order a spare car seat to put in my mums - just in case. the more i am prepared the less likely it is i will need it all. thats my theory anyway...

dinkystinky · 21/04/2013 08:09

OK - call labour ward Shelley for their thoughts. Tell them no movement last night and spotting has returned. I suspect they will want you back in for monitoring which will hopefully reassure all that all is OK.

photographerlady · 21/04/2013 08:11

Morning ladies. Have a question. Has anyone had their GTT bloods done? How long does it take and do you know if I have to wait at hospital or if I can go home and come back?

photographerlady · 21/04/2013 08:13

Aww shelly sorry to hear about your night? Did you get a chance to ring the midwives? Take care of yoursf dear xx

dinkystinky · 21/04/2013 08:18

I had mine done photographer - they say up to 2 hrs but really should be done in 1 hr 15 mins - don't eat before, chug sugar drink within 5 mins, record the time you finished it and get bloods done an hour later. They want you to stay put (as no food beforehand can make you a fainting risk).

Grannyapple · 21/04/2013 08:20

shelley-call your mw or go to maternity assessment unit!

photographer I've got mine this coming Wednesday & my understanding is that you need to stay in the path lab/phlebotomy unit ( or wherever they have you do the test in the hospital)...pain I know as appt is 2 hrs..I'm taking my work laptop (new system I work tomorrow so lots of adjusting for me to do) & will take a Marian Keyes book that I got for Xmas but haven't actually got very far with!

Does anyone know if the results are instant or if they go back to docs for you to get the results?

dinkystinky · 21/04/2013 08:23

Granny - had mine on a Tuesday, was told would call on Friday if an issue. No call so will get results at next mW appt at 34 weeks. May differ from trust to trust though.

SlouchingPanda · 21/04/2013 08:34

Shelley sorry to hear you've been having a worrying time. If you still haven't had any movements, please do call your maternity unit. Thinking of you today - let us know how you are.

In my trust, results are back in a few days. If raised, you get a call from a specialist MW. If you don't hear, it means they're normal, but I would ask your MW next appt to double check.

Beautiful day again here so I should probably get out of bed

28+3

shelley72 · 21/04/2013 08:53

thank you all. they didnt seem overly concerned about the spotting - only if it changes (going bright red) or if my waters go (not that i would know if they had i think!). i think that i am feeling hiccups down there though and have been eating and drinking a lot so im hoping that has woken baby up. any more changes and i will phone them again. they probably have me down as a problem patient already and whilst i really dont want to waste anyones time i would rather be safe and all that.

my GTT took a couple of hours from start to finish and i had to wait in the antenatal dept - i took a book to read but luckily bumped into someone i knew there so that did pass the time a bit. another lady did faint so thats probably why you have to stay put! make sure you take some food for as soon as you're done. they said that you will get a call next day i they find anything and if you dont hear you're to assume that everythings ok.

i have just had a mad half hour ordering stuff online - wouldnt be surprised if the credit card company ring in a bit to ask what on earths going on!

VinegarDrinker · 21/04/2013 09:02

Re movements, shelley and others the current guidelines if you are not sure baby is moving enough (from 28 weeks) are to lie on your left side in a quiet room with no distractions (ie no TV) for 2 hours. If less than 10 movements in that time then to contact Labour Ward/your MW.

PhieEl06 · 21/04/2013 09:13

Morning all, shelley sorry to hear you've been worrying, I hope you have some improvement today.
For those not part of our secret Facebook group, I felt very strange yesterday, very breathless, lightheaded & palpitations, I feel much better today after a sleep so I think I must of over done it yesterday with the massive spring clean I did.

Also back to expensive changing bag links from before I am trying to convince OH to buy me one for my birthday in June... We'll have to see. Smile

Runswithsquirrels · 21/04/2013 10:22

Anyone else watching the marathon? So jealous! I did it two years ago and couldn't walk for two days. Can you imagine trying to carry baby bump 26 miles? I struggle getting up stairs!

Shelley second advice about lying on side - try drinking something cold too.

Phie glad you are feeling better. I get very breathless at the silliest of things!

IcingOnTheNappyCake · 21/04/2013 10:26

My GTT was completely different to you guys Blush i was told my appointment was at 9am and to start drinking the lucozade at 6:50 and finish by 7, no other foods and drink except water then when i got to hosp they just took blood and was done Smile Strangee haha

shelley i hope everything is okay, do make sure you take it easy, as you say better safe then sorry, even if you go out let everyone else run around after the kids and make sure you have plenty to drink x

Beginningofthejourney · 21/04/2013 10:31

In my head runs I would love to run a marathon but in reality I don't think I ever could. I did the breast cancer moon walk a few years ago and it took forever!
shelley hope you get to chill out a bit today and all ok.
I also got some baby bits yesterday, my goddaughter parents seem to find something to pass on every time I visit, yesterday i got an unused breast pump, a bottle warmer and some other bits. This is a second hand baby, and if its a girl then they said I have loads of clothes to come :-)
Hope baby Oliver has had a good weekend? X
28+4!! (Going quick!)

dinkystinky · 21/04/2013 11:26

I am seriously in awe of anyone that does the marathon - my cut off point for running is 8k! No idea how anyone runs 26 miles!

Shelley - you are not a problem patient. Its really important to get stuff checked out if there is any doubt/concern at all and really important that you are reassured.

Shiv posted on FB late last night - looks like Oliver had a good day and is off the ventilator (breathing by himself) and also being weaned off the morphine, so he's continuing to do brilliantly. Hopefully she'll pop on here at some point to update you all herself.

VinegarDrinker · 21/04/2013 11:30

Thanks for the Oliver update dinky

I couldn't run for a bus let alone a marathon! DH is talking about doing the Royal Parks Half in October, makes me shudder to think about. Give me a bike or long distance walking though and I'm in! (Although I prefer the minimum number of people around as possible so not interested in races/events etc).

TotallyEggFlipped · 21/04/2013 11:42

Great news about Oliver! Thanks for the update, dinky

I'm at work today. Just catching up on MN and the marathon whilst taking a sneaky break. I really miss running. I'd love to do another marathon some time, but the training takes up so much time. I stopped running 3 weeks ago and feel a bit sad and envious every time I spot someone out running, especially now the weather has improved.

Shelley it's better to call for advice or get checked out if you have any concerns. Don't worry about being a 'problem patient'!

AmaDablam · 21/04/2013 11:50

Sorry to hear you've had a difficult 24 hours Shelley. Hopefully some rest will do the trick, the spotting will stop and those movements will get more definite.

It seems very minor in comparison but I've just got back from the out of hours GP who I had to see for suspected UTI. Dip test actually showed up clear, and symptoms are easing off so just got to pop a sample into the surgery in the morning to send off to the lab as a precaution. Also had increased discharge over the past few days which the nurse I spoke to on the phone sounded quite concerned about. GP was not in the least bit worried though and said it'll just be hormonal or possibly a mild case of thrush.

Really good news about little Oliver - will pop onto FB in a mo and have a look at Shiv's latest post.

27 weeks today

Runswithsquirrels · 21/04/2013 13:07

Totally I get so jealous seeing runners too! I stopped early on as I had no energy but manage the tiniest bit on a treadmill about once a week.

Calmisthemantra · 21/04/2013 14:52

My GTT was really different. Had to eat a very precise breakfast of exactly 75somethings of carbohydrates. So had a list to pick and choose from. Went with special K with fresh berries & milk, orange juice and toast with jam. Then EXACTLY 2 hours later I had to have blood taken. Was having a stress as the midwife was running late and there was no one I could speak to (to tell her the importance) Luckily I predicted this and had the brekkie 10mins late so hopefully it worked out ok. They only contact me if there's an issue so fx.

On another note. We had a fun evening last night- I fell over the stair gate, bashed my bump on it and broke a toe! Had to go to maternity dept to get baby monitored and the anti D injection early, didn't bother with an X-ray (&mega wait in a&e) as they don't do anything for broken toes! . All fine though. Phew

photographerlady · 21/04/2013 18:47

calm ouch sorry about your accident.

We a need to wrap in cotton wool ladies too many hospital visits this week.

photographerlady · 21/04/2013 19:55

Sorry to be a pest but anyone know what part of the hospital the GTT will probably be in?

dinkystinky · 21/04/2013 20:05

It was in the antenatal clinic when I did it but clearly varies from place to place.

Calm - ouch poor you. I hope you don't feel battered and bruised for too long.

Ama hope you are OK - lots of discharge by itself is common at this stage but if smelly, discoloured, bloody or accompanied by discomfort please get checked out.

Runswithsquirrels · 21/04/2013 20:08

My GTT was in the blood department although I was allow to sit upstairs in the cafe for my two hour wait.
