So much catching up to do here! Congratulations to all those who have had scans and sorry to hear some sad news too.

After some more spotting last weekend I went to the EPU where they said there were definitely no scan appointments left until I cried and was scanned within 2 minutes. Baby was measuring 10+2 at 10 weeks so feeling a lot happier this week. People have started to ask if I'm pregnant too which I think is a little rude. I could just be fat!

Scan appointment isn't until 13+3 which I think is pushing it for nuchal screening but the appointment woman said that it isn't a problem. Got consultant appointment too for high risk delivery. Seems that things are starting to happen! Still not fully relaxed about things but probably never will be.

Will keep my fingers crossed for all those waiting for news.

Mistyshore · 19/04/2013 16:47

Hello everyone, I've been reading but you're all so chatty I don't seem to be able to catch up to join in Smile

So sorry for the ladies who've had to leave us and sticky vibes going to everyone having a worrying time Flowers

I had my scan and they've pushed me to 29th October, I was 12 days over with ds though so I'm staying put here on the November thread ( I fear change Grin )

I had a bit of wobble as I walked into the maternity unit for my scan and my eyes started leaking a bit. I had a bit of a rough time with ds's birth and it all came rushing back. I had a lovely midwife and my worries have disappeared. She's put me as low risk and told me a couple stories about lovely births after forceps. She mentioned a glucose tolerance test because of my BMI- does anyone know when you have that?

Huge post Blush

honey86 · 19/04/2013 16:52

misty i had the glucose test at about 28-29 weeks, same this time cos of family history of diabetes. i dunno whats worse, fasting for it or drinking that sugary drink Confused

congrats worriedmouse that's great news. congrats also to everyone else with positive news. sorry for those who're having to deal with bad news.

My scan will also be at 13 weeks & isn't till 14th May, which is an age away. I'm eating way too much at the moment & only fancy junk food. so much for going through this pg looking svelte.

honey86 · 19/04/2013 16:59

also hun, ive had forceps twice and a ventouse so im totally understanding there... but thats purely cos i have a narrow tiny pelvis so they get stuck. but i know so many that have had forceps then have had quick easy labours. each birth is different. id say just make sure you eat and drink, use the toilet frequently ( a full bladder can make it a pain for baby to move down in labour) and try and move about. youll be fine xx

Ugh the GTT, not looking forward to that. I felt like I was dying when I had it, going that long without food. I was a blubbing mess on the way home from it because I'd forgotten my purse and couldn't get food until I'd got home. Grin

I have to have it because my mother is diabetic. I was so tempted to leave her medical history off my notes this time to avoid the test, but my rational side won >: (

Mistyshore · 19/04/2013 17:26

You have to go without food? Don't they know we're pregnant?! Grin

No GTT for me. Already injecting insulin after finger prick testing for a week before. It's a pain in the arse but a necessary evil. GD is not something to piss about with as you just don't know what will happen. That's what caused my still birth at 37 weeks and then I got it again last time and she was born at 34 weeks after starting inducement at 33+.

A relatively short test is well worth doing, I wouldn't wish what happened to me on anyone. It was and is still incredibly painful and I will never be the same again. Knowing you have to give birth to your dead baby and then bury them isn't much fun. Sadly I went undiagnosed and the price I paid for my hospital ignoring me was the loss of my daughter.

Sorry for the downer but I always have to put across how important it is not to ignore the GTT or any symptoms. Not suggesting anyone is doing that though. Sorry for the ramble but you would not want to be in my position.

getoffthecoffeetable · 19/04/2013 18:55

Oh cheese my heart goes out to you. You're right, nobody should have to go through that.

harverina · 19/04/2013 18:57

Cheese that must have been horrendous Hmm

Great news on the scans today that's super. And honey we are no longer due date buddies!!! My scan is on Tuesday though so my due date may change!

I have been extremely extravagant tonight...plan was that dd and I would go to McDonald's for dinner on way to airport to pick up dh however dd's childminder took the kids to mcd's as a treat so my plan of an easy dinner was ruined! Dd wanted tuna pasta so I snuck into the Chinese takeaway on way home and got myself a beef chow mein which I have wanted for WEEKS! So it's currently sitting waiting for me while I struggle with nausea a bit. How extravagant is that having a takeaway on my own ha! Blush

Still feeling ok- nausea and I digestion hit me about tonight but its not awful. Cannot wait for dh to come home tonight - I will sleep like a log after 4 nights rubbish sleep yay!

It was a beautiful day here. Had such a busy day at work but was out and about in the sunshine lots which made up for all my rushing around Grin

Hope you are all having a great Friday Grin

KirjavaTheCat · 19/04/2013 18:58

So sorry Cheese, what an awful thing to happen Sad didn't mean to be insensitive.

You're right, it's very small in comparison to what could happen. Puts things into perspective somewhat.

(Icing name change btw)

Fairydogmother · 19/04/2013 18:59

Cheese that's v sad x

Mistyshore · 19/04/2013 19:04

What symptoms should I look out for Cheese ?

Don't apologise for trying to prevent someone going through the time you had. I have a sister who was born asleep and I'd move heaven and earth to prevent the pain my mum (and the rest of us) went through.

CheeseandGherkins · 19/04/2013 19:26

It's ok, I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable or anything. I just had to stress how important it is.

misty for me I always had sugar in my urine and I felt really wrong. I now know what was the feeling of high blood sugar...I had reduced movements a few times and went in only to be told (after waiting for hours to be seen) that everything was fine and I was made to feel like a nuisance and stupid. I also had high fluid levels which were over the cut off line but they said it was fine as it wasn't much over. Definitely listen to your instincts and don't take no for an answer if you think anything is wrong at all.

I have to inject before meals and test 1 hour after eating but also wheni feel the need to test my sugars. I can definitely feel when I'm high. If you're at risk of GD then I'd try and cut down on sweets etc but carb heavy food can cause problems if you do have it. I wouldn't worry unnecessarily about it but just be aware. A lot of women are diet controlled and don't need insulin and I know it's rare to get it as early as I have too. It's usually later on when problems can arise.

harverina · 19/04/2013 19:49

Gosh carbs and surgery foods are things a crave too, although this did pass last time. I guess with e being overweight I will be at increased risk too although no one in my family has diabetes.

My dinner was amazing! Just what I needed mmmmm Grin

CheeseandGherkins · 19/04/2013 20:07

I wasn't even high risk. On the slim side, no family history etc. Only thing is pcos. All I crave is chocolate right now...typical. Ah well. Ill stuff myself with cake afterwards Grin. I usually eat pretty much what I want so I can live with a few months of it. My luck I'll end up with it staying after I have the baby this time.

I'm sure I can feel some flutters btw, 10 weeks tomorrow. Definitely not wind!

Mistyshore · 19/04/2013 20:20

We've got a takeaway curry on order! Sugar? Salt? Carbs? Does saag alhoo count towards my veg count Wink.

12 + 3 today so clinging on to the hope of a second trimester bloom rather than the constant nausea.

I can't remember when I felt ds move, but have any second (or third, fourth, fifth or sixth) timers felt early movement. Baby was really jumping about on my scan which surprised me (you'd think I'd know as a 2nd timer doh) and I can feel flutterings. I'm sure it's much earlier than last time.

Mistyshore · 19/04/2013 20:23

Crossed post cheese as I was putting ds to bed! Yay to the flutters!

CheeseandGherkins · 19/04/2013 20:30

This is my 6th so maybe that's why! I love salt and carbs mmm. I had a small portion of chips tonight as two of mine had swimming lessons and no time to cook. I only ate a few after the ten minutes it took to inject...really have to psych myself up, but they were nice with salt and onion vinegar. I usually have something with veg though so it's not too bad. I miss wine!

MsFanackerPants · 19/04/2013 20:57

More good scan news, how lovely for everybody am not at all jealous I don't have a date yet, grrr

Slight panic this evening when I went to the loo, wiped and saw fresh blood. Oh thank god for my tiny haemorrhoid! My heart is still racing though.

Night in on my own, so making some delicious cream of celery soup. My mum's coming tomorrow to help with packing. I'm so excited to see her, not seen her since I found out I was pregnant. Oh and bra measuring was wrong -ish yesterday, I am a 38H, so up a band size and a cup size. Not too terrifying

TiredFeet · 19/04/2013 22:04

Oh cheese I am so sorry to read that. No I understand why my mum (a diabetes specialist nurse) gets so upset by the fact midwives don't just routinely test everyone. I have heard of other people where the diagnosis was missed but I didn't realise the consequences could be so devastating

harverina · 19/04/2013 22:37

I am sure I am getting flutterings too - this is baby number 2 for me. I didn't feel anything until really late first time - I'm sure about 19/20 weeks but this time I feel wee flutters in the bottom left side of my tummy. It's normally always at the same place. It certainly doesn't feel like wind but who knows, as I have had a LOT of wind Blush poor dh.

Just home from airport and literally walked in and straight to bed. Dh is putting dd to bed. She is absolutely exhausted being up so late. I like to think that she will have a nice long lie to make up for being on bed so late but it never works our like that!! It always seems to be the later to bed the earlier the wakening Shock

For those having dc 2 (or 3,4,5,6) when are you feeling dc? We have decided to tell dd after the 12 week scan all going well. She is at an age where she jumps on us quite a lot and loves a carry on and we feel if she knew why she had to be more gentle then it would help. My dd is only 3 though so worried about telling her so early too. What do you guys think? My ds is obsessed with babies and I think she will be delighted with the news (although not sure she will get it properly!)

MummaPanda · 19/04/2013 22:44

We have already told dd all about her hopefully little brother, but she's only 5 months so don't think she will be telling anyone Grin

harverina · 19/04/2013 22:52

Haha mumma that made me laugh!

I was so emotional at the airport tonight seeing people reunited! One couple stood and held each other for ages and I could have sobbed. I don't even know these people and was probably staring at them like an idiot Blush they probably though I was a weirdo!!!!
