Welcome back oh graduated elderberries. Let us discuss the delights of being over-30 first-timers with google obsessions Grin

hazle I think the 'badness' of the crumble is more than made up for by the 'goodness' of the rhubarb. Plus if it's homemade there are no real 'baddies' in it anyway, just a bit of sugar and butter. Oh lordy, I'm going to be making a crumble tonight, aren't i?!

purple - how is the itching now btw? Is the medicine helping at all? have they got to the bottom of what it was?

BraveLilBear · 17/04/2013 13:01

Mmmmm did someone say crumble?!

Crumble and custard is my favourite. Quite liked it before, but have had the odd craving for it.

Oh god I'm going to have to buy some on the way home now!

I don't know about that theory Janey tho pickled onions are totally yum Smile I'm mainly craving sweet tasting things, so fruit and veg. Preferring sweets (especially chewy, jelly type berry flavour ones) over chocolate, and have gone off dark chocolate (used to be a monster for it) in favour of milk chocolate (which I used to hate).

Read an interesting theory that related to the weight of your OH and the sex of the baby yesterday - apparently in a scientificy study in Sweden, 100% of the men who had daughters put on weight during the pregnancy. But only 2% of those who had boys did.

I've not shared this with OH, as by that theory, it's a girl Grin

rhubarb crumble is best when made with brown sugar. And served with vanilla ice cream. just saying..

yes purple, aren't you still waiting for some test results?

HazleNutt · 17/04/2013 13:04

Brave that's an interesting theory and certainly works in our case - DH is one of those annoying people who can (and does) eat like a horse, and never puts on any weight. Hmm

Cavort · 17/04/2013 13:50

It's sweet stuff all the way for me at the moment and a crumble sounds lurvely! My latest desire is for Muller Fruit Corners. I hadn't had one for years before getting pregnant but now I need at least one a day. I suppose it's not the worst thing in the world to crave, although I am still getting through the sweets and chocolate as well. Blush

Both DH and I have acknowledged that we aren't too far off needing to sleep in separate beds until the birth but I don't think either of us wants to leave our lovely comfy king size for a temporary single bed. It will be a battle of wills to see who cracks first. Grin I would say I get first dibs on the double being pregnant, but DH does work very long hours at the moment (he left yesterday at 7am and got in at 10pm, same again today) and so needs a good nights sleep. We might have to toss a coin.

I think you acted perfectly reasonably on The Tube Janey. People are just inconsiderate tossers sometimes.

And I do hope you aren't still itching like a tramp's vest Purple.

Alexandra6 · 17/04/2013 15:52

This thread makes me hungry. Meant to be working from home but is it bad if I take a break to make crumble?!

I can't stop eating cream crackers with cream cheese, I have scoffed about 15 triangles in two days.

By the OH/weight theory, we're def having a girl Wink although he works in media so I reckon it's more to do with all the media lunches - steak etc!

janey1234 · 17/04/2013 16:03

Ha, alex - that would mean we are too! For the first few months DP was growing a tum to match mine, although thankfully I've left him behind now.

BraveLilBear · 17/04/2013 17:14

Snap Janey and Alex! My tum has now outgrown his, and he's just started running again after a long break

I am officially starting maternity leave at 38+2 but taking 2 weeks leave first so i'll be off from 36+2. I was up for working longer but was talked out of it by recently pregnant friends who assured me I would feel like crap by that point. Hmm

If we still manage to go to Newquay for a week in May (dependent on DH's job, we may have to cancel due to his current high workload - boo!) it means I only have 25 working days left until I finish. Grin

Purplemonster · 17/04/2013 19:01

Yes that's right, I'm STILL waiting on tests results, have no idea if they're going to ring me or what, seeing midwife on 29th for them to take more blood to test again so will ask then. The itching is still most definitely there, it's unpleasant but seems to be more manageable since the drugs, certainly not a miracle cure but enough to let me sleep through it so I'm grateful. Feel slightly sorry for the people who have to sit looking at me scratching away at my desk all day like a mangy flea ridden dog, bet it makes them itch too.

My OH was a chunky monkey anyway so I'm not sure if he's got fatter or not, you'd think he was pregnant though the amount of ice cream he's getting through.

I've booked my maternity leave to start at 38 weeks Bear but since they might induce me as early as 36 -38 weeks depending on my bloods that could be subject to change!

Purplemonster · 17/04/2013 19:08

Oh I had the PGP clinic today as well, biggest waste of time ever, was utter crap and I had I to walk bloody miles to get to it because our local hospital has chronic parking problems so it actually made my hips hurt just getting to it!

HazleNutt · 17/04/2013 20:03

I'll probably have this baby right at my desk Hmm
There's no official leave before birth, so I'll get a doctor's note if I'm not feeling up to it any more - realistically, that would simply mean that I'll work from home.

Cavort · 17/04/2013 20:51

Sad Angry Hazle

janey1234 · 17/04/2013 21:12

I was planning to work until 38 weeks too but to be honest I'm not sure I'll manage an hour on the tube twice a day in July heat. I'm starting to hate my commute already so heaven only knows what it will be like when I'm even huger (made up word? Who knows. Am losing my mind). So I think 36 weeks. Longer if I can stand it.

Poor you hazle. You could just mail your work round to us all to share out to take the pressure off - I'm pretty sure that I've demonstrated my high-flying lawyer-like capabilities with the excellent use of the word huger earlier... Blush

HazleNutt · 17/04/2013 22:08

Ah it's not that bad really - if it does get bad, the doc will happily give me the note and I'll work from the pool Grin

BraveLilBear · 18/04/2013 10:29

Grr at rubbish hospital parking making you feel worse Purple... and I hope you get those test results soon. As a matter of fact, you may well be making them feel itchy, recent research showed that people can 'catch' an itch if they see someone else itching, especially if the 'receiver' is prone to neurotic thinking Wink

This morning's news is brought to you be scary pelvic pain that's been going on for 16 hours - started with a dragging, slightly pulled feeling, now is achey with occasional stabby pains in the downstairs regions. Have taken the bus today and trying to rest it as much as possible in the hope that it just goes away...

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 18/04/2013 10:34

Ouch Brave. I guess nothing you can do except rest?

BraveLilBear · 18/04/2013 11:47

That's my first port of call Hazle Wink just taking it really easy today, got two buses all the way to work, rather than getting one part of the way or walking the whole hog (2miles) and will make sure I sit nice and straight with my knees together

It's not really sore, but it is quite niggly, and on the same side as night-time hip problems so hoping it's just temporary and not an indicator of PGP!

How are you today?

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 18/04/2013 12:12

Oh I'm fine, no problems - well, no pregnancy-related ones. Everybody keeps telling me about someone else they know who is pregnant and all the issues those people are having - by the sound of it, most people really seem to have a really miserable time when pregnant. So in comparison I should not really whine that I'm huge and have nothing to wear, as that's pretty much the only issue I have..

By the way, how far along is everybody now and when are you having your next appointments or scans?

30+6 here and will have a scan next Thursday. Where I will probably hear if the baby is big or massively big.

Purplemonster · 18/04/2013 12:21

I'm 29 weeks, we don't get any extra scans after 20 weeks here Hazle unless they think something needs monitoring. My bump is measuring small but JUST made the line that meant I didn't get referred for a growth scan. I'm in a race with you for the first Elderberry baby, you're due date is first but I could be induced any time from 36 weeks depending on how high risk my blood results are so we'll have to just wait and see!

Sorry you're aching Bear, put your feet up and lie on the sofa and get your OH to make you a cuppa when you get home.

BraveLilBear · 18/04/2013 12:27

Thanks Purple I will Grin - it dawned on me this morning that you have the totally unenviable position of being our resident expert on both PGP and OC Shock poor you! Hope your sense of humour at least is relatively unscathed so far!

I'm 26+3 here, next mw appt at 28 weeks on May 1. I'm likely to have another scan due to low placenta, but that's not confirmed yet - should be around 32-34 weeks.

EDD July 22.

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 18/04/2013 12:32

Yes, I have that unenviable postition tbh I'm sure there are things I could have that are a lot worse! As long as the baby is ok I'm still definitely keeping my sense of humour about it all. Just very mildly envious of and VERY impressed by Hazle's pregnancy superwoman status Grin

janey1234 · 18/04/2013 13:06

What a fab way of looking at it purple. Smile

I've got a scan booked in at 34 weeks due to BP/urine issues diagnosed by the consultant, but that's over 5 weeks away. Quite looking forward to having another little peek, but apparently it's much harder to see things than at 20 weeks as they just get body parts (rather than an actual baby) on the screen.

Think i've been incredibly lucky with a v.healthy pregnancy too. Couple of minor annoyances (BP/protein urine) but nothing too bad. Having said that feel like I need to vom with the heartburn today. Apparently you get it when the baby is growing hair - I think I'm going to be giving birth to a monkey!

Cavort · 18/04/2013 13:15

Sorry to hear you're in pain Brave. I hope taking it easy allows it to ease off a bit. Resting certainly makes my little bit of SPD better so FX your is the same.

I am 30+1 and next MW appointment is on the 29th. Like Purple said, I will also not be getting any more scans unless a problem crops up, which I'm assuming in my case might be that the awkward baby is not head down at 36 weeks.

I am off to an optional antenatal class this afternoon on writing a birth plan. So far my whole birth plan is, "remove baby from my body in a fast and pain-free manor," so hopefully I might have something more constructive to add after this afternoon. I've heard that some MW's don't even read them but seeing as work have to give me the time off I thought what the hell, I might as well do it.

BraveLilBear · 18/04/2013 14:11

Lol at image of baby being removed in a Downton Abbey style pain-free manor Grin

Don't worry about me - I'm just a bit uncomfortable. I promise to adopt Purple's admirable stance on not so mild misfortunes on this fun journey Grin
