I moved down from Scotland but hoping I can make close friendships with some of the Scottish-based people on the thread (hi Harverina) and move in with them!

williaminajetfighter · 04/04/2013 16:49

and Saundy you should be able to get SMP on top of what your company provides.

berrybomb · 04/04/2013 16:51

Oh no, people at work have started to guess!!

My colleague (and friend) just asked outright if I was pregnant! Eeeek.

My boss knows because I had to have some time off and didn't want to lie, but there's no way she would have told anyone, she's just plain guessed. It's probably because I've stopped going on the after work drinks every Friday!!

honey86 · 04/04/2013 16:53

its cool fairy, your on my wavelength Smile

were meeting up for the booking appt tomorrow, but im still going to want my space for a while yet.

Oh no Berry what did you say?!

It's a matter of time for me, I'd been sick twice before I'd even turned my computer on so it won't take a genius.

I hope so Will I suppose it's a while before we need to have that talk.

Good luck Honey maybe meet him first & clear the air so you can just enjoy the appt?

I'm not showing yet but do go into super bloat over drive after eating just the smallest thing which makes me really nervous re weight gain.

Is anyone going to any aquanatal type stuff yet?!

Theicingontop · 04/04/2013 17:07

So I'm all booked in properly, midwife took my blood pressure and stole my blood, weighed me and filled out my maternity NHS exemption form. All very straightforward.

Can I ask who's planning to get the whooping cough vaccine?

The posters of the tiny babies breastfeeding on the wall in her office made me melt. I'm going to have another one of those squishy little poo machines!!

We don't have any aquanatal classes her Saundy Sad, so I'm just going to make do with a swim once a week while OH plays with DS in the baby pool Grin

OneLittleToddleTerror · 04/04/2013 17:10

I'll be getting the whooping cough jab, if it's still offered later this year. I had the flu jab last time. I've already had one this year, so I guess we won't be offered another flu jab? They usually do it sep/oct time isn't it?

I do waterbabies with DD. Does that count? Grin

OneLittleToddleTerror · 04/04/2013 17:13

Btw, I did antenatal yoga last time, but not until really late? I think third trimester. They are generally not very active and I'm not that into yoga/pilates type of exercise normally. I prefer more energetic ones (like zumba). I might look into them again when I'm less mobile. I found the antenatal yoga really useful re preparing me for the birth. I used the breathing and visualisation in my labour.

Animol · 04/04/2013 18:08

Felt so well today I wondered if I was still pregnant - then went shopping and got so knackered I realised I am!
Ever since the last DC I've looked about 4 months pretty much permanently and any bump I've got now is definitely not LO.
Saw my doc yesterday and he said any exercise is good as long as you take it easy - not the time to 'go for the burn' etc.
I had whooping cough when I was a tiny baby - too young for the jab - was hell for my parents but I'm still here and hopefully immune.

getoffthecoffeetable · 04/04/2013 18:32

animol I had whooping cough when I was little too, I asked midwife if that made me immune but she says it doesn't and that it doesn't make you immune.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 04/04/2013 18:42

The whooping cough jab is given at last pregnancy so we can pass the immunity to the newborn. Otherwise they don't get it until 2mo when they get their first jab. The reason the NHS is stepping up with the immunisation of babies is because there is an epidemic happening at the moment. I wouldn't want to risk it on my newborn.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 04/04/2013 18:45

I don't know if you are already immune whether you will pass it on the child. Also immunity does decrease with time. For example tetanus I remember you have to get boosters. But most adults don't have problems with these diseases. It's the vulnerable that suffers, the young, the elderly and the sick. Just look at how many babies die in the third world Sad

DittyRatt · 04/04/2013 19:19

Evening everyone. Welcome to the newbies.

So sorry to hear of those with bad news. Hope your all okay.

Re: gender; I am going to find out the sex of the baby but I don't mind either way, I am planning on having a few more babies.

Re: maternity pay; I get 24wks at 90% then 24wks at 50% or SMP depending on which is higher, then you can also take an extra 12wks no pay. But you have to take a minimum of 24wks.

I have my booking in appointment tomorrow, was supposed to have it today but got a call from the midwife this morning asking to reschedule.

9+2?x

Dizzy81 · 04/04/2013 19:30

Had my booking in appointment today, straight forward and paperwork exercise..

Got to go to s diff hospital to have bloods taken - as this is my back up hospital and whilst falls under mt local pct it still wants me to go there for bloods and scans.

Animol · 04/04/2013 19:46

Hello getoffthetable oh! Thanks for that - i'd better look into it.

jen252 · 04/04/2013 19:50

Been a hectic week (8 weeks tomorrow!)... had booking in on Tuesday, had an epic battle getting my anti-sickness prescription sorted on Wednesday (midwife left a note for GPs, who ignored it, I got an attitude from receptionists when I called about it, finally spoke to the GP who was apologetic and wrote it up, then when dh went to pick it up, they made him wait so long he had to drive all over the place to find a pharmacy that was still open), and now waiting for it to take effect.

Starting to tell a few more people, which has been kinda fun. Still hard to really enjoy it all when I'm feeling so ragged from the ms, though.

jen252 · 04/04/2013 19:53

Oh, and if things keep up, I'm going to need to get a pair of wheelbarrows for my boobs. They started off stupidly big, and getting ridiculous now.

TiredFeet · 04/04/2013 20:07

Well after moaning about its absence, the sickness has finally arrived!! Feel bad now for moaning, you lot with sickness must have wanted to hit me!

Made it in to work today luckily and told my boss the news, in case I need to take time off like last time, also did as much tidying up of loose ends as possible, in case people need to take over my files. Hopefully I will be able to struggle on this time, but I would rather feel prepared.

Need to check what our maternity pay is, I work for a local authority but I don't think its a particularly generous package. (But they are great about flexible working so I will forgive them!)

stuffthenonsense · 04/04/2013 20:07

I normally do yoga in pregnancy, starting at 14 weeks but the class is an awkward time so I may not manage it these time.
My 'bump' is big, I'd lost six stone and my tummy was almost flat (after 5 big babies it never will be without surgery) and I have gained about 6cm on my waist.
I will not be having any vaccinations in pregnancy as whilst the government are pushing them they have not been tested on pregnant women, and never will be as it is unethical. Breast milk boosts babies immune systems, regardless of whether mum has immunity to whooping cough/flu or not, they just gain greater immunity for all diseases and are less likely to contract disease.

Fairydogmother · 04/04/2013 21:30

I'd thought of yoga too but I can't afford to join a gym and everywhere that seems to offer it wants a subscription. I'll keep looking tho.

I have the worst immune system ever! I get the flu jab every year anyway so that's done and will wait to see what else they want to discuss having.

Really have to get a hold on eating tho as my appetite has returned with a vengeance!

MotherOfCleo · 04/04/2013 21:34

Yay scan was fab! measured 9 weeks exactly, bean wasnt moving around but saw and heard the heart beating away Grin also got 6 pictures for free. Shame it looks like a blob Hmm You could see the shape of the head and nose though, body was a bit blobby as it wasnt moving and was at a funny angle. So nice to know therw is actually something in their! Grin

Theicingontop · 04/04/2013 21:39

I polished off five bags of cheese and onion walker's crisps and a whole packet of haribo today, fairydogmother. Those three pounds I've gained will be thirty if I carry on! To be fair though I have been craving those crisps for a week. oh what? that's no excuse? damn

I will be saying no to the vaccines too, stuff. I asked the midwife about the mercury levels in them, but she said they've taken the mercury out in order for them to be safe for pregnant women. I haven't looked into that yet, but if it was true I'd still feel uneasy about it :/

But then I am a massive conspiracy nut with an OFRS Blush

Fairydogmother · 04/04/2013 21:49

Fab news mother! We couldn't actually see much apart from a blob!

Lol icing I've had an extra sandwich after lunch plus a chocolate steamed pudding and a cookie Blush

TiredFeet · 04/04/2013 21:58

fairy try looking to see if there are nct ante natal yoga classes near you? I wanted to go in my last pregnancy but couldn't get to them, but might try this time.

wonderful motherofcleo Smile

all I can eat is toast and crisps now Envy Envy Envy. new colleague started at work today and think she thinks I have a very weird diet as ate about 3 packets at work today! worried she will be annoyed by the constant munching, but its that or vomit Envy

I am 7+1 now and still not had date for booking in with midwife. bit worried doctor I saw has messed it up! it seemed like it was her first day in the job...Hmm. when did / will most of you have booking in? I thought it was normally at about 8 weeks, but that would be next week! do you think they would be annoyed if I ring and check?

riverflow · 04/04/2013 22:00

Good to read what everyone elses maternity packages are mine averages at 75% for 6 months then SMP. Seems relatively average/good.

We have just done some sums and worked out that with the tax differences, working full time (plus full time nursery fees) and part time (plus part time nursery fees) is only gives me an extra £130 per month. Worth thinking about. DH is going to input it all into our magic spread sheet tomorrow to see if 6/9/12 months maternity leave is possible.

ps I am in Edinburgh too. (although from Norn Irn...said with a Norn Irn accent!).
