motherofnations what nice news, I have my fingers crossed so tightly for you and your DH and baby. Can you have both tests (really naive and not sure what they do properly) or are they just the same thing?

I'm so proud of myself today, just walked along the street and saw a Spanish woman with a bugaboo chameleon, stopped and asked where she got it from and ended up having a long conversation IN SPANISH!!! Alright, crap Spanish, but I can talk to mothers! I might not be so completely alone when I have mine!! I wanted to follow her and beg her to be my Mum friend but I might have been arrested kept my dignity! Feeling much less lonely now!

warlin if it was you who asked about libido I have lost mine completely. We have DTD 3 times since conception, the first time was ok but the last 2 have just felt uncomfortable and sore. I also hate the image of the little sperms swimming around the baby! I don't know why but it makes me feel really worried!! I feel really bad though, DH doesn't ever pressurise me but I know he likes it and he's done so much for me all the housework and cooking and even some of my lesson plans and marking while I've lain on the sofa complaining about my back that I just want to make him feel as loved! I know there are other ways but I'm just too bloody tired!

thethreeblondies · 09/04/2013 15:58

That's what I had with both my dd's hayle before they offered the nuchal scan element, it's still worth having it's just a bit later on in the pregnancy, you will get a similar "risk" factor x

Smitten1981 · 09/04/2013 16:00

I'm starting to feel sorry for DH as I slapped a ban on DTD 6 weeks ago when I got my UTI and since then I've had the crappy thrush and don't want to give it to him.

He hasn't said anything but he has been grumpy the past week or so! Poor thing.

MotherOfNations · 09/04/2013 16:11

roxvox and Umlauf I don't think there would be any benefit to having both ad they test for the same things. The miscarriage rate is double with the cvs so think I'll hold out for the amnio. I've made up my mind that I won't be terminating if it's Downs or Turner's anyway. I'll only terminate if it's one of the conditions that are incompatible with life. Dp won't be too happy but I'm past caring now.

roxvox · 09/04/2013 16:20

I see, thanks for explaining MoN. It was not aware that there was a risk with the CVS, as the only test I had heard of before was the amnio.

Haylebop glad it all went well! I wonder if a quad test is what they're doing with me too. Although baby was at the right angle etc, they did not measure the nuchal fold, but they did take blood afterwards and told me that I would need more bloods taken at 16 weeks and then they'll give me my results after that. I am going to quiz the MW about it next week anyway though.

OrangeBlossom2 · 09/04/2013 16:28

MoN, great news that the fluid has reduced in size. Are you offered some form of counselling on the NHS? I am sure I read something about it being offered after these sorts of tests bring anything up. To help you decide what is best for you, an earlier but more risky test or a later but slightly safer one. I don't know how you are managing to stay so calm and rational, I really admire you. Just as you thought you had made a decision, things change and you have to start all the agonising again. I am so glad you were able to bring a friend with you today.

Hayle I was reading about the quad test this morning on the what to expect website. It is a blood test for four different indicators in the blood, including HGG and some other things I can't remember that gives you a risk factor. It is not as reliable as the nt measurement combined with blood test, but it is what is routinely used in Scotland (i think) where nt testing not done on nhs, or where a measurement can't be taken, as in your case. It is much better than the triple test where only 3 things in the blood are tested. I will see if I can find the link again.

For those asking about hearing the heartbeat at MW appointments, from my experience, they first use the Doppler at the 16 week appointment. For me that's this Monday (I'll be 16+2).... Not sure how it will work out trying to differentiate the heart beats of two babies....!?

MumWithCamera · 09/04/2013 16:33

hayle this is what happened to me yesterday - baby in wrong position so they couldn't do nuchal measurement. Said I would have to wait for quad test at 16 weeks. I didn't want to wait until 16 weeks and despite asking to come again for 12 week test/wait in waiting room for a few hours etc, they said it's one appointment per person no flexibility, so you have to wait till 16 weeks.

So I chose to go private and got scan and measurement done a few hours later - results coming by post thursday. It did cost £200 though [shocked] but that was worth it for peace of mind for me, especially as I'm in my late 30s.

Haylebop12 · 09/04/2013 16:37

Thanks orange, ill have a mooch of that later.

The screening is really for dh as I'm not really
Fussed tbh. I'm 25 and don't have any genetic problems running in either family so for me paying £200 isn't an option. I'm
Happy to have the quad test.

SeriousStuff · 09/04/2013 16:38

MoN Great news about the decreased levels.

Had my second 12 weeks scan today (at 13+3) and they said they didn't understand why I was called back! Anyway, I finally feel I can share the picture of our gorgeous growing baby with you. He/she was on its stomach the whole time, but was moving around quite a bit and we got a great shot of the bottom of its feet.

This is the 5th scan picture I have, and the first time I've really felt excited about it and feel I have a connection to it!

SeriousStuff · 09/04/2013 16:40

...I hope the pic worked! You can even see the stomach!

OrangeBlossom2 · 09/04/2013 16:41

I can't see it seriousstuff, is your profile set to private?

OrangeBlossom2 · 09/04/2013 16:41

Ps congratulations!

Natalieand · 09/04/2013 16:45

serious I can't click on your name Hun xxx

OrangeBlossom2 · 09/04/2013 16:47

I went to the dentist today for my free check up. All looking clean and healthy, phew! I was expecting to have ruined my teeth by not brushing in the evenings I felt really sick, snacking all the time and drinking gallons of orange juice.

I asked whether I could use hydrogen peroxide mouthwash when I get throat infections (she didn't know and the label just says ask your dentist or doctor, we decided best to avoid). She was also pregnant though and said she was avoiding all chemicals, even ordinary mouthwash, which I thought was interesting. I hadn't even considered mouthwash being a no-no. I don't usually bother with it anyway but did this morning to try to make myself nice and clean for the dentist! Silly me. I will just stick to toothpaste from now on.

Warlin · 09/04/2013 16:47

MoN sorry we cross posted earlier...that looks really promising that the fluid has decreased. Still keeping everything crossed but at least the more info you have enables you to make the right choices for your family. Hope Dp supports your decision...it's bound to be so much easier to make rash decisions when you dont have the baby inside you.

Glad I'm not the only one fighting off DH's advances!

Haylebop12 · 09/04/2013 16:55

I have also uploaded y pic. I've turned it so
It's the right way up hehe!

roxvox · 09/04/2013 16:56

I have got the dentist tomorrow morning. I completely forgot that I am supposed to get it for free now I am preggers... I take it I need that blasted NHS form that I am yet to get to prove I am pregnant? Ah well, it's not too expensive anyway.

Orangeblossom I have been using mouthwash too (listerine zero) as I know tooth hygeine is important especially in pregnancy. I will have to quiz my dentist tomorrow as well then!

OrangeBlossom2 · 09/04/2013 16:58

Lovely Hayle. You can see the bones growing nicely.
Scans seem to be really clear these days.

Haylebop12 · 09/04/2013 17:00

The other pic it's really arching its back, looks very awkward!

SeriousStuff · 09/04/2013 17:00

Hmmm, this is really annoying - will have a play!

OrangeBlossom2 · 09/04/2013 17:01

Roxvox, she didn't say definitely don't use mouthwash, but that she wasn't using it just in case and was going for the natural, no chemicals approach which suits me well so I will do the same. We have a dentist on this bus, Rachel I think?

SeriousStuff · 09/04/2013 17:02

Right, I have made it visible to all mumsnetters - any joy?

OrangeBlossom2 · 09/04/2013 17:03

No sorry I still can't click on your name. Is your whole profile visible?
