I couldn't afford the NCT classes when I had dd so just went to the NHS ones which were fab. I did go along to bumps and babies which is NCT run later on to make more mummy friends (they used to be in pizza express and you got a free coffee not sure if that us the case now!)

I don't watch OBEM but might start. I have been watching all the BBC 3 baby programmes, the baby bomb and don't just stand there I'm having your baby. But trashy but addictive!

I have Kung po chicken for dinner, that and mangoes are my craving

Iheartcrunchiebars · 06/04/2013 18:01

We don't have nct classes or nhs classes where I live. It feels a bit Wierd that i will go into labour only having read stuff off the Internet. Can everyone keep me up to date with what they learn?

Damn you roofio. I've got fajitas for teas but now all I want I'd ham, pineapple and olive pizza!!!

roofio87 · 06/04/2013 18:09

Haha iheart sorry to pass my cravings on to you!! I'm going out for tea now so have made dp promise we can have pizza tomorrow!!!

Haylebop12 · 06/04/2013 18:16

iheart I didn't go to any classes with dd as dh and I were living fr apart and I didn't wanna go on my own. Only knew what I read, which wasn't a lot. Suppose I was a little naive and young but I thought the midwives know what they're doing so lets just get on with it. I'm not really a control freak type and happy to go with he flow :-)

Iheartcrunchiebars · 06/04/2013 18:33

I'm glad I'm not the only one hayle. Maybe ignorance is bliss!

Haylebop12 · 06/04/2013 18:46

That was kinda my motto iheart and one if the reasons I think I had such a fab labour. I Didn't panic because I wasn't 100% on wht to expect anyway. If I'd wrote a plan and it wasn't stuck to I think it would cause unnecessary stress. If anything were to happen I trust the midwives. That's what they're there for. That's just my opinion anyway!

pinksky · 06/04/2013 18:46

Hi all, so pleased for your good scan Pseudobadger Smile

We're doing NCT, although I think it's a rip off. I'm sure DH will really benefit from it and feel more confident and involved as a result, which might be particularly useful for a home birth. I hate group stuff/forced participation though, and worried I'll feel forced to be friends immediately with everyone, or there'll be some weird playground dynamics. I'm also hoping to do other antenatal things (natal hypnotherapy or yoga) so hope I might meet people more easily that way.

Ha, pizza for us too tonight! Though not as exciting as pineapple and olive .. Enjoy your dinners/evenings all

Salad here, pub lunch so light dinner.

Friend has invited me and some of the girls round tonight. As I'm feeling slightly human today I'm making the most of it and popping out for a couple hours. Leaving dh to put dd to bed and put together a chest of drawers Grin

OrangeBlossom2 · 06/04/2013 19:04

Juniper, I haven't had an asthma attack since I was 5 and it is really mild so it doesn't seem necessary for me, but you are right that it is good that they are there for people who do need it. I haven't had great experiences in hospital so would like labour to be as un-hospital like as possible.

Soupqueen I too have booked nct classes. There are some less than a mile from my house so hopefully a place to meet some local mums. They did seem a bit expensive but you have to pay for the ones at the hospital anyway so there is no free alternative (although they for a one evening class for a £10 donation for anyone not going to any other classes). My sister met up with the people from her group every week until she went back to work and found them a good support group. As others have said, I am not convinced if I will learn much that I couldn't find out elsewhere but you never know. I am pretty clueless about breast feeding at the moment s looking forward to that class and am intrigued about what the woman only session will be about.

Natalieand · 06/04/2013 19:08

Me and dh won't be doing any kind of ante natal classes we didn't with dd either its not really our scene plus I worked on a maternity unit briefly so I no what I need to no, plus I've done it before now lol.

Possibly Chinese here for dinner waiting for dh nan to arrive to see what she can idea xx

PseudoBadger · 06/04/2013 19:33

Hopefully my scan pic is on my profile now - it's so much better than ds's scan pic!

Natalieand · 06/04/2013 19:37

Oooo I see a baby badger lovely and clear xxx

PseudoBadger · 06/04/2013 19:43

He/she was waving at us, we could see the fingers moving and everything! So amazing!

ananikifo · 06/04/2013 19:53

Hi, everyone! It's been a while since I last posted. Lots to catch up with.

Congrats to everyone who had scans this week. What a busy week.

Wicked, I'll be thinking of you and hoping you get good news at 20 weeks.

I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. It's boring, sitting on the sofa drinking water! I want my scan, and I want it to show a healthy wiggly baby, and then I want to tell everyone in the world.

I'm also desperate to shop for the baby. I've been looking at baby clothes on eBay (can?t believe what some people think their used baby grows are worth!) and reusable nappies (I really like the look of gnappies).

I want to take NCT classes, too. I'm so glad to see others are signing up. I didn't know if it was too early and they would think I'm too keen. I'm sure by that time I'll have read all there is to know but I want the social experience and I think it would help dh, too. I've been watching tons of OBEM on Netflix and 4od and also a few birthing videos on YouTube. A friend on Pinterest is really into birthing and wants to be a doula, and her pins are very interesting to me at the moment.

pinksky · 06/04/2013 20:45

Hi ananikifo, nice to see you!

Oh hello baby badger! Brilliant scan Smile

Haylebop12 · 06/04/2013 21:21

Ooh I do want to learn lots about breast feeding mind. I didn't with dd but definitely want to give it a shot this time :-)

moonblues · 06/04/2013 21:24

Great scan pic badger there's definitely a baby in there!

First time round I couldn't really justify the cost of NCT classes and felt that the way labour would go was mostly up to the baby rather than my birth plan, but also didn't know anyone who had babies. So I emailed the local NCT co-ordinator and asked if she could put me in touch with other women who were due around the same time as me. Ended up meeting up with a lovely group of mums. Most of us are back at work now, but we still manage to meet up sometime and it was great to have the support of other new mums especially in the first few months.
Just thought it might be an option for people who can't afford the classes because they can be pretty pricey when you've got all the other baby related stuff to pay for.

legallyblond · 06/04/2013 21:28

littleducks I did exactly the same re NCT and will do so again this time (NHS classes plus NCT bumps and babies only). Absolutely everyone I met in bumps and babies agreed that they could have just done bumps and babies as opposed to the full classes - the bumps and babies was the post NCT support group! Will def do that again, especially as now I have done all the stuff before (plus the one thing NCT should teach is breastfeeding, abc the class near us, according to what my friends from b and b had learnt, deed not teach that at all well!!! Thankfully I had my mum who breast fed all four of us until two, was a LLL bf mentor and gave me a 1980s copy of breast is best... Literally saved me!!!

legallyblond · 06/04/2013 21:30

pseudo, meant to say, congrats on the scan and so glad that 11+6 milestone is behind you (forgive me if that's wrong, I seem to remember that was your past mc date) x x

Irishfairy · 06/04/2013 21:43

I didn't do NCT but I did a few courses of prenatal yoga and met a brilliant circle of friends through that. We are really close as we all live in or really near a small town. And my DH has become friendly with the dads, they go out for drinks every couple of weeks. I'm going back to the same yoga course starting next week. As well as meeting fab ladies it was really helpful for keeping the aches and pains at bay and with different positions and breathing in labour.

Irishfairy · 06/04/2013 21:44

Congrats to those who had scans too!

char1eston · 06/04/2013 21:59

I did Nct classes with dd. found them pretty useful, particularly for empowering us to ask questions about what was happening during labour and understanding what all the options were regarding pain relief etc. and coping with the pain.
Met a great bunch of people and we still meet regularly 2 years later. If you become a member you'll have the added benefit of getting into the Nct sales before non members.

Natalieand · 06/04/2013 22:02

I only had my scan Wednesday and it already feels like it was weeks ago! I still have 6 weeks and 6 days to wait until my next one, I wish I was rich enough to have private ones weekly or fortnightly :-(

Has anyone Ever used a swinging crib before instead of a cot? Baby will eventually share a room with dd and go in a cot but I thought while baby is sharing with me and dh that a crib would be best to have by my bed at night as a basket doesn't last 5 minutes really? And I have dd's basket I can use downstairs in the day time while baby is still small. Just trying to think of space saving really as I don't want them to share till baby is half decent sleeping at night . Xxx
