MeanMrsMustard I hope you feel better, that sounds like a rubbish start to a day!

Kim we bought the MaxiCosi Pebble as are getting an iCandy. We're incredibly lucky as DH's parents are paying for it- everything on that buggy is extra! The adaptors for that are £30. Anyway, the pebble is a lovely seat, looks really snug and when it isn't attached to anything you can rock it! It does require a base to plug into the car though, unless you use a seatbelt. Know quite a few people with a pebble and everyone really happy with it.

Phoned my MW to find out about my stabbing fanjo pains but nobody is answering the phone, great!

JammyTummy · 15/04/2013 11:23

flo I am constantly hungry just now so I've stopped buying any 'bad' stuff for the house otherwise I demolish it! I basically eat anything that is offered to me/ is within my reach. Trying to eat lots of fruit and cereal instead of general stodge.

nerual · 15/04/2013 12:39

haha anyone seen this before? guycodeblog.mtv.com/2012/12/20/apocalypse-mayans-babies/

How many of you lot due mid september were doing bd just in case the world was about to end ;-)

frogchops · 15/04/2013 13:04

I've bought a britax bsmart which comes with carseat and carrycot. So my carseat is britax too.

JammyTummy · 15/04/2013 13:16

I forgot to say on the subject of TENS machines- they are currently on sale on boots- for £28 and for £36 I think.

Also wanted to know, breast pump- is an electric one much better than a manual? They are so different price wise!

kimjayne · 15/04/2013 13:20

Thanks for all the fab tips on car seats and cot mattresses! It's much appreciated. I might go for the spring mattress as the cot is a cot/bed so will last longer as readytosettle and Hetty pointed out. (so thanks again ladies).

In terms of car seats. I have just found out that my relative (who's giving us the bugaboo) has saved her car seat for me also! Apparently it's a maxi cosy pebble! Which is great as that's the one we liked in the shops and also sounds like a few of you ladies rate that one quite highly (cheers Jammy Tummy and SGJ).

I can't imagine how tricky it would be to find out these little gems of info if we didn't have Mumsnet! :)

Is anyone out there bothering with the Babyshow in May? I got cheap tickets to the NEC one for the Sunday. By the look of things now though, I will have almost everything sorted already! So not sure how useful it will be..

Anyway, 25 hours til my scan now .... really starting to feel quite nervous/excited! Are there any other scans tomorrow??

kimjayne · 15/04/2013 13:22

Jammytummy I am glad you asked that! Also interested to hear peoples views on electric V's manual breast pumps! I am guessing electric would be much simpler but who knows?

jemimahpuddleduck · 15/04/2013 13:34

I've got three friends who've had babies in the last year and they all recommend the Tommee Tippee electric pump would be great to hear other suggestions though.

Lovely bump pics everyone I take mine every Wednesday and it doesn't look much different every week, I've got a feeling it will this week as feel like I've grown. My belly button also is starting to feel funny almost tingly!

Scan is on Friday at 19+2 anybody scan buddies?

SGJ · 15/04/2013 14:02

I used the Tommee Tippee manual pump which was effective enough. I always fancied the idea of an electric one but my sister's just got the Tommee Tippee electric and says that and the manual both do much the same job except that the electric is really noisy!
Apparently the Medela Swing is the nuts but then it ought to be at £90!!

SGJ · 15/04/2013 15:00

Ladies! There's an extra 20% off all Gap sale items, today only! Just out EXTRA20 in the box at checkout. Hurrah!

JammyTummy · 15/04/2013 15:56

SGJ that's what I heard about the Medela too but nobody ever specifies why!

weebarra · 15/04/2013 16:37

Thank you SGJ, I've just bought a dress, a new nightie (non maternity but it's stretchy!) and a pair of shorts for DS1!
Re pumps, never tried a manual pump but had a medela and apart from the time I turned the suction up too high and broke my nipple (oooowww), it was really good. It's been used for two children now though, and leant to friends, so I think I might treat myself to a new one!

kimjayne · 15/04/2013 17:26

EEeeekkkk! Work is almost finished for the day. Just one nights sleep until and then I get to see my baby on screen again. And maybe even find out the sex. I am going to be like a kid on christmas eve tonight. No way I will fall asleep!

Can't believe how fast 20 weeks has gone!

CharlW1 · 15/04/2013 18:42

jemimah I have my scan Friday too I am worried and excited - like binary I haven't felt movement either yet! I think Doritas scan may be Friday too.

Good look Kim for your scan tomorrow - and anyone else having scans tomorrow Smile

Readytosettle · 15/04/2013 18:42

Finally managed to upload my bump pic to my profile...

flipflump · 15/04/2013 19:07

Looking forward to hearing more scan news this week. Some days it feels like its dragging then all of a sudden we're queuing up for the 20 week scan!! Mine is still 9 days away, like others feeling scared and excited.

Interested in the manual v electric too, feel like I should go manual as its so much cheaper and don't plan to express all that much, especially in the first 6 weeks as I'd like to establish feeding properly, without confusing things. Not that I know what I'm doing!! I may regret the manual though and wish I'd gone straight to electric. Argh! Going round in circles.

If anyone finds a good spring cot bed mattress, I'd be really interested in a link. I'm struggling to make decisions just now and I'm bamboozled by all the different mattresses. Anyone else unable to make simple decisions? I can't even decide what I want for dinner!! Smile

kimjayne · 15/04/2013 19:18

Flipflump Im having the same issue on mattresses. But following advice from ladies on here we are now looking at spring mattresses. I will post links to any cheap deals I come across if u like?
Thanks for good luck message Charl. I'm still nervous Coz Im almost 20 weeks and still not convinced I've felt a thing. So keeping fingers and toes crossed all goes well.
Good luck to everyone else with scans this week. X

frogchops · 15/04/2013 19:26

Rant time!!!
Our next door neighbour just said to my DP while he was in the garden 'that we had all of this to come' referring to her naughty vile children. When DP looked puzzled because we haven't told them I'm pregnant (I try not to speak to them!) she said she knew this because she works at our hospital and has seen our file. I've never seen her in any uniform and she is definitley nit of any great importantce there, nor would i say she's capable of manning a computer....so how the hell does she know? Grrrrr

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 15/04/2013 19:35

Hello all,

Back from hols at the weekend, and had my scan today :) All looks good apparently. We didn't find out the sex, although I was a little bit tempted! Good luck to all those with scans coming up - it was quite nerve-wracking!

Keepsmilingsunshine · 15/04/2013 19:37

That sounds a bit dodgy Frog. What business does she have to be looking through your CONFIDENTIAL file. I would think about speaking to the hospital and enquiring about what reasons she has to be looking you up.

weebarra · 15/04/2013 19:39

Frog, that is beyond awful! Are you going to complain?!
I worked as a GP receptionist in a past life (sorry!) and I would never ever ever have told anyone I knew anything about their medical history.

jennimoo · 15/04/2013 19:41

I got my foam mattress from here last time:
babymattressesonline.co.uk/

They also do travel cot ones. If you get a travel cot like we did with a barely padded bottom you will definitely want a foam one after one trip away...

frogchops · 15/04/2013 19:48

Me too! I've worked as a receptionist and a medical secretary so I even had to go through notes for medications etc... But never ever ever would have shared them!! She even knew the exact time and date of our last appointment! I don't know who to complain to without causing a neighbour issue!!

TripleRock · 15/04/2013 20:28

I cannot believe that Frog! I would be fuming!

Re breast pumps, I had a cheap Mothercare manual pump and later switched to the Tommee Tippee electric one because I assumed electric would automatically be much more effective but it wasn't the case for me. Never got more out than with the manual.

The only advantage of the electric was being able to plug myself in and forget about expressing while catching up on my sky plus planner in the early hours! With my manual I had to put a bit more concentration and effort in.

But the TT was very noisy and even on top setting not particularly brilliant. I've heard better ones are Medela and Armeda (sp?) but they come with higher price tags too.

FWIW I wouldn't particularly recommend the cheapo mothercare pump either as it broke after a few months, so was a false economy.

I think expensive electric pumps are something to invest in down the line when you know what your needs are expressing wise e.g. whether you are just after the odd few oz for one bottle or to mix in weaning foods or whether you are trying to get days worth stocked up.

Also keep in mind that it's possible to hire really good electric pumps in lots of areas, so might be worth looking into before you splash the cash.

Manoodledo · 15/04/2013 20:35

Just marking my place as have come back from a week's holiday and not had time to catch up with everything yet. Was supposed to have 20-week scan today but got home last night (at about 3 in the morning from a flight which had to have a couple of very scary attempts at landing!) to find a letter saying they'd changed the scan to Friday in a different hospital about an hour away. Boo! There was also a letter referring me to the consultant because DS1 had a heart problem in utero which thankfully was nothing in the end. This is odd because I've had DS2 meantime and didn't see the consultant with him. Grr!
