here we all are... hoping for nice clear 20w. scans, not too much inadvertent weeing and getting that 'glow'...

binary I order you to eat the cake :)

kips looking forward to scan news tomorrow - are you going to find out? I was with some friends yesterday and they are all convinced I am going to find out the sex because of having the 2 boys already Hmm

As its been a while, in more ways than one, let's talk about poo - tomorrow will be day 8 of 'no movement' in the bowel front! I thought I was over that problem...

JammyTummy · 08/04/2013 17:41

My Jools Oliver book just arrived! DH is out tonight so I'm going to get myself on the sofa, put my feet up and have some quality book time, with probably some cake involved somewhere!

HettySunshine · 08/04/2013 18:11

Keepsmiling - how lovely to be due date buddies. My scan is on 26 April so exactly 20 weeks - I can't believe we're nearly half way through! Smile

Btw, when we were listening to the heartbeat my midwife said 'now, does that sound like a train or a horse.' We said a train and she said 'ah, a boy then!'

She was joking of course but i wondered if anyone else had heard that one?

kipsonline · 08/04/2013 18:15

Thank you Creamtea. I think we are, as DH and DSs want to, even though I'd rather not. I'm tying myself up in knots a bit about how to tell people if we do find out as i really don't want people to think/assume we'd be disappointed with another DS. I guess I'll have to face it either way, just a bit harder for people to make inappropriate comments when the DC has actually arrived. Maybe? Am also worried about the potential ill effects of some of my scarier lupus drugs. Deep breaths. It'll be fine.

kipsonline · 08/04/2013 18:17

Oooh and 8 days????? Yeeouch

fl0b0t · 08/04/2013 18:22

8 days creamtea?! ouch! Whats your diet like? I assume you're trying to get a nice balanced diet with lots of fibre and fruit/veg etc? /me gives you a stern look!

kips do whatever YOU want to- it's your baby! I hate the concept of disappointment about the gender- and yes it's definitely harder to make comments when baby has arrived. Our exact reason for not finding out the gender or telling anyone. People are bonkers (rude!) to think it's ok to suggest that you'd be disappointed with one gender or another. FIL (who is usually ok, just a bit thoughtless) has already "requested" a grandson Hmm. Yeah, cos it's that easy....

Hello Ladies,

Been following along with your posts but too low & tired to get involved! Cold is finally starting to let up (tho my sinuses are still blocked), but I am constantly exhausted at the moment. Having plenty of sleep but just can't shake off the exhaustion :-(

Anyways, I'm trying to look on the bright side as am 16weeks today so just 5 months to go! Also, it looks like I'm not flying for 6 weeks....considering baby has averaged 1 flight a week since conception this is amazing news....may even help me feel less exhausted!

On the clothes front, I've now got a collection of dresses from Seraphine, m&p, boden & my mum's eBay hunting....still think I look a bit scruffy but I guess stretchy things will never look that smart. Top tip on Seraphine....John Lewis stock a fairly decent range & ship for free so it's worth checking there before you buy direct.

After a conversation with the hubby last week where I gave him a verbal run down of my baby shopping list, to be met with comments such as 'we've already got a bath, why do we need another one for the baby?' and 'I thought baby's sat in the front of the car' when discussing ISO fix bases I have now invested in a book called 'What to buy for your baby' from Amazon. It's really good, very down to earth and practical- should help me win over the husband, and reassure me that I do need certain items, and definitely don't need others.

Lexy re: Watford sex scans, in Asian areas they tend to have a policy against telling the sex in case of abortion. My boss was Milton Keynes and it applied there as well- but I think if you come across in the right way then the sonographer may take pity on you (he's very white middle class & managed to find out). I'm in Surrey & the 12 week scan letter actually says that you will be able to ask the sex at the 20 week.

No baby movements for me yet :-( but tummy is still growing (am poss even getting the start of some stretch marks!!!)....

Creamtea1 · 08/04/2013 19:03

:) flo promise it's been good! Consciously trying to keep things moving so things like raisin shredded wheat for breakfast (couple of porridge days too), whole meal bread only if having bread, mega helping of spinach with home made curry on sat night, big glass of fresh orange or apple each day, tea as hot as I can drink it in the mornings...I'm running out of things now, actimel in there too!!
I'm going to come out the other side 2lbs lighter for sure! Grin

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 08/04/2013 20:15

creamtea opposite problem here - four poos today! I swear it's the iron tablets. I'm not surprised I'm knackered from all that going up and down the stairs.

kimjayne · 08/04/2013 21:13

Is anyone else watching bbc 3? "don't just stand there, Im having your baby" is partly filmed at my local hospital tonight!

Creamtea1 · 08/04/2013 21:19

Ha ha red !

LexyMa · 08/04/2013 22:00

Well I have just been to Pilates class. That was interesting... Baby enjoyed the shoulder bridge position in particular, it was his/her cue to start a little foetus Zumba session in there.

I'm perfectly happy with not knowing the sex at the scan - just told DH about Watford not telling, and he said well that settles it then, no worries. We aren't bothered enough to pay for a private scan. Unfortunately, DH won't be able to be there with me tmrw which is a shame but unavoidable.

JammyTummy · 08/04/2013 22:35

My baby is dancing around tonight too! I had a bath earlier, and felt such a big kick (although I reckon it was a flip) it actually made the water ripple! DH might be getting some bump cuddles soon!

Whoever recommended Jools Oliver book- I'm really loving it,
such a nice book!

kimjayne · 09/04/2013 09:17

right, this might sound strange but has anyone else started experiencing a pulse/heartbeat noise (quite loudly) in their left ear? Or either ear really? I have had it constantly now for over 2 weeks and have read online that this is another symptom of pregnancy. I have tried my best to ignore it but it's driving me mad.

Has anyone else had this?

CheeseStrawCraving · 09/04/2013 10:46

Thanks for back advice peeps, whoever mentioned sitting down to put socks on etc, that really is helping! Also stopping with the heavy lifting has helped...

ION still waiting for scan date, despite chasing (am 18+2 today) - good job I'm self-employed or there's no way I'd be able to organise time off when the date finally comes through!

Also, have purchased Jools Oliver on my ipad, am also really enjoying it, thanks for the tip! For other first timers, a friend who had her first in Nov has recommended 'what to expect when you're expecting' as a rough guide that she found useful.... Will let you know what I think, anyone else read this one?

Hope you're all having a great day!

kipsonline · 09/04/2013 11:04

So, 20 wk scan was fine, although still waiting in a v hot clinic for all my varied checks... The baby proved to be a little camera shy, shielding his/her face from the paparazzi and absolutely refusing to open his/her legs, so we are none the wiser!! Couldn't get a proper head view either so will need to be rescanned in a couple of weeks. Bonus!

Readytosettle · 09/04/2013 11:52

Cheese I've got 'What to Expect' but am not that keen on it to be honest. It doesn't really seem to say much, it's mostly q&a e.g. 'I feel dizzy, what does it mean?' 'now that I'm getting bigger I suddenly feel scared' etc etc

Maybe I've been spoilt but I think our little group on mumsnet probably does a more thorough job of addressing all these little niggles! Was probably a great book before the days of the internet....

Readytosettle · 09/04/2013 11:54

BTW have now ploughed through a good few sections of the 'What to Buy for your Baby' book & it really is brilliant. They go through item by item and give an opinion on whether you need it or not, whether it's worth paying top dollar for the best item & also recommending specific products where relevant.

Book in one hand, pen & paper in the other & ipad in between to google pricing/stockists etc!

JammyTummy · 09/04/2013 14:12

Just read an article which reminded me, and now I am reminding you (because if you're in any way like me you never remember)- do your pelvic floor exercises today!

Creamtea1 · 09/04/2013 14:14

Drum roll......the eagle has landed and it was painful!

have also managed to put on 4 lb in 11 days Hmm and that's supposedly being good...anyone know if somewhere between week 18 and 20 we get a growth spurt? As bump has suddenly popped this week so did suspect a spurt!

JammyTummy · 09/04/2013 14:25

Creamtea my baby app tells me that your baby grows in size six-fold from when it is 18 weeks, so sounds about right!

LCR77 · 09/04/2013 14:31

On the subject of good books I'd highly recommend the Rough Guide to Pregnancy by Kaz Cooke. It's really thorough and also very amusing and sectioned week by week including a handy ruler guide for size of the baby on that week.

LexyMa · 09/04/2013 14:35

Creamtea, about that 4lb... did you weigh yourself before or after the, er, eagle landed? :)

in scan waiting room now...

Creamtea1 · 09/04/2013 14:40

Arrgh lexy it was after!
Thanks jammy for the growth info - literally noticed since last week the bump seems to have doubled.
Am I going to seem like a nutter if I ask midwife at next appt re gestational diabetes as I'm now at 19lbs on in 19 weeks..I am admittedly thirsty all the time, my craving has been cold drinks of any sort - I've been watching what I eat since I stopped feeling sick about a month or so ago.

EmmaDee · 09/04/2013 14:51

I just ordered the mumsnet book, I wanted something that was funny and informative so hopefully it'll do the job. Then later on I'll buy something birth related! Dont wanna scare myself this early on!!

Anyone get a bout of crazy tiredness on the 16th week? As well as my mental pains in the pelvis/lady area, I feel the need to sleep for a week.

Last night I got in from work and had a wee dose, woke for dinner then fell asleep again from 8.30 right through to after 7.30 this morning!!! Is this normal??
