TheBeanpole · 14/04/2013 10:28

Hello everyone

Very first post! Got BFP on Thursday, first DC, which gives a due date of 15th December. Whole thing is slightly weird, but keeping finger crossed it all proceeds in a very boring way.

Feeling ok so far, apart from a bit like I've been kicked in the back by a horse, but a run yesterday eased it off. Hopefully it will continue as I travel loads for work and will be in SE Asia for 3 weeks as of next weekend (one week of work, followed by 2 weeks of holiday with DP and 2 friends). Then back in the UK for a week, followed by 2 more weeks of travel, and could do without feeling terrible. Haven't told anyone yet, although we might need to tell the friends we're travelling with or Questions Will Be Asked re. The lack of booze and scuba diving...

Will probably have to tell my boss sooner than I would like so they can do a risk assessment re. some of the shadier places I travel to as well, which I am not relishing, as I haven't been there a year yet (but won't take more than 6 months off as am main breadwinner).

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

StyleManual · 14/04/2013 10:36

Congratulations Beanpole! I got my BFP on Thurs too. We'll be due around the same time. I don't envy you with all that travelling. First trimester's the worst, because you feel shocking and you have to keep it secret. Then when it's 2nd trimester and everyone knows, you're full of beans and you don't really need a rest, but everyone wants to be all nice and look after you.
We went out for a meal last night with BIL and SIL. I ordered OJ and I noticed a few suspicious looks from SIL, but she didn't ask. (She knows we're ttc, so she will have guessed!) Going to try and hold off till after 12 weeks scan to tell anyone. Last time we told my family early as we thought it was ectopic, then told everyone else after 8 week scan when we saw a heartbeat.
When are the rest of you spilling the beans?

So sorry to the ladies who are having a mc. Wish there was something to say which would mean something or help, but my thoughts and heart goes to you.

Well I'm off for a wee trip to M&S today for another bra, going to have to give in now and wear one, boobs are just too sore and full to wear my normal ones.
Now, what are people's opinion of maternity knickers, waste of time?

StyleManual · 14/04/2013 11:35

I didn't get maternity knickers last time, but I did get some new pants that were low slung types. They were quite good for under the bump. But I guess that's a while off for us lot.

PS Sorry Plenty, I didn't see that you had mc'd too. Hope you've got some good support. It must be a horrible time. x

musiceverywhere · 14/04/2013 11:38

Hi ladies, just moved off 2ww thread as had a bfp yesterday morning. Can i join? TTC #1 and had only been trying few months.
Really trying to keep anxiety and excitement at bay, as I know it's so early, but get scared everytime I feel a twinge or go to loo..
It's funny, I was raised catholic and haven't been 'practicing' for years or really had strong beliefs, but at the moment I keep taking deep breaths and thinking 'its in Gods hands now'!? V strange....
Sorry to everyone that's had sad news recently, look after yourselves (or better yet, get someone else to) and have a big glass of wine. xx

StyleManual · 14/04/2013 11:47

Congrats Music! It's exciting and scary at the same time isn't it. You're right though, it's out of your hands.
I am currently trying to get my head round what I am allowed to eat. We had a steak to celebrate on Friday, and half way through my (very) rare fillet steak I realised I probably shouldn't have been eating it. Still not sure about shellfish and my DH was hissing at me last night when were out that I shouldn't be ordering the crabcakes. Then I had to forgo my runny egg this morning. What a pisser!

Vocalista86 · 14/04/2013 11:56

Congratulations to all those with recent BFPs and so sorry to anyone going through mc, such a hard thing and my thoughts are with you.

I had a silly moment in M&s the other day, Qd for ages to get in to lingerie waiting room, as my wires have been making current bras un-wearable, no apology from staff, went there specially hoping for a quick measurement, 'sorry we don't do that without an appointments' despite lots of staff standing around. Both bras didn't fit, asked if I could get another couple, oh no, you'll have to vacate your dressing room, even though nobody waiting for one. Burst in to tears, dh very concerned. I was so angry with them!!

M&S is shit isn't it. I had just the same thing last time. I think I got some nice bras in Debenhams in the end.
I cried the otehr day listening to a documentary about rhinos on R4. It wasn't even sad. The presenter was just describing how huge it was and I had a little cry about how big a rhino is. Confused I will avoid BGT - sounds like an emotional rollercoaster that I can't copr with!

Vocalista86 · 14/04/2013 12:06

Style - yes I headed straight for Debenhams, much much better. No tears there - apart from having to look in the mirror compared to my wedding ready bod this time last year! :(

StyleManual · 14/04/2013 12:12

Ahh, no Vocalist - it's a lovely pregnant body! Nothing to be fed up about. I can't wait to be all fat with a lovely hairy tummy. A highlight of my last pregnancy was my leg waxer asking me where I wanted her to stop as she was waxing up to my belly button. I hadn't realised what a luscious pelt I had until then! (Am trying to not get obsessed with my body issues and weight this time round!)

PistachioTruffle · 14/04/2013 12:19

Haha at crying at how big a rhino is StyleManual that made me giggle!

I haven't really cried at anything yet, though I tend to swing between anxiety and complete overexcitement. I did have a little snuffle when my lovely friend offered me her nursery furniture the other day though Smile

The bras I bought this week are already starting to give me the four-boob effect, I'll take heed of your experiences though ladies and avoid M&S!

Vocalista86 · 14/04/2013 12:21

I know, and I actually can't wait for a bump, but at the mo when I'm not feeling sick I am sooooo hungry and eating everything in sight! Bloat is not good!!

OrbisNonSufficit · 14/04/2013 12:38

Congrats and welcome music and beanpole!

I've been crying at random things as well, but nothing quite so funny as how big a rhino is Grin...

Vocalista I know what you mean about the scoffing - normally the week before my period is 'hungry week' when I'm constantly starving - hopefully the first trimester isn't 3 months of that, I'll be the size of a house!

FluffyDucky · 14/04/2013 13:53

Vocal I would say that us just bad service, not you having a funny moment!
I am feeling quite hormonal & dizzy today which is pissing me off even more lol! I've bought some knitting books as I want to try making booties etc, now I can't find any frigging needles! Plus husband reminded me why we came into town, totally forgot about bra! I think I have baby brain already

LadyMedea · 14/04/2013 14:31

bean I would tell your boss ASAP as with all that travelling they are going to ave to be able to adjust schedules. Don't underestimate how crap you may feel.

Your work may even have a maternity policy which says what to do for higher risk occupations.

Depending on where you're going exactly your doctor may recommend not going - anywhere malarial is generally off the cards.

I travel quite a bit too, and think my India trip in June is probably off!

TheBeanpole · 14/04/2013 16:14

Thanks for the welcome!

style yes, I'm sort of looking forward to being all energetic in the middle bit...have been eyeing up festival tickets for the summer, anticipating glowing-ness.

LadyMedea I think I'll probably be telling him after I get back from this trip, which is mostly holiday anyway, non Malarial, and a fairly easy series of meetings which I am not in charge of, for once. My next trip is to Pakistan so I think I probably should tell him by then, as although healthcare is reasonable there the security situation is a bit of a compounding factor. And I could duck out of that if I need to if I feel crap.

I do travel a fair bit to East Africa too, and most of that will be pretty much out. Can't say I mind though, already been 3 times this year already. Surprised we got a BFP at all, have hardly been here.

I will bear the Debenhams tip in mind on the new bra front. I am not very well endowed in that department so am looking forward to gaining a bit of a rack.

So sunny today! I would murder a gin and tonic.

inkymomma · 14/04/2013 17:25

Hi everyone. I already have a 2 year old girl and am pregnant! From my dates I think I'm due around the 17th December? (lord if its a week late it'll arrive on Christmas eve/day) anyone else due late December?
