Remembering could you ask her to refer you to physio? I would have expected a Midwife to have at least heard of this condition but there should definitely be a female health/obstetric physio at a local hospital who is more knowledgeable about PGP. My physio was very good and explained a lot about why you get the pain.

I got signed off for two weeks by a GP who had never heard of it before and had to google it during my consultation! He tried to fob me off at first saying it was just normal aches and pains of pregnancy and I should just put up with it as long as the baby was fine. I had to reason with him I wasn't in the habit of wasting DR's time with mild cramps or back ache but was really struggling.

I think you should push further, the thing that made me was I read it is better to get treatment as early as possible because it gets progressively worse. I couldn't bear the thought so stuck to my guns. Hope you get sorted soon.

Congrats MrsWajs!

FoofFighter · 20/04/2013 12:52

Why is it now called PGP when it was mostly called SPD previously? Confused

JollyPurpleGiant · 20/04/2013 13:11

SPD is Symphisis Pubis Dysfunction. Your symphisis Pubis is the pelvic joint at the front. PGP is Pelvic Girdle Pain which is an all encompassing term for pain in any of the joints.

My pain is mainly in the SI, sacro-iliac joints so PGP is definitely a more correct term for what I have :)

Christelle2207 · 20/04/2013 16:56

remembering that is rubbish re your midwife. I mentioned PGP to mine an she whipped out the referral form straight away. Your GP should also be able to refer you. Round here I will get telephone consultation within couple of weeks then (probably) get booked in to "group physio session" in the first instance soon after that.

I am finally getting organised! I sorted the nursery place yesterday then this morning dh and I went to the local nct nearly new sale. It was a bit of a bunfight but we ended up spending about £70 on a whole car boot of stuff - we previously had nothing other than some donations from a friend. Only thing slightly disappointing was so much stuff was (obviously) blue/pink - we don't intend to find out what we're having and not a fan of the blue/pink stuff anyway, I was kinda hoping for more beige/yellow/green stuff! But we've still got quite a bit. Also my dh annoyed me a bit because he just stood in the corner holding the bags and didn't really engage at all in looking at the stuff. We talked about it later and he admitted he was a bit overwhelmed with it really, and given that that he's working hard on a very long list of home improvement atm, and seems to think about nothing but that generally (which is good!) he just can't get his head around the baby stuff right now. He was completely fine with me getting whatever I wanted though, which I guess is positive! Has promised to be more "engaged" when we go looking at prams - they only had about 3 or 4 there this morning which was a bit disappointing.

Hope everyone gets some sunshine today. I am going to try a very gentle run later, hoping it doesn't aggravate the PGP too much.

Anyone else had the punishing calf cramps in the middle of the night? Had them for second time last night and had to jump straight out of bed (DH thought for a second I'd gone into labour) - horrid.

FoofFighter · 20/04/2013 17:21

Yes to calf cramps but then I get them anyway with the back/leg/nerve probs I have.

Top tips is drink lots of water, eat a banana in the evening, warm baths and stretching before bed, drinking tonic water cause of the quinine in it helps too although nothing seems to help mine waaaaaahhhh

I had a disappoitning time at the baby market too, we paid £1 entry each and only bought 1 thing, for a friends lad!! Sad

chocolatesolveseverything · 20/04/2013 17:52

Sorry to those suffering from pelvic issues. I've been dreading the very idea of them. So far it seems I've escaped... but fingers crossed.

I get calf cramps too, but not too badly. I find that flexing my ankle upwards (as if I was trying to get my toes to touch my shin) stops them straight away, but not sure if that's just because they're mild to start with.

Woofers · 20/04/2013 18:03

SPG here defo. I can self refer to hospital specialist physio - although I haven't got round to it yet as I'm going in work time and not on annual leave!!!!

I think I can feel wiggling. But I just feel full!!

Went to an agility comp with my little dog today. There were 3 bumps in total!! We will be introducing the next generation of junior handlers!!

RugBugs · 20/04/2013 20:15

Ugh, those with leg cramps have my sympathy. I really suffered with DD, was agony and quite bizarre flexing your ankle but the calf muscle staying contracted!
All my eBay parcels came this morning. I do not need to be buying any more baby clothes, unless they are cute or on sale obviously!

thekatsatonthematt · 20/04/2013 21:11

This is going to sound weird, but Yay! a symptom I can discuss!!!!

Yep, I'm that disgusting, glowing, happily pregnant, already slightly overweight so not bothered about getting bigger (and still losing weight anyway thanks to all the walking), doesn't have any back/pelvic pain...

But leg cramps....oh yes. Mine have been quite fierce over the past 10 days. My DM and DH tried to blame it on work, but I got them Sun/Mon/Tue night when I hadn't worked those days so clearly just "pregnancy". I also have a tendancy towards cramp in my toes, so every time I point/flex my ankle to ease the calf muscle my toes start to cramp. Delightful!

Comedy moment today, the sun was shining so I shed my usual waterproof jacket, which meant showing off my bump (which already looks a good 7-8 months at 25 weeks) off to everyone on my post route.

Think the penny dropped with a couple of the businesses that I'd approached about possible toilet stops in the future Grin.

One lovely old bloke can't quite get his head around a "lady" delivering post. Now he's realised I'm "with child" I thought he was going to have to sit down!!

wavesandsmiles · 20/04/2013 22:20

Smiling at the thought of a chap needing a sit down on account of you being "with child" kat

My symptoms, other than still being bloody sick, are now heartburn at night. Which is also when the baby seems to go on a bit of a crazy kicking spree....not much sleep happening here!

chocolatesolveseverything · 20/04/2013 22:28

Also had to Grin when I saw your post about being 'with child' thekat. Us modern ladies, eh?

Still sending sympathy vibes waves. Just keeping thinking of that cute wee footballer baby at the end!

thekatsatonthematt · 20/04/2013 22:35

waves & choc I swear that is what he said to his wife as I walked off. I didn't think anyone still used such terminology. That and the sunshine made today a very happy day Grin

BabyHMummy · 21/04/2013 16:50

remembering i have similar dismissal when i went to Dr about the pelvic pain. I am now at point where i am struggling even to walk a few yards without being in agony so will be ringing mw on Tuesday and hoping like hell that she is actually at work for a change. Luckily i am already signed off due to anxiety attacks but there is no way i could work at the moment as my job is on my feet and walking about all day in a place i cannot have crutches. I dis debate buying some walking sticks to give me some support the other day! Will be insisting on a referal this week cos can't take his much more.

Had the family do yesterday...was sooooo hard being the only dry one there (with the exception of the kids obviously!) esp as the waiters were amazing and never let anyone's glass be empty.

On the support belts for pgp i tried the mothercare one and am taking it back as it feels so uncomfy...not aided by the fact that my bump at the bottom is still more flabby tummy than bump. I am Carrying quite high which is start to cause my asthma a few issues as am very wheezy at the moment and have a really ache in my chest. Will be upping my inhalers and adding back in my copd one :-(

Ditsy79 · 22/04/2013 08:05

Hi,
Hoping that all of you suffering with PGP/SPD or calf cramps are bearing up okay. I had calf cramps a few nights ago, and it was excruciatingly painful - even though I wanted to jump out of bed, I literally could not move my leg.
I wanted some advice really - I somehow managed to fall down the stairs last night, feel so stupid!Anyway, I managed to land on my bum, rather than the bump - but do you think I should try to see the GP or midwife today, just to check the baby's okay? DH thinks I'm being over-dramatic, his philosophy is that if I've felt it move, it must be okay. And I sort of agree with him, but wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't get it checked out. Any thoughts most welcome.
I'm phoning in sick for work today, as I'm a bit shaken up to be honest.

Slw8000 · 22/04/2013 09:53

Sorry to hear about your fall ditsy, get it checked out even if baby is moving. It's really important esp if your blood group is rh negative as you might ned anti-d. I am sure it all is fine esp if you landed on your bum. ( I am a midwife!)
I am such a clutts now I am pregnant and getting bigger I am forever walking into things, my sense of balance seems to have disappeared.
Hope all you ladies with spd are getting seem quickly.
X

RuckAndRoll · 22/04/2013 09:54

Ditsy why don't you just phone the midwife and see, just talking it through with her might help, and if she feels you need to be seen then she can make that call.

My SIL fell down the stairs at 30 weeks, knocked her bump on the way down. They checked her over but said baby is still well protected in there so as long as it was still wriggling / kicking, they were happy. oh and she had to take it easy for a few days.

RuckAndRoll · 22/04/2013 09:56

ok, x-post with Slw, ignore me, being a midwife listen to her!

thekatsatonthematt · 22/04/2013 09:56

Right, I was stupid last night and googled images of Kate Middleton doing the scout awards thing. Anyone else looking that good? I'm aboout a gazillion times bigger than her

Ditsy I'd give the mw office a call and expain, I'm sure they'll try to fit you in for a reassuring check-up.

BabyHMummy · 22/04/2013 09:57

ditsy the girls are tight you prob are fine but ring anyway and let the professionals make that call

Ditsy79 · 22/04/2013 10:23

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm seeing the midwife this afternoon - luckily she is at my GP surgery on Mondays.
Just resting up now, watching rubbish daytime tv. Smile

Abilee90 · 22/04/2013 11:06

Ditsy glad your getting checked. Let us all know how u get on.

For all who are on the fb group will know whats happening with dd. lots of stress feelings atm here as i just want her sorted out. Hopefully will be feeling a lot less stressed after today.

Little man is getting stronger by the day and shocked dh with how bigs his kicks were getting. Not a huge bump here and no weight gain to be noted. My gtt is in 3 weeks :/ i hate that blooming test. So that should be fun. But i have got another scan the same day. I cant wait! Very exciting.

Hope everyone is ok. Finding facebook to keep in touch with everyone. But have been reading on how u lot are.

24 + 6 :) going quick xx

RuckAndRoll · 22/04/2013 12:14

Abi talking about GTT, do you only get that if you have risk factors or is everyone supposed to have it? I've read a few places that say 'you will have a gtt at x weeks', but nothing's been said.

We went away for probably our last adult relaxing weekend this weekend. Had a brilliant time, we were less than 2 hrs away from home but it felt a whole world away. Really didn't want to come back last night.

24+1

BabyHMummy · 22/04/2013 12:22

Ruck they only do it of you have had complications or gest diabetes in previous pgs or if your bmi is 30 or over as far as i am aware

beckie90 · 22/04/2013 13:34

ditsy glad your getting checked out hope your ok.

It's ds2s birthday today :D he's currently playing with all his toys, were going to the play area at tea time and having tea out.

Feeling rather rubbish today just seem to be physically exhausted and got no energy at all. Oh the joys lol.

24+2 xx

BabyHMummy · 22/04/2013 15:29
