LexiLoganberryBump · 18/04/2013 12:18

foof I've chosen bumgenius freetime. Have you seen them?
I like that they're quick drying because the inserts are attached at either end so just need to be folded over and no stuffing, they come in some lovely colours too. My only concern is that with a 2 part system you get better containment but only time will tell on that one. Are yours a AIO or a 2 part system?

Also ordered the cheeky wipe kit today, with the code RNW2013 you can get 25% off till the 21st if anyone else is interested.

RugBugs · 18/04/2013 12:35

Bloody Yodel aren't delivering my gap goodies today. The guy on the phone admitted they never attempted delivery just decided they couldn't be arsed today.

Post hasn't been yet either /sob I would go out shopping but I can't take the buggy because I'm waiting for replacement screws after we lost a rather important one in Brussels (damn cobbles must have loosened it!).

On the plus side the mat I ordered is ready to collect from mothercare Grin DD has been all over any baby stuff she's seen and she uses this mat at her dance class so she's going to love it (hopefully the cats won't!).

I'm so tempted to get some pocket nappies, the blueberry basixs.

21+0 today :) Had our scan on Monday. Baby looks perfect. DH felt it kick today for the first time. Lovely :) Getting ready for a busy weekend - DS is 2 on Sunday. SIL is coming to stay all weekend too. So I should really be tidying rather than MNing! Going to have a coffee then get stuck in.

LexiLoganberryBump · 18/04/2013 14:52

jolly glad you had a good scan. How lovely that your DH has felt a kick, I can't wait for that.

22+2

chocolatesolveseverything · 18/04/2013 21:10

Yay for the scan Jolly!

I'm going to give reuseable nappies a go too - will be buying a few different types to try but has it already been mentioned yet that Lollipop are doing packs for half-price online at the moment? It's a good bargain, and a friend of mine says they're fab.

I own up by the way - it's me who's the HR person on this thread - or at least one of them. My confession to make is I HATE statutory maternity rules whch appear to have been specifically designed to send pregnant women into a frenzy of head-scratching! Occasionally staff ask me to explain them and I used to go into an inner panic, grabbing the book to keep me sort-of-straight Smile. I'm (slightly) better at them these days.

So yes, your MATB1 should technically be in by 15 weeks before the start of your expected week of confinement (which always starts on with Sunday rather than Monday, just to confuse...) so work that out if you like! Essentially get it in before 25 weeks and you'll be fine. In truth, most employers won't be bothered by a few days delay though so if anyone isn't going to see their midwife to get it by that point, just let your HR dept know there's a slight delay and 95% of them will be fine with that. If they're a bit more awkward and insist on getting it precisely on time, then you'll need to ask your midwife to post it or something.

Whilst I have my HR hat on, can I mention about risk assesments? They're a legal duty for employers under health & safety legislation, so if anyone hasn't had theirs yet, best ask when it will be - particularly if you're having any health/tiredness/mobility problems, etc. A good pregnancy risk assesment should identify if and what adjustments can be made (by you or your employer) to your job and/or environment to help make it manageable.

Chuckaluck · 18/04/2013 21:17

I cconfess it's me in HR!! You have to tell your employer of your intentions re maternity leave before 25 weeks but that only has to be that you will go as a minimum! You have to give 8 weeks note of the actual date you want to go bits lot of people just combine the 2 things! Also Baby H, your midwife should be able to give you your MATB1 anytime from 20 weeks so just ask if you want it earlier!

Just caught up with thread...

Foof hope all the family stuff is sorted and you and OH are ok Thanks

Baby H Well done to you for speaking up and getting some support, hope it makes the last few months of pregnancy a bit easier for you.

Snuffle congrats on new house!

I am banned from online shopping! I have bought so much lately and our elderly neighbours keep taking the parcels in, it's so embaressing going round to pick them up all the time and that's only the ones that come via couriers as my husband works at royal mail and gets all the ones that come via them!!!!

Chuckaluck · 18/04/2013 21:20

Oooo chocolate didnt realise there were 2 of us! Maternity law really is designed to confuse! We should compare notes some time!! Smile

chocolatesolveseverything · 18/04/2013 21:29

Grin Chuck!

I wouldn't say that I'm banned from online shopping, but my DH is raising some serious eyebrows at the amount of parcels arriving! And he's just been ever so good, going out this evening to pick up my ebay glider chair and stool from the other side of town. It's ever so comfy, but will need a bit of a clean up as it's clearly been well used by the previous owner.

Chuckaluck · 18/04/2013 21:35

I know it's got bad as my husband came back from work with 2 parcels for me today and I didn't even remember ordering one of the items!!!! Confused

Gerty1002 · 18/04/2013 21:38

Hello all, just came across this thread - due 30 August so thought I'd get involved. Is anyone else crazy enough to have their whole nursery complete yet? It's our first (and first grandchild for both sides) so once we had made decisions the parcels came thick and fast!

Chuckaluck · 18/04/2013 21:44

Welcome Gerty Smile

First for us too and first grandchild on both sides. Nursery was decorated but DH put his hand through the ceiling (long stupid story - DH is a plonker) so had to have ceiling fixed and skimmed today. All the freshly painted Walls now need doing again as they have stains all over them from the plasterer!!! Could have cried!!

Gerty1002 · 18/04/2013 21:58

Oh no! I think I would have sobbed, or possibly punched him... probably both. I should feel relaxed knowing we have almost everything sorted but my mind is still buzzing with things we need to do!

CheeseTMouse · 18/04/2013 21:58

Hello Gerty

Crikey - I feel very behind. We've not done anything at all yet on a nursery or shopping. The furthest I've got is buying some bargain maternity jeans so I don't live in tracky bottoms!

We're debating what to do as far as cots/cot beds/moses baskets/cribs are concerned. Any advice, anyone? There's a bewildering choice!

RugBugs · 18/04/2013 22:00

WelcomeGerty! My first DD was a first GC on my side and I was overwhelmed by the amount of lovely gifts we were presented with. It's great when family are really excited.

I'm still waiting for all my online purchases to arrive Sad things I know were posted on Monday (pushchair handle screws) haven't arrived, we've not had any post since last Friday!
DDs new carseat is due tomorrow, I don't want her using a 3-point seatbelt yet but I want a period of her not being in the 0+1 before its occupied again. We've gone for a britax 1-2-3 evolva and used the £10 voucher you get for downloading the mothercare app.

I picked up a support belt in mothercare today and taking it off after wearing it for 3hrs I realised what a difference it was making!
I didn't get one before because the sizes confused me and what fits now probably won't in 3 months time but having a chat with mw she suggested getting one that fits now and the physio will supply more/better ones later on.

Gerty1002 · 18/04/2013 22:09

We've been very lucky and have hardly had to buy any of the big things. We went for a mamas and papas cotbed package with cot top changer and under bed drawer - saves lots of space and the cot feels very sturdy. We're getting a used moses basket from a family member once she's done with it and baby will stayin there until he grows out of it. Cribs are lovely but imo a bit expensive for how long baby will fit in them

RuckAndRoll · 18/04/2013 22:18

chocolate Haha risk assessments. i'll mention that one to my boss and let you know his response! he basically told me, you know what's going on, we don't, tell us of you need anything doing/changing so we can ignore you

on my phone so can't check back the name, but welcome!

went to the antenatal physio class tonight as directed by mw, to be told I didn't need to go and can self refer for physio. 2 weeks wasted to get on this course thing to be told I could've just made an app. now another 3 week wait. not impressed.

BabyHMummy · 18/04/2013 22:44

Thanks Chuck will have a chat with her if i cam ever actually get hold of her...she works 2 days a week and has been off for the last 3 grrr

Does anyone know how i get taken seriously over possible spd? Am in f*ing agony...i can't when take off or put on my trousers cos moving my hips in that position kills. Am getting really cranky and starting to waddle like a bloody duck cos of the pain...really wanna just cry but dp is stressed enough without me having yet another melt down about being pg.

RugBugs · 18/04/2013 23:01

Ask your mw how to get a physio BabyHMummy, they'll give you support belts and crutches. I am stupidly excited about getting crutches!
As a stop gap I can really recommend the support belts in mothercare. Pull it nice and tight so it feels like you're wearing jeans a size too small.
My mw also said to regularly take paracetamol, it's no good taking it as and when, you need to do religiously like when you take cold & flu tablets.

OP posts:
BabyHMummy · 18/04/2013 23:05

Thanks will have a look on their website cos there isn't one nr me. Dr told me paracetamol and codeine unfortunately paracetamol makes me throw up and am violently allergic to codeine.

Will ring mw and leave a message for her to call me urgently when she is back. But crutches sounds divine if it takes the pressure off my hips

RugBugs · 18/04/2013 23:18

I read codeine was good too but like you I can't take it Sad gives me serious vertigo and that 'had a few too many vodkas the whole world is spinning omg I'm going to throw up' feeling!

OP posts:
BabyHMummy · 18/04/2013 23:23

Sounds similar to me. I get full blown out of body experiences, respiratory failure which was fun during an operation where the hospital knew full well i was allergic and gave it to.me anyway!

How good are these belts cos other forums say mixed results...the pain for me is mostly in my hips and between my legs...how do these belts help?

RugBugs · 18/04/2013 23:40

I was dubious myself but the difference I felt after taking it off was quite a surprise, I immediately felt the familiar discomfort just standing.
I had it pulled very tight and down over my hips but across the small of my back, it doesn't help that there are no instructions on how to use it.

OP posts:
RugBugs · 18/04/2013 23:42

I think they work by holding your pelvis together, hence the need to be tight across the hips.

OP posts:
BabyHMummy · 18/04/2013 23:46

Cool will give it a whirl

JollyPurpleGiant · 19/04/2013 06:50

I had a physio appt for my pelvic pain. Other things that can help are:
Wearing a tight vest under clothes and onthe bump to hhold things in
Changing position if sore
Standing up straight, not slouching like a very heavily pg lady
Pelvic partnership is a website as is
