Totally - lucky you! I hadn't put on any weight until about 18 weeks, now at 24 I'm tipping the scales at 12lbs heavier than my pre-pg weight Shock Shock I don't feel like I've changed my diet at all in the last 6 weeks but 2lbs a week gain is surely not sustainable for the next 16 weeks (I hope to god!!)?!!

dinkystinky · 02/04/2013 14:07

Totally - I like to think of my body as pre-stretched which is why I'm so enormous already. Havent weighed myself recently but had already put on 2 stone by the time I last weighed myself so you and Mightbe definitely have nothing to worry about Grin

might and dinky I gained no weight at my 12 week appointment but I think I am tipping a stone and a half gain now, I feel myself plumping more and more everyday. Easter chocolate is not to blame must be the baby Grin

MiniPenguinMaker · 02/04/2013 17:06

MightBeMad, like you I had put on barely any weight until recently, but have put on around 10 lb now - 2 lb each week! Ouch! And maybe I am deluding myself but I really don't think I'm eating that differently.

MiniPenguinMaker · 02/04/2013 17:13

Hugs to you, Phie - that must be tough. I know that when my husband and I split up, it was hard on my family as he is a really lovely guy and they felt they were losing a member of the family.

SlouchingPanda, I have been lol-ing all over the place at the hoovering up a tampon thing. I'd just been thinking yesterday that it had been bliss not to have had a period in such a long time!

Thinkingof4 · 02/04/2013 17:52

Hi all, hope everyone enjoyed Easter weekend and isn't too sick of chocolate yet

phie you sound like a lovely sister, hope things are bit less stressful soon

Re weight gain, I've not weighed myself for quite a few weeks now, but tbh I don't feel too enormous yet, but maybe I'm just too used to being pregnant. Heartburn is my main problem at the moment, have asked midwife to ask GP for a prescription for the proper stuff as normal gaviscon not doing much any more. I don't think all the chocolate is helping mind you Blush

27+0 today, third trimester here I come!

dinkystinky · 02/04/2013 19:58

Thinking - sorry you're suffering from heartburn. The only thing that seemed to work for me with ds1 was eating little and often - gaviscon didn't touch it.

oh i cant help but comment on the weight thing - i am miserbale at the sudden inability to LOOK at a crumb without putting it on my hips...

i found www.calculator.net/pregnancy-weight-gain-calculator.html?ctype=standard&pstage=23&twins=0&cheightfeet=5&cheightinch=7&cpoundbefore=133&cheightmeter=165&ckgbefore=50&x=41&y=14 this link which has appeased me somewhat!

I couldn't care less about weight gain but giving birth mid summer wont help me feel good afterwards so i have to TRY now!!

AmaDablam · 03/04/2013 07:08

Morning....

Just wanted to say thanks for the handy weight link thing iclaudius. I've put on just over a stone (I think - I rarely weighed myself pre-pg so taking a guess at what my weight was then) which puts me right at the top of the recommended gain for 24 weeks, but not above it thank goodness. I haven't gained in a nice steady manner like the chart suggests though, it's all gone on since about week 16 Shock at which point I was desperately willing the scales to go up whilst they stubbornly refused to budge! Unlike others I can't claim that my diet hasn't changed - I've been eating like a pig the last few weeks. Thinking it's time to reign it in a bit maybe, but then surely I should listen to my body when it says it's hungry?!

24+3

dinkystinky · 03/04/2013 09:01

Look ladies - if you're eating a healthy diet, leading an active lifestyle and looking after yourself and your baby to be, if you're putting on weight dont worry - you're 6 months pregnant and you're meant to! If you cant ignore the scales when you're growing another human being in you, when can you? If however you are a hairy handed trucker called Neil, (a) you shouldnt be stacking on the weight and (b) you shouldnt be on this board - that aint a baby in there, that's pies! And yes Ama, listen to your body but try to make healthy balanced choices - abit of chocolate/cake etc in moderation is fine, so is abit of veg/fruit/protein.

Everyone carries their pregnancy differently and everyone bounces back from pregnancy at different timescales - I've had friends who havent put on any weight, others who have put on 5 stone. They've all recovered their equilibrium and got back to their pre-pregnancy weights and figures with time and exercise, so please dont sweat it too much.

Here endeth the lecture

Hope you're ok Phie. I can imagine being really upset over something like this; think it's human not to be. Hope you have somebody who's outside the family circle to talk it over with in RL.

Still getting people telling me I don't even look pregnant when to me it is so blimmin obvious! I agree I definitely am not large for the stage I'm at. However, when I googled 'baby bump 26 weeks' I was pleasantly surprised to find people with even smaller bumps than me! Think people sometimes presume every pregnant lady past the first trimester will look huge.

Anybody else struggling with an achey bum and thighs at night?? It's really got worse the past few nights and struggling to get comfy. Have resorted to folded over duvet under me and experimenting with shoving pillows in various places. Think I need to get back to the yoga as not done much in the way of stretching recently. Can't tell if running and walking in the day exacerbates it or makes it better.

BB01 · 03/04/2013 09:10

On the positive side (anybody else feel like they only come on here to moan when in RL they're quite positive??) have bought our pushchair. After months of umming and ahhing we've opted for the iCandy Cherry as it seems to be all we want and love how lightweight and manoeuvrable it is. Did get tempted by the more ££ iCandies but knew deep down they weren't quite what we wanted. Am very happy with it so far. Seems so easy to operate despite the 2-part fold.

dinkystinky · 03/04/2013 09:11

Is ache at back of bum and into top of thighs BB01? If so, it sounds like it might be the start of sciatica - positioning can help and the yoga will definitely help.

Morning all.

Woke up again this morning and with another cold!! I swear someone just has to sniff next to me and i catch it, anyone else feel like this?

Really didn't want another one so soon after the scare last time, it went in mt chest and was finding it hard to breathe so i got it checked out at the docs and she did my obs but said my heart rate was 210!!! So had to go get a second opinion, turned out everything was find although they couldn't tell me why that had happened, was a tad scary at the time tho.

4d scan in 1 week and 1 day now, excited for that :)

Ooo and in other news tell me if you think this is mad but should be moving house quite soon! Into a 2\3 bed house with garden, will be great because ds has never had his own garden :)
Although when i told DM that i wanted to move before DD arrives in July she thought i was mad, what do you reckon?

anyways hope all of you are well
25➕5

MightBeMad · 03/04/2013 10:18

Hai - I moved last time at 34 weeks. Was exhausting but definitely better than moving with a tiny baby i think. and it will be lovely for DS to have a garden to play in Smile

Dinky Grin at the morning lecture Grin I know I shouldn't worry too much, but last time around I put on more weight than I needed to/was good for me psychologically because I allowed myself to make poor food choices (I ate the good stuff, I just ate too many 'treats' too!) and not take enough exercise (though there were medical reasons/fears behind that). This time around I'd promised myself I was going to be more diligent for the benefit of the baby and myself. Time to pull my socks up I think. On refelction, the weight increase has suddenly come on while I was ill and on steroids so I think that has something to do with it. Now I'm feeling a bit better I am going to get back on track and if the weight increase continues apace despite sensible eating and regular exercise then it is just meant to be!

Phie, hope you're feeling better this morning after spending the night away from the problem?

BB01 I get the same acheyness and for me it seems to be better when I've done gentle exercise and stretches in the day and not spent too long sitting.

24+1

dinkystinky · 03/04/2013 10:32

Hai - you'll be fine moving and will be nice for you and DS to have a garden he can play in while you're sitting with the baby in the early days. I'd definitely recommend getting professional movers in - we used to move ourselves pre-kids but post kids its professional movers all the way in the dinky household. Hope your cold shifts soon.

Fair enough Mightbe - glad you're feeling better. I feel better for me when I exercise - dispels stress, increases concentration and lessens aches and pains. As I said up thread, I've stacked on the weight despite eating healthier than usual and exercising 5 times a week (2 cardio, 2 pilates/yoga, one PT session) so it was clearly simply meant to be.

whitedaffodil · 03/04/2013 12:42

hey all, thanks vinegar for your comments re: blood tests last week :-)

loved the motivational talk too dinky. I'm also "ahead" on the weight chart Grin but only by about 2.5 kilos and normal for me includes putting on about 3 -5 kg over the winter months that seems to go in summer without trying to lose weight. So much easier to eat well when the weather is warmer and salad, grapes and lovely summer fruits are in season!

Got my bounty pack from boots yesterday and was really surprised at there being only one baby thing in it. I was rather hoping for a couple of different kinds of disposable nappies to try on a teddy, that sort of thing. There was a full size Simple moisturiser though which is generous, a sample of washing liquid and the baby item was a baby bath towel (it's OK, a bit thin). Lots of ads, pamphlets etc. too.

bigbelly4 · 03/04/2013 13:07

Well said about weight dinky - I have no idea how much i weigh now, and TBH dont really care, as its clear i'm not whacking the weight on. I swim, walk the dog and generally eat healthily so if i fancy a take away or my body weight in wisper bars i will have it and be more sensible the next day. Everything in moderation.

Anyway, on a more positive note - those of you talking about baby slings - I have just picked up a baba sling from boots as it is on offer at £31.99 rather than £40 - if you have your extra points tokens - that helps too! We have a baby bjorn one aswell but i like that with the bab sling a newborn is fully supported. Will use both though.

Anyone watch 16kids and counting last night? it's the first time i watched it and was gobsmacked! I know im on no 4 but no way on this earth will i end up with that many children. I just cant see how its far on the children to have that many! (just my opinion, am sure it suites other people!)

notprincesskate · 03/04/2013 13:29

Ahhhhhhhhhhh I have just looked at that pregnancy weight gain chart and I'm already seriously off the scale Shock, but also read dinky sermon of the day and in the end I know I'm prone to weight gain, I did lose it last time, and I'm not sure it's quite the right time for me to worry about it ...........but still, off the scale Blush

photographerlady · 03/04/2013 14:20

TotallyEggFlipped , MightBeMad , dinkystinky I hear you on the big front. Today like 4 people at work who work in the building but not for my company have said "so are you pregnant" today. I really popped out now. Part of me wanted to joke and say "ofc not!" but then I know how heart stopping that could be hehe.

Aww Hai1988 could it be early allergies?

bigbelly4 I found Victoria SlingLady which is also a nice sling place, its about 50% off the price of a Mobywrap but pretty much the same thing. I picked up one to have as backup and going to my local slingmeet to rent another brand to try before the LO is here.

TotallyEggFlipped · 03/04/2013 15:23

Hai we're hoping to move before DC arrives too - we just haven't managed to find anywhere yet.

My belly is feeling really tight and overstretched today. There doesn't seem to be any room left inside me at all! (I think there might be a bit of wind in there making things worse. I've been pretty windy lately Blush)

Cheeseandbread · 03/04/2013 15:30

Dinky loved the health chat this morning. Very sensible. I still have plenty of Easter eggs to munch through st the mo... I'll balance it out with salad later on in the summer... Still find I'm eating more but reckon my body is just telling me what I need. I went through a milk craving session the other week but reckoned it was LO lettings know bones were being made or something.

Phie I'm so sorry about your brother in law- hope you are in a better place after some space. Here is a good place to vent.

We bought curatins and a chest of draws for bean's room at the weekend which made me very happy. Also think we have decided on a pushchair: the uppababy vista... It seems to have/do everything we want and nearly fits in our small car (if you take the wheels off). Just need to take the plunge and actually buy it now...

I handed in my mat leave forms finally and have decided to go off at 35 weeks which I think is a more sensible choice than the 38 weeks DH wanted me to work up until. Even the head advised me that teaching at 37/8 weeks would be tough (I expected her to tell me to work until the end!) so I'm happy with my decision.

24+4 (did my viability dance on sat Grin

BB01 · 03/04/2013 16:21

Hai, oh what a pain - hope you feel better soon. Pre-pregnancy I was just like that. Constantly catching colds. Thought I'd be even worse when PG as was told the immune system is weakened. However since getting pregnant I've not had a cold once (except flu v v early on - before I found out). Strange! Good luck with the house move.

Dinky, the pain is in pretty much my whole bum and thighs. It's much more of a very bad ache rather than any shooting or sharp pains. Also read that usually when sciatica is diagnosed in pregnancy it's often actually SPD. Sounds like it may be hard to pinpoint exactly what it is. But yes, will persist with the yoga. Glad it seems to help, MightBeMad. Yes, my job is unfortunately desk bound nearly all day and often physically can't get away as am sitting with people in appointments. Keep trying to do subtle stretches under my desk!

Baby was kicking so much in a meeting today was struggling to keep a straight face. Could see my belly moving out the corner of my eye and it was almost painful the kicks were so hard!

Was very excited earlier as, for the first time ever, somebody quizzically looked at my belly and asked if I was PG. Hurrah!!!

Persuasion · 03/04/2013 16:31

hai I got a few bad colds at the beginning, but it seems to have settled down a bit now. Your last one sounds quite scary but at least it all settled down ok. Hopefully this one won't be so dramatic!

totally I also have had that stretched feeling this week, for me it always seems to coincide with feeling really hungry for a few days before, I've been wondering if it's chip having a growth spurt?

phie sorry you're having so much to deal with at the moment Flowers There's been some really good advice on this thread, and it sounds like you're managing it well considering.

About weight gain - I'm in the middle of where I should be according to the chart, but I definitely haven't gained it evenly from week to week, in fact I lost weight in the 1st trimester. I'm trying not to worry about it too much, and just be sensible, but I figure my body knows what it's doing, I can lose weight afterwards, and the most important thing is keeping it all healthy.

I don't have any interesting news to impart, just pottering on at work for now. I think I'm going to stop 2 1/2 weeks before my due date, but should be ok as my job is almost all sitting down. I can't imagine working that long in an active job line teaching, I think I'd definitely be stopping sooner!

Only other news is that I have my next scan next wednesday, I've really got my fingers crossed that all is well and she's grown plenty! Then it's my anti-D on Friday.

27+0 Grin

MightBeMad · 03/04/2013 17:16

I'll keep everything crossed for a good scan persuasion!
