Oh goodness Ama I was trying not to think about it being less than four months until I have a real live Small Person to look after.

Supershiv1 · 21/03/2013 21:25

Hi all.
Feeling a bit pooh. Had my re-scan today and babies 'long bones' are measuring short for weeks, about 2 weeks short compared to head. Under 5th percentile (it may sound like I know what I am on about, I don't).
Been referred to Liverpool women's hospital FMU to see a consultant.
I only said to DH last night that this baby us being so awkward at scans that I wouldn't be surprised if it was hiding something.
Didn't have nt measurements in the end as baby was in wrong position twice.
Anyone got any experience of this?

dinkystinky · 21/03/2013 21:33

Shiv - ((hugs)). Not had any experience but friends have had scans/referrals for slow growth and all has been fine in the end - their babies have been petite but perfectly formed and hit all milestones right on target. Hope your appt comes through soon and your mind is put at rest.

Hi Supershiv. Sounds stressful for you.
Not sure if it's what you mean, but DD's femur length was well off the bottom of the centile line when she was scanned. She measured small generally, but her femur length was always way, way below everything else. In the end she had IUGR, but actually was fine and not as small as they were expecting from any of the scans. I don't think her legs look particularly short and DH is a bit short legged if you ask me but she's definitely never going to be tall. Smile

dinkystinky · 21/03/2013 21:43

Also Shiv there's a reason why there are so many percentiles - babies (and people!) come in all shapes and sizes. Please try not to worry too much.

Cheeseandbread · 21/03/2013 22:42

Loving all the birthing stories! not at all scared honest

Supershiv it sounds like others on here know what they are talking about- fingers crossed all goes well at your next scan.

Shattered today- we had an Arts evening at school where the kids were performing different dances and songs we've been working on aswell as showing off diffeent work in class. A lot of effort to get ready but the kids did well; I was very proud of them. Even got a few nice comments from parents... Which is always nice- especially after a 13+ hour day. I think I've got adrenaline pumping round my body still as I'm normally asleep well before now.

Haven't felt much movement lately but trying not to worry as have an anterior placenta.

Morning all. Some reason I woke up with bags of energy today singing to my DH on the way to the train station. I still am a little worried as I am due for a good weekly blubbering. Maybe I need to put on a Pixar movie tonight and get it all out my system before my birthday tomorrow.

shiv sorry I can not offer any advice only ((hugs)). Glad some of the other ladies can aid you a bit more on here.

Morning all! Doing the viability dance this end today Grin it feels so good!

Shiv I'm a first timer so no experience but from what everyone's saying these measurements don't necessarily mean anything. Makes sense to me - we're all different shapes and sizes after all!

I have two questions:

  1. anyone else feeling "heavy" in your lower abdomen when you pee?

  2. all day yesterday I swear little ones head was pushing up and making me uncomfortable. Just how high can they get themselves atm?

It's so nice being able to check things with other people at the same stage Smile

Ah, that sounds lovely Cheese. I love going to see DS1 and DS2 doing songs/dances and their art work - unfortunately the school normally does this stuff in the early afternoon so often I cant make it, so its lovely you did an Arts evening for the parents. I hope it was well attended.

Photographer - sounds to me like you're feeling better!

MysteryMeg - do you have a bump now? The uterus presses on the bladder as it gets bigger so it can give the heavy feeling you're talking about. I have no idea how high up they can get - my bump is enormous (I've had 2 people ask if I'm due today - I told them to wait 3 months and see how enormous I will be by then!) but I have no idea where the uterus ends. However as it expands it can squash your other organs making you uncomfortable.

Shiv - all measurements within the centile lines are normal aren't they? Just at different ends of the spectrum. I really hope you get a reassuring scan soon.

Meg - I feel very heavy down below then. I think it's the position of sitting on the loo and releasing the pelvic floor muscles - everything feels so heavy (and painful!!).

Photo - Yey for a good happy day!!

Abzs · 22/03/2013 10:39

meg yes and yes. Small quite regularly seems to push its bottom up and out. In my case, as I look down, bottom is top right and head lower left.

TotallyEasterEggFlipped · 22/03/2013 12:04

Shiv and MightBe the centile lines are 5th to 95th percentile, so even if you're measurements are off the end, they can be 'normal'.

elliejjtiny · 22/03/2013 13:04

shiv hope you get a reassuring scan soon. I've never had a baby measuring small but mine tend to have short legs in comparison to the other measurements.

Midwife appointment today. She went on about how the GTT is really important so I'm being booked in next saturday, dreading it as I'm really awkward to get blood from and still throwing up most days which will no doubt be made worse by fasting. We talked about the birth. Homebirth is a definate no-no and a paediatrician needs to be on standby when baby is born. We're going to discuss the finer details at my 36 week appointment. I'm hoping it will be DS2's paediatrician who is there as I already know her. The midwife was very positive about delayed cord clamping. I asked about avoiding the postnatal ward and she said most likely we would either be discharged from labour ward or baby would be on scbu and I'd be in a private room so hopefully I won't have to go on the postnatal ward.

Just watched that BBC Healthcheck link. Quite interesting, especially as hip dysplasia runs in my mum's family.

bigbelly4 · 22/03/2013 13:30

shiv - ditto what everyone says really, thinking of you and hope you get the reassurance you need soon.

Did anyone watch Home deliveries on tv last night? TBH i'm really torn about a homebirth, a huge part of me would love one (may have an unplanned of if baby is in a rush again) but there is also a huge part of me that cant move past the what if stage.

MW thankfully gets where I'm coming from and has suggested that i book a hospital birth but also have a home delivery pack and details of on call midwives - just in case.

I'm more nervous about my DH not being on hand and my kids having to see and deal with it all (although there are desperate to see it, especially 8 yr old). Maybe should have given this more thought before getting preggers Hmm

trustissues75 · 22/03/2013 13:30

Afternoon all

shiv - glad you're being referred but don't worry too much, I'm sure it will be ok - but worrying is understandable too so big hugs to you.

Meg - I often feel very heavy in that area too - think it's just bubs pressing on bladder.

I hit viability yesterday - yay! Not much to report really. Still procrastinating over getting maternity clothes.

Ooh, I watched it!!!!!!

It was great - loved it.

Home - birther here.

Supershiv1 · 22/03/2013 14:43

Hello. F
Feel more reflective than yesterday, you really are a reassuring lot and it does go a long way, SO THANK YOU.
L/pool womens just called I have an appointment at 10:30 on Thursday. I am egging Ribena on for a leggy/army growth spurt before then. Please do the same and send him a mumsnet growth spurt.
None of the scans I have had have been made easy by the massive fibroid that I have in there.

I had a different appointment with my local hospital today because my BMI at booking was 31. Despite not putting on any actual weight since then I have to have a GTT thing at 28 weeks.
The local hospital was very interested in how my midwife system works (I have gone with the trial NHS dedicated private midwifes on the Wirral). They tried to get me into their FMU to save the journey to Liverpool but didn't have an appt for 3 wks. So I am going back with my Liverpool scan results in 4 wks. I will end up with 3 sets of notes at this rate!
They also did a urine test that showed 3+leuc and 1-eryth so have sent to the lab to check for infection.
Not sure if any of this is connected!

Home births - if all OK I think I do want to go for it, but may chicken out nearer the time. Wink

mystery re how high can the head go - at scan yesterday Ribena's head was up near my belly button. I couldn't believe it!

dinkystinky · 22/03/2013 14:49

Supershiv - Glad you're feeling better today. I've had to have GTTs at 28 weeks for all 3 of my pregnancies in London - nothing to do with BMI as was within the "normal" parameters at booking in for all 3, it seems to be the norm with the hospitals I'm booked in with. Hoping Ribena has a nice growth spurt for you before Thursday.

Ellie - hopefully you'll be able to get a home away from home birth experience at the hospital with supportive MWs - and get sent home with the little one really quickly. Postnatal wards arent much fun at all but if you do end up in one, just take music/headphones, ear plugs and your own food and pillows and you'll be fine.

Trust re maternity clothes DO IT - I'm only 21+5 but have just bought them - dp said 'why aren't you wearing them?' I said I don't feel big enough or confidant enough yet

However I read someone on here saying 'get the bloody things on' you spend the money on them- even if I wore them everyday I'd only get 26?weeks out of three pairs of jeans and a dress - seems madness!

dinkystinky · 22/03/2013 15:25

Trust, iclaudius - you dont need to be big to wear maternity wear or confident, just desperate for something that's comfortable Grin

trustissues75 · 22/03/2013 16:41

I do need to order...I think part of it is that I hate buying clothes online - not that I try them on in the shop anyway (I can't stand trying on clothes) but it's kind of like e-books I suppose - I prefer to get up close, touch look, walk around...before I buy. I suppose that's why I haven't gotten any yet...
