Fantastic news mother, am so happy for you Smile

Alexandra6 · 04/04/2013 21:36

Woop that's brilliant mother! Find it really hard to read happy scan stories without wanting to burst into tears! Such an emotional wreck right now Grin

MotherOfCleo · 04/04/2013 21:37

thanks janey feels much more real now Smile

On another note, Ive had a feeling that its a girl, not said anything to OH. Then on the way home he said he thinks its a girl....odd huh.

Cavort · 04/04/2013 21:46

Congrats Zombies and welcome to team pink or team trying to avoid pink as much as possible along with anything with a stupid slogan. Grin

And great news Mother. I know it's still early days but once a heartbeat has been detected the chances of any problems are so much lower.
Would you prefer a girl? I had a definite preference towards a girl and I really couldn't fathom out why (and still can't). I had completely convinced myself it was a boy by the time we found out at 17 weeks and was quite shocked when it turned out to be a girl. I would like to think if she turned out to be a he I would be just as pleased with a blue one.

I am excited to meet our son, but honestly still a bit Envy at team pink. Congratulations to both of you!

Cavort · 04/04/2013 21:58

Team pink for baby number 2 Hazle? Wink

OP posts:
MotherOfCleo · 04/04/2013 21:58

Thats what Im hoping cavort, Id be happy with either but would prefer pink I think Wink

HazleNutt · 04/04/2013 22:11

We'll see how we manage with this one first.

Purplemonster · 04/04/2013 23:05

Oh fabulous news Mother and Zombies! Good scan news always cheers me up!

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 05/04/2013 09:38

I am of the brights for all kids brigade, and hate gender stereotyping with colours, but have to admit that I have added a couple of pink things to my eBay watch list... Blush
No idea what that emoticon translates to on the computer but on the phone it manages to look like a cross of gobsmacked and abashed Smile

BraveLilBear · 05/04/2013 09:53

Yay for happy scan news!

So here's a question for all the coloured team members... does your colour ring true with skull theory from your 12 week scan?

I'm now in a new camp - one of being slightly scared about either a girl or a boy... I wouldn't know what to do with either! Confused

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 05/04/2013 09:55

[feeling stupid] what is skull theory? I had heard of nub theory...

Cavort · 05/04/2013 10:13

Skull Theory

Zombies, no matter how hard you try it's practically impossible to avoid some gender stereotyping when buying baby clothes unless you want your baby girl to be naked most of the time. I have found that M&S and Sainsbury's babygrows are not quite as pink and girly as others.

Brave, my Sister's 12 week scan picture is absolutely identical to mine in terms of skull shape. Hers is a boy and mine is a girl. Maybe mine is a really ugly girl? Grin

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 05/04/2013 10:19

I agree, I hate gender stereotyping but even if you do your best, it's really difficult to get anything gender neutral (that's also not plain white). DS will have some pink clothes as well though, DH wears pink so why not DS.

Checked my hospital list, according to that I have to bring both "peignoir" and "robe de chambre", listed as 2 separate items. Only trouble is that I don't know what the difference is, both look like bath robes to me. Now where can I get some nice, thin (it will be hot in June) and dark coloured bath robes? I like the waffle ones, but those only seem to come in white.

HazleNutt · 05/04/2013 10:22

Oh just found, M&S has some - mostly in men's section but who cares, same thing.

Cavort · 05/04/2013 12:21

Quite typically, following yesterday's Count the Kicks discussion, baby decided to test me this morning by remaining completely still from the time of me waking up until just now, when I resorted to a whole pint of freezing cold fruit smoothie and now she is so high on sugar she is doing somersaults in there, the little monkey.

Very naughty of her Cavort, but that's the way they are, testing our nerves before they are even born. I've had some long, worrying silences previously, but just before I panic, he starts dancing around again.

I think I've found our coming home outfit, from here:
www.petit-bateau.fr/e-shop/na-c21/1/nouveaute-bleue.html
I know, ridiculous prices, but considering that I've bought almost everything else second-hand, he could have one fancy outfit, I think. And I love stripes.

janey1234 · 05/04/2013 14:10

Yes, they are indeed naughty. After saying mine doesn't wake me in the night, guess who was kept awake from 4.30am to 6.30am by all the wriggling?!

I know I am full of questions at the moment (apologies) but I can't remember what everyone is doing about push chairs. DP and I can't quite agree, but both liked the icandy peach. He quite liked the three wheeled jogger, and I quite liked the avocado colour (ha, that sounds ridiculous) as a gender-neutral option. I have to say it was exceptionally easy to push around, we both liked it actually. We're meeting DSIL tomorrow as she's a pram expert to get her advice, but just wondered if any of you knew anything about it at all?

hazle - my folks have a place in France, and I LOVE that baby shop, have bought my niece and nephew a lot of gorgeous clothes there. Perfect going home outfit I think.

Alexandra6 · 05/04/2013 14:37

That baby shop has lovely stuff on the link! Wish I was at the baby shopping stage.

DH was talking about the baby this morning and kept saying 'he' - I laughed and asked him why and he said he has a feeling - already! Funnily enough I keep saying 'he' too. Am imagining this little girl baby bursting out at 9 months shouting "stop calling me he!!" Grin I don't mind either way, a girl would be nice as I'm close to my mum and always hoped I'd have that relationship, but a boy would be great too.

Alexandra6 · 05/04/2013 14:38

Oh and janey I know nothing about prams yet, but maybe one that can be put into the car as a car seat, someone was recommending that to me.

janey1234 · 05/04/2013 14:50

Basically Alex, what you need is one that is adaptable to take a maxi-cosi car seat. Basically they're the gold standard of car seats, ridiculously safe, and have adapters that enable them to clip into most brands of push chairs, so you can take a sleeping baby out and put them into the push chair frame IYSWIM. I think the adaptors for the iCandy to take maxicosi is about £30-40. So generally you just buy the pushchair you want, and the car seat you want, and make sure they're compatible.

Cavort · 05/04/2013 14:50

I'm not sure any of us know that much about prams/pushchairs at the moment, but I agree it's a bit of a 'mare choosing one! We went to John Lewis a few times and pushed all their display ones around, but it ended up boiling down to which we liked the look/colour of most. Blush On a more practical note, we did make sure we got one with decent wheels and suspension for when we're off-roading with the dog.

We've gone for the Uppababy Vista in Carlin Green, which I managed to get on a deal with a Cabriofix car seat included and a free foot muff all for the same price as the RRP of the pushchair on its own.

FWIW the Oracle that is Which? says this about the iCandy Peach;

The iCandy Peach is one of the most popular travel system pushchairs around, not least because you can convert to add a second seat when your next baby arrives. Does it deserve its place as a top pushchair for yummy-mummies? We sent it for tough durability, safety and usability tests to find out .

The iCandy Peach travel system is a user-friendly Best Buy that did well in all our tests. It's a pleasure to push whether you're on smooth or rough ground, and the comfortable seat ensures your baby gets a smooth ride, even on bumpy terrain.

Second seat can be added
If you're planning for a bigger family, the versatile Peach can be updated into the Peach Blossom - this allows you to add a second seat when the next baby arrives.

You can convert the pushchair into a travel system by fitting a Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix car seat. See our full child car seats review for more details.

Reversible seat
The reversible main seat unit is suitable from six months, so we'd recommend you buy a compatible carrycot if you want your newborn to lie flat.

The seat unit has a fixed angle back rest, and the whole thing tips back in one piece with a choice of three positions; it's adjusted by pressing buttons on either side of the seat, which is quite easy to do, but takes two hands.

Adjustable hood
We loved the adjustable hood. It slides up and down to give more or less cover, and has side and rear viewing windows, so you can keep an eye on your little one from any angle.

The large rear wheels have a quick release mechanism so you can take them off quickly to help it fit into a car boot when folded. There's a useful carrying strap that allows the chassis to be carried over your shoulder, but at 14.4kg you probably won't want to carry it far.

Good for getting around town
Our testers thought this pushchair would be a good choice for a trip to the shops as it's not too bulky to use on public transport, and the large 5kg storage basket is easy to access, even with the seat fully reclined.

It comes in a wide range of fashionable colours which change every year.

Do you already own this pushchair?
If you do, click the customer views tab - above the picture - and tell us what you think of it.

Pros: Handles well, excellent on rough terrain, generous storage basket, can be converted for two babies

Cons: Heavy, seat may be too small for bigger children

janey1234 · 05/04/2013 14:57

Ah, that's the other brand cavort - cabriofix. It's that or maxicosi you want for a car seat, isn't it?
Thanks SO much for the which review - v much appreciated! x

janey1234 · 05/04/2013 14:58

Or is a cabriofix a maxi cosi? Lordy, all I know is that DSIL mentioned it as one to get!

Cavort · 05/04/2013 15:02

Yes the Cabriofix is a Maxi-Cosi which you can use with an Isofix base, which is only compatible with group 0 car seats, or you can use it with a (more expensive) Familyfix base, which is compatible with all groups of car seats so will last longer. Or you can use it without a base but it's not as safe.

It's taken me ages to get my head around the above information, it's just so confusing for a novice to understand!
