Oops, seems we ran out of room without noticing!

Thanks Janey any words of comfort gratefully received! And I'm not organised at all, I've got a handful of babygrows and a pram, that's IT. Really ought to start thinking about buying some other stuff...

Cavort · 25/03/2013 10:34

It does seem to vary from shop to shop Purple. I would have said 7.5lbs is pretty average for an newborn - at least I bloody well hope I don't have a 10 pounder! Hmm

I am feeling pretty organised now Janey probably a good job f I am heading towards SPD misery. I have even bought some Magicool for when I am in labour as everyone keeps telling me how hot they were.

If anyone's interested, Tesco Direct currently have 25% off Grobags until the 27th March. I've just ordered one. And Sainsbury's still have 1/3 off their baby stuff.

I've been worrying about that cavort too - have been going to hospital for physio and it's been BOILING in Feb/Mar - what will it be like in July?! Maternity wards are apparently renowned for being boiling as well...

Right, lots to organise. Will get on with it at lunchtime must not get distracted thinking about weddings, and instead focus on imminent baby

Purplemonster · 25/03/2013 11:02

Oh gosh I can't imagine trying to think about a wedding as well, we've said we're going to leave the wedding for at least a couple of yearsif he lives that long
I've got a few days off work and not really sure what to do with myself as I can't really move much so could be a good time to do some Internet baby stuff research/shopping.

BraveLilBear · 25/03/2013 11:03

Morning all. So sorry to hear of the growing list of injuries... I'm also a possible contender for PGP fun I fear, after another night of disrupted sleep with hip pain. I see my GP next week for my 24 week check so hoping he'll be able to shed some light.

And you never know, he may even lift my doing-anything-interesting ban.

Ooooooh congratulations Janey so excited! What a lovely way to get engaged Grin so that's a newborn AND a wedding to plan for, yay!

We had a very productive weekend (tho not on that scale) - first, accidentally bought some newborn nappies in Asda - a couple of packets to get us through the first few days (and check they fit) - the Little Angels range are something like £3.19 for 40, and they're well rated so we thought we'd give them a try.

Then went on to get a changing mat from Mothercare which which will match the room and be just right for our lovely Team Green Baby Bear.

Was impressed with the amount of gender neutral stuff in there actually, found it quite a relief. Tho haven't gone down the route of buying anything yet. We've also narrowed down our pushchair/pram choices ready for me to talk to my folks about over Easter (they've both individually offered to buy it, and I've now convinced OH to let them buy it between them to make them feel involved - result).

Also ended up in HObbycraft and saw they have a new range of papier mache 'bases' including letters and numbers - so we've decided to get some numbers and put them on the wall... and baby's name, too. Maybe a big moneypig too!

In other news, Baby Bear has discovered some new tricks this last few days - proper karate kicks, now with added diaphragm/bladder aim! Smile

And, shocking TMI development. Remember the word upthread about grey hair takeovers? Well mine isn't content with my head hair. Was doing some 'gardening' over the weekend and discovered that, almost overnight, nearly all of my pubes have gone grey Shock Blush

No-one told me this was part of the bargain!!!

Cavort · 25/03/2013 11:04

You have tons of time to sort your wedding Grin out afterwards Janey. Focus on the task at hand!

OP posts:
Cavort · 25/03/2013 11:08

Grey pubes REALLY??? Now I have NEVER heard that pregnancy symptom! Grin

Which pram are you thinking? I ordered mine on Saturday and ended up getting a deal where the car seat ended up costing £17 instead of £100.

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 25/03/2013 11:09

Bear, I can empathise, nuff said Blush

HazleNutt · 25/03/2013 11:09

Cavort as I need to go back to work after the ridiculously short leave, I will probably be expressing anyway. Best pump according to reviews seems to be the Medela. Again, Shock at the price, it better be worth it.

Have the pram and car seat, was just considering ordering the Babybay bed that I want, but then again, we won't need it til end of June and it's delivered in a couple of days, so no hurry really. A friend who has a baby really recommended it as well.
A pregnant colleague resolutely said that her baby will sleep in a separate room from the birth! Of course this can work, but as much as I've listened to people who already have babies, the novelty of getting up and walking to the nursery 20 times per night wears off quite quickly.

janey Weddings are in a way, similar to having a baby. Everybody and their uncle will have an opinion. I swear we almost eloped, when the 20th person suggested that maybe we should not... and instead it would be so much better if we would...and it's not really a good date/location, it would be much more convenient for them if we could to it then and there instead and oh, have we considered.. And we had a tiny wedding with closest family and friends only!

(good news is that in the end, everybody though it was lovely).

Purplemonster · 25/03/2013 11:17

Well eloping is pretty much my plan Hazle! We're planning on taking the kids on holiday and getting married abroad and not inviting anyone else. Assuming I still want to marry him by then which is currently somewhat questionable.

Right I'd better go spend my day off doing housework against medical advice but given that I don't have a house pixie and my OH is a wanker it doesn't seem like I've got much choice. Ice cream for lunch anyone?

janey1234 · 25/03/2013 11:18

Grey pubes?! Lordy, why does nobody tell us this sort of stuff?! I haven't noticed that at all but will obv have to take a peek later!

purple - think the wedding will be next year, DP is adamant that we get hitched before I'm 40, which worryingly, is in November 2014. Maybe he's worried about me dying first, given the big age difference! Grin At one point he suggested getting married whilst I was on maternity leave - I've said no: going back to work after a baby AND a wedding would, I'd imagine, make me feel suicidal. Instead I've suggested late summer/autumn - so I would be back to work with something to look forward to and plenty of time to lose my current whale-esque proportions
and that makes me wonder if we ought to at least think about venues soon-ish....

hazle - I guessed as much. Not looking forward to that part AT ALL. My mum already did a raised eyebrows thing when I said that to keep numbers down on our side of the family (I have a large family, and am very close to all my cousins - whereas DP will only probably invite his mum and brothers, who don't have partners) I wouldn't invite my brother's inlaws, or my DSIL's brother's wife's mother. She made a lot of disapproving noises about how that might go down. Quite frankly, I don't care (especially about the latter) but I'm not sure that saying that is the 'done thing'....

Cavort · 25/03/2013 11:29

Purple you do make me laugh! Grin

FWIW I agree with Hazle in that every man and his dog will have an opinion on your wedding, whether you want it or not. I would advise to decide early on the basics of what you want and then stand your ground.

Neither of us wanted a big wedding but it still managed to escalate into 60 guests because of people you feel like you have to invite. Our first guest list was just parents, grandparents, siblings and DSD.

We did stand our ground that we didn't want an evening reception though even though there were a few noses out of joint about it. We got married at 12.30, had photos then a formal wedding breakfast at 2.30.... and then at 6pm we went straight from the wedding to a festival with me still in the dress (with a quick change of footwear to wellies) and 25 of our guests and we had an absolute blast! So my wedding reception was in a friend's caravan awning at a festival. Grin

janey1234 · 25/03/2013 11:34

cavort that sounds amazing!! Just did a list of my family I'd want to invite (including cousin's partners who I'd feel obliged to invite) and that's 24 people alone, before I've even started on friends. Argh. I would love a small wedding but realistically, it's not going to happen. I think if I add just my very closest friends in, with their partners, my half will be a minimum of about 50 people I'd assume. If he invited the same, that really isn't a small wedding.

Think I'm going to stop thinking about this now. Stressing me out!

purple - chuck some ice cream this way please, and in exchange I'll send over the housework pixie Wink

Purplemonster · 25/03/2013 11:38

Deal!

Cavort · 25/03/2013 11:41

Ah, you've made me reminisce about our wedding now and i'm grinning away.... which makes me feel like we got it spot on for us even though it wasn't everybody's cup of tea. I might upload a photo of me in my wedding dress and wellies. Smile

Oh, and we got married 7 months after getting engaged so you've got loads of time!

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 25/03/2013 11:52

We got engaged on New Years Eve and didn't do any planning til spring - wedding was in July.

But then again, we didn't do any of the 1001 "mandatory" items on a wedding to do list. I read some of those, apparently I was supposed to pick a wedding colour theme and worry if chair covers match the candle ribbons. Or something. Quite similar to the "have you henna tattooed your bump yet?" pregnancy lists.

BraveLilBear · 25/03/2013 12:16

Re housework pixie loan... I think I'm succombing to nesting. Already. Have suddenly developed an alarming hitherto non-existent lack of tolerance for low-level dirt.

Sunday morning, unloaded dishwasher, hand washed all pots and non-dw stuff, wiped all surfaces down (including splashbacks, and kettle), emptied bins and recycling and swept the floor - all before breakfast! I'm not scruffy - I'll clean when it needs it, but can usually walk past somehting and note it for later. I can't any more. This is not normal for me. OH (who has always been this way inclined) is delighted.

I am utterly bemused. This can't be nesting, can it?

Cavort your wedding sounds amazing. What a fab way to spend a special day!

Cavort · 25/03/2013 12:16

I was planning our wedding at the same time as a girl at work who was planning hers costing 35k and mostly paid for by parents.

A typical conversation would go,

"Are you getting him a gift for the wedding day?"
"No, I'm marrying him. It's not his birthday."
"Oh right, I've told mine I want a Mulberry."

WTF is that all about? Why would you demand a new handbag on your wedding day?

And she is still appalled to this day that we spent the night before the wedding together. We were spending the wedding night in a campervan at a festival so we treated ourselves to the luxury of the honeymoon suite the night before.

I've uploaded my wedding welly picture. I appreciate this 'outs' me somewhat but I don't suppose I'm interesting enough for strangers to look at my photos.

OP posts:
janey1234 · 25/03/2013 12:22

Argh I can't see the picture! And I really want to... What am I doing wrong?!

Cavort · 25/03/2013 12:31

Try now. It's not that interesting Grin

OP posts:
janey1234 · 25/03/2013 12:32

Oh, I've just seen it. You look amazing, you really do, and not like the cartwheeling loon from my dream Wink. That's a brilliant photo, can in hand, wellies on: I love that idea!!

janey1234 · 25/03/2013 12:32

And it IS that interesting!!

HazleNutt · 25/03/2013 12:34

well great Cavort, not only are you slim, you're also beautiful. Envy

Nice wellies too! Grin

Purplemonster · 25/03/2013 12:39

FAB picture! My mum has been saying for years she can imagine me either with no shoes on at all or wellies with my wedding dress, probably with a couple of muddy paw prints down my dress. She's probably right Grin

Cavort · 25/03/2013 13:02

Aww thanks guys Blush I wish it was all natural but it cost quite a lot in hair and make up to look like that for the wedding. A compare and contrast picture now wouldn't look as flattering!
