Right, the milk monster is sleeping so I'll try and get my birth story written!

So Monday morning I had stretch and sweep number 3 at 40+1 - midwife wasn't very hopeful as cervix still "unfavourable" but she gave it her best shot. I had a tiny amount of spotting just afterwards but nothing else. Picked DS up from school in the afternoon and had just got home and go to the loo for a wee when I heard and felt a "popping" and waters broke on the loo. Kept trying to get up but was loads more waters kept coming so DS brought me the phone so I could ring DH and my mum. Eventually was able to get up and get a pad on and gave labour ward a ring. They advised to watch for signs of infection and ring them back once contractions started and became regular.

I decided I needed to fuel up so was making a hearty dinner when I had a call back from a midwife on labour ward. They had looked at my notes from DS's birth and decided they wanted to check me over at AAU so DH and I headed down there after I'd had my dinner Grin Had started to have some irregular contractions at that point and they just checked me over, listened to baby and advised me to go home and try and rest.

I did attempt to sleep when I got home but contractions were too painful so I spent the evening bouncing on my ball with my Tens machine on (really rate the Tens machine!) By midnight the contractions were quite regular and painful so we headed back down to labour ward. Once there I was devastated to be told that the contractions were doing bugger all, as I was only 2cm dilated (same as when I'd had my sweep that morning!) And to top it all a waterbirth would be out of the question as the birth pool had been condemned by infection control due to rust on the taps!! I felt really despondent and thought that it was going to be a repeat of DS1's mammoth labour!

We went back home and back to the bouncing - it was a long painful night and it was difficult to relax as my mum and stepdad were in the spare room as DS really didn't want to go to theirs so I couldn't go in the bath as it is right next to their room. I was really glad when they took DS off to school Tues morning so that it was just DH and I and I jumped straight in the bath!

By 11.30 I felt I couldn't cope with the pain much longer and was contracting every 3 mins so back to the hospital we went. I was examined at 12.20 and was still only 4cms - again I felt so despondent that everything was so slow and I was saying to DH that I felt I would need an epidural if there was still hours to go!

Anyhow - it all changed very quickly after that! Baby's heart rate had dropped massively during the examination (I'd had a really big contraction at the same time) so they wanted to keep the monitor on. I walked from the assessment room to the labour room they allocated for me and the contractions began coming almost continuously. Baby was very distressed during contractions and heart rate kept dropping, ended up with lots of panic and people in the room and talk of theatres being prepared. Then they put a scalp probe on DS and realised that all the distress was because things had progressed so quickly and I was 8-9cms Shock I was away with the fairies using gas and air at that point and before I knew it I was ready to push. 20 minutes later and my beautiful big boy had arrived! I did need an episiotomy to get his head out which did tear slightly more too but they were very afraid I would have ended up with a much worse tear had they not intervened. I still can't quite believe that there was no shoulder dystocia this time as he is even bigger than DS1 but he was apparently in textbook position - clever boy! Grin Can't remember if I said on here but they initially converted his weight slightly wrong so rather than 10lb 14oz he was in fact 10lb 15oz! (4.97kg) Shock My midwife was really chuffed as it's the biggest baby she's ever delivered!

I am definitely experiencing the elation that you other ladies have talked about - he is absolutely perfect and I feel so blessed to have 2 fabulous boys and a wonderful DH (who was an absolute star during labour!) It's making me all teary now just writing it down! I am still knackered as T is definitely a night owl at the mo and my lady bits are VERY sore but it is sooo worth it for the end result! I have told DH that we are sticking to 2 though, I dread to think what size a 3rd might be!

Wow, what a mammoth post, hope you're all still awake by the end of it!

Wow Olives he was a bit of a slow starter but was certainly in a rush by the end. I am so pleased to hear a positive birth story of a larger baby, it gives me hope :):) hope you and your boys are all settling in and hope your lady bits feel better soon Thanks well done.

Great story olives. I was just chatting with a friend about how great it was being a mother of boys (the conversation started off being about eating lots of pudding...) and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

P.s Almost forgot to say that because I had a "normal" birth this time we were allowed a 6 hour discharge so we were all back at home by 9.30pm! Smile (with a McD's for sustenance!) Grin

boo Your birth will be a breeze, you've delivered a big un before with no prob so Im certain you can do it again! Grin

gen I know that time is going to fly past so quick, it would be lovely to have a pause button to make these precious moments last a while longer. Smile

whims Boys are great - FACT! Grin

little Things are going great so far. T is feeding well and seems very content. He is nosier at night and more difficult to settle but I think that's maybe because its so quiet compared to daytime. We are going to try using white noise tonight to see if that helps as DH and I could do with some more sleep!! DS1 is being really great with him and he's loving being mummys little helper so long may that last! Midwife came today for 5 day check, all good with me, uterus almost back to normal Shock Shame the rest of my stomach isn't! And lady bits healing ok although bloody sore still! Thomas has lost 6% of his birth weight but apparently 8-10% is acceptable so that's fine. Smile How are things going with you?

beedle Thanks for congrats. We did know that it was likely to be a big baby as DS1 was 10lbs and growth scan showed a fairly big baby but he was still bigger than their predictions!

Shock just seen an advert for an album to buy for mothers day titled Music for Cooking, comes complete with 8 new recipes. Next advert was a 'perfect mother's day gift' of a rotating hard skin buffer for feet :( I told DH not to even think about it! gift wrapped David Tennant is all I need Grin

HELLLOOOOOOOOOOO I feel so lonely over here :(:( I will just have to update myself then Grin

I had a growth scan and chat with my consultant today. Booby is looking big, over the top line of the growth chart on my notes. My consultant has agreed that if it is still on the same line (or has gone up Shock) at my next scan in 3 weeks then I can start to have sweep and stretch done at 37 weeks to prepare my cervix for a medical induction (unless I sneeze from the sweeps of course) She also agreed with me that if the baby is looking that big, I definitely will not be left to 40 weeks. So that is my news, 6 weeks left and we start to encourage this bloody massive little one out

Boo, my big baby left me with only a graze and has been fantastic at BFing. Unfortunately last night, she didn't really settle at all and DH and DS both have high temperatures and are miserable so it has been a bit of a struggle today. Tomorrow can only be better...

Rationally I know I can part with a lovely chunky monkey, and 6 weeks until we get to be proactive and make a start at it ain't long :):) I have been frantically making lists today of what is left to get and what db has in storage that I need to bring over and wash, also my bag list has started. If I don't report back in 5 weeks that I have done everything on my lists please feel free to kick my arse Grin

Aww thanks sweetie, I am indeed one very proud mummy! Grin
boo We brookers are definitely churning out some larger babies aren't we?! Although I needed the episiotomy I didn't even notice it at the time and its healing really well at only 6 days post partum Smile And you never know, maybe booby won't be measuring quite so big at the next scan! Hmm

bartlet Hope DS and DH get better soon.

DS1 was up in the night with a temp and now he's all snotty and coughing bless him and Im so worried about DS2 catching it as DS1 loves kissing and hugging him and I don't want to tell him not to do that Confused DS2 did great last night, just woke twice for feeds at 12.30 and 3.30 but we were up with DS1 being poorly! Fingers crossed for well children and husbands! Grin

Hi Froot lovely to hear from you. Only 4 weeks, wow!! I have been putting off wondering about my birth plan, I have time to put it off some more to wait Grin

I have been having really big problems with my hips too, the mw has referred me for physio, hope you carry on enjoying your mat leave.

Nice to see you froot Glad you are making the most of relaxing on your mat leave. I did bullet points for my birth plan - it was more like a list of things I would like and things Id like to avoid. And I didn't get round to doing mine until 39 weeks so you've got plenty of time to put it off to crack on with it boo! Grin
