Insomnia here to. I fall asleep fine but then wake at 3.30 am and that's it for me. It means that I am always really tired in the evenings, just when I need to be looking after my older children.

I am also feeling a bit constipated and the 3 iron tablets a day aren't helping that at all!

I am 7 weeks tomorrow but still haven't heard anything from the midwives.

I am hoping to give birth in Barnet hospital as that's where I had my other 3 and the midwives were all great.

RainbowsFriend · 24/02/2013 18:10

I seem to have a stomach upset - cramps and watery squits :( Is this dangerous in early pregnancy do people know?

EuroShaggleton · 24/02/2013 18:37

Interesting to see that people are starting to have their booking in appointments! What happens at them? If my scan on Thursday shows something in there, I should probably make myself start acting like I am pg rather than in denial!

Crookie1 · 24/02/2013 18:51

Orange You mentioned about hiding your 'not drinking' from friends, I have a big work night on Friday and work with a very boozy group...anyone got any top tips? thinking of just getting a G&T without the G and hoping no-one starts buying rounds?!

Pannacotta Good news re the nausea. I'm still kind of looking forward to mine kicking in Confused..but when it has, it's good to know it could wain soon!

I'm still getting cramping but much more mild. Seems to get worse when I'm still for ages then move suddenly...sofa Sunday!

OrangeBlossom2 · 24/02/2013 18:51

Wickedgirl i am not sure if it is the same everywhere but my gp said not to expect to hear from the midwives until about 10 weeks and to call if I haven't heard anything by 11 weeks.

TDD32 · 24/02/2013 18:57

OrangeBlossom, anytime. Smile

WickedGirl, I have insomnia. I didn't realise that it was a symptom. You are not alone.

It was also a releaf to read that bleeding gums are a symptom.

Not sure about everyone else but this whole what you can and can't eat thing is really getting confusing. I think I need to stop googling stuff!

OrangeBlossom2 · 24/02/2013 19:00

Cookie, you could buy the first round so no one sees what you are having and then order whatever you like. At home I drink schloer, ami or merlot grape juice from Waitrose. In a pub maybe virgin cocktails, lemonade or tonic water without the gin or vodka. There are usually a really poor selection of soft drinks to choose from but I had a pretty iced tea that looked like a cocktail recently. Elderflower cordial could also pass for a white wine spritzer?

You could also say you gave it up for lent, or that you are driving, or are on antibiotics. Dry January was a good excuse for me and DH as we both gave up when ttc as everybody did notice we were only drinking soft drinks.

It was nice to wake up this morning and be the only one in my house without a hangover but I did feel queasy anyway making blueberry pancakes with gloopy buttermilk!

pinksky · 24/02/2013 19:06

Crookie1 I've been doing that--tonic water with lime, virgin cocktails that look exactly like their alcoholic counterparts (eg mojitos). Don't want to have to lie as I'm sure people would guess, so pretend I'm drinking booze and have avoided doing rounds to make things easier.

TDD32 food is a minefield, isn't it--just go by the NHS site and ignore all else?

Soupqueen · 24/02/2013 19:10

rainbow, I'm sure it'll be fine, make sure you stay hydrated.

I've got a big drinking challenge coming up on Friday. It's DH's 40th birthday, meal in a restaurant with family and friends. It's going to be so obvious that I'm not drinking.

EuroShaggleton · 24/02/2013 19:19

I'm using the Lent excuse at the moment. I give up something every year, so it is not arousing suspicions.

RainbowsFriend · 24/02/2013 19:22

Thanks. Actually been on google and apparently diarrhoea can be a pregnancy symptom! Confused

I have toddler-induced insomnia - does that count? Grin

I'm feeling very sorry for myself I'm afraid, as DD still breastfeeds to sleep I haven't been out in the evening since she was born (well apart from parents' evenings but I'm back for bedtime). I think I might have to just make myself some of these delicious virgin cocktails at home just for the hell of it! Grin

Soupqueen · 24/02/2013 19:24

If it was just our friends, I could probably get away with it. I frequently don't drink when out with them and I think they've given up speculating about pregnancy! My FIL and BIL though......

RainbowsFriend · 24/02/2013 19:24

I remember with DD that I actually had a glass of wine that I would take the smallest sips from, plus a glass of water, then would swap wine glasses with DP every so often so he was drinking both.

Worked for us :)

cuillereasoupe · 24/02/2013 19:25

I've got a meal out with colleagues on Friday too. I'm paranoid everyone will be wondering why I'm not drinking wine, especially as several of them know we've been TTC.

RainbowsFriend · 24/02/2013 19:28

Also - is it that bad if they guess? As long as you haven't told the world and his wife, they will be happy for you if things go well, and there to support you if very sadly they dont.

With previous miscarriages I found it very hard telling people that I was off work/sad because I'd had a miscarriage when they hadn't known I was even pregnant.

Haylebop12 · 24/02/2013 19:31

Sorry to hear some of you are not sleeping well. My anti sickness meds make me very drowsy so I'm sleeping a lot.

I don't get too bothered by people regarding alcohol as I'm not. Big drinker anyway. When I was pg with dd I used to he half a shandy once a week after my weekend shift (bar/waitress). I've had to tell work because of me being ill bd most of my family know now.

rainbow I too have been a little looser. Although my meds are supposed to curse constipation so luckily haven't picked up that side effect!

Hope everyone is having a lovely lazy Sunday.

natalie can't wait to hear about your scan. All the best!

Soupqueen · 24/02/2013 19:32

rainbow, that's a great idea. If I have a glass in front of me, nobody will give it a second thought.

I wouldn't mind friends guessing really, they're all sensitive enough to keep suspicions to themselves/ ask me discreetly. The in laws are a different kettle of fish. They're going to be very full on so I'd like to let them know on our terms.

TDD32 · 24/02/2013 19:40

Thank you Pinksky

littleducks · 24/02/2013 19:42

Oh my goodness. Nausea has switched to vomiting for me today.

Crookie1 · 24/02/2013 19:43

Thanks for all the advice. I had a dry Jan (which annoyed people...party animals!) so will either decide to say I'm going to have a dry every other month, or will just fake it with virgin drinks!

Good luck to everyone else :)

I have given up alcohol for lent and will be 12 weeks on Easter Monday so can start telling the truth!

I went out with friends recently and we all drink quite a bit. I couldn't as " I had an early start and a commute to work". Hopefully they brought it. It's not likely that they'll think I'm pregnant at 37 and with my children being the ages they are (dd14, ds1 12. Ds2 almost 9)
