Hello all,
sorry haven't caught up with the entire new thread but sorry to hear some sad news and welcome to newcomers.

Selfish and TMI post: constipation. Anyone else? I never thought I'd think anything was worse than MS but I would gladly swap the MS I had last time for the horrors of constipation this time. It has been my DDs birthday weekend, loads of family staying and I've been in agony and on the loo (fruitlessly) all the time. I look about 6 months pregnant because my stomach is so distended. Anyone have a magic cure? I tried prune juice yesterday with pretty horrible results but doesn't seem to have tackled the, er, main problem.

7 + 4 today and have my NHS booking appointment on Weds but a meeting with an independent midwife on Thurs which is what we hope we'll do if we can possibly afford it.

RainbowsFriend · 24/02/2013 09:34

Does that make me teacher number 9? I've only told the lab technicians in school so they can double check the chemicals I'm ordering, and so they dont worry when I dash into the prep room to throw up Blush. I now have a bucket stashed in the prep room off my lab.....
Rubbish rubbish night with DD. She woke at least every 2 hours, and wanted to chat to me about her spotty socks and other things between 3am and 4am.... urgh. DP has now taken her downstairs and I should be sleeping but can't now it's so late.

RainbowsFriend · 24/02/2013 09:36

And yes to dry mouth and constipation here as well!

Feelinghungry · 24/02/2013 09:40

Teacher number 9 here! Planning on not telling anyone at work unless I have to. HoD is lovely so might tell them if I start feeling rubbish. A bit worried about possible sickness as the toilet is so far away from my classroom and actually having to leave a class!!! Back tomorrow but Easter hols are not long off, phew.

Feelinghungry · 24/02/2013 09:41

Sorry meant to say 10. And yes to dry lips as well but it could be due the the heating...

MrsExcited · 24/02/2013 09:51

Rainbows sounds like you are science too, i officially told my senior tech too before everyone else worked it out.

I also have a prep room off my lab with a sink that has been used Hmm

No more radioactive sources for me but suits as i avoid teaching physics where poss! Have to be careful of organics during alevel chem classes!

roxvox · 24/02/2013 09:52

Wow, there are going to be a lot of schools looking for maternity cover in October!

I have a slight predicament in that there is a promotion coming up at work that I'd like to go for. No one knows I am pregnant, but I kind of feel as though I shouldn't go for it just because I'll be buggering off on maternity leave soon after I settle into the role (and I may not be going back as DH and I are concerned about the cost of childcare vs what I get paid). I don't want to waste the company resources by going for it and then leaving, but I could do with the payrise as it may mean I'm more likely to go back after maternity leave etc. Anyone in a similar predicament?

RainbowsFriend · 24/02/2013 09:57

Yes chemistry here - had to not do oxidation of alcohols due to the dichromate.... might ask to swap lessons so they can do it with another teacher...

Iheartcrunchiebars · 24/02/2013 10:06

I think so roofio. I think it's only late because the midwife is away for a few weeks. I just worry because I'm not sure i can keep my mouth shut for 15 weeks!!

roxvox · 24/02/2013 10:11

I appear to be eating rubbish foods like a horse, am constantly constipated, and yet I am losing weight. Should I be concerned?!

cuillereasoupe · 24/02/2013 10:11

I'm a teacher too! (well a lecturer, but some of my classes behave like seven-year-olds so I think it counts!)

I'd go for it roxvox if you think you'd do a good job.

pinksky · 24/02/2013 10:28

I'd go for it too, roxvox. I'm starting a new post (same employer) next month. In the longer term I don't think it matters, but working out how and when to tell isn't easy. When were you planning on telling work?

fish88 · 24/02/2013 10:33

Hi guys,

I guess I will be teacher number 10 or 11 (unsure where we have got to). Is there something in the water in these schools?! I got my bfp during half term holiday so haven't been back into school yet. I work in a special school so have 4 TAs to cover for me if I need to run for the loo. Only problem is trying to hide it from them for a few more weeks. I am 5 weeks at the minute and wanting to wait until 7 weeks after I've had my booking in appointment with the midwife. I also have to deal with a lot of challenging behaviour from students so going to have to avoid that until I feel ready to tell everyone.

Glad that other people are carrying on with sports. I practice martial arts and although I have already made an excuse to avoid the contact parts of it (sparring, etc.), I am keen to carry on with the fitness side. My due date is at somepoint in the last week of October so may end up being a November baby in the end. I seem to be losing weight as well and have lost my appetite even though I've not felt sick yet. Just don't seem to be interested in any of my normal foods. Got a really dry mouth though so craving fruit/juice.

roxvox · 24/02/2013 10:37

Thank cuillereasoupe and pinksky.

I'm looking to tell my work after we've told our families, which we don't intend to do until after our 12 week scan. Trouble is that that's the end of March, about the same time as the role starts. I am very likely to get the job and am good friends with my boss. I am just concerned that he'd think I kept it a secret to get the role, when in actual fact it's just because we want to keep our pregnancy to ourselves until we know all is well and we're over that 12 week mark!

I think if I don't go for the role then they'll be suspicious as I have already shown an interest in it and basically been told that, pending formalities, it's likely to come to me if I want it.

roxvox · 24/02/2013 10:38

pinksky have you told your employer yet?

Welcome fish88!

Rockchick1984 · 24/02/2013 11:05

Rox I think I'd go for it if you will probably return after mat leave - the way I see it is that if you're the best person for the job then you are worth having even if you're having time off for a while, an you will still be the best when you return. If you're unlikely to return you can still legally go for it, but personally I don't think I could morally. I didn't return to work after having DS as it just wasn't worth it - DH works shifts and no family who could mind DS so would have been full time childcare and I would have been working for about £100-200 a month after childcare and travel costs Hmm

I've not got the constipation problem - the opposite here! I've started on prenatal Pilates DVD as normally exercise gets things working properly for me! Also gained about 3lbs so don't want it to keep creeping up!!!

roxvox · 24/02/2013 11:20

Hi rockchick. Thanks for the advice. I think you perhaps feel the same as I do about it all. Unfortunately I do not know how much of a pay rise will come with the new job but I know that it will give me a better chance of being able to afford child care and return to work after pregnancy.

I really do enjoy my job so I guess I should go for it with the intention that I will return after maternity leave if we can afford to do so. It's a bit of a catch because I have no idea how much I'll be being paid and I also have no idea how much young childcare costs, although I understand it to be quite expensive for 0-2 year olds.

Thank you for all of your advice though ladies!

TheFalconsmistress · 24/02/2013 11:21

Another one here carrying on sport - mostly cardio and weights at the gym at the moment, plus lots of walking. The only thing I have modified is cutting out my usual weekend run. I live in a hilly area and usually hit my max heartrate for about 75% of my run however fit I am (my exercise heartrate has been daftly high since my teens) and I'm just not sure about pushing my body that hard when it is putting together a person! As soon as it gets a bit warmer I am going to resume swimming - I was a pretty serious swimmer for years and this seems like a really good time to get back to it.

roxvox I am also bleeding a little from one nostril. I usually get it for a day or two during the 2ww. I've now had it for ages! Made worse because I am on aspirin, I think.

Topslou I've been suffering with insomnia from the night before I got my BFP. I'd never heard of it as a symptom before, but it seems to be fairly common. It got worse and worse until was hardly sleeping at all, but the past couple of nights have been a bit better. I think I am finally so exhausted that I am managing to get back to sleep, although I am still waking up several times a night.

candr I've done several tests. This was my 28th cycle of ttc, so I am still not quite believing my eyes when they see the second line.

I have a slightly different work issue to the many teachers on the thread. I'm a lawyer and have just been staffed on a case team. It's a great case - v high profile and interesting. The only problem is that the hearing is in late Sept... in Paris. Has anyone ever had a baby on the Eurostar? Confused Joking aside, I'm going to tell them if I get over the 12 week mark and play it by ear, depending on how I am feeling nearer the time.

Welcome to the thread newbies.

I was browsing the DM online (guilty pleasure) and there is a recent article on exercise and pregnancy:

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2283396/Nell-McAndrew-Ill-pump-iron-til-I-pop-The-model-defying-critics-exercising-pregnancy--doctors-say-shes-right.html

LandsN · 24/02/2013 11:59

I know exercise during pregnancy is supposed to help during labour I was advised if I didnt already do sport to be careful starting but if u already fo its ok to carry on I ride horse but stopped due to heavy lifting and the risk of falling I would never forgive myself but I know people who ride till the day they drop tbh I have not got the energy to do anything I just about manage to walk my dogs twice a day lol

Soupqueen · 24/02/2013 12:13

Crikey, you teachers are a fertile lot!

Euro, nice to see another lawyer. I work in house for an investment firm. My boss keeps urging me to have children (I've not let on we were TTC) so I don't think she'll be too put out by my mat leave - although it will clash with a huge project. Tbh, I'll be quite glad to avoid the project as its likely to be a bit of nightmare! I am concerned about going back, I want to go back part time and I'm not sure how compatible that will be with my current role as I manage a team. That's a fair bit down the road though, so I'll worry about it once I've stopped worrying about more immediate concerns!

roxvox, I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask what the pay rise would be. You can then contact some nurseries and do your sums.

I'm not quite sure what to do with exercise. I've always been pretty fit (body pump, spinning, running, Pilates) but due to one thing and another (including a chest infection and a breast abscess) have done absolutely nothing since November. I think I should probably treat myself as a non exerciser (once I'm able, still have an open wound from the abscess) and stick to walking, pregnancy yoga and aqua aerobics. It's frustrating, I'd always pictured myself as exercising (properly) the whole way through.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

char1eston · 24/02/2013 12:24

TDD - did you mean to put sept in your stats? You mentioned in your message that you were sept but put oct. I'm a sept too but will almost definitely be late so wanted to join the oct bus

OrangeBlossom2 · 24/02/2013 12:34

I gave up my gym membership in December thinking I would rejoin one a bit closer to work but haven't done so as I then got pregnant and wasnt sure whether it was ok in early pregnancy. I keep giving excuses to my friend who I go with who I am not ready to tell yet. I now think it is but I am not sure whether "keep doing what you were doing" means my pre December exercise (step classes, running/rowing/cycling/step machines etc) or my current not very much. All i am doing at the moment is a weekly pilates class.

I have been trying to put on a bit of weight, but an extra 7lbs in 6 weeks plus all the bloating (yes me too with constipation whoever asked that!) doesn't feel very nice so I am going to try to do a bit more. I am wondering about getting some pregnancy exercise DVDs. Anyone used these before?

Rockchick1984 · 24/02/2013 12:46

Orange I use the 10 min solutions prenatal Pilates DVD - am very unfit generally but I like this one, it's 5x10 min exercise sessions so you can do one at a time, or combine them for a long workout I do just the one :) other than that the only exercise I do is walking everywhere, so will just keep that up as normal.
