Good luck with the scans today everyone :)

Huffpot · 26/02/2013 13:02

I'm sure baby will be fine but now have to wait till tomorrow as I didn't hear from the hospital so rang them and they hadn't got the doctors fax so have booked me in for 2pm tomorrow.

photographerlady · 26/02/2013 13:44

Hope things go well for you Huffpot. Keep us all posted.

MightBeMad · 26/02/2013 15:19

Really poorly here with a horrid cough, cold and asthma. Have had to relent on my 'no drugs' policy and take some inhalers but needs must and hopefully it won't last long... On the up side, I told the gp I was worried about movement and he listened to the baby with the Doppler. Being naturally cautious, I never get quite the same reassurance from a Doppler as a scan as I know it can be all too easy to confuse the baby's hb with the sound of the placenta, but he was confident that what he was listening to kept jumping around and said baby appeared to be doing aerobics in there despite my not being able to feel it Grin

On the downside, my poor, beleaguered pelvic floor is taking a serious onslaught with my 24 hr coughing fits SadBlush

19 weeks today.

Supershiv1 · 26/02/2013 16:07

Mightbe
When my midwife listened to heartbeat at 16wk we found placenta and then the heartbeat -they sounded totally different (I didn't even think you could hear the placenta before that).
Placenta was like a woosh, woosh slightly eerie windy sound.
Heartbeat was a fast, almost clip clopping sound.
Was all very exciting!

Supershiv1 · 26/02/2013 16:10

Just been stalking the August thread. Blinking hell July IS going to busy! About a quarter of the Augusters are actually Julyers!
......off to stalk June Wink

Abzs · 26/02/2013 16:24

Scan done, and I definitely haven't broke it. Mind you, it might break itself the way it was leaping around Grin

Good news is, now having met my consultant for the first time, she doesn't want to see me again. My endometrioma is static and she thinks likely to stay that way; so it will be dealt with by gynae referral after Small is born as the risk of it changing (her words: "doing something naughty") will increase from then, or during a CS if I need one.

Cycled into town afterwards and was very bad treated myself to some clothes shopping - (more) new bras (M&S, don't shoot me, I just know what size of theirs fits) and some tops in the Gap sale including a shirt with future feeding potential.

I've cycled about 11 miles today (5+2+4) and now I have tired legs.

dinkystinky · 26/02/2013 16:48

Congrats on scan and good appt Abzs.

Mightbe - sorry you are feeling so rough. Hope you get some rest and feel better soon.

Supershiv - lol at you stalking other threads. Yes, pretty sure July is going to be a boom baby month.

Thinkingof4 · 26/02/2013 17:18

Unwell here too. Ds3 had diarrhoea and vomiting over weekend and now ds2, dh and I all have it. Only ds1 ok. Not fun, feeling very sorry for myself today Sad
Too tired to type any more just now

Beginningofthejourney · 26/02/2013 18:12

mightbe I think we have the same lergy, I don't have asthma thought! I went to see gp today, after being nagged by family, I was convinced there was nothing he would do but as he listened to my chest he said how you feeling other than your chest infection! So I'm now on antibiotics! :-( hope you feel better soon. Bubba seems to have a party at bed time so I'm feeling reassured that (s)he is ok, I've got scan on Friday so not too long to wait, feel like this is going very quickly!
Can't remember if I've said before but don't plan on finding out bubba's gender and hoping to take some AL before mat leave so have about 4 weeks off before bubba comes but don't know how useful I will be at work towards the end....I also have a big bump already!
Good to hear how everyone is doing and as a 1st timer getting all the tips from those of you who have done it before. :-)

elliejjtiny · 26/02/2013 18:24

huffpot hope everything is ok and you get some reassurance from the hospital

mightbe and thinking hope you feel better soon.

I had my scan with the consultant today and she confirmed the cleft lip. She said that it looks severe which means she is fairly certain the palate is involved too. I know it's weird but knowing it's severe is better than before today when I didn't know how bad it was and I was just worrying and fearing the worst. I see the consultant again at 33 weeks and I still keep the consultant I had before who I'll see at 30 weeks. I've been upset this week that the baby's first few months will be full of hospital appointments and surgery which wasn't the plan at all and after having DS2 and DS3 who had a lot of complications with their hypermobility syndrome in the beginning I was hoping for some normality this time round. However with DS1 I had the perfect birth, healthy baby etc and I had awful PND. I was thinking today that actually having a baby with health problems/disabilities isn't that bad. I've done it twice already and survived and I'd much rather go through that than have PND again.

On a more positive note, the midwife who took my bp etc said I didn't look old enough to be expecting my 4th Grin

Beginningofthejourney · 26/02/2013 18:51

Hi ellie don't know where you live but I used to work at St Thomas' in London and saw several cleft lip/palate repairs, the doctors did an amazing job and babies recovered well, but I completely understand you to wanting to spend any more time in hospital! X

AmaDablam · 26/02/2013 19:05

Sorry to hear your baby's cleft lip is "severe" ellie. It sounds like you are dealing with it really well and staying positive, plus they seem to be keeping you informed at the hospital about who you will see and when, which is all good. I hope that the treatment for your little one is as uncomplicated as it can be and you are able to resume the family life you were envisaging soon after he/she arrives.

mightbe, thinking and beginning, hope you feel better soon.

Huffpot I hope everything is OK when you are seen at the hospital tomorrow. I've been a little anxious today as, after a good week of feeling something quite definite several times each day, all I've had today are a few "is it or isn't it" light bubbly sensations. I'm trying not to worry though, as I know they can come and go depending on the position of the baby at this early stage. I'm jealous of those that have heard heartbeats - I was never offered at my 15 week appointment and I daren't get my own doppler as I know I'd drive myself insane with worry if I couldn't hear anything, when I'd probably just be using it wrongly. Scan in 6 days and counting though!

Guavas no, the sale I'm going to is in Leicester. Must be the day for it!

cheek - a C to an E cup - if only! My normal pre-pg size is DD/E and I'm now starting to outgrow an F cup. A friend told me the other day that her daughter started out at a C and after her baby was born she was in a G cup! I don't even want to work out what that would make me in 5 months time!! Well, at least it keeps the DH entertained Wink

cheese and others on the finishing work topic, I am planning to work up until 37 weeks (end of June), then take 2 weeks A/L, starting maternity leave at 39 weeks. It's partly a financial thing for me as I only get 6 weeks at 90% before dropping down to just SMP for the remainder of the 9 months, so I want to keep myself on full wage for as long as possible. I have decided to forgo the additional 12 weeks at 50% that I could get if I signed to say I'd definitely return because if at all possible I really, really don't want to - currently we're doing our sums to see if finances will allow for me to take a proper career break. My job is quite stressful too dinky, although fortunately I am able to keep mostly within 9-5ish hours, so I hope I'll be OK working that late in pg. I've said to my manager though that I want to have a clear diary from the end of May so that I can take things a little easier and spend time tying up lose ends and handing things over. Whether or not that'll happen remains to be seen though....

Have a good evening everyone...

TotallyEggFlipped · 26/02/2013 19:08

ellie glad to hear you're so positive. In the scheme of things cleft lip and palate really isn't that big a deal these days and I think you're right about uncertainty being worse than bad news.

Re: mat leave. With DD I stopped work at 35 weeks when the consultant said I was going to be induced at 36 weeks. (although in reality I only had a couple of shifts left and some leave to take, so only missed 1or 2 days). I needed a week to buy a crib, clothes, get my head around it etc.
This time I plan to work as long as possible because I won't be entitled to any maternity pay.

Hai1988 · 26/02/2013 19:58

Scan went great today found out where having a healthy baby girl :)

BadMissM · 26/02/2013 20:15

Iclaudius Not the consultant's body, but yours! He can keep his opinions to himself!

SPD owch...know the feeling!

ellie It's up to you what you do with your body!

devilfoasideboard sundaysunshine it's all about taking mat leave when you are ready!

cheekbyjowl wouldn't fancy trusting my appaling maths on the calculation!

Dinky I'd go for the summer holiday...you'll need it by then! :-)

Huffpot They struggle to find mine with anterior placenta...

Abzs Don't we all worry that we've done something wrong and it's 'changed' since the last scan somehow! Good luck xxx

Dinky Your hours sound absolutely crazy. Makes me glad slightly (though not in financial terms) that my career is temporarily kaput!

Mightbemad There with you in the sniffle stakes....feel like cack and can't sleep either....

Supershiv You've been busy!

Thinkingof4 You too? (passes tissues)

beginning Would go to Dr's if could get a damn appointment.... but Dr is off sick and everyone appears to have this lurgy!

Ellie They do seem to be taking really good care of you and also telling you everything that is going on, which must be reassuring xxxx

Amadablam I started with a DD cup, currently at about an F and hope it stops soon!

Me... tired, not sleeping (on phone to insomniac Belgian friend at 2am), and have this lurgy which is making me wheeze despite industrial amounts of vitamins!

dinkystinky · 26/02/2013 20:20

Glad you had a good scan Hai and congrats on the girl.

Thinking and Beginning - sorry you are feeling rough. Hope you feel better soon.

Ellie - I am glad the consultant could give you some clear answers today, even if it is that the cleft is severe as, as you say, at least you now know what to plan for. You seem to be remarkably calm and practical about everything and your child will be a lucky child having you and your DH as parents. As the stealth medics on the thread have said, doctors can do amazing things with constructive surgery nowadays and your little one will not remember any of those first few months.

Beginningofthejourney · 26/02/2013 20:20

Wow bad miss did you make a list to remember everyone! I'm impressed.
I tried to get gp appointment yesterday but they said 3 drs were off sick, does sound like its getting everyone. Maybe we can chat tonight, if last night is anything to go by I'll be awake for a few hours Sad

iclaudius · 26/02/2013 20:24

Huff pot looking forward to hearing from you xx
Ellie I am pleased you feel calm and understand totally the feelings of not knowing being so much worse than the reality.
Hai congrats on baby girl !!!
I saw consultant today who was lovely and gave me my elective section without me asking and with a wry smile! She's said 39 weeks but was earlier last time.
Am going too much googling around cords and cord lengths and 'trueknots' and worrying myself silly but she said they cannot check for it but just to be aware!! Hmmm I never get being aware of movements anyway but with true knot a lot of movement can be worrying...
I am also panicking that my baby doesn't crawl yet and seems to fall backwards a lot - worrying he has hyper mobility which might indicate other issues.
Ellie you are probably the authority on this!

Sorry not to name check more but in phone!

STARVING all the time!!!

Cutandstick · 26/02/2013 21:01

Maternity leave wise I'm going at 32. I know it's early, but the 12 hour days are killing me already, and all the changes at work have resulted in less breaks and less staff... So much for reasonable adjustment for being pregnant! I want to leave later so I get more paid time after, but it's not going to happen.

mightbe make sure you steam lots, that helps my asthma when it's messy (on top of inhalers). Take it easy.

dinkystinky · 26/02/2013 22:28

Glad you had a much better consultant appt than you feared iclaudius. Sorry you are ill too BadmissM - hope you feel better soon.

Mightbe and those with pesky nocturnal coughs - we use a humidifier for the boys at night which seems to help their chests settle down abit. May be worth a go.

OP posts:
mysterymeg · 27/02/2013 07:19

ellie one of my colleagues was born with a severe cleft lip and palate. You wouldn't know now - she just has a v faint silvery line on her lip which you only see close up. The only problem she has is not being able to take tablets, apart from that all is fine! She was born and operated on 25 years ago so if anything they'll do an even better job on your little one! HTH

Btw can anyone tell me what the actual point of going to bed is??? I'm not sleeping! I thought the exhaustion was for after the baby arrived?!

Re mat leave I submitted my form yesterday - am going off at 38 weeks. The noises and comments that my supervising partner made suggested he thought that was a bit early!! Am taking 7 months in total as didn't want to go back in tax return season (January) so start back 3 Feb 2014.
20 + 4

MightBeMad · 27/02/2013 08:32

Thanks all and sorry miss, beginning and thinking (was there anyone else?) who are also suffering. hope you feel better soon!

Ellie, glad you are feeling positive and I echo others' thoughts on here. It may be disruptive for you but little or won't ever remember the early interventions.

Congrats in good scans and healthy babes.

Huff and anyone else it's a scan today - hope they all go well!

Meg- 38 weeks= early?!? Eek, I think you may have to watch his/her expectations of you in the later stages and "expectation manage" as necessary. They sound a bit clueless!

Ugh. Too much work to do from my sick bed and now the boilers broken too. Best get on!

dinkystinky · 27/02/2013 09:20

Oh no MightbeMad - not a good time for the boiler to pack in. Hope it gets fixed soon.

MysteryMeg - I think supervising partners are abit in denial when it comes to pregnancy. When I was pregnant with DS1, it took my DH (who used to work with me and is now a client of the firm) calling up another partner in the department to say having a heavily pregnant woman working till 3 in the morning with no support was absolutely unacceptable for my supervising partner to suddenly realise I was doing absolutely everything by myself.... With DS2 I so wasnt taking any of that rubbish.
