Copious amounts of chocolate and gaviscon then seven :o

Actually I've been finding heartburn starts when I eat chocolate nearer to bedtime.

It will not defeat me though!

DXBMermaid · 31/03/2013 20:12

Seven I wish they'd explained that. So basically I have missed the window to have a 3D scan? Oh well, maybe next time. I was wondering why the pics were so bad...

At the moment lots of things give me heartburn, even water. Taking Nux Vomica which is helping, slowly and gaviscon if I need instant relief. Think it is not so much what I eat, but has more to do with baby pushing everything up.

Am also not sleeping great and Mr Mermaid has decided that he is fed up with my horrendous snoring so has gone to sleep in the spare bedroom. Sad

Wake up every time I feel the need to turn as well. Thankfully not to go pee until the morning (yet).

Artichook · 31/03/2013 20:42

I'm home now. Baby's heart trace was all good and eventually he woke and kicked a bit. Apparently he is still breech and they think he is a little small which is odd as my last baby was 10lbs 2oz. I have to go back in a few days to check protein but otherwise all good. I have to say the midwife I saw was lovely but I was still not pleased with the hospital. I was stupid to book in there, I did because it was near work and by some great cafes (seriously, my other hospital is near nothing but a famous prison and when I was an inpatient with pre-eclampsia there was nowhere to buy decent food! I have now learned my lesson when it comes to shallow reasons for changing hospital!).

I still feel for 8cm woman. I think she was heading for an emergency c section under GA poor lady. The lack of privacy they afforded her was shocking.

Rhienne · 31/03/2013 22:57

Hi all. It's a bit scary reading about people coming down with PE, but very glad to hear it's been picked up and they're taking care of you!

I've had a horrible few days with truly ghastly digestion problems. Waves of stomach cramps that hurt so much I can hardly breathe. Definitely feels like indigestion, not baby-related (thank goodness) but still scary and horrible. Finally rang the local equivalent to NHS direct, and was told to go to A&E. There they said that anyone past a certain no of weeks is always sent to the labour ward to check the baby, so baby got checked (and I skipped the A&E queue -win!). Nothing wrong with LO, no signs of PE (apparently pains like mine could be a symptom), but not real idea what's setting me off. Hmm Got some pills and instructions to go back if it hits again, so they can at least give me stronger pain killers. Now I'm just panicking every time my tummy rumbles or I burp. :( Fingers crossed this episode is over!!!

Four more days of work for me! Very hard to be motivated just now, but I guess most of this week will go on sorting out my info and handing over. Yay to only a few more times trudging up and down the hill and yay that the ice seems to finally be melting!

Hearing your stories makes me very glad and grateful I'm giving birth here. I feel spoilt with the standards I now expect after DS was born. Our hospitals provide loads of stuff that you're all packing (formula if needed, nappies, maternity pads etc) and we had a private room from arrival, through to the room DH and I shared for two nights until we took DS home. DH never left the hospital until we all did, as we moved into the "patient hotel" after delivery. Not sure what we'll do this time with DS at home wondering what's going on, but I love that we have the option to stay together. He was (is) my lifeline through all this!

ng1412 · 01/04/2013 16:51

Arti so glad baby is ok. And maybe it was good you went not just to reassure you but so that you could see the hospital. Will you change to your first hospital or stay with this one now?

Let us hope all went well for 8cm woman.Poor thing.

BeauticianNotMagician · 01/04/2013 17:04

Arti So pleased you got some reassurance.Poor 8 cm lady. I would definitely see about transferring hospital. I had awful care back home so I'm hoping this time will be a more positive experience.

Rhienne Hope you feel better soon. I keep getting this awful heartburn/indigestion thing. It only really occurs when I'm lying down. I get a gurgling coming up in my throat but it results in nothing. Occasionally I will be able to burp but rarely it just feels and sounds awful.Prenancy sure isn't glam.

I managed to get the last of my stuff for hospital bag today. I bought a button down nightgown from primark for £4.50. I plan on a water birth but just in case thought I had better pack a nightie.I was going to get ds a lil outfit to come home in but I think ill just go with a baby gro. Suppose I better pack my bag this week. Especially as I have house packing up to do. We are probably going to have our moving date within next two weeks Shock

SevenReasonsToSmile · 01/04/2013 17:50

Glad all was ok arti. At least 8cm woman is probably now cuddling a gorgeous squishy newborn.

beaut can't believe you've got moving to do, I barely have the energy to move off the sofa :o. The last of my hospital bag stuff should arrive tomorrow, suddenly actually all seems real.

rhienne sorry you're suffering. Your hospital sounds great, mine does provide formula if you decide to FF at the last minute, but they make it quite clear they expect you to get someone to bring some in ASAP.

DXB I was told the best time for 3D is 28 weeks, I was only 22 weeks for mine (only wanted it for gender after they couldnt tell at 20 week scan) and got good pics. We had an NHS growth scan at 28 weeks and couldn't even see her face, the sonographer said its just a lot more difficult now which is why they check all of the important bits at 20 weeks, they're big enough for everything to be developed but not so big that they can't get to see everything.

BeauticianNotMagician · 01/04/2013 19:46

Seven I don't know how I'm going to summon the energy to be honest. Its a struggle to load the washing machine at the moment.

Mooll is there any news yet.I hope all is ok and that you are just enjoying the rest.

Does anyone add bath towels to hospital bag I was thinking of getting a couple of black ones

SevenReasonsToSmile · 01/04/2013 21:00

Mine provide towels, never really thought to take my own tbh. I just imagined that they probably get through enough blood-soaked towels and sheets on the labour ward they wouldn't be too upset by it Blush

Speaking of providing your own things; I want to breast feed but should I take some formula milk in my hospital bag incase I can't? X

Boodstress · 02/04/2013 09:55

Bunny I think if you really want to but feel shattered and miserable after you might be tempted to just reach for the formula, if you are genuinely struggling they will provide you with some and your OH can run out and get some but I always assume I will and the hospital won't let you go without. That is a personal thing of course. I sure you will be able to anyway. Positivity goes a long way I think.

Bunnychan · 02/04/2013 09:58

bood that's very true. I desparetly want to BF but am mentally preparing my hospital bag and haven't got a clue lol! I'm going to go back through the thread and read everyone's good advice again x

BeauticianNotMagician · 02/04/2013 10:40

Bunny The hospital will not let baby go without and will provide support with breast feeding so I wouldn't worry. If you really are then you could just pack a couple of the made up cartons of formula.I plan to bottle feed but will breast feed in hospital as I don't want a lecture.I won't bother packing any formula though. My bag is going to be plenty full enough .

lollypopsicle · 02/04/2013 11:13

bunny knowing the hospital you're going to, I know they have aptimil should you need it. They also have very good breast feeding support in our area. DS was struggling to latch on at a day old and I had a bf consultant call me almost as soon as the midwife had left the house and a home visit later that day for support. There are also 'baby bistro' groups at the sure start centres for bf support. I never went but know a few people who have and they found it really supportive and a good way to meet like minded mothers experiencing the same as you.

TerracottaPie · 02/04/2013 12:08

bunny if you are that definite about bfing (and have been about all mine too) then I personally wouldn't pack anything 'just in case' in your hospital bag. If there are any problems with feeding, as everyone has said, they will help you with latch and positioning etc (you may need to ask for help but hopefully the support will just be there) and they will have formula if it's needed.

Make sure you have something like Lansinoh in your bag though. You may not feel sore initially but slapping some cream on your nipple (ok, maybe not quite slapping it on!) after every feed regardless will help a bit at the beginning ime.

Had the MW visit yesterday - apparently baby 'sounded' more like a boy. But then she did go on to say that she doesn't believe in all that one heart rate=boy and another range=girl. Oh and that she gets it wrong anyway even if she does think it to herself!

Not really sure what position s/he is in either but I know when I see her at 36 weeks if there's any doubt about head down then it will be a presentation scan I go for.

Still measuring big but sticking to the same curve on my customised growth chart. I looked at that chart a bit more this morning. If I go along the centile the baby is currently growing at then an estimated weight right now is about 7lb 7oz Shock :o Thank god it's not an exact science and I can be an ostrich!

35w today

Catchingmockingbirds · 02/04/2013 12:19

Argh, I just typed out a big long post and then it was deleted, but the jist was I'm glad both arti, rhienne and mini arti & rhienne are ok.

I've been going to sleep on my left hand side as apparently it's not good to sleep on your back as baby can lie on nerves or some other far more technical reason, but every morning (and when I manage to sneak away for an afternoon nap :o) I wake up on my back with my arms above my head so they fall asleep and I have that horrible numb tingly feeling in them. This won't cause the baby any problems will it? I try and prop a pillow behind my back to stop me but during the night I just move it to lie on my back again. During the day if I lie on my back I feel breathless and uncomfortable too so I've no idea how I can find it that comfy when I'm sleeping.

Catchingmockingbirds · 02/04/2013 12:21

terra that's the weight my little one is predicted to be at birth :o

BeauticianNotMagician · 02/04/2013 13:34

It's the weight mine is predicted at birth as well. Although my bump tells another story Grin

BeauticianNotMagician · 02/04/2013 13:35

Ok so I'm doubting my own abilities to pack my hospital bag. Who wants to show me there list Smile

DXBMermaid · 02/04/2013 13:46

They don't do growth curves at my hospital, or at least they don't show them. I have to ask about weight/size etc and last time I asked about estimated weight/size at birth and was told by the Dr that if she could predict that she would be a millionaire. [sceptical] I can see her point of view, it isn't an exact science but that's why it's a PREDICTION!! Sorry am rather grumpy today. Slept a lot this morning and feel guilty about it, but was just feeling really rubbish. Bit better now thankfully.

I must check to see what the hospital provides. I know they can give you nappies and wipes etc but they charge for them so might as well bring my own. Will not bring FF. Hoping to BF and if not possible, will send hubby out for some.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 02/04/2013 16:09

I'd advise not packing formula if you plan to BF. I didnt take any with DS and unfortunately wasn't able to BF as he was a month early, perfectly healthy though. The BFing support was there but he wasn't getting the hang of it, hospital were happy to provide top-up formula which we cup fed but I was pretty much told after 3 days that I wasn't allowed home until I was capable of feeding him, at that point we opted for formula, hospital provided it until DH bought formula and bottles in for me. With DD I again tried BFing but again she was early, I had packed some but only because I half expected to need it. I'm taking it this time but only because I expect the same problems I had before, and I won't be attempting BFing unless I make it to full-term.

My hospital don't do predicted weights or percentiles, they show a growth chart with the average line on but no numbers. I've been told mine is on the small side, femur length is the only line that's average. DD is very tall and quite skinny though so not a huge surprise tbh.

catching I think the baby can press on the main vein which takes blood back up from the lower body and also on the placenta when you're on your back which is why it isn't recommended. I've also read though that you can definitely tell when it happens as you'll feel extremely dizzy and uncomfy and wouldn't be able to sleep like it. I fall asleep on my side but accept the fact I can't help it if I roll onto my back when I'm asleep.

beaut that's awful you feel that you need to BF in hospital to avoid a lecture. I do think there is a huge amount of pressure to do it though. I noticed on the back of my formula that came today it says that it should only be used on the advice of a doctor, nurse, HV or other healthcare professional. Makes it sound as though we need permission not to BF Hmm.

Seven I was shouted at badly by a midwife first time around. I would happily shout back this time but can't do with the earache in hospital. I'm hoping ill only been for a few hours being my 3rd. I have plenty of milk to breastfeed but find because of this I just completely engorged no matter what. My mum had the same problem.

BeauticianNotMagician · 02/04/2013 16:22

Sorry that should read be in for a few hours and just get completely engorged. Silly IPhone
