arti grab some chocolate & a can of coke ... Works for me wen madam plays up. mooll hope your ok and the weeks pass real quick for you xx

ng1412 · 31/03/2013 09:39

Arti I have been having the same problem since last night. Was really active yesterday and today feels a lot less so and muffled if that makes sense. I am going to have a glass of water and try to find some time to lie down when my DD is napping....hope all is ok with you.

Mooll hope you are ok, sounds like you are in the right place.

Ellypoo · 31/03/2013 09:48

Arti, try a very cold sugary drink and a lie down but I would call your MW/triage to have it checked - is worth it to set your mind at rest if nothing else.

Right, you have me worried about the pain under right side of ribs now - I get it partic if I lie on my right side but it feels constantly bruised and painful. Seeing MW tomorrow so will mention it then.

Ellypoo · 31/03/2013 09:51

Scooby, what is your sick pay policy like? Could you get signed off until your mat leave starts at 36 wks? Sounds like you are really struggling and your bosses are being really crap.

Sun seems to be shining here finally! We are going out for Sunday lunch with some friends, and then meeting some others (including a couple with a brand new 1.5 wk old baby!!!) after - cant wait!!!
What are you all up to today?

Boodstress · 31/03/2013 09:54

scooby they are terrible conditions to be working in, as someone suggested you can have an occupational assessment to test your working environment - they are obliged to make it suitable for your condition as far as I understand. I know you wouldn't want to p*ss anyone off but if you expressed your concerns to your manager in a very black and white fact driven argument that men understand then they would be completely foolish not to listen to you. Good luck!

mooll hope you are ok in there, I'm sure that was very nerve wrecking but at least you are in the best place and you can rest properly before the little one arrives. It will make such a difference.

Arti I have had days like that and take a long sugary or caffeine drink and lie on my side (make it ice cold too) and that usually works. There is not much room left in there so movement does get much less. If that doesn't work I'd ring the hospital midwives.

Catchingmockingbirds · 31/03/2013 09:59

arti I read that being active and walking about rocks baby to sleep so they're more likely to be quieter if you've been on your feet rushing around. If you're still feeling taps then that's a positive thing, put your feet up when your guests arrive and enjoy your muffins, then afterwards if baby is still quiet then call the midwife.

scooby26 · 31/03/2013 10:35

Arti- I'd echo what there's ave said.. If I Drink coke, eat chocolate and sit still or lie down bubs comes to life... Try that befor you panic..x

Thanks everyone... I was referred to OHU after I was off sick 3 weeks ago with a chest infection and I also said then my hips were struggling. I have a phone appointment with them in two weeks! Hmm! That's how important it is aparantly... I did however have a work space assessment on Thursday- which I avent seen the report yet- nice guy said at very least I need regular breaks and my 60meal break every day to alleviate the sitting...it won't happen!

I'm due 24 may and start maternity 19th with annual leave from 23 April til then.. Is it wrong to consider asking to be signed sick until 23 April? Then my leave would start... Is that a cop out? Don't want a medal for coming to work but some concession/ acknowledgement that I need help would be nice..?,!

shelly81 · 31/03/2013 11:19

elly I keep getting that when I lie on my right side too and my bump feels bruised and tender today xxx

SevenReasonsToSmile · 31/03/2013 12:12

scooby its not bad wanting that at all, your employers clearly don't give much of a damn about whether you're coping ok at work.

arti hope you've either been feeling some movements by now or have gone to get checked out.

elly the right side pain others have described is actually a symptom of HELLP syndrome, a rare life-threatening form of PE which causes the internal organs to shut down. It certainly won't be the pain that mooLL had as immediate delivery is required to save the life of the mother, they wouldn't be happy for her to go another 2-4 weeks. As for you, it's highly unlikely to be that without any other signs of PE (high blood pressure, visual disturbances, sudden swelling, protein in urine etc). It's most likely baby has its feet poking under your ribcage, though do obviously mention it to your MW.

I think that is probably sensible Scooby but bear in mind that your employers can start your mat leave at 36 weeks if you are signed off with pg related illness.

Thanks Seven, I'm not normally such a worrier but this pg is certainly testing that!

DXBMermaid · 31/03/2013 13:09

Can I have a moan? My SPD is very bad today, just went to the supermarket (no such thing as easter sunday in Dubai) and I was almost in tears. Honestly I can't spend the next weeks on the couch! There is too much to do and I feel bad enough about taking easy already.

Also yesterday had my growth scan. The lady who did the scan was pants, she rushed through it giving hardly any explanation, the pictures are crap and she didn't even try 3D as she said the baby wasn't lying face up. She got insulted when I asked her to check that we're still having a little girl... Well sorry for asking but it was only checked once, 12 weeks ago and I was told then that it wasn't 100% certain.

Okay enough moaning. Ante-natal class yesterday was really good. The midwife that teaches it is great and even Mr. Mermaid really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next session.

Arti, did you manage to have a rest and feel your baby?

Scooby, I don't think it's a cop out. I am in awe of all the ladies who combine pregnancy with working (full)time!

Elly, hope the pain is just pressure from the baby.

Catchingmockingbirds · 31/03/2013 14:13

dxb the sonographer who done my 12 week scan was quite mean too and seemed to be in a rotten mood, then a few days later I seen her job advertised on the job centre website so I think she'd possibly just been told she was losing her job when I came in.

Are you having any more growth scans? I hope your next experience is a bit better.

DXBMermaid · 31/03/2013 14:30

Catch, I don't think so unless they do one at 36 weeks. This was supposed to be a 'big' one. Dr also doesn't say much more then it's fine. Feel like I need to pull info from her. Still haven't found out what size her head is...

Anyway I suppose that the most important thing is a happy and healthy baby!

Artichook · 31/03/2013 14:46

Thanks for all the advice about getting checked out. I got through brunch calmed by a couple of light taps but as that was all I'd felt by 1pm I came into hospital. I'm now in long queue of anxious pregnant women being served by one midwife who is totally over stretched. This is not the hospital where I delivered my girls and this is my first sight of the labour ward and its tiny and boiling hot and they wouldn't let DH come in as we had the girls with us and kids are banned. I'm feeling a bit anxious and a bit sorry for myself right now...

ng1412 · 31/03/2013 15:07

Oh Arti sorry to hear it is like that, I had a simillar thing when pregnant with my DD and had to wait an age to be checked but it is good to be reassured. Hope your wait isn't too long xx

Artichook · 31/03/2013 15:41

Thanks NG. Still waiting for them to check the baby, they have checked my wee which has a bit of protein. Blah. Wish they'd check the baby do I could stop worrying. There is a lady next to me who is 8cm, surely it's odd to have us on the same ward? I feel so sorry for her as its so public here.

Catchingmockingbirds · 31/03/2013 15:48

Oh arti that sounds really crap, I hope you're back home soon. Stupid question, but is the woman at 8cm in a lot of pain? That must be horrible being stuck in a room with a load of other women at that stage of labour. I was stuck on a busy ward with DS until I was 5cm, and another woman across from me was in labour too (the rest were asleep and I was worried about waking them up too). Going all the way to 8cm without a private room sounds like hell.

Artichook · 31/03/2013 15:52

She is very calm Catching but also very out of it. When they examine her or ask her to move she cries quietly. It's really putting me off this hospital, there are 4 of us in this little room and she has no privacy at all. I had private rooms from 4cm both times.

ng1412 · 31/03/2013 15:57

Arti is this the hospital you are planning on giving birth in? It is probably because they are over stretched with it being Easter. Still not nice for either you or the other lady.

Have they said when they will examine you and are they able to scan you? When I went in it was also a Sunday and the scanner was turned off so I had to wait until the Monday. All quite bizarre!

Artichook · 31/03/2013 16:03

8cm lady just being prepared for theatre due to risk of cord prolapse. Seriously odd that I can hear her whole medical history. This is the hospital where I'm booked to deliver but after this I might seriously try and switch back to my local hospital where I had my girls.

DXBMermaid · 31/03/2013 16:52

Arti that sounds awful. Was there really nowhere else for them to put that poor lady? Was there anyone with her? I just can't imagine how awful she must have felt and then for something to possibly go wrong in front of everyone... Shock

At least at the hospital where I'll deliver both the delivery and recovery rooms are private. Bonus of private healthcare abroad. Blush

Hope that by now you've been checked out and all is well with your little chook.

TerracottaPie · 31/03/2013 17:48

MooLL really hope you're doing ok. Must be all a bit worrying but thankfully it sounds like you're being looked after.

And Arti hope you've had them check baby by now and things are ok. Sounds like rethinking where you end up giving birth is a good idea though. Even if things today aren't how they usually are there and just down to the bank holiday, you need to feel relaxed and not stressed about where you give birth.

scooby I've been signed off sick since the beginning of Feb because of SPD/PGP. GP signed me off again last week all the way up to when 36 weeks. So I'm done with work now. I've just got worse and worse and although I feel shit about letting my team down I've not really had a choice. I dread to think what state I would be in if I hadn't just accepted that I couldn't be at work. I can barely make it up my own stairs now let alone those in my patients houses! So don't worry about getting signed off if that's what you need to do. No one will thank you for putting in those extra weeks it doesn't sound like. And looking after yourself and your baby is the most important thing. As my lovely GP said to me :)

Another one here who is getting pretty much no sleep. I wake up because it all hurts, wake up to turn over, wake up to pee, wake up to a currently poorly DS and his crying, wake up to DPs snoring (which he doesn't usually do!), wake up to...well, you get the idea! The black circles around my eyes may start to be mistaken for phenomenon usually associated with space soon Grin

The midwife is popping round for a check tomorrow so will be nice to hear a heartbeat. And DP will be there to help me get up afterwards!

Hope you're all enjoying copious amounts of chocolate.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 31/03/2013 18:23

Chocolate gives me heartburn :(

arti hope you've been checked now and all is ok, that poor woman at 8cm though. Are you on the labour or maternity ward? My labour ward only have private rooms, if there for any other reason than waters breaking/ being in labour you go to the Assesment unit on the maternity/ post natal ward. Can I ask why you're using that hospital rather than the one you used before?

DXB sorry about the scan, perhaps she thought there was no point doing 3D as you'd only want to see the face in 3D? Also at late growth scans here they don't do photos as they just don't come out very well this late on due it being so cramped in there now.

Hi all I'd fallen off the thread just marking place again

ng1412 · 31/03/2013 18:56

Arti hope you have been seen by a medic now. I have definitely noticed a reduction in movement but have appt with my gyne on Tuesday so will wait until then. I am still feeling kicks but they are just far more muffled...hope all is ok with you xx
