Xx

Abilee90 · 12/03/2013 18:19

*hurts

RugBugs · 12/03/2013 18:58

I'm sorry to hear that Ruck and sorry if I was a bit insensitive earlier. I'm such a private person re my health and stuff like that.

I don't like watching OBEM, not that I get much of a chance to watch tv other than big bang theory Grin, it's just sensationalist (I don't blame the makers for that, boring births wouldn't be as interesting).

People have very different pain thresholds Abi and selective memories Grin! I was off my face and don't remember it hurting very much but I'm sure it did! The stitch after for which they did not offer g&a was horrifically painful.

Abilee90 · 12/03/2013 19:42

Ah i see i didnt have any pain relief. Not through choice.
Then to finish off my ordeal, a 3rd degree tear and 20+ stitches. Only rip myself open 7 days later.

Think thats why i'm freaking out xx

MrsSmurfette · 12/03/2013 20:23

Hope you feel better soon Waves.
Had 16 week midwife appt today - bit disappointed as we didn't get to hear heartbeat as they don't do that until 36 weeks! Did get a tutorial on how to BF tho? Hubby's face was a picture - he didn't know whether to look at the doll she was using or her boobs as she was showing us what to do - she was quite well built!
16+1

RuckAndRoll · 12/03/2013 20:23

rug and abi I suspect I was the one being silly, not you! I'm in a bit of a tiz over whether to complain or not. dh works in healthcare and wants to fire off am email tomorrow to the consultant (who I didn't see today but is responsible for the juniors).

dsil has given me a detailed account of her 36hr labour with foreceps and a lot of tearing. she loves scaring me.

had pancakes for tea, so good Smile

beckie90 · 12/03/2013 21:56

Theres a lot of very good birth storys but you tend to hear of the bad rather then the good, I must say ds1s labour and pushing was easy. 4.5hr labour and 5 mins pushing. It was painful but it was fine it was the problems that occurred after (which is why I'm under consultants this time) I'm not going to go into detail because obviously it can be scary to listen to storys. Ds2 was back to back and very long (5 days) but still if I'd got to choose which labour I wanted I'd still choose ds2s over ds1s even though it was a lot more painful and longer no problems occured and we was both healthy and fine.

But baby has to come out one way or another, I did ask for a section second time round but was refused as the elective c sections wasn't in at this point, it come in not long after. Don't be scared ruck hard to say ha cause even I'm still shitting myself Haha but the outcome of it no matter how bad its been is worth every single thing, and majority of people go on with no problems at all your just most likely to hear the bad bits. And Defo complain bout doc he sounds horrible xx

Stopsittingonyoursister · 12/03/2013 22:27

Ruck I think the thing to remember is that if birth was so very terrible for everyone, we would all be only children, and we would all only have one child! It is scary when things go wrong, but the vast majority of the time, things go righ and no-one gives it a second thought which is why you never hear of those stories!

I have to say, if my Dr was writing down wrong information in my notes, then I would raise an issue with the hospital. You were able to notice the errors and correct them, but someone else may not be able too, and given how many people rely on the notes later on, that could be dangerous. Hope you get it all sorted out, and yay for the MLU being back as an option!

MrsSmurfette that story about your DH is funny! For our first, we did an NHS BF class, two hours of looking at other women feeding their babies in front of us, and they weren't shy about showing everything. My DH was put off me BF for several weeks after that, until I showed him the nursing tops I bought and that I didn't have to show everyone everything. Sometimes too much information is A Bad Thing!

waves hope you are feeling better soon, and you got to hospital OK. How is the snow at the moment, is it clearing or still coming down?

Foof sorry to hear that you are in pain and feeling grotty, hope you get to see the GP soon.

Had a horrendous day at work today, driving all over this morning and then in Court this afternoon. I finish work at 3.30 (supposedly) but didn't leave until 4.45 so was late home, so late picking the kids up from my Mums, late with tea and bath, and kids didn't get to bed blah blah blah - can't wait to start mat leave already! People who work full time, I take my hat off to you, you must have superhuman organisational skills!

19+5 (scan on Thursday!)

RugBugs · 12/03/2013 22:33

I was probably only in active labour about 7 hours and pushed for about 10mins. I had on/off contractions for a day before that though and was admitted to ante-natal ward because of my bp but was alright enough to walk into town for shopping while they got me a bed ready, was quite surreal!

I was so hungry/thirsty/tired after delivering I thought it would be a good idea to swig from a 2l bottle of cherry coke Grin while I was being wheeled off to have my stitch! of course I threw it all straight back up

beckie90 · 12/03/2013 22:46

Haha rugs thats funny (not about been sick or been stitched obviously) . I can just remember drinking about 4 litres of water whilst been on the last 10hr of labour with ds2.

Got such a banging head again today, these headaches had gone before 12wk last time, there so awful.

Also got my 20wk scan on Monday really excited although I already know the sex lol xx

Stopsittingonyoursister · 12/03/2013 22:52

I have an excellent birth story, if anyone wants to hear it Grin - woke up at 5.30am on DDs due date with what I thought was a gastro bug, realised it was contractions about 6.30 (2nd child as well, doh!), went to hospital at 7.50, arrived hospital 8.20, straight into delivery, three pushes and she was born at 8.43. I was sat up eating toast and drinking tea by 8.50, had a bath, spent a lovely day on the ward cuddling my baby, then home the next day. 9lb 7, not a single breath of G&A nor any pain relief, was amazing. Just had a few stitches because she came a bit quick at the end so her delivery was "uncontrolled' ( I basically just decided I was desperate to meet her and wouldn't stop pushing!) but they all healed fine with no problems. So it is possible to have a good hospital birth experience!

However, I am now jinxed to have a multiple intervention, long drawn out labour for number 3...

beckie90 · 12/03/2013 23:02

Thats amazing stopsitting I want that lol. Well I thought cause I'd had a quick labour with ds1 id have a fast one with ds2 and that he would just fall out Haha I really did jynx myself there everyone said seconds were better and quicker lol. Here's hoping to easy fast births all around :) xx

Abilee90 · 12/03/2013 23:11

Sorry for putting my foot init! My bad! Again foot in mouth syndrome. (Fims) lol.

My labour better be better this time or i'll cry. I think my labour was worse as i have a heart condition that went nuts by the end and i was in labour for 37.5 hours. Plus dd was 16 days overdue. It all kinda adds up. So this little man is gonna have his eviction notice from 37 weeks. Will be on a mission to get him out (may sound bad but have been offered a csection at 37 weeks, which i have refused as dd is very much all for mummy and not having me around will cause her a lot of stress). So will have a stretch and sweep on 26th of july (38 weeks) and go from there.

Full of a rotten cold, sound all husky lol. As my dm pointed out i sound like a sex line lady :/ wasnt impressed. Baby is really getting strong and from wht i can gather done a summersult earlier, dh has his head on my tummy was rather funny.

Really struggling to find boys clothes i like :/ i just dont like these unbabyish bright colours that all the teenagers are wearning to nightclub baby clothes :/ what the hell. Bring back pastels and baby blue. Plus have no clue about boy fashion so not helping.

My beautiful daughter took her first steps unaided to me today. Very very very proud mummy moment and then i cried. Became very emotional. She also now sings to herself which is so funny and totally her. Really does have a great personality for a 14 month old.

So waffled plenty there. Hope all are ok and bumps are growing. I actually showed a bit today :)

19 weeks :)
Xxx

Woofers · 13/03/2013 00:18

Just in addition to previous post about watching tele programmes, the main reason for not watching is due to uncontrolled hormones, and irrational emotions etc etc.

I am under no illusion that birth will be warm and fluffy. I am in healthcare too - for my sins - so I have a rough idea about REAL wards etc, albeit I work the other end of life.

OBEM has helped me understand the terminology tho! But I do sit there saying " they need an advanced communication course! "
( I've just been forced to go on one)

If someone says to me "I know it hurts" or "stop panicking" il not be responsible for my actions!!Wink

JollyYellowGiant · 13/03/2013 07:23

Just checking in. I love reading all your updates.

Baby was wriggling while I was having a chat with my boss yesterday. Very distracting. Been working loads recently and I have loads of open uni stuff to catch up on, but work will calm down on Friday so I should have more time to sleep after that!

15+6 today.

RememberingMyPFEs · 13/03/2013 08:10

Catching up on the thread after my hols so apologies for the forthcoming essay Blush

Welcome Woofers. I'm thinking about reusable nappies, there's a lady locally who does a trial of 4 types with a discount when you then buy from her. As for work people feeling it is any of their business what weight we do/dont gain it's annoying me too - mostly cos I'm getting sucked into it more than I'd want and surely it's being healthy that's important. Bloody body image BS! Hope you're feeling better now and able to get some good grub inside anyway Thanks

Looking at the BF conversation I thought this might be interesting. It really struck me just how shit our mat leave pay really is and I want to live in Canada!!!

Foof, hope the bloat/bad tummy is improving. I had v similar til I went on hols - curry worked wonders for me, minimal bloat, no indigestion and regular as clockwork again... If you like curry maybe try a few days of curry/rice only ? I'm now realising I have a big negative reaction to bread. Pasta seems ok so not developing celiac (sp?)

Waves aka bargain hunter extraordinaire I need tips!! We've spent c£500 and have crib, bugaboo chameleon, isofix base (no seat yet) and a lambswool cot rug thingumy. Still have so much to get but skint til May now...

I'm also getting legcramps and restless legs most evenings/nights so I'm going to try a dioralyte every other day see if that helps. When I was running if I got cramps that sorted it out?

Chocolate - congrats on scan and boy news... We have our scan today and DH and I both suspect DD so I might be the first pink one on the thread?! Will let you all know later...

I have been reading Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth. There are a lot of lovely birthing stories in there and it's helping me understand the link (for some) between fear and pain/complications. I highly highly recommend it. Of course everyone is different but there's some gems of advice in it IMHO. It's a great anti-dote to OBEM either way Wink

20+1

DaveMccave · 13/03/2013 09:17

remembering where did you get your sheepskin rug? I want one this time. I've read some Ina may and others too and agree that the less you know and the more anxious you are the more likely you are to have OBEM style complications. I didn't read a thing last time and had lots of interventions. I'm well researched and read this time round and very relaxed about it all and really hope my homebirth goes to plan.

abi awe congrats on your dd's steps! My dd took her first steps at the same age, god I loved that age. That was just before she turned into a wild toddler :) funnily enough, I like any baby clothes colours that aren't baby blue or baby pink. I've got nearly everything from h&m, white, yellow, pale green, rainbow stripes, creams, reds etc. I like white on a new baby but after that lots of funky colours. But nothing fashionable! I still have my 5 year old in funky stripes and dungarees rather than mini adult stuff.

So I thought it was an old wives tale but studies apparently show over 97% of pregnancies with a placenta in the right are boys, and the same for girls on the left?

If this high statistic is true surely we'd all know about it? Did you know what side your placenta was? (I didn't even think to wonder with my dd, and if so, what did you have? I'm pretty sure mine is on the right as I've never felt movement there and it's anterior. Also at 9-12 weeks I could only find hb on the right side and they stay close to the placenta at that stage. I hope it's true!

RememberingMyPFEs · 13/03/2013 09:35

dave we got the lambswool rug from a little shop in Morpeth, Norhtumberland - it's a one off wool shop. The brand is Bowron sheepskins - "Babywool" and their website is here

beckie90 · 13/03/2013 10:12

dave I have read something like that too, Ive 4D pictures from ds1 the placenta was on the side of his face lol, I think its the left side. And I don't know with ds2 although my placenta wouldn't comd out after birth, so had to have it clamped and tugged out while he was pumping on my tummy, he was doing it on my left side so thats where I presume the placenta was. Il think to ask too at my next scan in 5 days xx

Noodles80 · 13/03/2013 13:42

Have just been trying to catch up on all the posts. Exciting that so many people are having scans and know what they're having! I'm not going to find out, although DP and I can't agree on any names so maybe if we had just one sex to think about would make things easier!

Waves - you deserve a medal. You have done so fantastically well coping with everything.

I'm travelling again. I was telling a few colleagues from various parts of the world that I was pregnant and got all kinds of advice. It seems the rules of what you should and shouldn't eat/drink/do are different everywhere. One colleague told me pregnant women shouldn't go to weddings as its unlucky! I said we liked pregnant guests in the UK as they wouldn't be drinking and would help keep the bar bill down! I told another that I had struggled in Japan as I couldn't eat sushi and she thought I was mad and that in Malaysia they eat as much as they like. Told not to drink a diet coke, not to have a massage as it was bad luck.. the list goes on! Anyway quite funny to think if we tried to follow everything we'd have to stay indoors and live on bread and water for 9 months!

I ignored the massage advice and went for a lovely pregnancy massage. Would highly recommend it - was very relaxing and helped loads with back pain.

I'd like to join the facebook group but not sure how to private message on here. Can anyone help? Also, has anyone decided how much time they are taking off after baby is born? I'm trying to figure it all out...

Sorry for the essay. Have a good afternoon!

RugBugs · 13/03/2013 14:12

Sonographer said my placenta was on my right side (the side I ovulated from), she had a brand new student in so I got some very detailed explanantions.
But I thought the placenta could move about? Or maybe that's just when it's bigger?

We have a sheepskin for DD but poor thing couldn't lie on it much because the cats decided they liked it too! This baby will be getting one that fits into our pop-up bassinette or pram so I can pop a net over to deter furry invaders!

Noodles I keep reading that the amount of fish eaten by pregnant women in Asia contributes to their much higher levels of sickness in pregnancy.

I'm no help with when to go back to work, DD is 2.4 and I never went back!

RuckAndRoll · 13/03/2013 14:43

noodles pregnancy massages are great aren't they? I lovethe fact as the place I normally go they cost the same as normal massages, no hiking of the price just because it has pregnancy or baby in the title. I'll probably go back to work when SMP runs out (39 weeks I think), but if DH gets the new job he's applied for with a slight pay rise we can afford for me to stay off the whole year.

Random question for those of you who are on pregnancy number 2/3/4. Would I be an absolute idiot to enter the Race for Life (5km walk/run - i'll be walking) when I'll be 32 weeks? I do it every year and reckon at the moment I could walk it no problem.

Abilee90 · 13/03/2013 14:48

I went on maternity leave for 8 months and then went back to work for 7 months, doing 4 hours a day and hated it to be away from dd. so quit 6 days before xmas.

Xx

RugBugs · 13/03/2013 15:10

Ruck I imagine it would totally depend on whether or not you got spd/pgp.

I moved house at 33 weeks with DD and was fine at the time, I took apart all the furniture and was carrying boxes. I did get serious pain a few weeks after though, I could walk so far but then would be in absolute agony and not be able to take another step. I then went into labour at dead on 37 weeks but who knows if that was due to my low amniotic fluid,PE or the amount of walking/lifting I had done the month before.

Short answer... I'd do it but I'd be realistic that I might not finish.

RememberingMyPFEs · 13/03/2013 15:35

Pink scan!!

DD showed her bits nicely and everything else is all healthy, right size, right place etc Grin
