oh, one last thing... i got a voucher for off a friend for Christmas for a back, neck and shoulder massage! I've seen some articles online that say you shouldn't have massage treatments during your first trimester? but my voucher expires in March. Anyone been for similar treatments? Any general advice on this would be great.

Rosyisgonnabeamummy · 09/02/2013 10:24

Kim I think it's the smelly oils which you can't have. Phone them up to explain and I'm sure they would offer something else or extend it Smile
In other beauty queries - waxing? Can you still get waxed? What about veet? I'm looking very French feminist at the moment

jennimoo · 09/02/2013 10:26

For the massage I'd call the place and explain, and I expect they'd extend it. I went for a facial and massage towards the end of the 2ww while TTC and told them and they said usually people wait until end of 1st trimester to be on the safe side.

jennimoo · 09/02/2013 10:28

I think waxing would be fine, if you're brave enough! I want to get my eyebrows threaded but feel so sick I think the pain might be a bit much. I've never had it done though, so maybe it's not that painful...

cherrycherry41 · 09/02/2013 10:33

lurker here... im due start of oct ...
TALL GIRLS- next!! ive always had a longer leg and always get my jeans/maternity trousers etc from there! Although i did buy a pretty long pair of maternity jeans from asda last year!

Kittenkatzen · 09/02/2013 10:37

rosy I believe waxing is fine, but will possibly hurt more than usual as your skin might be over sensitive. I have definitely read that veet/other chemically defuzzing creams should be avoided but not sure if that's official advice or not (think it was in one of my pregnancy iPhone apps)

badguider · 09/02/2013 10:51

Most massage places do antenatal massage. You just need to avoid certain oils etc (easier to avoid all aromatic oils).

I had a massage yesterday and it was wonderful!!! I was offered cushions to stop me having to lie flat on my stomach but actually i'm fine to do that at the moment. I have booked in again for 4-5 week's time.
I'm hoping that towards the later stages we can get hold of one of those massage chairs so i can kneel up and still have my shoulders/neck treated.

kimjayne · 09/02/2013 10:53

i called the spa about extending the voucher. They said they could exchange the treatment for something else like facial. However, she did say they often treat pregnant women with massages and its more a case of personal choice whether you feel comfortable having it done or not. Ive not had a massage in years and would love it. Hopefully its just the oils that are risky! Maybe I can ask for a safe oil to be used? Or take some with me. My friend got me a pregnancy massage kit with oils in. They contain lavender oil!! so guess that must be okay? Gosh its a mine field this pregnancy thing isn't it.

Kilkers · 09/02/2013 11:13

kimjayne I found this article about essential oils which you might find useful

www.babycentre.co.uk/x536449/is-it-safe-to-use-essential-oils-while-im-pregnant

badguider · 09/02/2013 11:15

I had a completely unscented 'carrier' oil just to be safe.

badguider · 09/02/2013 11:17

And having googled a bit it seems that those places who won't do it in first trimester are just nervous about it being blamed for mc while the overall mc risk is still relatively high.
But we all know that mc is almost always not about anything the mother did or did not do.

EmmaDee · 09/02/2013 11:18

Frogchops, I am the same, had a wee bit of nausea 2 weeks ago but nout since, no sickness or cravings! Freaked me out a bit!! Glad that there's a few people in this boat!

jm233 · 09/02/2013 11:26

Ugh I just wrote a big message but it got list in cyber space.
I was saying- I'm a beauty therapist, and my advice would be to not have a massage unless its specifically a preggy one, as your therapist will have been trained in it and will know all her dos and donts, as well as exactly what a pregnant lady needs to feel good. There are also some very potent essential oils that should be avoided throughout your pregnancy, but some (like lavender, tea tree, neroli and ylang) that are ok after first trimester.

Re waxing- it's absolutely fine, although you may find it a bit more painful. I've waxed lots of pregnant ladies and a good few that were ready to pop there and then (but thankfully didn't)!

amiready · 09/02/2013 11:57

Phew all this talk of massages makes me want one! DH keeps getting them as sports massages as he's training for the marathon! Think I should have a few!

Anyway - hetty, frog, and kitten - don't worry we are all in the no symptoms boat. I am 9+6 with no symptoms barely at all except itching, wind and diarrhoea! Nothing much to associate with being preggers beyond what I normally get! Scan in 3 weeks. Here's hoping all is well.

amiready · 09/02/2013 11:58

Oh - and emmadee ! Nice to know there are a few of us!

Rosyisgonnabeamummy · 09/02/2013 14:58

Fu*k
Just crashed my car.
Drivers wheel is buckled.
Called dh for support and he just said have you called the lease company?!!

CharlW1 · 09/02/2013 15:04

Frog, hetty and kitten - don't worry about losing symptoms. I had the usual feeling sick, sore boobs etc and then woke up feeling fine at 8.5 weeks. sickness returned a little this week but I have been told its all completely normal.
I had my booking appointment in the week - it was a bit different to last time with what seemed like a lot more paperwork - no wonder the waiting room was packed!
Had a private scan today (as had a previous mc at 9.5 weeks last year) and everything was fine it's all becoming a bit real now! e -

CharlW1 · 09/02/2013 15:06

God Rosy I hope you're alright! x

Kilkers · 09/02/2013 15:24

Good news on your scan Charl, glad all was well. How far along as you now? I'm 8+2 and as you described my symptoms have pretty much all got better. Trying to not to worry as it won't do me a lot of good!

Rosy, sorry to hear about your accident, hope you're ok?

To whoever mentioned a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw the other day I love you! Have been fixated on it since and last might was the first chance I had to eat it, I think It was literally the nicest meal I've ever eaten! Have also bought myself a large bag of salt and vinegar chipsticks which are heaven!

LexyMa · 09/02/2013 15:59

Hope you're ok Rosy.

I am totally beaten today. Seemed to have plenty of energy yesterday at work and DH was out with friends straight from his work so it was just me and (3y) DS last night and he was a total sweetie. But DH must have got steaming pissed because at 5am I realised all the downstairs lights were on and it wasn't our kitchen bin next to me in bed, it was him. Stinking. Then although he'd agreed to give me the Saturday lie in, he was incapable of anything more than going downstairs and microwaving porridge, then bringing his stinky breath and booze-seeping sweat back to bed. After a bit of persuading, DS went back downstairs and played on his own, and I went into the spare room to get away from the smell, but the spare room is over the kitchen and DS put the radio on and it was loud. I didn't mind - it was absolute90s. I had to go and shout at DH when I could hear DS calling to have his bum wiped but it wasn't rousing DH.

I am presently on the sofa after a very long nap - I still feel weary though. The boys are out at swimming and the bedroom has been aired. Friend of DH coming for dinner this evening and I think we are driving over to Essex tomorrow for an In-law's birthday. I know nothing about plans/arrangements for either. There might be none at all, he certainly has done nothing about card/gift, and I've never let myself become responsible for all extended family milestones.

God I sound grumpy!!!

KamikazeeKid · 09/02/2013 16:45

Lexyma my DH did similar room stinking pn Thursday after a curry and beers night

I can still smell it!!! Vom vom!!

OP posts:
jennimoo · 09/02/2013 16:47

My DH still stinks of the curry he had last night. Yuck!

LotsaTuddles · 09/02/2013 17:16

Thought I'd lost you all. Will catch up later.

Hope everyone's ok

Whyriskit · 09/02/2013 17:59

Oh well, I don't need to worry about what to have in the nice French restaurant this evening as DS2 has spent the afternoon vomiting copiously over everything, including me.
So I'm staying home with the boys while DH goes out.Sad

Creamtea1 · 09/02/2013 18:45
