Morning everyone,

Got wet feet this morning, dressed for the nice weather, and what does it do, it tosses down... Oh well.

Sorry to hear your news Bumpybel. I had a similar experience when i was pg with DS, uncle in Ireland passed away and my dad rang (he never rings, it's always mother, and then she passes me over) to say DON't even think about coming home for it. Just started blubbing on the phone, so he helplessly passed me over to mother. I'm sure your bubs will be fine, so you have a good cry if you need to.

Not so much leaky boobs. Just the odd drop!!

Can these babies kick TOO much?? My bump just goes crazy from early evening until well after bedtime. It's great, but some of the movements are really crazy, I'm sure I can see feet... Maybe it's all the fizzy water I'm drinking.

Does anyone know what would happen if I moved house before I pop? Would I have to change midwives/hospitals or would the one I have now still come round? Suppose I could just ask her...

Well have a nice day everyone, and don't get too wet.

Straightforward, i know what you mean about blood tests, student MW did one, but after 10 mins of digging in my arm couldnt find my vein (Ow!), and then had to go to hospital to do it again, and the got one and a bit tubes, then they collapesed my vein.. so have got lovely matching bruises.
At least when you were little you got a sticker, or a sweet Could have done with that i think! Blush

I was initially a bit disgusted to have to re-use my sample bottle at each appt (got given a shiny new one today). Thought it was standard to test urine each time.

Saw mw today and had bloods taken & first anti-D injection. Anti-D didn't hurt as much as I was expecting, although being told to 'relax' when someones hovering over you with a big old needle Shock. I have crappy thin veins and regularly end up with matching bruises on both arms.

bumpy - bereavement in pg is hard, you have my sympathies :( My granddad died just before Christmas, he had been frail for a while and went rapidly downhill which was stressful for all of us. Don't worry about having a good cry, good to let it out. I found that although it was a sad time, I really appreciated being with my family.

usandbump · 08/05/2006 21:14

Evening all Smile

Hope you are being well looked after Bumpybel.

I've been feeling very uncomfortable the last couple of days, hip pain is now almost unbearable in the night and sleeping on my back isn't much better, luckily have midwife appt on Thurs so going to ask if she can recommend anything. Its not so bad at the weekend as I can nap in the day but I can't do that at work!
Also think I may have urine infection, is this picked up in the normal wee test you're supposed to have each appt?
Start ante-natal classes tomorrow, don't know what to expect from them will let you know!

x

Too many messages - can't catch up!

Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't been on much as dh is back, and takes up a lot of my time Grin

koshka1984 · 08/05/2006 21:37

Hey everyone,

I am not booked on any antenatal classes they are all booked up in my area. Is there anything massive that i'll miss?

deblaca · 08/05/2006 22:10

koshka - don't your hospital run them? personally i'd stamp my feet to get on one if they do ... you can of course read up on everything you need to know but i think they're a good platform to go thought all the various details of the birth etc etc etc, ask any questions you're not so clear on (or what others bring up), share experiences and it can be a good way to meet other mums-to-be :-)

usandbump - with you on the hip pain, just before i came onto check thread i wrote it on my list of things to bring up with the m/w when i see her next tues - let me know what yours say on thurs
xx

koshka1984 · 08/05/2006 22:22

they do, but they are full. I dont know really what ill do. i dont really know what to say to mw, i dont really like standing up to myself!
Might take DP with me so he can kick me up the backside!
thanks x

deblaca · 08/05/2006 22:51

good luck in whatever happens koshka

agalch · 09/05/2006 07:06

Morning ladies

Looks like it might be a nice(ish) day here hopefully.Hope you are all well.

Bumpy i went to a funeral during my last pg at around the same stage as we are now.I felt more upset than i normally would(prob hormones?) and cried buckets but it did me no harm.I think it would have been worse holding onto all the sad emotions tbh.Hugs to you xx

Need help girls,i know a couple of you have had the GTT test, having mine tomorrow but i have started a new minded child.I need to know what exactly happens and how long it will take as i need to pick up child at nursery at 12.30pm and i have to be at the hosp at 9am.Do you think i will be finished in plenty of time?Nursery is only a 10 minute drive from hosp.

My mw came to speak to myself and dp on Saturday and went through all the info about homebirth as she thinks the consultant is just being really careful about the GTT test.So assuming the test is fine i will be getting my homebirth. She also said all the mw's on call for homebirth are happy to deliver in water so i am researching buying/hiring a birthpool so i am mega excited.

Anyway must go and pick up my little mindee and get working.I am so Envy of all you ladies on your countdown to the start of your mat leave.I still have around 10 weeks to goSad.I hope the parents will want to go a bit earlier but they have asked me to work up to the 14th and i suppose i can have the time off afterwards which is better for me so will keep plodding on.

Have a good day all Grin

IamBlossom · 09/05/2006 09:26

Morning,

Sorry Algach, can't help you with that one.....

I have realsied that i wasn't given my MAT B1 certificate at my 28 week appointment, so of course haven't given it to work, hence no confirmation in writing of my maternity leave yet! Why do these things get missed when it's the midwive's bloody full time job not to miss it? I know it's not really crucial to safety of mother and child or anything but it's still a formality they need to go through with every person in their care that works, so how come no-one has mentioned it to me? Lucky I have remembered, and am chasing up the midwives to get it done....

Which considering the preghead I have at the moment is quite an amazing feat - locked myself and DS out of the house this morning, and had to sit in the driveway while my Mum drove round with the spare set, bless her. She didn't look too impressed at being rousted out of bed. Oh well, gave me a chance to put my face on, DS was quite happy playing in the garden, and it proved there are definite advantages to living near your parents!!

have a good day every one - I've got my forecast review with my boss this morning, dreading it.....Sad

Blossom

xx

deblaca · 09/05/2006 09:28

agalch - the GTT should take a 2 hours but tbh mine took 3 hrs ..... they take a blood test on arrival then you have a glucose solution followed by another blood test exactly 1 hours later and another 1 hour following that (so if you get your initial blood test at 9am you should be out by 11am) .... good luck

I'm also hoping for a homebirth ... I hope to speak to my m/w about it next visit (tuesday) .... Did your m/w visit you at home? How much info did she give you? Did she speak to you about immediate aftercare? Sorry for all the questions but I'm starting to get excited/anxious about it (now its getting closer) .... also worried that my builders won't be finished in time Angry ... but good luck with gettting yours

have a good day everyone xx

pinkdolly · 09/05/2006 10:15

Hi ladies,

Well, I had a crappy day yesterday. Turns out that my headache was a precurser for the nasty tummy bug that dd2 has had for over a week. So feeling drained and sicky and sticking close to the loo (TMI-sorry). Feeling a bit better this morning, although still feel like I got head full of cotton wool.

Usandbump- Sorry about your pains, I know how you feel. My dd's think it's funny when I cant stand up properly after sitting down for any length of time. I get really stiff and end up hobbling out of the room. And turning in bed is awful. Still not much longer to go!

Power to the homebirth gang!!
How many of us is it now aiming for one?
I am so looking forward to mine. I hate hospitals and am a very homely person. I like to be surrounded by my own things. Rather then in the stuffy hospital ward.
My MW hasn't yet come around to visit but it shouldn't be too long.

Well it's grey and murky here, hoping it will clear up in a bit so I can do a bit more pottering. Have a good day!

agalch · 09/05/2006 10:19

Blossom,i am self employed but i think i need to ask mw for that form to claim maternity allowance, will chase that up.

Deblaca thanks for the info on my gtt test.Yes my mw came to visit us on Saturday,my dp wasn't keen to begin with so mw offered to see us at clinic if we could arrange time off or at home if need be.Immediate aftercare wasn't mentioned except for the check on the baby,if baby is born during the week the gp will come to the house to do it,but if baby born at weekend we would need to go to local hosp to have it done.if i manage my homebirth i don't think that would bother me tho.
Whereabouts are you? I'm in Scotland.
I also found out that my mw will get me pethidine as back up pain relief(some areas don't allow pethidine at home)and we get a visit from hunky firemen to check we are storing the oxygen and entinox safely.Grin
have you mentioned to your mw at all about homebirth,my mw actually brought it up,i was amazed at being offered it tbh.I think i'm so keen as this is my last baby(no 4) and i want it not to be a medical event. We should swap notes eh? I'm thinking about a pool too,are you?

jersey · 09/05/2006 11:49

Hi everyone, long time no speak! Been off since the friday before the bank holiday as my MIL is ill so no child care. Not likely to be back at work until next week. I forgot how tiring it is being at home with an energetic 21month old! How will I cope with a baby as well Shock.

Not had chance to totally catch up as yet but SOme one mentioned swelling legs/ankles, mine have started with the warmer weather, I had the same last time as well.

Had 28 week check at 29 weeks and measuring about right for dates, everything ok. Baby very very active, don't think this one is sleeping in there!

Catch up when I can. Hope everyone is ok and when I do eventually get back to work I finish for maternity at the end of June as well.

deblaca · 09/05/2006 12:22

agalch - i'm in london, and yes i said it to my m/w at my booking in appointment (it's been on my notes since then), although its been mentioned since (mainly by me) nothing has been discussed in detail but now as the big day looms I need to clarify (a lot of) stuff .... also like you I want a waterbirth, I'm booked in for w/birth class at the hospital at the end of the month .....
but as its my first its all so new .... recently i've started to become concerned about the aftercare with the baby (do the m/w help you with breastfeeding for example) .... i guess i'll have a lot of questions on tuesday ......
will you be having another home visit?

pinkdolly - i've had a day like that - not nice ... so how prepared are you for your homebirth and are you planning a waterbirth???

agalch · 09/05/2006 14:00

Pinkdolly,will this be your 1st baby/homebirth?

Deblaca afaik the mw's will stay until you have successfully had baby latched on a few times. My mw's are really good and say i can phone anytime. It might be worth looking around for an NCT or La Leche group now and they would be in place if you need support.Your mw should visit for at least 10 days anyway and i would hope that they would spend time if you need help.
TBH if you were in hosp you wouldn't necessarily get much more support,i had no help whatsoever with dd (2nd child i bf) and ended up with bleeding nipples because of a poor latch,so don't let the thought of being at home and bf put you off homebirth.I'm still a bit apprehensive about the birth and bf and i'm on no4 so i'm sure you will do great!!! Grin

agalch · 09/05/2006 14:04

Oh and i forgot to say,the team of 10 mw's who will be on call when i'm due will all visit me at home nearer the time to introduce themselves. My own mw (who is one of the mw's on call) may visit me at home later on to save me the trip out but may not,not sure yet.

Afternoon ladies

pinkdolly-hope you feel better soon hun.

My headache finally went on Sunday evening. Stuck with the theory that if you drink loads of water it will help and it did-apart from weeing every 10 mins and having terrible stomach ache and diaorhea (sp?).

Have been for my scan this afternoon to see if my placenta has moved and unfortunately it hasn't moved enough so got to have another scan in 2 weeks and if it still hasn't moved I have to have a probe stuck up me and have a discussion with the consultant-oo er! Keep everything crossed for me.

The girl at work (due 1.6.06) was rushed to hospital last night with bleeding and high blood pressure-hope all is well.

The midwife sticks a stick in my wee sample every time I see her-I had to buy my own pot this time and she doesn't even empty it like last time.

Can't see me ever returning to work as they are now changing opening hours to be up to 10pm at night and Sat, Sun and Bank Holidays. If you don't agree to sign the new contracts then that is OK because they can soon find you a suitable position somewhere else in the UK!!!!! Yeah right!

Anyway, off to have a cool drink so love to all and byee for now.

xxx

Hey all

Bumpybel: Sorry to hear your news SadSpoke to doctor on our mother a& baby unit (work in psych hosp)for u and he said being sad shouldn't effect your baby as its a normal response to an event unless its really severe or prolonged! go funeral if you feel it will help you deal wit your grief but don't go if you think it will really stress you out!! Hope this helps Smile

Straightforward: from bournville area of Brum, nice to go back!!
